I picked this book up in the gift shop at the National Gallery (although you can order it online too) because it had large photographs of the most popular artists in the Gallery's permanent collection. The collection is massive and includes Rubens, Titians, Degas, Brueghel, and Filippo Lippi.

Also included with the photos are written segments on the artists, techniques, and importance of the painting. In that sense, it follows other museum criterion books making it perfect as a souvenir or coffee table book.

Other artists of note in the collection (and included in the book) are the famous Frederic William Butler, Caravaggio, Claude Monet, Johannes Vermeer, J.M.W. Turner, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, and Jack B. Yeats.

The National Gallery also has a large collection of Irish artists. Two of my new favorites are Daniel Maclise (painter) and Harry Clark (stained glass). Their work is included in this book as well.

I cannot recommend visiting this museum in person enough. They have such a nice collection of European works. Also, the gift shop is a delight and was bustling when I went.
