★★★★1/2! Bait & Switch (stand-alone) book 1 of X. A journey of self-discovery & healing as Dom is caught between two so very different women!

Sorry read ARC a while back, but never reviewed due to flu then work project. Book is now LIVE!

Books in Alphas Undone series are stand-alones, but most enjoyed if read in order:
Book 1: Bait & Switch
Book 2: Slow & Steady

Bait & Switch (stand-alone) is retired Navy SEAL and security consultant Nolan Maxwell’s story. His carefully structured life is about to be set in a tailspin when he finds himself caught between two women.

For years he has been enjoying a BDSM relationship with his roommate and friend, but then he meets Lacey aka Lucky who doesn’t bring out the Dom in him. Instead there are tender moments and a brewing romance, which partly scares him.

Both women are aware of each other and both are accepting of the arrangement, for their own reasons. But when their pasts catch up with them Nolan is not only forced step in and solve a mystery, but he has to make some choices moving forward…

Eight words to describe Nolan Maxwell: Loyal, protective, honest, candid, closed off, haunted, guarded and non-committal.

Bait & Switch, told from dual POVs, is a good mixture of scorching sexual situations, budding romance and mystery. It’s a journey for all three. It ends on a high with an epilogue a year later.

Excellent story-telling! Angst, suspense and healing love!

I enjoy Kendall Ryan’s writing style and the fact that her books are usually short, easy and sexy. I know what to expect when I’m starting one and I like that consistency. Bait & Switch was not the normal Kendall Ryan experience. It stressed me out and it was a bit more suspenseful than what I’m used to from her. It was also probably her strongest writing to date.

Nolan is a former Navy SEAL who now works security. He doesn’t do dating, romance or love. He has a roommate who he has an arrangement with, but she isn’t his girlfriend. He’s set in his ways and things work for him the way they are. Until he meets Lacey. Lacey is the first girl in a long time Nolan wants to date. To spend time with. She understand the score with his roommate and that it’s not serious etc. Lacey genuinely likes Nolan, but she’s with him for a reason. She has secrets, things she can’t tell anyone.

A lot going on, right? After reading less than half of this book, I could smell disaster from a mile away. In the words of Nolan:
This entire situation was the definition of a clusterfuck.

There really was so much going on, and towards the end, I didn’t know how Kendall would wrap it up and make everything okay, but she did. And it was.

As I said before, Bait & Switch isn’t your typical Kendall Ryan romance. It’s a little more edgy, angsty and suspenseful. The story line wasn’t my absolute favorite, but I can see a lot of people loving it. The second book in this series will focus on Nolan’s friend, Greyson and I can’t wait for his book! That sneak peek at the end of this has me salivating!

Love is a trap, a trick only other people fall for. Former Navy SEAL Nolan has no such illusions.

So, Kendall Ryan is one of many authors I like. Even thought I've only read 3 of them. So when I saw the next one coming out, I had to get more info. The Blurb stopped me tough. There's this mention of two women in his life. So far so good. I mean, one of them could be his beloved sister, or a friend. Right? (I was so hoping on that!) But that assumption was quickly killed. It describes that he could have a real future with one of the women. (sweet). Oh but the other one, that one does the kinky behind closed doors. (oh no!)
So you see my dilemma? Nolan, a SEAL, has two women in his live, both are real (whatever that means), and now he has to choose. Right? Well, not really. Because you see, Nolan had a really hard life, traumatic experiences, and now he just doesn't believe in love anymore. Or better said, he doesn't want love for himself. I can really understand that, I mean who I am to dictate that he has to want to find love? Not my issue here.
The first scene really put me off. Not because of the kink, but because it was clear within a few pages, that this one was not the women, he could have a future with. It was the other one.

