A self-professed crazy chicken lady, Danica Favorite loves the adventure of living a creative life. She loves to explore the depths of human nature and follow people on the journey to happily ever after. Though the journey is often bumpy, those bumps are what refine imperfect characters as they live the life God created them for. Oops, that just spoiled the ending of all of Danica’s stories. Then again, getting there is all the fun.
I loved this story, especially the way Emma Jane and Jasper grew and changed. You can't go wrong with adorable babies, bandits who need captured, and kidnappings. The book held my interest throughout, and I highly recommend it.
I really did not like this book. To me it read like one of those stories which were specifically written to teach you a lesson rather than to be enjoyed. I didn't care for how it opened or how the 2 characters interacted with each other, nor for their backstories. The book just read as forced. Also, I know that authors don't always get to choose their cover art but you cannot choose a cover with a woman who is clearly not plain when the book emphasized how plain the main character is. There is nothing wrong with a person being plain in appearance but if a person's looks are brought up again and again (and again) in the book it needs to be taken into account when choosing a cover.
Leadville, Colorado is home to Jasper Jackson and Emma Jane Logan. This couple of the late 1800's finds themselves trapped in a marriage of convenience when Emma Jane's reputation is compromised after being with Jasper in a mine through an unfortunate event.
Jasper's family is wealthy yet he lacks a purpose in his life and is constantly being under the thumb of his controlling mother. Emma knows her marriage is a sham in name only and the Jackson family has also used their wealth to help pay off Mr. Logan's gambling debt and have Emma Jane's family relocate back east.
Emma Jane finds fulfillment in helping others with the church's various missions. She is the object of gossip by the local mean spirited Flora. Emma always makes do and tries to find the good in all people and all situations except when it comes to her relationship with Jasper. She does enjoy reading her Bible which brings her great comfort.
When Jasper becomes a deputy he fulfills a promise he made to a lady Mel to rescue her sister from a brothel. Emma gets caught up in the search for Daisy and they encounter bandits with an evil plan along with way.
Their lives are threatened and they rescue Daisy's son whom Emma Jane wants to raise as her own. She names him Moses.
It was wonderful reading how Emma Jane and Jasper developed their relationship.
This book had a lot of great faith messages in it such a loving one another, gossiping, being just hearers of the word and not doers of the words and trusting God.
If you love reading faith based historical romance this is a wonderful book to read.
Shotgun Marriage written by Danica Favorite was really good! Emma Jane Logan and Jasper Jackson were forced by extenuating circumstances to get married to help calm down the rumors. Well that didn't work with Emma Jane's husband running around after bandits with what was supposed to be their wedding night. Her mother in law, the Mrs. Jackson, who was also giving Emma Jane the cold shoulder wasn't helping her either. Jasper Jackson doesn't want anything to do with the marriage he feels he was trapped into and resents having his choice of whom he had wanted to spend the rest of his life with taken away. When Emma Jane is kidnapped by the bandits for witnessing a murder of a friend Jasper Jackson springs into action to save his wife and becomes captured himself. During their ordeal Emma Jane has found herself in the care of an orphaned baby and a not so happy husband. Can Emma Jane and Jasper Jackson realize the blessings right in front of them before it's to late? This story takes place in the late 1800s and really makes you think about how important forgiveness and love are.
Shotgun Marriage by Danica Favorite. This a historical romance taken place in 1881. Emma Jane comes from a poor family. Her dad drinks and gambles. He lost most of their money. When there was a fire Emma Jane went to help. After the fire was out she went for a walk, at night. She fell in a mine. Jasper Jackson heard her screamed and went to save her. He fell in. She pushed him out of the way as a big rock was falling in on them. Because they were the only ones in the mine, that did not look good. Emma Jane's parents demand that Jasper marry her to save her reputation. Jasper's family has lots of money. Jasper has a hard time with the marriage, because it wasn't something he wanted. You need to read this one. Very good.
jasper and emma jane's relationship gets off to a ruff start. the odds were not in their favor. yet, they end up creating a strong bond as they discover each other. they start off not really listening or talking to each other, but as they grew in their faith, they began to listen both to each other and to God's plan. i loved the fact that jasper wasn't the only one doing the rescuing. emma jane saving his bacon multiple times was a nice change from the norm.
i really enjoyed the series, with this one being my favorite. i would definitely recommend.
"Fans who have been itching to find out what happened to Emma Jane and Jasper will absolutely adore this story. Favorite does a wonderful job portraying their marital struggles and Emma Jane’s strong faith despite adversity" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).
I really enjoyed this...then again, I always enjoy the "stuck together" tropes. Jasper is as amazing as I thought he was and Emma Jane bloomed once she found her strength:) Loved it. Read it!
