At last, I have a manga I can point to and say, "THIS is how graduation arcs should go!"

"Say I Love You" does a good job of focusing more on the "what do I want to do after high school" aspect of graduation, rather than the "OMG WE'LL NEVER SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN!!!" aspect. Say I Love You acts like the internet and phones are a thing and that you will, in fact, see your friends again after you graduate. There's a bit of time spent on not seeing each other as much, but to a realistic extent. There's also some sadness at leaving all those memories behind at the school, but again, it's not drawn out to the point where it's getting to be the whole volume.

I guess what I'm saying is that "Say I Love You" paces this stuff a lot better than other manga I've read, and also seems a bit more realistic than the over-the-top drama of some other series. Admittedly, it wasn't a case of "all of the feels," but I felt like I could relate to this one a bit more.

I loved this Volume!

The transition from high school to college, from seeing your friends everyday to seeing them once in a while or never, college entrance exams, mixed feelings related about their future.

It's also a volume full of reflexions of the past/present and emotional growth since the start of the story till now.

I can't wait to read the next vol! I wonder when author is going to conclude the story. At the start of college life? In the middle of it? or are the characters going to fullfil their dreams one by one?

In conclusion, this was a great read and I recommend it.

Cute!!! I loved the author’s note (as per usual) where she said that high school isn’t the end, it’s just the beginning. Now that the characters we’ve followed for 15 books are officially adults, i’m excited to see where life leads them! I wonder what trials they’ll face and how they’ll tackle them. I worry about megumi. Excited for the next one!

Honestly a really solid volume, so close to a 4 star for me except I really just cannot stand Rin and Len and find their storylines so shoe-horned in. I think they could make compelling leads in their own manga series and journey, they just felt unnaturally shoved into the story world of this one as it stands.

Amazing manga, even if it's different from the anime. Lots of cliffhangers in this manga.

Suki-Tte Ii Na Yo a.k.a Say I Love You

A light read filled with positive messages.

(The rating and review are conclusion for all of the volumes excluding the synopsis. Beware of spoiler.)

《 Plot 》
The pace of the story is good. Although there are 18 volumes all over, it doesn’t make you lose interest in it. The story starts by introducing Mei who's a bully victim. She doesn’t have any friends because she always distances herself from people. This is because she has been betrayed by her friends back in the middle school. Ever since then, she never trusts people anymore. However, she begins to change when she gets to know Yamato. Yamato is a popular guy that has many friends and is wayyy too friendly with girls. He starts to approach Mei when she kicked him because of some misunderstanding that happened. Yamato pursues Mei every day which eventually leads them being together. The story starts to develop from there and it’s being told from Mei’s POV.

《 Characters 》
Mei Tachibana, the heroine
When Mei starts falling in love with Yamato, she feels scared of showing everything to him. I can relate to that a lot because you don't know how things will be so it's scary. There are other moments that I can relate to but I won't tell you to avoid spoiler.

At one point, Mei begins to change herself by engaging more with people around her. That's what makes her strong and kind girl. She is very observant of people around her and tries to help them the best she can. I love her character development.

Yamato Kurosawa, the hero
Yamato is a typical cool who is popular for his kindness. Despite being a cool popular guy, he still has his own flaws. There are some issues that he struggles with but didn't let people see him in that way. I wouldn't really picture him as a really good guy. He has his flaw but he learns to change little by little.

《 Pros & Cons 》
Realistic & healthy relationship
↳ There are several couples born in this comic and each of them shows what relationship is likely to be in real life especially Mei’s relationship. If you have been in a relationship, several situations that happened will make you go “Omg, I went through that too!”. On top of that, most of them are in a healthy relationship making it enjoyable to read.

Positive messages
↳ It touches the issue of bully and friendship. Although Mei has been bullied, she doesn’t retaliate at those who had betrayed her back then. It also shows that life is more wonderful with loyal companions being by your side.

The art drawn
↳ It’s not that the art are bad or anything. It’s just not really my cup of tea. I noticed that the art was changing slightly as the volume continues on. It got better in my opinion.