The story didn't get better. The heroine, Lacey, is on the run. She shows up in this little town and we don't really know why. Her past is unknown for us. Where does she come from? Why is she here? How does she know Nolan?
The story seemed boring to me. Our hero has 2 women, he likes them both, want's to have them both. And at first, he didn't see the need to decide. He's happy with the arrangement. Of course he has to inform Lacey about the other women. Everything other wouldn't be appropriate. Lacey seems to be ok with it, tough she's not in love with him. Yet. And so it comes to what it has to come to. Lacey falls in love with Nolan, wants him for himself. Ultimately Nolan has to choose. Or does he?
This book wasn't for me. The blurb promised no cheating, but for me it was. The hero didn't know what he wanted. He was described the protector, but come on! Really, you have the urge to protect a women, you give her a place to stay for free, you have a friendship for 2 years, and on top of that, you practice in the BDSM this women obviously needs. Even tough you don't practice BDSM and said woman has to teach you all. Sorry but for me this is really unbelievable.
And don't get me started on the reason the heroine has to run away form home and seek protection. Really? I can't even describe it to you. You just have to read it for yourself. I'm done here.
Will I read the second book form this series? I don't know yet. Perhaps? Perhaps not.

Hearts would be broken. Secrets would be revealed. And nothing would ever be the same.

I love Kendall’s books, I love that we get fun, sexy, and heart warming reads. Last year Ryan proved she can write sexy romantic comedies and this year she is delivering another surprise. Bait & Switch isn’t like any other Ryan book I have read, it’s more suspenseful and risqué.

Nolan is a retired Navy Seal and is now working for a private security company. He is seriously a fantastic character, he isn’t perfect but he tries so hard to love and protect those he cares about. I loved that about him, he is caring, compassionate and giving. That is how Nolan becomes the Dom to his submissive roommate, Daniella. This relationship works perfectly because Nolan doesn’t believe in love and he wants to give Daniella what she needs.

Nolan and Daniella do not have a typical relationship and are not boyfriend and girlfriend. So when Nolan meets Lacey at a bar he decides to pursue something with her. What he thinks will be temporary and strictly physical turns into more.

This isn't the plot line I would typically go for, I am always too scared to read books like this. BUT I am so glad I did. I was very intrigued by the story and how things would unfold. I found myself feeling empathy for all the characters and was really torn. Is Nolan ready to be a one woman man and settle down? Can Lacey share or will she require Nolan to make a choice? What will Daniella do if Nolan gives Lacey more? I was completely torn, but I loved that it kept me completely engaged.

I also liked how this story was more than just a romance story. Yes, the relationships were more complicated, but it also had secrets and plot twists that kept me turning the page. That’s what impressed me the most and I am so happy to see Kendall continually try new things.

Nolan doesn't do commitment, he would rather have no nonsense hook-ups than a relationship with a clingy woman. That's why his friendship with his roommate works so well for him, he gives her what she wants, a Dom in the bedroom, and she gives him what he wants, no commitment or jealousy. But then Lacey comes around and the rules change.

I liked the uniqueness of the story because it wasn't really a love triangle with all the drama, but it also wasn't a cheating scenario either. Quite frankly, I don't even know how to describe the relationships in this book. It was a very intriguing read and the first 70% of the book were good. I was captivated and couldn't wait to find out what the big secret was, but then it was revealed and the book was over before I could get a true explanation.

The last part of this book is what lowered the rating for me, because it was all so rushed and the answers that had me wanting to get to the end were all answered rather quickly. I wanted more to come from what we found out, I guess.

Overall, I liked the story but it wasn't the best for me. I recommend it to anyone that likes a unique twist on a love triangle, and a overprotective Hero. I would warn, though, to not go into this read expecting anything overly smutty, since the sexiness was seriously lacking.

Kendall Ryan has truly cemented herself as author who can master the art of incorporating seduction, raw emotions, and suspense into her storyline. In her newest release, Bait & Switch, Ms. Ryan has outdone herself as she did not give her readers a cookie cutter romance but instead gave her readers an unconventional love story that will have your hearts racing with the anticipation of how this romantic suspense love story will unfold.

One man. Two women. One is dark and one is light. One is innocent and one is a submissive. One seeks pleasure in pain and one seeks pleasure in comfort and safety. And both women are aware of each other. So in this unconventional tale, can a man find love and choose the women that is made for him?

photo 153af2380dd7ffbd2dd48c192b713b_zpscbwfr6sj.gif “Nolan needed me to accept him as he was—broken and all. And I did. That’s what scared me.”

