Candle magic is something almost everyone has tried, even as a child - who hasn’t made a wish over a birthday cake? Candle spells are among the easiest yet also the most effective to perform. They are perfect for anyone who wants to have a go at casting a spell for the first time and for the solitary witch with a busy life. Yet candles are also an important part of modern pagan witchcraft rituals. They are used to mark the quarters of the circle, placed on the altar and can represent the changing seasons of the year. This book is aimed at all who want to use candle magic, from beginners to those experienced in the craft; with everything from simple castings to elaborate and beautiful ceremonies. It offers a background to candle magic as well as spells, rituals, divination techniques, meditations, a guide to making your own candles and more.
Too fun. Really. The title says "A witch's guide to spells and rituals." What a fascinating window it is to a witch. 95% t of the rituals and spells were designed to bring positivity, invoking good and helpful emotion. I'd like to think this is the root of pagan philosophy.
I'm a huge fan of candles. The author talks about how she remembers attending Mass and how she found the associated candles in the Catholic church to be relaxing. I agree. I use candles to surround myself with a pleasant scent and light with regularity. And there's nothing better than a bubble bath with candles and a nice glass of wine.
Candles bring feeling. Candles also enable one to focus.
Easy to read, simple combination of colors, oils, and explanations.
A fantastic introduction to candle magic. Seriously, great book for beginner witches and intermediate witches too (or those who just want to brush up on their candle magic). Lucya has covered the basics really well, hasn't culturally appropriated anything and it's written in such an easy to understand manner, and gets right to the point. Definitely recommend.
I got a number of very nice ideas from this little book, as well as some good simple introduction to other pagan principles. The book is written primarily from a Gardnerian Wiccan perspective. As a pagan who is very uncomfortable with Wicca I disagreed heavily with a number of the author’s comments on practice, but I knew that would be an issue going in and still found many of her thoughts on candle magic in specific to be useful and interesting.
The book is definitely for beginners! True beginners! For those who have never ever practised magic before! It is way too 101 book. I bought this book thinking that it would give me loads of interesting spells with candles, but instead, there were very few spells and rituals in here. Some spells were really good and interesting and I will be definitely using them in my spell casting routine, but many spells were way too simple, almost 'silly'...
I loved this book. I think this is the perfect guide for basic candle magic with information about types of candles, colours, herbs, oils, and the best time to do certain spells. Easy to read and straight to the point. Anyone interested in starting their witchcraft journey, I recommended having this book part of your collection.
A useful, practical and informative little book. Although of most benefit for those starting to look into this subject, there is still something to learn or make you think in this slim volume for those that have been doing candle magic for a long while, too. For example, some of the correspondences given were very familiar to me, but there was also some that make a lot of sense, which were not. A good introductory book that is written in a very easy to read style. It is a book that encourages the reader to do and try things.
