Rock Falls #4

Keeping King

Rate this book
This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN: B00U7LSWTS

Peyton Callaghan is a fighter, a survivor, a warrior. When it was kill or be killed, she didn’t hesitate. Now, she’s the only one left standing, haunted by the ghost of a dead man and plagued with the guilt of having taken another person’s life. The upheaval of her life to start over in Rock Falls has been rocky at best, her worst nightmares and wildest desires colliding with each other. Terror tortures her nightly, breeding fear inside her dreams, and in every waking moment, she fights against the lust that threatens to drown her.

Jayden King harbors secrets beneath his outward playboy demeanor. The women who warm his bed lay claim to nothing—you can’t lay claim to someone who doesn’t have a heart. His wit and charm are exquisite means of deflection and distraction from the turmoil roaring inside him. He’s hidden in plain sight, a mask of humor keeping the sadness at bay. The only real reflections of his soul are in the artwork he creates, pieces of him muraled on the skin of others. If tattoo artists could have a calling card, the etch of pain and suffering in each design would be his. Because when the lights go out and the women he’s satisfied have gone home, he’s alone with every fear he refuses to face.

After suffering from a brutal attack at the hands of her roommate’s stalker, Peyton is forced to live with the object of her affection. Without intention, she breathes love into his starved heart, and although the mere thought of that terrifies him, Jayden would burn the city down to keep her safe, causalities be damned.

Some people you have. Some people you hold.

She can have him. She can hold him. But can she keep King? Or is it impossible for Callaghan to keep something that was never really hers to begin with?

Can be read as a standalone or as part of the Rock Falls series.

I was born and raised in Ladner, a small farm town just outside Vancouver, Canada.

I never expected to be an author. Writing was something that snuck up on me and rooted itself into my life. It was beautiful to discover that love, and I’m truly grateful to say I’ve found my passion.

If I could leave y’all with one thing, it’s that life’s far too short to not live it out loud. Drown in your passions, hold on tight to the things that inspire you, and chase your dreams relentlessly. I can promise you without a doubt that you won’t regret it. I know I don’t.

Mad love,

It's hard to harbor hate for sins of the past when it is wounds and scars that sealed our hearts together.

He is mine.

I am his.

This one started out strong but quickly began to lose its appeal and momentum as the book went on.

Peyton started out as this determined and strong-willed leading lady and over the course of the book she morphed into a shadow of herself. She turned into a mess of giggles, hearts-in-the-eyes sighs and a damsel in distress.

And although I like me a good ol' possessive Alpha...Jayden was a little too over the top for me. There was lots of fists clenching, roaring, pounding walls, slamming doors and just too many explosions of...

The plot ideas were engaging and entertaining, but the execution could have used more development. Also, the MC's felt young, especially Jayden. He was supposed to be 30 years old, yet he spoke and acted like someone in their early twenties. By 30 years old, my leading man should feel like a MAN not a boy.

Unfortunately, by the end, this book turned into an over the top cheesy cliche.

"In time, I think you'll find that my wounds, now opened wide, are exactly your size. In turn, your scars were built only to fade upon kisses from my lips. Separate, perhaps, we are broken, but together, we are remarkably whole."

2.5-3ish ⭐’s
This is a short fluffy read that came up as a “hero hung up on ex” GR recommendation. The writing isn’t bad, but it’s nothing unique and doesn’t generate any feels. I didn’t read the other books but never felt super lost, and it’s pretty easy to catch up. The book is free to read if you have Scribd and the audiobook is free to listen with audible escapes.

The book opens with Peyton Callaghan escaping to Rock Falls after the event teased in the blurb, then we FFW a couple years later with her getting a tattoo. I’m assuming it was disclosed in the prior books that Peyton has silently mooned over Jayden King for years while he’s worked his way through bimbos. Jayden has some issues from a past relationship , but he’s also smitten and has tried to bury his feelings for P in OW… cuz he’s broken and she deserves better.

Bottom Line- This is a fluff read. The relationship moves quickly, and the reasons each had for not pursuing a relationship sort of disappears without being explored. IMO, the conflict was very obvious, but my biggest grump was Peyton losing her moxie. She starts out really independent and kickass, but quickly switches to an easy-going damsel in a snap. It’s probably closer to a 2-star read, but it was free, and Lucy Rivers/Aiden Snow made the audiobook enjoyable.