While Bait & Switch is an unconventional love story, this book is also built on the foundations of suspense. Ms. Ryan delivers a story that will have readers begging for more as the anticipation of what lies ahead for these characters. Since this story is meant to be experienced, I urge readers to give this book a try. Ms. Ryan has written a story built on depth, complex characters, and a painful past. In this book, readers like myself will be fully invested with these raw characters as they discover what is truly important in their life. And just maybe, a complicated and unconventional love story maybe the book for you.

Two damage souls with murky parts who were perfect for each other.

Nolan

Romance-let alone monogamy- didn't even make the list.

I lived in the moment, and right now my mission was to enjoy life without getting tied down.

He was every bit the firm-tempered alpha male I dreamed he might be.

Lacey

She was walking contradiction. A bright smile and sweet personality, but with a secret darkness lingering in her eyes. Sharp and inquisitive, yet naive. Kind, yet guarded. Even her name suited her in a weird way. Lacey. Something delicate and intricate, pure white, beautiful...

Story

Nolan is a former Navy SEAL. Now he is a civilian and works in private security firm. He is living with Daniella, who he rescued two years ago from violent Dom. Nolan and Daniella are in relationship, not that kind of relationship.

Take advantage of my newfound freedom away from the military. Screw whatever women caught my eye. I gave Daniella what she needed to feel safe and satisfied, and in return, I had a live-in-fuck buddy to take the edge off whatever I needed it.

Until he meets Lacey.

The woman was becoming more perfect by the day. And that scared the fuck out of me.

I can't promise you romance, and I sure as fuck can't promise you forever, but I can offer you this. Now. And I promise everything I'm feeling for you is real.

Predictable story, but still very enjoyable.

This is an author I liked. Unfortunately, is another one who's going out of my list. She decided to take a route I despise: love triangle. I think there's this part where one of the woman says: ...I'm falling in love with him and I don't care he has another lover.... Disgusted right now. And disappointed.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
As of today I read this review and it just sealed the deal I'm not reading this. Disappointed.

And here's another one to solidify my decision. I'm also disappointing the author disclaimer this is not a love triangle when in reality it is.

Short Review from Summer backlog.

I rated it 2 in my notes..but I can't for the life of me remember why, so in retrospect, we're going with 1.

The only bait and switch here were the bitches stupid enough to be involved with the H. The baited one being the OW he takes care of as if he will PERMANENTLY, until he switches her for the low maintenance model, the h.

While there was no "technical" cheating, it sure felt like it. The h only accepted the relationship at first because she wanted his protection because of her "situation" she doesn't actually tell him about...but she really wasn't keen on the whole triangle thing. The OW didn't like the h in their life either. The H cares for and is emotionally connected to the OW through their BDSM...even though he's not totally game, he enjoys their sex. Doesn't have any intention of stopping said sex while pursuing the h. Cuz, (* shrugs*), the h said she was cool with it. (*eye-m'fing-roll*).

Safety gang, I'm sure you've already marked this as a pass and I can't say I would encourage anyone to read this as it really wasn't that great to begin with :(

The "real" plot she required protection for was all over the place, and convoluted, and to the point where it just became so ridiculous I got bored. Seriously. It was like a McGyver episode...with BDSM, a vanilla girl, and a pretend Dom.

In the end, I just didn't think the H/h/OW were worth all this trouble.

Okay, so was the title supposed to be attention-grabbing and misleading? I assumed this would be centered around a suspenseful plot, but... no dice. The suspense portion was so vague that I'm not sure why it was even included.

Don't even get me started on the subplot. I abhor any OM/OW/triangle situation and this book seemed to be somewhat based on that. WTF?! First of all, let it be known to ALL authors, when the first scene of the story is the H having sex with another woman, at least let it be before he's met the h. Second, don't let that scene seem hotter than the sex with the h.

