Mountain Man Smoke Jensen's long-lost brother Luke Jensen is a dead shot scarred by war--the perfect formula for a bounty hunter. And he's cunning, and fierce enough to bring down the deadliest outlaws of his day. . .
Law Of The Gun
Luke Jensen has earned this bounty, hunting down the violent man charged with murdering a preacher's daughter. The outlaw Judd Tyler confesses to many crimes, but not the girl's murder. And he tells Luke they won't reach the town of White Fork alive because a corrupt sheriff does the bidding of a cattle baron, and that man's son is the true killer. Sure enough, halfway to White Fork, Luke and his prisoner are battling for their lives, and when they finally reach town, they're greeted by a storm of bullets, betrayal, and blood. With a band of innocent travelers caught up in the melee, Luke is outgunned, surrounded, and sure of only this: his only job now is survival--by the measured, efficient, righteous killing of as many men as he can...

Again, not a bad read. One thing I do not like is how it has similar or same moments throughout the book. A story is told and then is told a couple or a few other times to the same person. I know, I’m looking too much into a western read but as I had read hundreds of westerns in the past, thought I would make this comment.
Another great entry in the Luke Jensen series. An more involved book that\n most Johnstone books with better writing and plot.
The story starts as most Johnstone books do with a quandary. Most johnstone books see an obvious ending. This does not have that ending and there are many turns in the story to add complexity to the tale. The ending is standard Johnstone and this is a repeat ending of other Johnstone tales.
Bottom line: I recommend this book. 6 out of 10 points.
Luke is on the prowl to capture Judd Tyler, who is convicted of murdering a preacher's daughter. After locating where Judd is, Luke meets up with him, but not in the expected way. Judd knocks Matt out with a sneak attack. Luke recovers and captures the criminal, and this is where the action starts. After learning that the reward for Judd is not going to be paid unless he is delivered to White Fork and handed over to the sheriff. Judd tells Luke, if you try and deliver me there, we both will be killed before we get there because the only person in the town who is an officer of any honest kind is the judge. Judd confesses to Luke that he has committed some non-violent crimes, but he could never kill the girl because they were close friends, and he tells Luke who did. Luke does not believe him, but time has a way of shedding light on everything. Does Luke find out before it is too late, and he and his captive are killed? READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT.
Review of AUDIO DRAMATIZATION VERSION: Luke Jensen Bounty Hunter - Death Rides Alone. This is one of Johnstone’s very best, featuring the very tough, but very fair, Luke Jensen. The thrilling ending was brilliant. The dramatization was so fun to listen to. In my opinion, the multiple narrators and sound effects breathe the characters and events to life as if you were a bystander watching it all. Loved it! Highly recommended for Johnstone and western genre fans.
Way too many mistakes, inconsistencies, continuity errors and overall flummery.
These Luke Jensen books have been going downhill. Not bad enough to deserve a 1/5 rating but not much more than deserving of the 2/5 Okay rating.
Even the Graphic Audio narration was not up to par for this the 5th book. That being the version/format I choose for the series as a whole.
Overall just disappointed in this book and the series as a whole so far. Finding it sad that I haven't been able to rate more than 1 of 5 books as 3/5 or higher.
The charge on the wanted poster is murder but the charge is false
A young woman is brutally murdered and an innocent youth charged with the crime and it is up to the Bounty Hunter to help prove the innocence. A fascinating tale of the old west with excellent characters, plenty of action and unusual twists and turns. Well worth the time.
I just can't get enough of Johnston's western nove!s. I almost read a book a day. I'm sometimes up until 2 or 3 am before I go to sleep. Superb. Best I've ever read.
A massive step backward in the series. A slow, ambling, repetitive story that fizzles out at the climax. The antagonists were grossly underdeveloped. I enjoyed the Judd Tyler character, but all in all, this was a dud for me.
Mr Johnston’s really tells exciting stories, and I have enjoyed all the books written about the Jensen boys. I will be reading theses books again and again.
Once again Luke Jensen does not disappoint. This story is probably one of my favorites in this series. You can read it as a stand alone or start with Luke Jensen: Bounty Hunter. From the first page to the last this book is non stop action and adventure. Luke as always has a prisoner to take in and a mystery to solve. I guess I enjoyed this book a little more than the others because the mystery component was solid throughout the book. I did not guess the evidence until the very end. However, I am not a great detective so some may fine out what Judd is hiding from the beginning. If you enjoy a good western with lots of action and adventure this book is for you.
I enjoyed this book. I have read many books that have been written by the father and son and none have disappointed me. Highly recommend reading of this book.
A much more interesting novel than I expected. A good story, told very well that built to a dramatic ending. This is a Johnstone novel I would recommend reading.