Safety- Other than one scene in the beginning where he walks in with a chick and calls her baby, there’s no OW drama or OW on-page. (No exes are lurking about, etc.)

I can't tell you how glad I was when I picked Keeping King up!! I've been getting slammed with cliffhangers, angst, and up-in-the-air HEAs so much lately that it was a relief to read one of my favorite contemporary series! I always know I'm in for a good time when I'm reading an Anne Jolin book and she didn't disappoint me with this one. I absolutely loved, Loved, LOVED it!!

If you've read any of the books in Rock Falls series, you know that Jayden is the laid back, funny guy who always has a joke ready and a smile on his face. I don't know why I didn't expect it, but Jayden actually surprised me because there's so much more to him than the laid back façade he puts on. I didn't mind though, because OMG, that man is HOT, HOT, HOT!! He's an a**hole, he's gruff and possessive and so deliciously dominant! Jayden's also deep and thoughtful and trust me, you'll be swooning for him. I know I did, I positively loved him!!

I really loved Peyton too! It was so great to see more than just her shy side and let me tell you, this girl can kick some major butt!! I loved finding out more about her even though it squeezed my heart to learn. Peyton is a strong, beautiful, amazing woman and she's everything a heroine should be!

Keeping King is a fast read, but it's full of twists and turns, danger, passion, and beauty. It's not as light as the first two books and it will tug in your heartstrings sometimes, but it will definitely still make you laugh and smile. It's a wonderfully amazing book and I wholeheartedly loved it!!

