Dating the son of a drug lord was bound to be complicated. Besides the obvious, Zara’s boyfriend, Jett, is also an alien, and she’s a half-breed still coming to terms with what that actually means. Thrown into a life where the human rules don’t apply, she meets surprise around every corner. The world that humans live in is not what it seems. As if that weren’t bad enough, Jett also has alien enemies—one’s that are hell bent on making him pay for what he’s done on his father’s order. But these enemies aren’t after him. They’ll take their revenge on the ones he loves. Caught up in a battle between the rival families, Zara will finally get to see what makes Jett a Royal and why she’s acquired a Royal entourage.
Okay, I'm actually torn about the rating I'm giving this book because I'm actually disappointed at how the book turned out.
Things I hated: - Zara and Jett were like horny rabbits the whole way through. The amount of sex they had OMG...get a room and leave the reader out of it!!! Don't get me wrong, I don't actually mind books with sex in them. In fact, I believe that it can actually enhance a story if used right (speaking of romance stories). But, in this book, it felt as though that's all these characters did and it happened so often that it became meaningless. It was just something the characters did before going about their day or at the end of the day or practically whenever they had been away from each other for like 2 seconds. - The romance was weak. Sometimes, the moments between Jett and Zara were nice, but a majority of the time it was cringe worthy. The romance was more lust than love, and I felt that, that really impacted the story and how it was told. Yes, the care was there, Jett did care about her, but it was almost soppy one-half the time, and the other half they were humping each other. - Jett was always pulling her onto his LAP! Like for frog's-sake! There are other things the characters can do with each other than Jett constantly pulling Zara onto his lap EVERY SINGLE TIME they conversed...leave the lap alone...walk away from his lap!! I felt like by Jett constantly doing this, it demeaned Zara's character and almost made her come off like a child rather than a heroine. - That damn club and the number of times they went to that Froggin club!!! Yes, we get it. . I felt like this happened too much in the story as well. Like whenever they would go to the club they would always have a drink. The same drink. Nothing new happened. Nothing changed about the club and what they did at the club.
- The lack of empathy for losing her friend. Okay granted, Zara did feel a little upset over the death of this character for like a chapter. But, the character was soon forgotten about and was never mentioned again as if the event didn't even happen. - The length it took for the storyline to get interesting... :/. - The unsatisfactory ending...like what happened to Bartoli? The characters seemed to just forget about Bartoli. Romans confession...it just seemed too easy.
Things I did like: - The storyline, or rather the concept surrounding the storyline. The Human trafficking storyline was actually pretty interesting, albeit, it took the storyline forever to get to the point! - The action was pretty awesome. When there were actually interesting scenes and things happening to the characters, it was actually pretty good. - The scenes were set well, unlike the previous books, which were a bit jumpy and didn't provide much setting.
Overall, I think the rating I'm going to give this book is a 2.5/5. The overall concept of the story was good, however, the execution of the novel wasn't so good. It took me FOREVER to try to finish this book because it was so hard to be interested in it due to the repeat behaviour of the characters. I almost think the author cheated here and there and actually just copied and pasted some of the dialogue between Jett and Zara because seriously it just seemed like they were saying and doing the same things with each, over and over again, just in different settings. For a story to get me hooked there needs to be excitement and differences in the romance. Even small differences make up things. In truth, half way through this book, I was so close to giving up on this series, but I stuck with it and forced myself to finish it in the end, even though it took me a couple of months. I'm going to have to think long and hard about whether I want to read the 4th book in the series...but first, I need to get over my disappointment with this book. :( ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I enjoyed the first two books on this series but now I am done. The 3rd book is a rip off in price. I don't understand why the price went up then goes down again at book four. There was no characters development on this book. At book three I was hoping the heroine to continue learning to fight as what was alluded to on the ending of book two. Instead it went the h was weak and pathetic. The h male was also weak. Not being portrayed as badass not like his brother. I got tired of reading how much the h/h supposedly have sex except it was explained as they got it on and it felt good then repeat again. No showing just telling. Not much is shown except the kissing. Which was a lot. The characters were unappealing and boring to me. Totally disappointing. One of my pet peeve is when the secondary characters (i.e. the second half breed female) and the brother became more interesting/badass than the primary characters. I wish I can get my money back. Another series that flaps after book two. I can't recommend this book.
