The Pony Girls Series might attract readers who love horses and stories that have girl characters exclusively. Daniela is from Costa Rica and is spending the summer at Storm Cliff Stables, where she meets, for the first time, her cousin Gabriela, who lives in California. Instead of an instant family bond, the girls find themselves trying to be better than each other at everything they try at camp. Through different experiences the girls learn more about each other, stop seeing each other as rivals, and listen to the advice of older campers and the camp director, who everyone calls Aunt Jane, and start recognizing that they should admire the greatness in each other, instead of envying it. Readers who finish the Pony Girl series, but still want more, can read the Storm Cliff Stables Series by the same author, that focuses on the older campers' stories, but include Pony Girls-Daniela, Carly, Gabriella, and Kianna.

Daniella has come all the way from Costa Rica to attend a riding camp with her cousin Gabriella. The four youngest campers call themselves the Pony Girls, but Daniella doesn’t feel like part of the group especially when Gabriella tries to one-up her on everything.

Dealing with issues such as one-upmanship, building friendships, and finding your own special talents this beginning chapter book covers topics important for young readers. It is part of a four volume series covering a story about each of the four Pony Girls. I would recommend this book for purchase by any school or public library. This book was provided by the publisher for professional review.
