Saving his past could destroy her future… Damaged and desperate, Danica Wilcox searches for sanctuary and peace of mind after enduring vile and brutal treatment by the dark warlock Matías Escobar. Hoping for safe haven at an old summer cabin owned by the Wilcox witch clan for more than a hundred years seems to be her safest option. But when her rejuvenating R&R is interrupted by a ghostly visitor, Danica sets out to solve the mystery of his death. Determined to uncover long-hidden truths, Danica takes a journey into the past, calling upon her own special gift of manipulating time. However, the secrets that she uncovers were meant to remain buried. Torn between loyalty to her family and the beyond-earthly pull she feels for the mysterious stranger, Danica struggles between what is right and what is wrong, between changing the past and altering the future. Can Danica save her “ghost’s” life without destroying the Wilcox clan entirely?

A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.

While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.

After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.

This is by far the best written of the first six books in the series. The author, in prior versions, seemed to drag out detail sometimes rewriting the same information. No so in this book. The pace moved the story along and reading it was pure enjoyment.

This book's plot included time travel and who cares how many scholars say this is impossible due to whatever. All I cared about was the story itself and not what can or cannot happen in reality. Toward the end, she slipped in an explicit love scene, so keep this series away from the young teens.

I enjoyed the book and that is what reading is all about.

I liked this better than some of the more recent offerings in the Witches of Cleopatra Hill series. I liked that the book tackled the recovery of the main character from being abducted and bewitched (in a previous book). The time travel element also added to my enjoyment.

Playing with history.

I love stories with history mixed in. I look forward to the next installment of this series. It makes me want to travel to Jerome and see these places for myself.

"Spellbound" is a whimsical book that just didn't work for me.
Danica, still mentally scarred from the events described in the previous book, 'Protector', finds a way to travel back in time to save a ghost in her present.
There's very little substance to it and I struggled to finish it.
It's the last in the series I will be reading.

wish there was a follow up to show what happened next

SPOILER ALERT!!!

It could have a follow up to see how well he adjusted to the new times and if he ever went back to see his family to let them know what happened… but overall good!

Danica Wilcox is recovering from her experiences in Protector and ready to come into her own in Spellbound, from Christine Pope’s Witches of Cleopatra Hill series.

Thanks to Caitlin McAllister’s premonition, she goes up to the family cabin, where she encounters a ghost from when Flagstaff, Arizona was an old west town, and Jeremiah Wilcox’s clan had just settled in. She becomes obsessed with finding out who this young man was and–knowing her family’s history–if one of her own forebears had killed him.

If you’re not familiar with the series, this is a fine place to start, introducing many characters who have starred in their own books. Each member of the witch clans has more common powers, such as the ability to start a fire or unlock a door, and also their own individual specialty. Danica’s ability has to do with time. Up until this point, she has used it to kind of freeze time for five minutes at a stretch when she is in a pinch, but in light of what she has learned about Robert Rowe, she begins to wonder if she can actually go back in time to save him. Her quest leads her to a reservation and to delve into historical costuming. Although I had a moment of doubt when the seamstress didn’t instruct her to season her corset, the detail in her clothing was full of delightful tidbits.

This book is strong in both the paranormal and romance aspects, with secrets and intrigue. It was one of those books when you suddenly notice that there aren’t a lot of pages left and wonder how the author is going to fit it all in. Admittedly, the ending feels just a smidgen rushed, but it is a strong story that kept me turning virtual pages of my review copy late into the night.

Holy time travel, cowboys and witches! Ghosts, astral planes and great doses of time period reenactment are the tools Pope uses to set the stage for SPELLBOUND. The love story is about a young witch exploring the limits of her gift to travel back in time to save a man (ghost present day) from being murdered by one of her ancestors. I recommend READING BOOK 5 FIRST to fully enjoy the events of Book 6, SPELLBOUND. Bad things, very bad things happened to Danica Wilcox in Book 5 and her family thought she might not overcome the event. She did recover with the help of her clan and friends. Caitlin McAllister, a seer, her best friend tells Danica she must go to the Wilcox cabin to heal. While staying at the cabin Danica meets the ghost of her future lover; she feels she is destined to travel back over a century to prevent his death so they can be together. Angela McAllister Wilcox, Prima, of her clan recommends Danica visit an ancient Navajo holy man, Alexander for training on time travel. Alexander Begione helped Angela develop her gift to walk on the astral plane in a previous book in the series. Danica practices and does it. So with extreme research, shopping and planning Danica prepares to go back in time! I ❤❤❤ how Christine Pope ties historical content into this story while joining it to present day. So much of the book was tied to preparing to and time spent in the 19th century that I felt the book ended to abruptly. I really wanted Danica to have her HEA story because she was so victimized in Book 5. I was left wanting more again . . . waiting for another book . . . to find out how Danica and Robert's story will end. I will buy it because it's going to be a good read!

I haven't read any of the other books in this series but I love Christine Pope's work so I jumped right in!!

Danica Wilcox is part of large witch clan. She's had a rough time of it lately. Her last boyfriend turned out to be a bad guy, she was kidnapped and her best friend was killed. Add to that her mother is trying to pair her off with a random selection of warlocks and she's had enough. She travels to the clan cabin to de-stress. But she starts having visions of a man in 19th century clothing and she thinks she may have finally cracked!! When she sees this man murdered on her front porch, she becomes determined to help him, after all what's the point in being able to time travel is she can't save this man.

Her adventures begin when she finally amps her powers enough to travel back and insert herself into the time of her ancestors. When she meets her "ghost" Robert Rowe, she feels a pull to him that she had not banked on. Will she solve the riddle of his murder? What murky family secrets will she uncover?

I'm not a lover of time travel romance usually but this had enough suspense and action to keep me happy! Danica is a great heroine, triumphing over so much tragedy but eventually becoming stronger for it. Robert is a great romantic lead!!! 19th century Arizona springs to life and it's interwoven by the "curse" that was laid on Danicas family patriarch. Fabulous read - now going to go and buy the rest of this series!!!!

I absolutely loved this book. Even if you haven't read any of the other books in this series, you will be able to read this story alone without being confused or feeling like you missed something. It had a nice mixture of the paranormal, romance and mystery. As soon as I started the book, I didn't put it down until I was finished it. Throughout the entire book I was rooting for Danica to correct the wrong of the past and to find that special someone that would help her to move on from emotional pain that was done by Matias. The book was well written and I look forward to reading the other novels that are in this series.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Same feeling as books 4 & 5. This is really a stand alone side romance novel. Unlike the other books, this one leaves you a bit hanging, I wish there was another book in Danica's story.