Keeping King is a standalone, it's told from Jayden and Peyton's POV, and they get their HEA! As I was reading this book, it was so bittersweet because I didn't want this series to end and I was totally prepared to beg Ms. Jolin to keep writing about these characters, but with an ending like the one she gave us--well, it can't be over and I couldn't be more happy or excited about that!! ~ Paige, 5 stars

~~~
I really like this series. So far, I found that it's smart, has an abundance of awesome movie references, and is jam-packed with hot, swoonworthy, Alpha men and their sassy women. And while it's certainly not sunshine and roses all the time, it's fun, sexy and sweet. And that trend continues with Keeping King.
When Peyton Callaghan is viciously attacked by the stalker of her roommate, she's given no choice....she's moving in with the man she's lusted after for two years - ever since she first arrived in Rock Falls and laid eyes on him. Jayden.
Jayden King is determined to keep Peyton safe. His heart is still, broken by his past, and yet, Pey has a way of making it throb once again. He doesn't have much to offer her, this girl with her own scars and secrets, but he's determined to try. He's wanted Pey for years, and now she's under his roof, the sizzling desire becomes an inferno.
She wants to keep him, but first she has to catch him. He wants to keep her, but first he has to learn her. Can they heal each other and face the future together?
I gotta say, I burned though this book. Such an easy-to-read book - and I mean that in a good way. It just kind of sucks you in, until it's nearly impossible to stop flicking to the next page, reading the next chapter, gleaning just a little more information out of it before bedtime/responsibilities/life seeps back in. However, Keeping King is by no mean an easy book. While there are most definitely moments that'll make you smile, laugh, swoon, lip bite and so on, there's an darker undercurrent here. These characters have been to their own personal versions of hell, and are trying to pick up the pieces. After all, it wouldn't be Rock Falls without a bit of angsty drama to keep you on the edge of your seat.
I liked the little bits of Jayden and Peyton we saw in the earlier books in this series, but I didn't truly have a handle on them until I read this book. They're great together, a good balance, a great fit. They weren't really what I expected - Jay with his playful exterior, Pey with her quiet demeanor - and I couldn't help but feel for them, for all they've faced. Somehow though, I found myself almost more intrigued by two secondary characters - Jackson and Colt. I loved seeing a brighter side to Jackson, who has been a part of the series since the first book, but had, in my opinion, been dealt a bad hand. I see growth and hope here. I can't wait Saving Steele. And Colt...well, I'm definitely going to need to know more about him, especially if it means another Rock Falls book.
Side note: that epilogue. *mouth drops open*
Another side note: that cover *drools*
One final side note: I love the reference to "keeping" that's sprinkled throughout this book. When I ask my daughter, "what are we going to do with that brother of yours?", she always says, "I don't know...Keep him?" And as such, it's just an expression that makes me happy. *goofy smile*
Keeping King is the fourth book in the Rock Falls series and can be read standalone. ~ Beth, 4 stars
This series continues to entertain! Peyton and Jayden are both equally likeable characters. Peyton is surrounded by mystery and although she is friendly with most of the characters from the previous books, she keeps herself safely removed from becoming too involved in their lives.
Jayden is truly the love 'em and leave 'em guy. He owns his own tattoo shop and has a pretty sweet life. He may have a different girl in bed at any given moment, but he keeps his eye on Peyton. But so far she hasn't shown him any interest.
She's interested alright, but is insecure and doesn't think she could ever hold his interest beyond one night. But when she is put in danger, he steps in and goes all Alpha on her.
Forced to move in with him, the two dance around their sexual chemistry but of course they don't resist for long! There are some sinister dangers lurking in this story and they provide a nice twist to the plot.
I loved this one-and can't wait for Jackson to finally get his shot at happiness.
This is my favorite out of the series I loved seeing an alpha like Jayden whipped, "yeah, sugar." I smile down at her. "Anything." If she wants to watch The Effing Notebook, I'd do it for her." His thoughts were primal, possessive and murderous at times, "boss," Foster greets, not looking up from his client right away. Eff, I forgot her was working. IF she swoons over his a**, I'm firing him." He really hates thinking his girl with anyone else, "my eyes finally drop to the brown, s***-kicker cowboy boots she has on, and I want to bang my head against the effing wall. Any red-blooded male is going to picture her riding them with those boots when he sees her." Peyton her first times seeing her man's c*** sure is memorable, "you did not just laugh at seeing my c*** for the first time," I groan, closing my eyes in dread." I love this series, it's always filled with alpha men and the women who tame them.
Yes, yes and YES! I said it before and I'll say it again, Anne Jolin's writing keeps getting better and better. The fourth installment of the Rock Falls series in no exception. This book blew me away! I didn't think it would be possible for anyone to top Brax's character from the last book but I was mistaken.