《 Extras 》
My favourite manga! I keep going back to this whenever I feel like reading something light and fun. This is my first manga that I read when I first started to read comic. I was so happy when I found out this comic had completed in English version. These are several quotes that I love from this story.
“Nothing makes a girlfriend more insecure than a boyfriend who's kind to everyone.”
“No matter how beautiful you are, when you're dating someone, all of your flaws come out.”
“If you want to move forward, sometimes, you can't keep doing things the way you've always done them. That peace of mind ruins you and hurts people.”
“You can get stronger by loving others and letting them love you.”

⚝ Who should read? ⚝
❥ Enjoy high school story.
❥ Love friendship theme story.
❥ Can tolerate typical “famous guy” falls for “unpopular girl”.

3.5-4 stars.

Reading this made me wish that my high school experience was different and that I made different choices and reached out to people. It also made me wish that I wasn't going through the start of my twenties in a global pandemic... well. I feel really happy for Mei that she was able to turn her high school experience around and find good people in her life and grow to be a better, more open person. (I also really loved the sleepover with the girls! Their friendship is one of my favorite parts of the entire series and I adore the development that they have all had with each other)

Seeing Ren deal with rejection was really relatable. While I didn't like that he took his feelings out on Mei (with the online comments) and Rin, I understood where it was coming from and that type of lashing out when you don't know how to really deal with your feelings.... yeah. Also, the specific pain of rejection where you are 100% certain that you are going to be rejected, but it still hurting like hell when you get that confirmation...... yeahhh.

One thing that I can compliment this series for is how it captures emotions, especially when you are a teenager and you are feeling things for the first time and it's overwhelming and you don't really know how to cope with it yet. Like even though I didn't go through the same things as the characters, so many of their feelings really resonate and I completely understand where they are coming from.

(I'm still upset that Megumi is with that grown man and that it still isn't shown as inappropriate.) But I really liked that last scene between Kai and Megumi. I hope that they both keep their promises.

Overall, this volume just made me nostalgic for a lot of moments that I have never had and now I have this warm and kind of sad feeling in my chest.

4.5/5

I didn’t think I’d like this volume even more than the last but I was wrong—and I’m really glad that I am. I think a main reason is because the author refers back to the beginning of the story/how the characters were like in the start of the series and connects to how it relates to their conversations/what’s going on with their side of the story in the present—in other words, how much they’ve changed and grown from then to now. [Potential spoilers] I’m particularly referring to the part with Kai and Megumi. I actually really like their conversation. They’re an unlikely pair of friends but yet they seem to get each other pretty well.

One part that really got me was when Mei thought about the memories she’s made in the school for the past 3 years, how much her life have changed due to meeting new people, and that she’s glad she was able to change the way she thinks and move forward with her life.
[Potential spoilers over]

I wish I had read this earlier but at the same time, I’m not sure if it would’ve helped. But I think even if it wouldn’t have helped that much, it would’ve still been nice, perhaps, to read it earlier~

One thing this series is so good at is really getting into the mindset of teenagers in that period when your childhood is ending and adulthood is forced upon you. The uncertainty of moving forward but being forced to anyways, how monumental and looming everything about the future feels. It's something that is perfectly shown in this volume particularly, as the characters graduate highschool.

I first read and connected with this series when I was in highschool myself, and reading this volume it is so evident why. I do wish a bit more focus was on Mei and Yamato's relationship as that has been something lacking now for several volumes, but its lack did not detract from the melancholy focus of moving into adulthood that this volume had.

So that's a wrap! High school is over, many tears were shed and everyone is looking towards the next step and new beginnings of their life.

Awww this volume was so bittersweet my babies are all grown up they’re graduating :((( My gut is telling me there’s more to Kai and Megumi than meets the eye and at first I didn’t fuck with it but, I kinda had a change of heart about them. Plus anything is better than the 30 year old white guy who approved of this….

I like how this series is moving beyond their high school experience. Most shojos seem to end as soon as the MCs have sex or graduate. This one is continuing into their college and adult life, showing how they deal with being apart and grow together as a more mature couple.

mi a căzut o lacrimă ca au absolvit, dar mai mult ca mă gândeam că la anul când o să absolv o să mă simt la fel ca Mei. Toată nostalgia care o să mi apară cu toate amintirile petrecute în liceu cu prietenii

(╥﹏╥) crying