Hell to the Naw. Not the case here. Not only does Nolan extol the virtues of his sex partner and how great the sex was, immediately afterwards he's not only getting ready for his date with Lacey, but while getting ready, he can't stop ogling his sexy sex partner and letting her ogle him. While he's getting ready to go out with the h!! Not to mention that he also internally remarks about how different and special Lacey seems and how eager he is to have sex with her sexy ass. WTF??!!

So yeah, my interest in the story took a nose dive and Nolan could drop off a cliff for all I cared. I read the book because I'm not a quitter, however, their HFN was absolutely meaningless to me.

Enjoy! xo

Full review to come for Release Day….. I will say this….WELL DONE Kendall Ryan, this is a MUST READ in my opinion!!!

FULL REVIEW POSTED ::

WOW!!! Kendall Ryan has stepped out of the box on this one. Bait & Switch is so different from her other books but she still gave us what we come to expect with a Kendall Ryan book…..a sexy, steamy, intriguing story and a Hero you can't help but fall in love with!!!

This review is probably going to be on the shorter side and fairly vague, because this is a book that every reader needs to read for themselves and experience everything it has to offer by themselves. So I am mostly going to stick to my thoughts while reading this book. I'm not going to talk about the storyline much at all because I don't want to give away spoilers.

What I will say about the storyline, is that, it will keep you guessing and hanging on all the way until the end. Right from the start we know Lacey is hiding something from Nolan, but we don't find that out until much later in the book. A lot of Lacey's story doesn't come out until closer to the end of the book. The majority of the beginning of the book is about Nolan and his interesting lifestyle and how he will incorporate Lacey into his life.

This book was filled with many amazing characters, both Primary and secondary ones. It was fun finding out about all of them and peeling back their layers to find what made them tick. Greyson's book is next and I can't wait to learn more about him!!

I will let you know that this story does touch a bit on a BDSM lifestyle, but it is pretty mild, so please don't let that turn you away from reading this book.

I would recommend this book to everyone who is looking for something new and interesting!! If you are a fan of Kendall Ryan's, you aren't going to want to miss this book….to me this is some of her best work to date, and that's saying something because I LOVE all her books. I love when a favorite author of mine takes a chance on something new and isn't afraid to step out of the norm a little and give us a different spin to a story.

Definitely a MUST READ!!!!

Kendall Ryan is one of my instant-one-click-authors, so when I received an email clarifying B&S I had to immediately read it. Since this is an IOCA, I did not read the blurb and her own little warning had me intrigued and a little worried. Two women. One man. Open relationship. OMG. Can I just die of angst right now?!?

Nolan is a retired Navy SEAL who has decided to live his life the way he wants to live it. Having fun and doing exactly what he wants. His relationship with his roommate is easy. He fills a role she needs and together they explore a D/s with benefits – friendship. No strings. No awkward silences. And then there is the new girl. The fresh faced, girl next door. A woman that surely won’t be interested in pursuing him once she knows he’s not a one-woman kind of guy... right? Wrong. She’s willing to give it a try.

Two women – exact opposites and one man who has a loyalty to both. But although this story does feature two women – it is not done in a way that makes you feel like any cheating is going on. Everyone is on the same page – everyone is entering this situation fully aware of the way things are. But I can say it is not buried in the story what is going to happen – there are some clues scattered throughout this book that kept my anxiety down to reasonable levels. Although we peaked a few times.

This is a very unconventional romance and not the typical story we’ve come to expect from KR. It had some darker elements than what we’ve seen before. But I really enjoyed this change up in style. I am going to go crazy waiting for Greyson’s book.

I just can't with this book. I have been clear in
my updates how I feel about this book and I
was thinking by not DNFing this book that
maybe I would read something that would
change my mind. I mean, it has tons of 5 star
reviews and so many people said this was not
a love triangle or it is a non cheating book.
I don't know what book they read, but this
book had all of that...plus a very weak, very
confused heroine.

