In Book 2 of Leta Hawk’s Kyrie Carter Paranormal Mystery series, a paranormal investigation on the campus of Willow Lake College leads to the discovery of a decades-old murder mystery.

Kyrie Carter is thrilled to accompany her best friend JoEllyn to their alma mater, Willow Lake College, for a ghost hunt with the campus Paranormal Club. She is pleasantly surprised when celebrity ghost hunters Drac and Gabe Petery show up with their team. She is not so pleasantly surprised when her critical former teammate Spook Steele shows up with them.

What begins as a routine investigation into campus ghost stories soon turns dangerous as Kyr encounters a malicious spirit in the bell tower of Appleton Hall. Upon further investigation, the team learns that a suspicious fire had claimed the life of a female student in 1958. After Spook becomes a victim of a similar fire in the bell tower while investigating, he and Kyr begin to suspect they are dealing with more than a simple haunting.
Kyr and Spook put aside their differences and team up to piece together what happened in the bell tower. The mystery deepens as they discover that everyone—townspeople and campus administrators alike—seem determined to keep the truth hidden about the events of that night.

I don't remember when I knew I wanted to be an author; it was just something that was always present inside my soul. Words have always fascinated me, especially the way the right words strung together could capture almost any experience and make it live for whoever was reading them. In fact, I loved writing so much that I was that one weirdo in class who would rather write a 10-page essay than take a multiple-choice exam.

I have tried my hand at many kinds of writing--poetry, children's stories, short stories, novels, scripts, and the occasional song lyric (although I usually deal with parodies of popular songs rather than my own). In addition to writing about Kyrie Carter's paranormal adventures, I am also working on a young adult fantasy/romance loosely based on the Arthurian legends.

When I'm not writing, I am busy working with children in various settings. I teach Sunday school, serve as a Den Leader for my son's Cub Scout troop, and work with Bible Release time as a Coordinator, Listener, and Song Leader. I'm also the mother of two very active, creative, and intelligent boys and one very naughty, energetic dog.

My husband and I enjoy taking trips to Gettysburg, Florida, and the beach, and we hope to do some traveling out West in the near future.

In all honesty, I picked up this book almost immediately after I finished the first one in the series. The way it ended just left me no choice but to pick up the second. I’ve been blessed with great series lately, and this is a prime example!

The second adventure we have with Kyrie Carter and her fellow paranormal investigative friends is just as intense, if not more so as lives are put at risk in the search for answers. Not only do we have the mystery of Willow Lake College, but we have growing romance between characters (I will stop there) which is always fun.

I retain my two favorite characters are Kyr and Spook, both full of spunk and stubborn to a fault, but curious about the supernatural/paranormal world. They both care enough about what they are doing as well as each other and the rest of the team that makes them an unstoppable team. The fact that the romance was so well woven in with the action and the mystery of the college’s secrets made this more of a cozy mystery than I originally had guessed, which made me love it even more.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loves paranormal investigations and mystery with some romance. It received five out of five beans from me and I really hope that there is a third because I can’t wait to find out what happens to our new friends next!!

I fell upon this series accidentally as I do many of the books I read. I decided to read it because first, it had the paranormal element that I love and second, because the plot was similar to the haunted house investigation shows that I love to watch, no matter how corny they are. I ended up reading all three available books in the series in one weekend and will definitely read number four when it comes out.

These books are not deep, intellectual reads. They are meant to be fun paranormal romance with a little bit of suspense. For me, they were a fun escape from the longer fantasy novels I usually read. The characters were engaging but the main character, Kyrie, could actually be slightly annoying and immature at times. However, it was still enjoyable to see how she slowly realized her ability and grew with it while developing a relationship with one of the investigators.

The investigations were my favorite part of the story. Going into the buildings with cameras and other ghost hunting devices to see if anything happened. This is what really held my interest. The research into the mysteries held my attention and I enjoyed both the suspenseful moments and the downtime.
