The Longest Note

Rate this book
It was supposed to be a ‘reality show’ date… but when the cameras turned off, that’s when reality began.

Bad boy rockstar guitarist for Willow Son, Ryker, takes a break from the band only to return to find out that the tour has been officially cancelled and the band’s future is in jeopardy. Offering some new acoustic material, the record company pushes back, wanting the band to try a new way to get new fans.
The result is a chance for one fan to win a date with Ryker.

*

Struggling to survive, Alyson lives with her rich best friend, hoping better days are awaiting. One night, on a whim, her best friend secretly signs her up to win a date with the guitarist from Willow Son. It’s supposed to be a joke, but then Alyson learns that she’s in the top ten to win the date. That puts her on stage after a Willow Son concert, staring at the sexy guitarist, knowing there’s no chance he’ll actually pick her.
But he does.

Alyson is not meant for the limelight and Ryker can’t get enough of it. The quiet, shy girl and the wild, bad boy rockstar is better left a fantasy, but once reality and romance barges its way into their lives, Ryker and Alyson soon realize that there’s more at stake than just an album and a TV show… it’s their hearts.

Willow son 3: Ryker finds himself in a bit of a bind with the record label when he decides to hit the road on his own for a bit. After the rest of the band tracks him down, he feels the need to make Amends. When he suggests a contest with a date with him as the prize. Alyson doesn't know but her roommate signed her up for the contest. When date night arrives Ryker is happily surprised to realize how much he is enjoying her company. Unfortunately Alyson is getting the rockstar she thinks he is. Each have their dark pasts but in the end they fight to make it work. Another great read to this series. Looking forward to the next!

A big 5 stars. I can’t believe how caught up in this book I got. I actually feel tired from reading this book and no, it’s not just because I stayed up late reading it’s because I couldn’t put it down. This is Ms. James at her finest. You have that “stars in the eye” thing going, two people falling for each other and you getting your hopes up right along with them. There is also some heavier stuff because of Alyson’s mom who is an alcoholic and Ryker who has a brother that he tries to stay far away from. I feel like I’ve been through it all myself right along with Ryker and Alyson.

Willow Son has made it to the big time. We know that Portis had taken on the band and is trying to make them into a money machine. That’s all fine and good…nothing the matter with money but what mattered to these guys was their music and their fans. Ryker had taken some time off more or less and just checked himself out of the band for a little bit because he wanted to get back to the basics and he had overheard Portis talking about having the guys from the band do a reality TV show. They were meant to play music, not do all of the fluffy crap that the big wigs wanted. Ryker ended up playing in bars acoustically without people realizing who he was at first. Once people realized that they had the guitarist from Willow Son up on the little stage playing all hell broke loose. There were sightings of Ryker everywhere and everyone wanted to see if they could get lucky enough to pick the right bar that Ryker would be playing at. This is how the guys from the band actually tracked him down. Nothing like the internet with everyone posting about the Ryker sightings.

Once the guys all found out about the reality TV stuff they were none too happy and decided that what they really wanted to do was put out an acoustical album which featured Ryker’s songs. In order for this to happen they had to make a deal with Portis. Ryker knew that he owed his bandmates for taking off on them and didn’t want them to suffer because of him. So Ryker came up with the idea that they would hold a concert and at the end of the concert some lucky girl would end up with a cash prize plus a date with a rock star.

Ashley was a huge Willow Son fan and signed up for this chance to possibly win a date with Ryker who just happened to be her favorite “lust over” band member. She filled out the paperwork and at the end of the form said that if she gave another person’s name it would win her brownie points in this contest. Ashley didn’t think twice about putting down her roommate’s name. Alyson was oblivious to all of this because she had a lot she was dealing with. She was trying to keep her alcoholic mother at bay by paying her bills, she was nearly done earning her MBA, plus she worked a part time job. So she didn’t mind when she got a call that she was one of 10 people that Ryker would get to choose from for this date. She needed the money more than she needed some date with a rock star.