This story was just not believable in the way
that I don't know a woman alive that would
put up with her man having a submissive-THAT
HE LIVES WITH AND PROVIDES ALL THINGS
FOR-then walking in on her man in a scene
with said submissive and then somehow feeling
like she deserved it because she was also hiding
something from her man. UGGGGGGGGGGGG
I will not allow this author to further insult
my intelligence. I will not be reading anymore
books by this author.

This is an unconventional romance that will leave your heart racing and your cheeks blushing! While I have heard many mixed reviews on this book (probably due to the fact that there is sort of, a love triangle) I actually found myself really enjoying this novel. Not only is it a fast paced, easy read, but there is definitely character growth, swoon worthy moments, and some suspense added in. With that being said, I read this book in only a few hours because it’s an easy read that flows really well and the characters definitely suck you in. This is the FIRST book I have read by the author and certainly won’t be my last.

Okay, so some may be wondering, what’s this love triangle you speak of… Let me be clear. There is no cheating (the characters weren’t together and the main character NOLAN’s intentions were never hidden from the heroine, Lacey). In fact, Nolan was very up front with Lacey in the fact that he didn’t do relationships, he never intended to start one with her, and he just enjoyed the company of women from time to time. Lacey is okay with this. She knows Nolan has another woman in his life- his roommate Daniella, who is a submissive. Lacey knows that the two have a Dom/Sub relationship but there never were feelings or emotions within their relationship. This is very true, and there is no hidden agenda or love on Daniella’s or Nolan’s Part. Because of this, I feel that this is an unconventional romance. Also, I don’t feel like this makes the story bad. In fact, it adds to the story. There are MANY relationships like this going on in the world and the author used this to enhance the story and I think she did an excellent job. SO… this love triangle I speak of isn’t necessarily what one might think when they see this term. In order to gain a better understanding as to what I am saying it would be helpful to read the story.
Other than this I enjoyed the characters and even the secondary characters. I am so glad that this is a series of standalone novels that will be told for the secondary characters like Greyson, whose story will be told next. I can’t wait to read it and I am eagerly awaiting its release!

Overall, this is a great romance. I enjoyed it very much and will be picking up more of the authors books in the future based on this read. With that being said, I would rate this book at 4.5 stars because I wish there was just a little bit more character development in the heroine, Lacey. While I did enjoy her character very much, I wish the author opened her up more like she did with Nolan. Other than that this is a wonderful, fast paced read. It has a lot of swoon worthy moments, some hot scenes, and a little bit of BDSM elements.

Hook, line, and sinker! Achingly addictive, Bait and Switch by the amazing Kendall Ryan is a sexy and suspenseful story about unexpected love against the odds. A delicious tale where dark meets light, Bait and Switch baited and snared me from the very first page.

Former NAVY Seal Nolan Maxwell doesn’t do relationships except the no-strings kind that may involve rope. Dark hair, blue eyes, tall, well built, intense, and dominant, Nolan is the ultimate alpha. Sex on legs. With a live-in lover who has a thirst for dark and dirty sex, Daniella, Nolan’s physical needs are sated and his emotions can remain safely sealed.

“With no interest in messy entanglements that could lead to commitment, I ensured my world didn’t involve heartache. I lived in the moment, and right now, my mission was to enjoy life without getting tied down. Screw whatever women caught my eye.”

His job is perfect, he has a bevy of beauties at his call with one right at home. A bachelor’s paradise. Nolan was living the dream. Life was perfect.

Until his idea of perfection changes and his life is uprooted by the beautiful dark haired, blue eyed, curvy, and mysterious Lacey Barton at a bar one night. Their chemistry: electric. Their encounter: magical. The emotions…wait…emotions?!? Yes, the ease of conversation and how easy it feels for Nolan to be talking to a woman where she is holding his interest beyond the bedroom throws this player off of his game.

“It seemed she liked what she say---and not just the outside package, like most women. She admired me, my work. It felt…nice.”

My first thought of Nolan: two-timing jerk. Manwhore. User. He is a total dog-douche and will sleep with both women, making me want to punch my e-reader.

Shocker. Nolan, refreshingly, is interested in Lacey beyond sex. Woah…wait?!?