Keeping King follows the story of Peyton and Jayden. You don't have to have read the previous books in the series as this is a stand alone. However, reading the other titles helps you know who is who. Peyton is Beth's roommate and I hadn't learned much about her in the previous books but I absolutely adored her character. She is a force to be reckoned with. I loved her resiliency and toughness. She had been through hell and back and was determined to start over. This book travels back in time a bit and I liked getting to witness some of the previous events through a different set of eyes. When circumstances lead Peyton to need some help she gets more than she bargains for with her new roommate, Jayden. Peyton has had a crush on him for a long time but didn't want to drag him into her mess.
Jayden has his own secrets that he is keeping and uses humor and women to keep his demons at bay. However, he can't help the fierce desire he feels to protect Peyton. The back and forth between those two was almost enough to drive me nuts. They were both so wounded and felt unworthy of happiness. It takes a good portion of the book for them to get together but when they do- WOW! Fireworks. They were both so beautifully flawed. My heart broke for them both as they slowly revealed the tragedies of their past. I loved that they found solace in one another. However, when Peyton is put in danger once again, it is Jayden who comes to the rescue. Oh wow- those moments were intense and I had to remind myself to breathe.
Of course, in true Anne Jolin fashion, the rest of the crew was along for the ride. Everyone from Hannah to Jamie made an appearance. I loved everyone's reaction to Brax, especially the guys. The gang brought the humor in this book. They provided a good balance to some of the heavier topics covered between Peyton and Jayden. There was even the emergence of a new character, Colt. I got a little taste for what his story was and I definitely want more of it. He intrigued me and I hope to see him again in the future.
I have read all the other books in this series and I have to say this was my absolute favorite. Once I started I could not stop reading because I was so sucked into the story. I liked all the other characters but I could not wait for Jayden’s story. I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars!!
When the book starts, was get somewhat of a background of Peyton. It’s not until later we get the full story of what happened to her. I loved her character. She is very strong person and she is a fighter and doesn’t give up. I also love the way she gives it right back to Jayden. Even though Peyton has been dealt a horrible hand in life, she doesn’t give up and she deserved her second chance.
I fell in love with Jayden back in book 1. For some reason his character just stuck out to me. Of course I love tattooed bad boys who own their own tattoo shop but Jayden also has another side he hides from everyone. Jay has also been dealt a horrible hand in life and he blames himself. When he was telling Peyton the story of what happened I was literally in tears. My heart broke for him and it made me pull for him and Peyton even more.
I love the nickname he has for Peyton… “Sugar.” These two went through so much without each other and also so much with each other. I was pulling for a HEA so bad. I am not one for spoilers so I highly recommend this book. It brought out every emotion I had while reading and I couldn’t get enough. Then the ending.. OH MY!!! Let’s just say I am crossing my fingers for more books and I look forward to reading more from Anne.
This book is absolutely amazing!!! Best book in the series. I love Jayden and Peyton. They are two beautifully broken people who fit together to make a complete puzzle.
Peyton is hiding a big secret from all her friends. She is afraid to tell them because she doesn't want them to not like her anymore. She was a social outcast before moving to Rock Falls. She wasn't expecting to become friends with Jayden, Beth, Braxton, Lennon, Jami, Jackson, Hannah and Greyson, but since they've all been in her life she is happy. She has secretly had a crush on Jayden for the two years she's been with them. She doesn't know how to go about telling him. Can she finally make Jayden see her as a potential lover?
Jayden has closed off his heart. He wants nothing to do with relationships. He is determined to stay away from Peyton. He wants her and every time she is around he ends up with some nameless woman so he won't be tempted by Peyton. But once tragedy hits his friends again he is determined to protect Peyton at all costs. Can he open up his heart again? Or will he let Peyton walk out of his life?
This book was amazing and it followed a little of the time from from Beth and Braxton's book. I cannot wait to read Jackson's book. He really surprised me in this book and I cannot wait to hear his story. Anne Jolin gets better and better with each book she writes. I cannot wait for all the other books she has in store for us!!!
Anne Jolin has master the art of making you want to read her book even when you are not in the mood for reading. Her books will take you out of your slumber and awaken you from your sleep. I am falling more in love with this series with every book. They are no longer just characters they feel like old friends.
Keeping King is book 4 in the Rock Falls series. And here we see Peyton and Jayden fall more in love with each other. We learn what Peyton dark secret is and the reason for those nightmares she is having. Jayden we see a side of him we never seen before, and that behind that fun character of him he is actually concealing hurt and guild.
The relationship doesn't just happen and it take them a few tries before they finally have the guts not only to admit to themselves but also to each other that they have feeling for one another. But and yes there is a but, their love is tested. Tested in ways that will have you screaming at the book and praying oh God let this not be the end.
There is a happy ending, and it will have you going aww and yes the epilogue will have saying WTF...... Now Miss Jolin should just hurry up her little cute bud and finish book five. I need to know what is going to happen next.
