Thirteen-year-old wallflower Veronica’s most intense emotions physically manifest themselves in hilarious and embarrassing ways.
Veronica McGowan is a typical, unremarkable, average thirteen-year-old. And this is the bane of her existence. Desperate to be an “Est”—cutest, smartest, funniest—Veronica bumbles her way through 8th grade, never truly being herself for fear of rejection. Being a teenager is hard enough without the whole demoralizing world of Pearce Middle School knowing how you really feel. And nothing could be worse than everyone discovering how lame you really are. Or so she thinks….
One night, Veronica plots a way to become cool, wishing something—anything—about her would change, making her an “Est.” The next morning, Veronica wakes up for another woeful day of teenage anonymity, only to make a mortifying discovery—her strongest emotions physically manifest themselves in weird ways!
She belches fire when she’s angry, dark clouds soak her with rain when she’s sad, and she grows a protective turtle shell when she’s frightened. But worst of all, whenever she daydreams about her biggest crush, Veronica is bombarded by giggly, cutesy, floating hearts! Yep. That’s worse than being lame. For once, Veronica longs to be a wallflower. But Veronica’s emotions are on a roller-coaster ride, and her powers are running haywire.
It looks like Veronica has finally become an “Est.” But who would ever want to be—the weirdest?!
I absolutely LOVED this book. It's funny, sweet and has a great message. If you have a tween weirdo in your family (and aren't all tweens weird?) you should make sure they have this book on their shelf!
This book was so good and it made me laugh so much. Any age can read this book but never get tired of the jokes and the story itself.
Veronica is a teenager who hates her life. She wants to become an 'EST' (Cutest, Smartest, Richest, Funniest...) but always fails at every chance she gets to become an 'EST'. One morning, when she wakes up, she has flying happy hearts in her bedroom. She thinks that its all in her imagination but later when causes something big to happen, she knows that it's real. She grows a protective turtle shell when she is scared, blows fire when she's angry and many other feelings control the way that she does things.
One thing she always wonders: Will she lose her powers one day?
I really didn't know what to expect from this book. To start, the doodles absolutely made my reading experience better. They're hilarious and really make the book so so much better. I am 23 and I loved reading this book. When I first started I was so nervous because it is sort of written for kids... But after continuing, I really couldn't put it down. It's a short little book but honestly a lot goes on. Veronica is awesome and honestly I pictured her like I looked in middle school. It was so awesome to have a character who wasn't perfect and loves nerdy stuff and eventually learns that being herself is the best person to be.
I don't know if this book would be able to have a sequel but I would read it in a heartbeat! I love that my favorite clothing company (HerUniverse) is publishing books now!