Lacey has flown to Texas to escape a turbulent past. A fresh start. A new identity. Nolan is a beautiful bonus and she sees the good in him.

“Not only was he a tough, kick-ass ex-SEAL, but he was kind, generous, and warmhearted. The combination was enough to kick-start my libido and dampen my panties without even adding in his rugged good looks.”

Nolan wants to get to know Lacey before sleeping with her. Date her. Old-fashioned courting. With a budding relationship that feels real, Nolan is in foreign territory. The connection is just not buzzing around his man-parts but his heart.

“She was so beautiful when she looked at me softly like that. Her eyes told me all the things she didn’t say…Even though I admitted my wicked ways to her, she say past my sinful nature---and she still wanted me. It was a good feeling. Being accepted for who I was, not forced into some mold of who she wanted me to be.”

Lacey is smitten with Nolan as he is her. She sees past the sex god. Lacey sees the man both inside and out. He is her protector. Her lover. Her more.

Just as the relationship blossoms, a storm of darkness from Lacey’s past threatens to end it all.

“Nolan thinks we met by chance. We didn’t. I sought him out, seduced him, and in return got the sanctuary I needed to survive...When he finds out who I am, it’s going to ruin any chance I ever had with him anyway.”

Bait and Switch is a must-read romance that’s intense, intoxicating, and insanely good. Raw and riveting, this book will bait you in, switch a love triangle on its side where you will be pleasantly surprised and love the two-woman alpha, and leave you wanting more. I definitely wanted more and wish this story was a bit longer as Lacey and Nolan still have unfinished business.

I was so excited to read this story after seeing the book trailer for it. If you had not had the pleasure of viewing it, allow me to post the link for you:

Kendall Ryan knows how to deliver the heat and it starts on the very first page! Just so you know, you'll have to read this book to understand the storyline but Nolan is not a cheater. I mean c'mon! He's a Navy Seal, you know he's honorable! He found out that he needed these two women for very different reasons. Daniella and Nolan both were sort of using each other as a shield to protect themselves from acquiring a broken heart. Then he meets Lacey. He can't bring himself to treat her like all of his other side dishes. Waiting on their romance to play out was one of the best things about Bait & Switch.

I was honestly surprised to find out who Lacey was. I kind of thought the "special assignment" had something to do with her, but I never thought that was the reason why Nolan's boss was so concerned about it. It's really hard not to give away any spoilers, by the way, but I'm trying. I did find it a little odd that Nolan didn't pressure Lacey to find out more when she told him she was running from something. He is an ex-Navy Seal after all, it seems like he would want to know what he's getting into, but to be fair, he was already protective of her and maybe in too deep. Of course, everything is explained near the end and it all comes together in a good way. You do get an HEA.

Kendall Ryan shares a personal story with her readers in the author's note. It was a situation that gave her a deeper connection to this story. I think it was brave of her to include it and it's great that she trusts her readers so much that she knows she can share things like that.

Greyson's book is next and it sounds great! I can't wait to read it! This book releases on 2.9.16 and you should definitely grab a copy!

Kendall Ryan has has created a new genre of books for me. This is NOT a love triangle book, it's a love story, with a twist. I am the girl who usually doesn't "do" love triangle books. The synopsis hooked me, take the chance...meet Nolan and Lacey.

The prologue will capture your interest and the epilogue will make you swoon, it's what's in between that will make you believe that secrets should never be kept, but are sometimes necessary, it will remind you that it's the in between that counts.

Nolan the ex-Navy SEAL, leading his life the best way he can...cut off emotionally but finding pleasure in Daniella to fill the holes in his life and heart.

"....Daniella needed me, needed me to be the man to save her. So I made that my mission."

Lacey has a secret..."she's running from something". She needs the protection that Nolan can offer but she just may get more than she is bargaining for. She's not looking for love from Nolan but she's about to get more.

"I want you in my bed, Lacey. No use denying it"...