Keeping King is a sweet love story and will have you routing for Peyton and leave you wanting to kick Jayden on his ass. If you looking for a fun read pick up Keeping King and fall in love with Rock Falls.
I give Keeping King 5 Stars
Same formula: controlling, creepy, obsessive hero check, supposedly strong but really an idiotic pushover heroine check. All of these characters are ridiculous and unrealistic. They’re laughable and can’t be taken seriously. Jayden’s logic and actions made absolutely no sense and Peyton’s immediate dependency on him contradicted her character at the beginning of the book. I didn’t like anything about this. The majority of the book was sex or getting each other off once again. None of the characters were likable and the plot was fine but it would have been better if I had felt some positive thoughts about this group but they were all a bunch of idiots who I can’t imagine could ever be real people.
This writer feels amateur and like she’s just starting out. At this time, she is just not for me. I wish her the best and hope she improves over time because all of these characters are terrible, not likable in any way, the way they speak at times feels more masculine than feminine (butt head reminds me of two idiots on a couch with nothing better to do except watch mtv all day or Biff a low iq, high school bully), the behavior from the male characters is not something every single one of the heroines would embrace and accept, these all add up and make a potentially good book, suffer in the end. Glad to be done with this series and part ways with this writer.
“And you can quote me on this: When I find my dream, I’m keeping it.”
The Rock Falls Series by Anne Jolin is a recent find of mine. After reading the first book one night (it had been sitting on my kindle for a while) I devoured the other two in the series within days. So when I saw this new one was coming out I jumped at the chance for an early copy. I have to say with each book Anne puts out both the writing and stories get better and better. Keeping King was an extraordinary story that I am already planning to re-read!
“She gives him her smiles. The smiles I crave. The ones she keeps from me. The ones she so freely gives Detective Brick Shithouse.”
Peyton, Oh Peyton! We have known for quite awhile that something is going on with Peyton. For several books we have been told that she has awful nightmares that have her waking up screaming but we have no clue what it is that is haunting this poor girl. While close to the girls in the other books, Peyton is more of a loner and keeps quietly to herself. She has had a crush on Jayden for awhile but would never act on it. Jayden has always noticed Payton but demons from his past make him determined to stay away. He never wants to be in a ‘relationship’ again and Peyton is definitely the ‘relationship’ kind of a girl. So instead of ever giving into the pull he feels towards her he ignores her and carries on with his man-whore ways.
“Why does it seem like he’s always walking away from me?”
Something in Jayden changes when he walks into his tattoo parlor, The King’s Mistress, one night to see a artist touching her. His inner alpha leaps out and he cannot have that. But still, while not allowing another to touch her, he does not make any move for her and lets her go home . . . alone. This is where we see overlap from the previous book, Breaking Bennett. Peyton gets hurt and Jayden blames himself. Soon he is forcing her to live with him and Jamison “to keep her safe” and everything gets complicated.
“I am deeply ‘in like’ with my roommate and I haven’t a fucking clue what to do about it.”
Both Peyton and Jayden and wonderfully complex with past that haunt them everyday of their lives. The decisions from their past are dictating their future and unless these two find some way to make peace with this they can not move forward. I loved both of these characters so incredibly much. They ached for each other and yet did not just give in. Jayden was possessive and protective and yet while in denial he could be mean and a bit cruel to Peyton. The miscommunication these two have makes for a difficult start.
“You did not just laugh at seeing my cock for the first time,”
I am just going to say it, Jayden King a fucking sexy alpha of a man. There I said it and I can’t take it back. Muscular and tattooed with a chip on his shoulder he is just what I look for in a book boyfriend. Just like all the other books in this series Keeping King is unquestionably sexy and suspenseful. he book is not long and I read it in one sitting desperate to find out what will happen. Told from dual point of view we get insight into the minds of both characters and an understanding of why each makes some of the decisions that affect the entire plot.
“I want to feel you in the morning, Jayden. Make me sore.”
Anne Jolin is quickly becoming one of those authors I recommend to anyone who will listen. If you love a sexy story with an alpha male that has a plot that will keep you on your toes this is for you. While Keeping King can very easily be read as a standalone trust me you won’t want to cheat yourself out of the chance to read the other remarkable stories in this series!
Another Rock Falls gem! As supporting characters in the first three Rock Falls books, Payton and Jayden were easy to fall in love with. So, when it came time for their story, I was chomping at the bit! I definitely wasn’t disappointed!
Peyton is deceptively sweet, soft, and innocent. And, while she definitely possesses those traits, she hides the incredible strength within. She has the kind of witty and loving personality that draws you in and makes you want to be friends with her. But, the secrets of her past weigh on her and it tends to keep her from being truly open with almost everybody. On top of that, she never truly lets her guard down, always prepared with her fight or flight response.
