I remember watching the news with my grandmother as a child, Jorge Ramos was up there. Ramos and Aristegui are my favorite [Mexican] journalists; they have the courage, the work ethics and an incredible talent to put the world into perspective. This book not only shows his amazing career, it's also inspiring and uplifting. It shows you the world and how every corner of it is confronting its own issues.

brilliant b0ok by a brilliant journalist. I have been following Ramos for a long time, but I had never read his books before. I was drawn to it by the title and I read the Spanish version. I liked the idea of a rebel, that a journalist must be able to take sides. by taking sides Ramos means to always be by the less fortunate, the poor, the discrimated, when human rights are infringed. A journalist must tell the truth and ask questions. Sadly this is not most journalists do.
i have always been curious about the truth, and I agree with Ramos. One cannot be neutral, we must take sides, we must form an opinion. Journalists must ask questions, difficult questions and hold leaders accountable. if they dont, who will? In fact at some point Ramos says “Lo mejor en el periodismo —y en la vida— ocurre cuando tomamos partido: cuando cuestionamos a los que tienen el poder,”

The book is also a series of interviews, many to Latin American leaders, or former leaders, and those chapters help the reader to absorbe recent history and the intricacies of national and international politics. I have two favourite chapters, the chapter about Sonia Sotomayor, and the other the chapter about Ingrid Betancourt. i wish they had been longer, I would have loved to know more about them.

I found myself underlining passages, and reading them again and again. For example where he says
“Los rebeldes toman partido. Deciden y actúan.”

This motherfucker dares make a "Jorge Ramos Greatest Hits" book during a time when one of the most important presidential elections are taking place? Well it happened. This truly is a book that mostly chronicles some of the most "rebellious" moves he's made as a reporter while interviewing key political figures. He also commemorates several other so called rebels for their own work in an anti establishment move, which I won't get into because it was needless fluff; fillers at best. He does indeed have a huge reach with the vast Spanish speaking audience in this country and because of that he should have written a rebuttal to Ann Coulter's book. Not that I didn't like Ann's book, but shit this guy has an obligation to keep the Spanish speaking audience in the loop of what's going on during this critical time of high racial tensions. He should have just spread his leg and started licking his own ass.

Como de costumbre, cuando estoy demasiado emocionada con el lanzamiento de un libro, hago el esfuerzo de conocer al autor. Anticipándome a la publicación de este libro, me reuní con Jorge Ramos en Nueva York en Barnes & Noble . Es una leyenda dentro de la comunidad latina. Muchos de nosotros crecimos leyendo su periodismo y escuchándolo como presentador de las noticias diarias.Este libro nos permite conocer a muchas personas de impacto a nivel mundial desde el punto de vista periodístico aunque por momentos puede caer en ser literatura tediosa.

Es un libro que viene de menos a más; y conforme avancé mi entusiasmo fue más evidente.
Me cuesta trabajo entender la intención de Ramos en este libro; pero sea la que sea me alegra haberlo leido.
Ramos elige a algunas de las personas que ha entrevistado a lo largo de su trayectoria periodística, nos narra un breve contexto de la entrevista y finalmente nos habla de las enseñanzas de esta persona. Los entrevistados no fueron elegidos al azar, Ramos seleccionó a "Rebeldes", dando pie a una definición sencilla y amplia -Personas que rompen las reglas.
Una de las cosas que más me emocionó de "Sin Miedo" es la variedad importante de rebeldes, pasamos por políticos, empresarios, periodistas, inmigrantes y hasta un cineasta. Sin duda, celebro la variedad de rebeldes, con los que podemos o no coincidir en valores.
Aplaudo las enseñanzas de cada uno de ellos. Por ultimo, me alegra que Ramos, nos deja ver el crecimiento que ha tenido a traves de los años como entrevistador, nos deja ver su preparación y sus pensamientos previos, durante y a posterior de cada entrevista. Y con esto regreso al "viene de menos a más".