Nolan isn't the lovey dovey fall in love kinda guy but the feelings are undeniable when he meets Lacey. He's not himself with Lacey, but maybe he will become the man he's meant to be.

What I liked most about the book was their relationship wasn't about sex (not for a long time), they became friends, learned more about each other in the process, even though there were secrets and Daniella (who wasn't a secret), their friendship and relationship was more than sex. I read so many books and yes, I love some hot steamy bedroom scenes, this book offered the intimacy that I have found lacking in many romance books.

Thank you Kendall Ryan for bringing back the romance. I look forward to Greyson's book...when is that coming again?

Having read other books by Kendall Ryan (The Gentleman's Mentor, Filthy Beautiful Lies) I wanted to like Bait and Switch so much...and yet, it fell seriously flat for me.

First off, the book is nothing like the synopsis.

I’m a rescuer. It’s in my DNA.
Stray dogs. Stray women.
But this one doesn’t need rescuing.
She needs something real, but I never keep the ones I rescue.
I could let her go… but I can’t watch her walk away.
I’m an ex-Navy SEAL, and I never give up on a mission.

Nolan *is* and ex-SEAL, which we know because he and the author tell you REPEATEDLY. He meets Lacey, who does in fact actually need rescuing, which we know because she and the author tell you REPEATEDLY. Only Lacey DOESN'T tell Nolan she needs rescuing. Well, she does, but it's a one-line comment while he is busy trying to get jiggy with her, and he ignores it and she doesn't push for him to understand her dilemma. Very off-putting.

Second, the author has repeatedly stated in social forums that is NOT a love triangle and that there is no cheating. It's not a love triangle because he doesn't love the roommate he is currently screwing, and he never has sex with the roommate after he decides to have sex with Lacey. There is still sexual activity that occurs, but not penetration and he personally didn't "enjoy" it. So because he is not "sleeping" with both women, and because both women know about each other, it's not a love triangle and it's not cheating, in the author's viewpoint. I disagree, but I perhaps could have gotten over it had the sex at least been good.

Third, the writing was just terrible! I say this with a heavy heart because I personally could never write a book and get it to 272 pages from point A to point Z without getting lost along the way, so anybody that can write a book and do so deserves all the credit in the world. But I don't feel this author did get from point A to point Z, not clearly anyway. See the following examples of outright liberties with the story telling:

- Lacey and Nolan meet at a bar. He thinks it's by chance, she knew he would be there and arranged it so he would see her, like her, and want to talk to her, and we know this not because it was acted out, but because the author TOLD us this is what happened.

- We know that Lacey needs protection, but not from who or from what. She planned to meet Nolan and attach herself to him for his protection, but she never tells him about it. We don't know how she knows who Nolan is, where he would be, or that he would like her, it just is. And to go to all that trouble, but yet he doesn't ever find out she needs protection until it's too late.

- A few times in the story there is a white car she thinks is following her. We know Lacey is scared because the author says she is, not because Lacey ever actually acts scared. Again, instead of telling Nolan, this becomes a non-issue until all of a sudden it's an issue. We know because of the white car Lacey should be frightened, and Lacey mentions it in her inner dialogue in passing, but then she never acts on her suspicions.

- Lacey is kidnapped because her ex-boyfriend was a drug dealer and absconded with a lot of money, so the thugs are coming after her now to get it back. She is living on a $10/hr part time job, even though I know of no one who can pay rent and all their bills on $10/hr part time, and yet they think she has the money or that by getting her they can get to her ex. These are supposedly hardened criminals, and they don't touch her in any negative capacity except to tie her up. Never mind the fact that we are told how responsible and mature Lacey is, and yet she dated a jerk her father did not approve of, who ended up being an abusive drug dealer, and is someone she stayed with for YEARS. Because that's real responsible and mature.

- Lacey's dad turns out to be Nolan's boss. Nolan had worked with him for years and never knew he had a daughter. He is so interested in getting into Lacey's pants but never gets her last name. Lacey is in dire need of protection but doesn't tell her father (or Nolan). So when she gets kidnapped and her father is on the phone to Nolan within minutes, it's not surprising that Dad knows exactly who took her and the exact location of where she is being kept. Nolan shows up and without police backup he enters, has a minor interaction with the perps, rescues the princess, and then escapes, without any incident, and without any law enforcement of the kind. We find out that police came after they left with the main witness and any evidence on her person, and the perpetrators still get maximum jail time.