Jayden is rough and tough on the outside, covered in ink and owning a tattoo parlour. But, underneath the exterior, and occasionally in plain view, he is a teddy bear. He’s fiercely protective of those he cares about, passionate, loving, and a pillar of strength for the weak to lean on. In Peyton’s case, he just might go a tad overboard. Jayden can’t keep from wanting her and the need to shelter her, unfortunately, at times, it translates into smothering her. He is convinced that he isn’t the right man for her, but he doesn’t know how to combat the jealousy of seeing her with another man.
Ever since Peyton met Jayden, she’s had a crush on him and despite his constant string of meaningless women, she hasn’t been able to squelch it. Circumstances put her in the wrong place at the wrong time and Peyton’s life is in danger. Jayden’s over protective nature kicks in and he brings her to live with him, which can only lead to spontaneous combustion!
Their love story has a rocky start because Jayden is hot and cold, hurting Peyton’s feelings from time to time. However, as things escalate between them, and danger stalks Peyton, they grow closer and little by little fight the obstacles standing in their way.
This book was everything I could hope for with Jayden and Peyton. Throughout the rest of the series, their story was so anticipated that it might have fallen short of expectation. Instead, it was everything that these two needed to make me happy and so satisfied with their ending. They both have such fun personalities, that you can’t help but chuckle sometimes, at other times you’ll be smiling at the sweetness, and hen of course there are the pages where you’ll be reaching for an icy glass of water to cool you off!
Keeping King is a fabulous addition to the Rock Falls collection. If you haven’t read the previous books, this can be read as a standalone. However, I highly, highly recommend that you read them all. Each story will pull you in and make you want to move right on to the next. The heroines are sassy, sexy, and fun. The heroes are hot alphas with a softer side that will have you sighing.
You can’t go wrong with these books and Keeping King is a fabulous read! Anne Jolin is a 1-click author for me and her books go right onto my re-read list!
This story was so not what I was expecting and it blew my freaking mind... Anne is the master of her craft, so incredibly gifted.. I am struggling to put into words just how great this story is.
Jayden King really surprised me and I love him so much more after getting inside his head.
Getting to know the real Jayden was an experience in it's self. We meet Jayden back in book 1 and he charms us through the whole series, his humor and his heavenly good-looks is something I looked forward to reading again but have you ever heard the expression " Never judge a book by its cover " well, that expression was made for Jayden.. Every day he wakes up putting on a show for everyone - the sexy smile, the charm, the humor - but what they don't see is whats underneath and the inner struggle he has to deal with on a daily basis. His story is heartbreaking and beautiful and he has been living an empty life for many years believing this is the life he is suppose to lead. Until her. She comes into his life and turns it upside down, making him question everything.
"She can have him. She can hold him. But can she keep King? Or is it impossible for Callaghan to keep something that was never really hers to begin with?"
Peyton Callaghan - a survivor ! She is a truly inspiring character. She is strong, beautiful, independent, but is also very mysterious, getting her story was a journey I really enjoyed. Peyton left behind her home, but carried a tormenting secret with her, a secret that has her living in fear that if this secret got out she would lose the life she has built for herself in Rock Falls.She fought hard to move on, she fought hard for the life she has, to leave behind the ugliness of her past yet it still eats at her, controls her life, that is until she meets Jayden King, at first she kept her distance, as does he but then when Peyton is attacked, Jayden's protectiveness takes over and she moves in with him while she recovers, the attraction between them becomes more difficult, the harder they fight it, the stronger it gets.
This couple were destined to save each other from themselves and ill be damned if it wasn't a beautiful thing to experience. They have you laughing one minute, crying the next and in your next breathe you are biting at your finger nails in suspense. It has everything a good books needs...
"Can I keep you?"
Please do not only me but yourself a favor, read this book... You will be missing out on something extraordinary if you dont <3
description
This is was my first book by Anne Jolin and it will not be my last, as a matter of fact I need to go back and read the first three books in the series so I feel like I am all caught up on everyone's life. This book can be read as a standalone, but I still felt like I was missing out by not reading the other books in the series.
The book for me could be described by a kiss:
"Timeless.
Vulnerable.
Captivating.
Magical.
Candid."
This installment was about Peyton Callaghan who is hiding from her past and Jayden King who is convinced he already had his one chance at love. Peyton is shy and quiet and she has had a crush on Jayden for some time. Jayden is anything but shy and quiet, he is all alpha but his behavior can sometimes be related to that of a child. When he doesn't get his way, he storms off and acts like a complete jerk. While this is his most frustrating trait it was also his most endearing.
"They say that every man needs a woman when his life is a mess. Because just like in a game of chess, the queen protects the king. If that is the case, I am ready to catch my King and keep him too. Whether he is ready or not."
