Sam, a teenager who grew up in a cave in Ireland after the End War, is thrust into a world very unlike their own when Sam decides to help a mysterious stranger named Carter who controls a dragon. But not everything is as it seems as Sam learns the truth about what dragons really are. Sam is imprisoned in the new world, awaiting trial for shooting Carter, when Sam is violently attacked in a prison cell. In desperation Sam fights back, but will the jury's fear of outsiders doom Sam to a death sentence? And if Sam is freed, will Carter's army turn Sam into a cold-blooded killer, like the ones that murdered so many hunters from the Crag? Sam's world is turned upside down in this dark tale of finding one's identity and allegiance.
Sky Machine is the sequel to the novel Sky Child, and the 2nd book in the Sky Child trilogy.
Hailing from the desolate wasteland that is Portland, Oregon, T. M. is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. He may have been a spy for the Allies during World War II, or possibly the greatest fencer who ever lived. He might also be the person who invented the bread tie (a bow tie made out of bread), or the man responsible for the end of disco. But you don't know, and he can neither confirm nor deny any of it. He has the mind of a steel trap; an old, damaged, rusted out steel trap, and a face to match. He can lift 50+ pounds without assistance, and jump several feet in a single bound. He is both your friend and your worst nightmare. He is myth, legend, and sometimes devourer of baked goods. He is T. M. Brenner, author extraordinaire.
OMG. The first book was decent, but this one really drew me in and I couldn't put it down. This book introduces a whole new level of complexity to the story.
Now to go through the waiting hell for the next one to come out... The struggle is all to real
YET! I wish I hadn't read this book YET. You know how you're looking for something new to read and you come across a book that is really good, then you find out it's part of a series where each book in that series is already published and available? Jackpot! I love it when that happens! T. M. Brenner tortures us all with the ending of this book. Oh, the waiting for the third book is going to kill me. I really, really enjoyed Sky Child, and I have to admit I didn't think I would like Sky Machine as much. I didn't like the fact that Sam was going into the modern world. I love being taken away to a different place when I read. I loved reading how Sam dealt with situations in the "primitive" world. I really didn't want Sam to have to acclimate to something close to the world we live in today. I didn't want my imagination to have to come into this world as I read. This is why I love to read. T. M. Brenner's mind takes my imagination in a direction I can't find on my own. This is a great escape. It stimulates emotion. I loved it and seriously cannot wait to read what happens next!