- The characters are pretty sure they are in love with each other, even though he is providing sexual services to a roommate and they themselves have not done more than finger-bang each other because they are "taking it slow". Not to mention every conversation they have starts and fizzles within a page or two. In fact, there is so very little dialogue at all to this book that we know the characters love each other because the author tells us they do, not because their interactions were sweet and romantic, or that there was depth and meaning displayed, so that every time a convo starts, it ends immediately with no substance to have occurred. We know they love each other only because she says so.

- The sex scenes are so very uninteresting. The very first scene is ok, but it's the only one like it. The second major scene between him and the roommate is primarily spanking, which gets her so high she's in subspace and has to be brought down carefully so that she doesn't bottom out. There was nothing remotely interesting to read or feel, we are just told that is how it happened. There is no sex of merit between Lacey and Nolan, a lot of high school getting through the bases each time they see each other going a little farther, but because they are "taking it slow", nothing of merit.

Over and over and over through this book we are told what is happening, we are told how to feel, and we are told what the results were. At no time does the author make you feel the characters emotions at any time. This book came off like a juvenile writing assignment, not at all like a book written by someone that has published 10 other books. This author is one of many self-publishers that are in such a hurry to get books out, that they don't take the time to hone their craft.

Maybe it's because I have read true masters of the genre in Lexi Ryan or Rosalind James, or maybe it's just that I was just never able to get over the idea in my head about what I thought the book would be about and what it was actually about. I would tell you what I thought it would be, but maybe I'll save that idea for when I actually decide to write that book I've always wanted to write. I certainly don't think I could do worse than this book here. I just couldn't connect with the characters or the writing style, and I have no clue how there are so many 5 star reviews on it. If 5 is the best a book can be, what are people comparing it to to give it a 5?! So in closing, my opinion is that this is not worth the time it would take to read it. Sorry Kendall!

I may have had some reservations about Bait and Switch due to the nature of the synopsis, I mean he has two women on the go at the same time. Yet, with the promise of no cheating, and wondering how the heck that was going to be avoided, drew me into reading Bait and Switch. Let me tell you I am so glad I did :)

Nolan, ex- navy seal of deliciousness that he is has white knight syndrome running through his veins. Convinced he has escaped the repercussions of seeing so much tragedy while on active duty he holds tight to his unconventional relationship with Daniella. Although it is obvious from the start that he doesn't embrace the same tendencies he is purely fulfilling a role within Daniella's life. Nolan is extremely protective and nurturing, something he doesn't give himself enough credit for. Instead hiding behind Daniella's presence in his life as a way of preventing anyone from getting close to him. He isn't truly happy and feels a desperate yearning for something unknown.

I don't normally quote in my reviews but I felt so strongly about this one I had to share it:

Sometimes our greatest scars are the ones we don't wear for the world to see. They're buried inside our hearts.

It is obvious Lacey is hiding something, desperate to escape whatever is chasing her and desperate enough to pretend to be something she isn't in order to be taken under Nolan's protection. Her vulnerability shines through the narrative.

Although neither of them anticipated the reaction to the other. Although the sparks are electric it was the way in which the characters develop and open up to the possibilities available to them that really made Bait and Switch stand out. I did feel as if some of the twists were easy to guess however, their execution exceeded all expectations. I adored the way in which Lacey feels safe and protected against anything when she is with Nolan as well as the sense of peace, calm and belonging she gives Nolan. If that doesn't scream love I don't know what does. embracing who you are and what you can be together makes up an extremely cleverly crafted story on Kendall Ryan's behalf.

I am so glad I put my reservations to one side in order to get to know Nolan and Lacey. A terrific start to the Alphas Undone series, I cannot wait to see who features next and maybe where I can find one of my own ;)
