On pense immédiatement à l'oeuvre de Kipling en lisant Pyrénée, qui en a la poésie et la sensibilité.
Son don unique pour le scénario a poussé Régis Loisel à écrire cette histoire, dessinée avec beaucoup de sensibilité par Philippe Sternis.

The first few pages show great promise with a lot of action, tension, good characterization, and deep dark foreboding. You wonder just what happened, how it ended up this way, and where it'll all go from here.
But from there on it just forgets about all that, and simply meanders on with no story to speak of and very little drama. Shame. At least the art is nice throughout.

Whimsically funny and adorably charming! What's not to love about a human being taught the ways of life by "lesser" animals? Choosing a female was crucial because it allows the character to be viewed with more fragility which adds to the importance of the rest of the cast and Loisel adds dimension within the dependency by giving her that "demanding Princess" persona.
Art: ****
Atmospherically, Sternis gave the ever-present nature background a bright lusciousness that envelops every page with a certain charm that would not have been achieved were he to use exacting shadowing. I don't know implements but all of the black seems to be chalk and I don't think it would have looked/felt as good/appropriate when imagining brush, pencil or ink instead. The way that the lines saturate less evenly allowed him to work obscure<->emphasis transitions that add depth at every scale which gives such a earthy tone which is so vital to the look of wilderness.
Public Reception: ?
What surprises me is that this is a lone tome. Who doesn't want to know what became of her? Putting her in humanity for a follow-up would be both funny and interesting for sure! That leads me to believe that this didn't sell well enough to warrant such motivations which may have something to do with...

As a militant naturist, I must remind some that this is in NO way "erotic" and should NOT be limited to adults simply because it has as much nudity as sexual endeavors. It should be marketed to children because aside from being more a "children's book" than anything else, today's youth need to understand that nudity itself is not taboo- it is only what is done with those without the clothes. The age of the character is MEANINGLESS because there is nothing sexual going on here!

Fantaisiste drôle et adorablement charmant ! Qu'est-ce qu'il n'y a pas à aimer chez un être humain qui a appris le mode de vie par des animaux "inférieurs" ? Le choix d'une femme était crucial car cela permet de voir le personnage avec plus de fragilité, ce qui ajoute à l'importance du reste de la distribution et Loisel ajoute une dimension à la dépendance en lui donnant ce personnage de "princesse exigeante".

Sur le plan atmosphérique, Sternis a donné à l'arrière-plan de la nature omniprésente une somptuosité lumineuse qui enveloppe chaque page d'un certain charme qui n'aurait pas été atteint s'il avait utilisé des ombres rigoureuses. Je ne connais pas les outils, mais tout le noir semble être de la craie et je ne pense pas que cela aurait été aussi bon/approprié en imaginant un pinceau, un crayon ou de l'encre à la place. La façon dont les lignes saturent moins uniformément lui a permis de travailler des transitions d'accentuation obscures qui ajoutent de la profondeur à chaque échelle, ce qui donne un ton si terreux qui est si vital pour l'aspect de la nature sauvage.

Ce qui m'étonne, c'est qu'il s'agit d'un tome isolé. Qui ne veut pas savoir ce qu'elle est devenue ? La mettre en humanité pour une suite serait à la fois drôle et intéressante à coup sûr ! Cela m'amène à croire que cela ne s'est pas assez bien vendu pour justifier de telles motivations qui pourraient avoir quelque chose à voir avec...

The art is very nice. But it’s not Loisel’s best. There’s not much to work with here — mountain landscape, a girl, a bear, eagle, fox, and rabbit. (The eagle in particular is well-designed) So it gets repetitive. Still a delightfully expressive ink line. And some wonderfully cartooned trees. One of the best artists in comics, no doubt.
The story is like call of the wild in reverse or Tarzan. It’s a coming of age story, but it doesnt really go anywhere and the girl never grows up or learns anything. At the end she departs for the human village but who knows what will happen. So, it seems like half a story. The pacing is very slow and not much happens.