Due to an accident, Peyton finds herself rooming with Jayden and that is when things really get fun. He is brooding jerk and she is confused patient. Their interactions throughout this book were really enjoyable. I found myself laughing at the things they would say to each other. And I was really rooting for them to figure it out before it was too late. Both of their pasts are tragic and under their outward personalities you find that Jay is big softy and Peyton can be as tough as nails.
The writing was very engaging and even though I missed other installments, I found myself being able to pick up on the other's characteristics because they were just really well written. The whole book was well written; conversation flowed well, there was action (inside and outside the bedroom), and great references thrown in. Payton and Jayden's journey was a pleasure to read; it was funny, heartbreaking, sexy, endearing and entertaining. I can't wait for what is next for these friends and I will definitely be tuning in.
This is was my first book by Anne Jolin and it will not be my last, as a matter of fact I need to go back and read the first three books in the series so I feel like I am all caught up on everyone's life. This book can be read as a standalone, but I still felt like I was missing out by not reading the other books in the series.
The book for me could be described by a kiss:
"Timeless.
Vulnerable.
Captivating.
Magical.
Candid."
4 1/2 out of 5 stars
This is the first book in this series that I've read, but now I have 3 more on my TBR pile because I absolutely loved this book!!! Peyton and Jayden are two broken souls who long to be fixed.
Ms. Jolin does an amazing job of putting the reader right there in the story. Though it took awhile before the relationship took off, the story hooked me from the first page. I also love that we got both Jayden and Peyton’s points of view in the story. I don’t think I would have fallen for the characters nearly as much if I hadn’t heard from both of them...afterall, they both pulled some pretty dumb crap before they finally got smart!
Jayden’s alphaness made him that much more trouble for Peyton, but she had still crushed on him for the last two years. Living in a small town, she thinks she knows everything there is to know about him, but when circumstances lead to them being roommates, everything she thought she knew is off the table.
Peyton isn’t as advertised though, either. She puts off a sweet, innocent personality, but there are so many more layers to her than that. Scars inside and out will shine and help guide her and Jayden together.
Once Jayden finally committed to being with Peyton, I was blown away everytime he’d start to speak. He really had me swooning after him.
It’s me. I the the one for you. Am I perfect? **** no. Can I promise you smooth sailing? Hardly. But I know that when the darkness comes each night, I want to be holding you as it descends. I know that I want to be on the receiving end of every one of your smiles. I know that I want the chance. I want the chance to be the man who loves you.
This was an emotional read full of laughs and tears, but well worth it. I am definitely a new fan of Ms Jolin and can’t wait to go catch up on what I’ve missed in Rock Falls.
First, I just have to say that I LOVE THE ROCK FALLS GANG!!! I can not get enough of them, each book becomes my new favorite, KK is no exception.
We met both Peyton and Jayden in the previous books in the series and it's been a hard wait for this book but SO WORTH IT!! You may think Pey is just the quiet, new girl in town and maybe she's shy. Well their is not one shy bone in her body. She is strong, fierce, protective, loyal, honest, smart, innocent in the best ways, funny, sarcastic, and absolutely gorgeous with her violet eyes. Jay we've known to be the clown. He always has a way to make things dirty, he has a joke for everything. He knows how to bring a smile to those he loves. But everything we thiink we know... we couldn't be more wrong.
Both are putting up a front to hide the things that hurt them, just when you think you know how deep their pain goes you see that it is much worse than we could have imagined. Can two broken souls who dont believe in love (anymore), or think they are unworthy find a way to heal eachother and take away the pain, or will this leave them more broken than they started?
A temporarly living arragment with her biggest crush when she's bruised and broken will leave her wearing her scars with pride.
When things are too good to be true, they often are. Just when things are going beautifully between JayPey the thing that first brought her here may be the thing that takes her away.
Will love find a way to conquer all? Don't ask me, that's one you'll have to find out for yourself ;)
OMG I loved this book!!! After finishing book 3 I couldn't wait to get my hands on Jay and Peyton's story. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading from book one first. Trust me...you will love all the characters in this series!!
For the past two years Peyton has secretly crushed on Jay but never imagined he felt the same. Jay has been attracted to Peyton from the moment he lays eyes on her but he doesn't feel worthy of anyone's love after losing his high school sweetheart. Both are suffering from a horrible past...would they be able to help each other heal or are some things to hard to forgive?? When Peyton's past resurfaces can Jay keep her safe before it's to late??
Gahhhhh that ending!!!! Are you kidding me?!?! I need Jackson's book now!!! I loved Colt as well so my fingers are crossed we will get a book on him soon as well. I mean come on....he deserves to be happy as well. He was such a great and wonderful friend to Peyton. Amazing job Anne!!! I am so in love with this series and these hot alpha males!! A definite one click series!!!
I absolutely love, love, LOVE this series! : )
Peyton & Jay have known each other for two years. They've had an attraction to one another since moment one, as well, but for different reasons have shied away from one another. Until Jay can't take it any more & decides that Peyton is HIS. Except that even after he's decided this, he still struggles, and so poor Peyton is left hurt & confused. THANKFULLY, this is written really, really well & doesn't last long in relation to the story. I get annoyed by that particular trope quite easily, and I wasn't even a little annoyed this time, so that's a big plus!