This was the setup for the story of Ryker and Alyson and let me tell you Ms. James knows how to write a rock romance book. You had the hot rocker not looking for but possibly finding his forever. Now he just had to get Alyson’s attention. You will be rooting for these two and hoping that the fake rock star persona doesn’t keep them apart. Can little Alyson deal with all the attention that comes from being with Ryker and will her mom be there to put a damper on their little romance because all mom can think about is her next drink and trying to get money from Alyson. If you are rock romance fanatic like I am this is a definite read for you. I have loved all of the Willow Son books so far and can’t wait to see what comes next.

Book three of the Willow Son Brothers of Rock series brings us the story of guitarist Ryker and MBA student Alyson. Ryker doesn’t like being managed and doesn’t like deadlines or schedules he just wants to create music. He does not like the direction Willow Son’s new management and financial backer is pushing the band, so he decides to leave for a little while. He just hits the road, not telling anyone where he is going or for how long. He ends up playing some acoustic shows at small bars playing stripped down versions of Willow Son songs and some new songs he wrote. When videos of these shows go viral, the rest of the band find him and join him for a few shows, keeping with the acoustic vibe. The band loves the acoustic songs and decide they want their next album to be all acoustic. Naturally, Portis, the new management does not agree. In fact, Portis wants so much more, he wants a reality TV show built around the band. So Ryker offers a compromise of agreeing to a special “win a date with Ryker” show. He sees it as his punishment for his little vacation from the band.

Alyson is a smart, but financially struggling MBA student. Her mother is an alcoholic and Alyson is constantly bailing her out of situations. Alyson’s roommate Ashley is rich, so Alyson lives rent free allowing her to barely survive by working as a waitress while completing her MBA. Ashley enters Alyson in the win a date with Ryker contest because it also includes money with the grand prize. She ends up being one of the ten finalists, and Ryker picks Alyson because she was not a typical Willow Son fan. The date ends up being a staged disaster, with Ryker acting like a jerk for the cameras. And to make matters worse, the dinner is at the restaurant where Alyson works. But something sparks in Ryker and Alyson despite the horrendous staged date.

Eventually, Ryker realizes he doesn’t have to be a jerk and decides to try to make it up to Alyson. Meanwhile, both Alyson’s drunk mother and Ryker’s convict elder brother complicate things. But once Ryker and Alyson drop their guards, they admit that they really do love each other. There is a nice ending with Alyson’s dream MBA project finding a sponsor.

Before the book was published, the author lent me an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Like all Karolyn James books, this one needs an editor. The book I was loaned contained several typos, missing words and weird sentences. Not as many as some of her other books, but still enough to be aggravating.

I received a this book as an ARC for an honest review.

In this book we meet Ryker and Alyson. Now just like the rest of the guys from Willow Son Ryker hasn't had it easy, there are demons from his past that could pop up at any time. Alyson knows all about these types of demons she has been fighting her own all of her life. Alyson has drive and is determined to make a better life for herself though. The things she needs now is a job that she won't have her boss offering it to her with the guise that she will sleep with him at some point. However no matter what life throws at Alyson she is determined to just keep fighting. So when her roommate puts her name down for a contest to win a date with Ryker from Willow Son she thinks that the money she could win would be amazing but doesn't really see this as anything more than a publicity stunt. Their first meeting sets off all her senses though and a part of her wishes that he really wanted her. Can she get past her hang ups to see if she and Ryker could really be something.

Ryker isn't ready to be pushed into the giant machine that is the music business. He wants Willow son to continue to stand out be a band their fans can be proud of. So after hearing a private conversation between their manager and the record label he bolts. He knows he has to go back and he knows that he let down his brothers but he just can't help how he feels. To get back in the label's good graces he offers a compromise they produce a acoustic record and he will put himself out there for one date with a woman. The guys think he's nuts for doing this but Ryker believes in their music even the softer acoustic sound they can do. When he sees the women one woman stands out to him he knows he should choose another take the easy route but when has he ever done that and Alyson will never be the easy route. Will Ryker fight for them or let his fame get in the way?