Por el otro lado, hay muchas áreas de oportunidad y decepciones con "Sin Miedo".
La primera y que salta a la vista, es la cantidad de errores (no menores) de edición que existen en el libro, faltas de ortografías, repetición de parráfos entre otros.
El segundo y que de cierta manera me decepcionó bastante fue lo limitado de los estractos de las entrevistas. A lo largo del libro, Ramos hace referencia a Oriana Fallaci (incluso la agrega como rebelde) y de su libro "Entrevista con la historia" (evidentemente, "Sin miedo" se inspiró en este libro) y no nos deja ver más de las entrevistas, los estractos son muy limitados (demasiado) y son tendenciosos. Jorge, nos hubieras dejado (al igual que Fallaci) leer y vivir la entrevista contigo para también hacer un juicio del personaje. Al final, nos recomiendan visitar la pagina de Jorge Ramos para ver las entrevistas completas (mi opinión no es positiva).

In Sin Miedo: Lecciones de Rebeldes , Jorge Ramos brings us stories of people that he has interviewed over the years that he considers to be rebels with lessons to offer to all of us.

The title can be translated as Fearless: Lessons from Rebels . Some really are literal rebels, some are rebels that became dictators (he has 4 of these), and some are people that really aren't rebels, but are very successful in areas where people like them are not normally successful.

If you don't know who Jorge Ramos is, you probably don't watch Univision TV very much. Univision is a Spanish language channel based in Miami and Ramos is their most recognizable news anchor.

The interviewees range all over the place, including Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Fidel Castro, Barbara Walters, George W. Bush, Daniel Ortega, former Presidents of Mexico, two Venezuelan dictators, a Mexican revolutionary leader, Spike Lee, and Richard Branson.

Some of the interviews are pretty compelling with lots of details. Some are skimpy, but fleshed out with some background research (you couldn't really corner Fidel Castro and pressure him to give you a long interview so you make do with the time you were given.)

The result was a mixed bag. I was touched by the patriotism of Venezuelan refugees that kept on fighting the Chavez/Maduro dictatorships in the face of overwhelming obstacles, but the interview with Bill Gates was standard boiler plate profile of his admirable work to fight disease in the Third World.

I skipped the dual interviews with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a Palestine Authority leader, figuring that anything said in that interview was superseded by the October 7 Attack and the Gaza War that followed.

The edition I read was in Spanish. It's been a few years since I read a book in Spanish. The last one was also a Jorge Ramos book. I enjoy his clear, concise style. I guess that makes Ramos my favorite Spanish language author! The English translation of this book is called Take a Stand: Lessons from Rebels .

Honestamente, fue un libro que leí mientras me preparaba para un concurso de oratoria. ¿Puedo decir que me puso a pensar las problemáticas que plantea y en como puedo ser más rebelde por un mejor futuro? Definitivamente. No conocía al Sr. Ramos pero los adultos en mi vida, sí, y eso me motivaba a continuar leyendo. Descubrí que su personalidad (o estilo de escritura) es bastante cautivante, y puedo decir que disfruté leyendo el libro.

El único problema es que es un libro de 2016, y 9 años después puedo decir que sus peores predicciones se hicieron realidad. Pero, hasta cierto punto, es divertido leer el optimismo que existía en esa época y que, a pesar de todo, lo podemos seguir teniendo.

Realmente me fascino leer “SIN MIEDO” por las increíbles entrevistas que contiene dividas entre los rebeldes (como El subcomandante Marcos, Leopoldo López, Sonia Stotomayor Barbara Walters, el equipo de los Dreamers, entre otros) y los poderosos (Carlos Salinas de Gortari, Barack Obama, Enrique Peña Nieto, Bill Gates, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez, etc.).
Este libro cambio mi perspectiva sobre el periodismo objetivo.
Que maravilloso es poder conocer a todos esos rebeldes que luchan por nuestros derechos, por nuestra justicia y que defienden sus ideales a muerte. Todos deberíamos ser REBELDES.