Wow! I'm sad and disappointed in this 3rd book. Loved the 1st book, second one meh and third, not so much! It just went from great action with a great story to all they did was have sex, go to Jett's and Zane's alien "feeding" bar and watch humans get degraded, drugged and used. I lost respect for Zara when once she got in the unhealthy relationship with Jett (which in the beginning I was all for of course) because she didn't want anything to do with her friends anymore but be with Jett all. of. the. time!!!! I am not kidding! She would get irritated with her friends for interrupting her time with her man, want to rip girls throats out by showing Jett any kind of attention and...all of the sudden she thought humans were below her??? Yeah, so she's half alien but talk about taking it to the extreme. I will say that she didn't lose all her integrity because she didn't like all the drugs being used towards the humans but, now that she was part of the "family" she wanted to get involved with what they did.....which was drug the humans?? I'm confused! You don't like the way humans are being drugged but you help Jett go get the drugs?? She did protect her friends and told the aliens they were off limits. Well, that was nice for them... Towards the very end, there is more of the story that gets unfolded and brings to light what's going on so that's helpful. Now Zane is brought more into the picture with a half-breed love interest so it looks like Carrero is going to write him in a good light now. No longer will he be the complete JERK that he is has been but he has been misunderstood because he didn't have a girl to love (although he had sex with girls on a daily basis). Oh brother!! I didn't know quite what to think of Roman (their dad) but I liked how he explained the whole human trafficking and how he was involved. I will finish the 4th book just because I've invested in the characters but I pray that there won't be the insufferable page by page talk how they have to be with each other every second or the constant lust/sex factor between them and everyone else. Please more substance! More action and less of well, honestly, less Jett and Zara together. Let them grow up!
I thought this entire series was really amazing. So much so that I could not stop long enough to write an individual review so I am going to have to sum it up here and post it for every book in the series. I love Carrero's spin on the YA/NA mob romance. Trust me, you will be like WHAT? Her writing is interesting and steamy in many ways. Her descriptions of bonding really made feel what being one would really feel like. Now human trafficking is one of my big no nos that I usually do not read about and am a volunteer bringing awareness about this in SC, but I can say this...Carrero does something I have never seen before. She uses fiction to make a stand. She shows the people in power making a stand to make a change. So, I applaud Carrero on her approach to this very disturbing and sensitive subject matter
This is an intriguing idea and Carrero has such an interesting concept that I can't wait to read more of her books. New fan here! Now beware that this series gets seriously gory as it progresses so weak stomach beware. Also, Americans please make sure you are brushed up on your British slang or your gonna be a little confused.
No, I wouldn't say I like it when someone died, especially someone innocent. Also, Zara and Jett still can't put their hands down. Please, I need more actions than romance. The revelation was what I liked in this book; it's shocking.
From an outsider view, Roman is an evil man and selfish, keeping the 'good stuff' for his family members to be influential, no matter what's the reason behind 😆. One more book to go for the finale! I hope Jenna is getting her hybrid too, why not? Maybe Roman has one in stock 🤣.
I wanted to get into the back stories, but instead this book was built around soft-core porn. So it turned me off from the book a bit. Towards the end of does get better and mind blown but you had to get past all the erotica.
Gotta do what you gotta do. The bonding experience sounds fantastic. Heck the sex sounds fantastic. Wish I could have Jett for myself but he is perfect with Zara.
An eye for an eye is the way it has always been done... They must put an end to him before it’s too late... Only, it may not be that simple...
While I enjoyed this book, I honestly felt like the majority of this novel was drawn out and if you excluded those certain scenes, it would have ended quickly.
That's why the author just kept adding those scenes over and over again. (I'm being vague on purpose as I don't want to give much away).
Because of this, it took me a while to finish it. I had to read it when I was in the mood to do so. I'm disappointed because usually this author is on point, and I love her books.
Full of hybrids, aliens, drugs, humanity, friends and romance.
THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A 5 STAR READ FOR ME BUT I don't like how the story line deviated from JETT AND ZARA. THOUGH I'M HAPPY FOR ROMAN AND K....... SOMEHOW I NEED FOR JETT AND ZARA TO BECOME TOP DOGS ONCE AGAIN... OVERALL IT STILL WAS A GREAT STORY!!????
Better the first time. Had to reread because I couldn't remember what happened and I wanted to read the next book. It took a while to get through but it was still good