This book is another amazing story in the Willow Son series. It shows another side to all of their personalities as well as how far they are willing to not only fight for the band but each other as well. I enjoy how each of these characters in this series start taking on their demons and this book is no different. You really feel how both Ryker and Alyson had to fight to get where they are and they are still fighting to make sure that they can get something that looks and seems like happiness. In this book we also find that when you lean on others those demons just don't seem as big. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Willow Son Ryker is the bad boy Rocker…

Ryker is the quintessential bad boy Rockstar, everything in excess, women, drink, and sex. At least that is the impression he gives fans and press. The Willow Son tour is cancelled early when the opening act is less than stellar and Willow Son clashes with the no name band. Willow Son is frustrated with the turn of events, but Ryker more so than other people realise. When the band returns to LA, Ryker decides it is time for him to be away from everyone. He works on his music but the call of the stage is too great. A bar owner has befriended him and when Ryker asks to play an acoustic one-man show, he takes the stage with no one knowing who he is. When people begin to recognise him, the video is posted online.

Willow Son has been looking for Ryker, but with no success until the videos from different bars begin to show up. The rest of the band join him at his favourite bar venue and the group does a show of acoustic only songs and are surprised that Ryker’s idea of the acoustics are well received which leads to them telling Portis they want an acoustic only album. Portis refuses their suggestion. Ryker is certain the acoustic album will work and sells himself for any promotion Portis wants to do other than a reality television series. A deal is struck and Ryker is the prize in an online contest for a date with the ‘bad boy’.

Ashley is a huge Willow Son fan and is crushing on Ryker. She enters the contest and finds out to get more chances she can recommend a friend in the contest, so she recommends her roommate Alyson so she can garner extra chances. Alyson could care less, she likes the music but she isn’t a fanatic fan. The only reason she would go on the date is that the winner not only gets a date with Ryker, but also a cash prize.

Alyson is working on her MBA and needs the money to be able to finish school. When she wins the final round of 10, she is stunned but knows she isn’t the Blonde California Girl type and goes along with the contest only to get Ashley an autograph and picture of Ryker.

Both Ryker and Alyson have troubled family members and are both trying to keep their goals in sight without falling into the troubles of their families. Working toward one’s goals is never easy; sometimes one must make sacrifices and sometimes stand one’s ground to achieve what one wants. Willow Son continues the inside story of the band and their journey.

I just finished this most outstanding book, or I should say continuation of a series, the Brother of Rock, “The Longest Note” by Karolyn James. I think I may have become a book slut. You see, the reason I say this is because I think that this is my favorite in the series. I said this about the last book in this series. Or, maybe, it is just that I absolutely love Karolyn’s writing and anything and everything she puts out is just spectacular! Karolyn writes in such a way to bring the reader into any story that she writes.
This story is about Ryker and Alyson. Ryker is a guitarist for the band Willow Son. I guess you could call him the bad boy of the band. But, really is not. He has a habit of disappearing and going off on his own when he needs to think, or when something happens in the band that he does not like. Ryker overhears their manager and promoter talking about having the band participate in a “reality show”, and takes off, leaving the band to handle the backlash. The “reality” show turns out to be “A date with a rock star”, and the “rock star” is Ryker.
Alyson’s best friend Ashley submits their names for the competition without telling Alyson until after the fact. Much to Ashley’s and Alyson’s annoyance, Alyson is picked to participate. Alyson is too busy working on her MBA, or so she thinks. She goes to the “competition” as herself. Little does she know that by doing that, she stands out among the other competitors? But, in Ryker’s mind, this is a great thing. He spots her and has absolutely no intention of letting her walk away! And so their story begins. Then Ryker’s brother, and Alyson’s mother show up, each causing a lot of grief!
I love the part after her graduation when she sees Jett, no, Jett and Colby, no she…………stop! I will not give anything away. You will need to read this phenomenal book to find out what happens.
Thank you Karolyn for writing such a phenomenal series! Kudos. You never miss. I cannot wait to see who you write about next. 
Thank you for reading my review.