Jorge Ramos te muestra entrevistas que ha hecho durante 30 años, lecciones de rebeldes, que en algunos casos no los considero tan merecedores de ese término, pero te ayudan a comprender, a forjar tu camino como rebelde, porque como dice Elie Wiesel "la neutralidad ayuda al opresor, nunca a la víctima".

There are some wild stories in this book! I was thinking it would be more of a book of life lessons, but it really is more of a memoir. It takes a look at what can be gleaned from interviews with rebels - all kinds of rebels, although mostly political rebels. Jorge Ramos has interviewed so many world leaders, and this book is an interesting look at what it means to ask the tough questions.

Cuando estaba en la escuela estudiando mi primera carrera (de comunicaciones), nos enseñaron que el periodista es objetivo. Discutimos el papel del líder de opinión: ¿debe existir?, ¿quién es un líder de opinión?, ¿qué responsabilidades tiene?
Durante muchos años desde entonces y cada vez que escucho, veo o leo una nota periodística, recuerdo aquellas clases y mi postura, especialmente en los últimos meses cuando veo que alguien que tiene una voz escuchada por millones no dice nada... nada, solo las noticias, algunas preguntas sin presionar demasiado y luego a lo que sigue. Es especialmente frustrante cuando nuestro entorno se llena de injusticias e impunidad a la cara de todos.
Hace mucho tiempo decidí que el reporteo no era para mi, eso lo tuve muy claro, no tengo madera de reportera. Pero sí reconocí en mi la capacidad de escribir usando la piel de un periodista, aunque antes de poder explotar ese camino decidí cambiar mi vida hacia otra dirección. Con esa experiencia bajo el brazo, leer este libro fue toda una experiencia.
Este libro refleja esa educación con la que eramos formados y el papel al que nos sentimos orillados, los periodistas (que no soy) pero también los ciudadanos a tomar. El cuestionarnos y cuestionar, el buscar verdades que nos parezcan razonables, profundas e inteligentes. Es algo que nos tenemos que plantear porque este libro no sólo refleja el cómo y cuándo de una entrevista, o la posición del entrevistador, también nos dice que la historia se repite y más nos vale tener buena memoria, aprender y estar preparados para la siguiente ola.

Having read his book, I have a little better understanding of Gorge Ramos and a good deal more respect for him. He calls himself a journalist, but he has to waterboard the definition of journalist to get there. Having wrung out the meaning that fits his vision of himself, he presents his theme in the guise of a journalistic endeavor. He is a five-star advocate of his point of view, and he carries that with him into all his professional assignments. Trying to evaluate this book as journalistic work just leads into spinning dead ends. However, putting aside Ramos’ argument that he is journalist and looking at the book from the point of view of a progressive advocate, gives a different perspective.

I was surprised at how many powerful world leaders he has confronted and interviewed. From his descriptions of his work and comparing them to various check points, he is always consistent in calling out things that he views as immoral and hypocritical no matter who he is confronting. He advocates against the powerful for those who are without power. I would advocate for the same things in 80% of the causes he espouses.

Woven in with the cases he takes on in this book is a lot of enlightenment about history and current events around the world, but primarily in Mexico, Central and South America. As a journalistic work, I would rate this book pretty low, but as a book of advocacy, I give it 4 stars. I don’t agree with much of it, but I admire how he “Takes a Stand” and sticks to it in the face of very powerful people.

Lo que más me fascina de este libro son las entrevistas, las cuales forman la mayoría del texto. Ramos ha entrevistado a muchas figuras interesantes de diferentes países, y las entrevistas de su larga carrera como periodista le ofrecen al lector un mejor entendimiento de la política, especialmente las complejidades de la política en Latinoamérica. Y me gusta que Ramos no tema criticar a cualquier político.

