Consequences of My Body

Rate this book
The varying poetics of both ancient and modern Arabic poetry inflect this book-long exploration of the materiality of the body, negotiating the terrain of love and its denials.Zaher explores the landscape of life fraught with disappointments and occasional triumphs through fragments, lyrics, metatextual pauses, stutterings, translations of ancient poetry, and the occasional late-night email. This epic foray into fraught emotional territory is alive with Zaher s particular gift of keen observation, deft whimsy, and superb intelligence."

I found the book interesting though I didn't particularly love it (and I realize that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.).

Some sections felt very unfinished/unrevised to me.

I would seek out more from this poet, though I would probably not reread this particular tome.

A smart and humorous long poem about how one person can leave their interior-body to make connections (mental, romantic, physical, etc) with another. Can occasionally be a bit crude/dude-ly for a poetic work, but spun the right way it could be said to be ‘honest.’

My head responded to the furthered work of a lover continuing to love, and as an extension of love all other feelings we should be concerned with: all of them.