The way their relationship progresses is beautiful, and the way the overall story that's been continuing throughout the series progresses gets two thumbs up as well. AND! A big plus - this story gives us both POV's. Dual POV is my favorite style!!
I read books 2-4 through the weekend, and had hoped to jump right into Jackson's story, which is book 5, but I finished this one a day early. *grin* Basically, what I'm telling you, is that this series is amazing & unputdownable! 10+++ stars all around! : )
I received a copy of this book from HEA Books Tours in exchange for a honest review and as part of the book's blog tour promotions.
There are love stories about people that we can't forget. Anne Jolin's Rock Falls series is one of those. Since the first book, her characters have earned a place in my book-loving heart. They were all real and likeable. They were men and women who don't always look for love, but end up with the best.
The fourth book, Keeping King, is no different. We have a hero who is outwardly laidback but has a hidden depth that pleasantly surprises us, readers. We also have a heroine who is a strong fighter despite having her own insecurities. If we put them together, you can only expect a great love story to come out from it.
Keeping King is another successful addition to the series. I think King might be my favorite hero in the series, so far. I think I may say the same thing about Jackson in the future, but right now, Jayden is really at the top. I truly loved this book, and this is something I can see myself re-reading every now and then.
This book was perfection! This whole series has been so much fun and I've totally been binging on it! I literally read all four books in four days!
I was so excited to finally get into Peyton's story and find out her story. And Keeping King definitely doesn't disappoint. This story is beautifully heartbreaking and will bring you to tears.
Jayden King looses himself in woman. He's the funny man of the group but little do they know that he's harboring a lot of pain. Pain that will never leave until he meets Peyton...who makes him want to be better. But he's so afraid of breaking her, he fights himself on being with her.
These two characters have bad enough pain and suffering for a lifetime, but together they find peace they never knew they could have. They discover each other again through one another. But will Peyton open her dark past to him? And will Jayden convince himself it's okay to love?
You can find out all in this beautiful story. And now I'm waiting to get my greedy little hands on Saving Steele. (:
Received ARC for honest Review....
5 STARS!!! I didn't think Jayden could make me swoon as Braxton Bennett... But Holy Moly, he's seriously knocked off my knickers!! He struggles from something from his past. He shows to his friend an happy person, but in reality he's struggles with what happened in his past. And doesn't know what to do with what he's feeling, what he's thinking. Peyton has a past, one she's trying to forget, but her nightmares haven't let her do so. She's a fighter and is trying to survive. But when Peyton needs him, he's there for her and takes charge. And when either of them can't keep fighting what they feel...MAJOR OVARIE EXPLOSION!!! The chemistry is -knock my socks-hold me tight-do me sideways-or any way- HOT! Love how Anne Jolin keeps surprising me more and more with each book. Keeping King is a must read!!
Keeping King by Anne Jolin is a great addition to the Rock Falls series, telling the story of Peyton Callaghan and Jayden King, two fighters who come together in an amazing series. Peyton and Jayden are friends, but are unexpectedly thrust together after an accident, and the sparks really fly between those two!
I appreciated the way Peyton was able to make something of herself after a harrowing past. She was a feisty heroine who stood up for herself and provided support for Jayden when he needed it. Jayden lived through something no one should ever have to and his devotion to his future while staying true to his past filled me with warmth and made me root for him more. The secondary cast of characters were phenomenal, and I loved seeing some of them in a new light. I loved this couple, it was a great read so get to one-clicking! Can’t wait to see what else Anne has in store!
She has done it again!! Anne Jolin is simply amazingly talented. This book smashes you into pieces and then builds you back up again. Peyton is one fierce little woman and I adore her. Jayden is a sexy alpha male that every woman needs to read about. He's broady and stand offish but inside his just and big teddy bear you just want to hug. Every woman needs a Jayden!!! I absolutely loved this book!!!! It has it's highs and it's lows and is a complete roller coaster ride but once you think nothing else could possibly happen, you better think again because you are in for a surprise. I highly recommend this to everyone and if you haven't read the rest of the series. You definitely NEEED TOO!!!!! HAPPY READING!!!!
HOLY JAY! Anne Jolin is by far and away a TOP favorite author of mine. To say I'm obsessed with her writing is an understatement. Every book in the Rock Falls Series gets better and better. These HOT, alpha, tattooed men literally melt me into a puddle.
Keeping King is incredible. I loved how the story went back into the events in book 3 and gave us more to what happened with Peyton and Jay during the fateful scene with Beth and Hannah. I loved getting more details on the incident.
Jay and Peyton both had secrets/scars to overcome and they do that together. Jay is protective and HOT af! I wanna be his sugar! God, I love this book. I devoured it. The ENDING tho. Cannot wait for Jackson's story in 'Saving Steele'