Sin embargo, el capítulo introductorio no me gustó. Estoy de acuerdo que hay que tomar partido, que uno no puede quedarse neutral cuando hay una injusticia. Pero Ramos también nos dice que la ideología ya no importa, que lo que ahora importa es la rebeldía, y define esa palabra de una manera tan difusa que se puede aplicar a personas tan distintas como Barack Obama y el Subcomandante Marcos. Es más, al decirnos que la ideología no importa, Ramos se queda neutral (justo como él dice que uno no debe) e indirectamente apoya a las estructuras de poder existentes. Desafortunadamente el libro entero está lleno de errores tipográficos.

Lee este libro para aprender más sobre la política y sobre los entrevistados, no necesariamente para aprender más sobre la filosofía de Ramos.

Jorge Ramos is an amazing journalist. Every chapter gives us an insight of the great work he does in each interview. Just like he mentions, he is a rebel who would not accept a NO for an answer. And that is one of the qualities that makes him unique.

He is one of the few journalist that goes after the truth. He knows that there will always be obstacles that can stop him, but he never gives up. In this book, he tells us the different types of Rebels that exist in the world: the rebels that go against the government, the rebels that do no care what the community wants, the rebels that fight for specific communities who are afraid to speak up. Each chapter tells us that life is not easy, we need to speak up. We need to stand for what is right. We should not be afraid to change our systems. Change is always going to be a good thing.

Thank You Jorge Ramos for being the Latino Rebel who gives us courage to speak up!

Hay muchas cosas que puedes hacer con tu tiempo y si me preguntan.. Siempre he preferido acurrucarme en la ficción e ignorar lo que me molesta. Con los acontecimientos recientes, el incremento de mi miedo, nostalgia y rabia decidí dejar de tratar de ignorar los asuntos que me dan dolor de cabeza y enfrentarlos, entenderlos y cultivar mi mente con experiencias y enseñanzas de luchadores. Hay muchas cosas que me gustaría compartir de este libro que (NO, no es la historia de Jorge como periodista, si no las historias de sus entrevistas que cultivaron y cautivaron su mente) somos fragmentos de historias (Mandela, Walters, Gates, Jobs, Betancourt, Chavez, Hitler, Correa) malo o bueno te enseña a enfrentar y hay que enfrentar. Esto es todo lo que tengo que decir al respecto por aquí (A menos que seas mi padre a quien lo voy a bombardear de notas de voz al respecto) y (si, voy a reseñarlo en el canal)

Un gran libro de anécdotas que enriquece las entrevistas que ya puedes encontrar en vídeo entre Jorge Ramos y grandes personajes de América Latina y el mundo.

Especialmente atractivo para México, añade nuevos niveles de entendimiento a figuras míticas para la nación como el villano favorito, Carlos Salinas de Gortari, así como el ahora presidente Enrique Peña Nieto y un ya casi olvidado héroe revolucionario, el Subcomandante Marcos.

Sin embargo, no deja de ser interesante cuando transita a las entrevistas de otros personajes más alejados a nuestra realidad inmediata. La entrevista con Desmond Tutu, con los disidentes cubanos y venezolanos, así como las conversaciones con la gran entrevistadora Barbara Walters.

Un gran libro para quienes admiran (o desprecian) a los rebeldes y los poderosos.

Sometimes I genuinely liked parts of this book. I enjoyed his retelling of meeting with global leaders at different times in our recent history.

I am not a particular fan of how he uses the the idea of "taking a stand" or the lessons section afterwards. The anecdotes suffice. The sections afterward almost tell the reader how to think.

Este libro sin duda está en mi top 3 de libros favoritos, todo lo que envuelve al periodista Jorge Ramos, la forma en que lo redacta es como estar viendo uno de sus mejores videos, es como escucharlo dentro de tu cabeza con cada página que lees, en lo personal si alguien me pidiera prestado este libro jamás lo haría, es una de esas piezas que uno siempre quiere guardar. En cuanto a los temas que aborda nos encontramos con un resumen de entrevistas que le ha realizado a distintos hombres importantes del mundo de la política internacional. Fabuloso, si aún no lo lees no me queda más que recomendártelo.