Lights! Camera! Action! - Now it's personal.

Ryker, guitarist for Willow Son is a tough guy, came from a tough life with secrets and a past he wished he could just slam the door on. His guitar was his way out and now he's on top enjoying the rockstar status and all the many perks that go with it. One thing he's not is a sell out, and he's not liking the loss of control of his destiny and that of his brothers in the band. He takes some time for himself and finds a couple bars and plays solo, but for that there's Hell to pay with Harry his manager, Portis, their backer, and his brothers too. That Hell may just turn out to be his salvation when an Angel named Alyson crosses the stage.

Alyson is an MBA student who's also a broke waitress, living paycheck to paycheck with an alcoholic mother who makes it clear it's all Alyson's fault for everything that's ever been wrong in her life. Fortunately, Alyson lives with a rich roommate Ashley or things would really be bad, Ramen noodles bad. Ashley is a major Willow Son fan who enters both of the girls in a contest. The winner gets a date with Ryker.

There's an instant connection, two lost souls who discover their shared baggage, though Alyson fights it. The limelight isn't for her. She prefers to work towards her goal of a non-profit rehab center where there's no need for her own personal security detail.

When their baggage bobs to the surface their personal strength is tested. Can the two open up their lives and expose their weaknesses to each other and to the world? Lights! Camera! Action!

Karolyn as always puts so much musical and behind the scenes, rockstar knowledge into her writing that it continues to blow me away. She deposits our minds onto the stage under the lights, backstage, in the recording studio and into the minds of the characters that well . . . give me a guitar lesson and some voice coaching and I think I could at least . . . get up and pull of some great karaoke. Okay, maybe that's a stretch, but this lady has ROCKSTAR mastered!

once more we're given a story where two unlikely people are a perfect match for each other!
Ryker went AWOL, needing time for himself, to reach out to the people who made it all happen for Willow Son. it takes a few days for the band to track him down but when they do Ryker is smart enough to realize he has to make some kind of sacrifice to make amends. he offers them to have a competition and he'll go out with one girl, date night, in front of camera's.
Alyson is trying her best to make ends meet, even living for free with her rich BFF isn't easy. she prefers to stay at home and study and work for her MBA. but her friend isn't having any of it. devious as her friend can be she has entered them both in the Willow Son date-competition. much to Alyson's surprise she's selected to be with the last few girls. it all happens so fast and she feels like a fish on dry land.
it's THE night and Ryker happens to find a group of giggling girls, herded together. there is one who catches his eye, one who stands out, one he feels instantly attracted too. he can't help but to tease her and push her buttons.
they're like day and night, fire and ice and yet they seem to make it work. it's a story with ups and downs, reality checking in on more then one occasion. there is love, friendship, loyalty, trust. each one just as important as the other. the depth of the emotions real and recognizable!
this one just has to be in your library if you have read prior books from Willow Son. imo it's needs a six star rating

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review & since I'd already read the 2 earlier Willow Son books, I was delighted at the opportunity. Ryker is the lead guitarist for Willow Son & for him, it's all about the music. Sure the money, the fame, the women are great, but don't tell him how to play, when to play & especially, what to play. He finds the current management very restrictive & takes off, away from the other guys, to get his head together. He performs in some small bars, paring back the music to its bare bones & introduces some new material that hasn't been played before. The guys track him down, do a couple of gigs & persuade him to come back. And it's time for him to make amends...
Ryker meets Aly, a struggling MBA student, who really isn't a fan; he behaves like a jerk & she's not impressed. She's not his type - or is she? He realises that he cares about what Aly thinks & he works at winning her over & she eventually, falls under his spell.
Karolyn James writes a good story & her characters are likeable, even lovable - do pick up The Longest Note - you won't be disappointed

I got the opportunity to read The Longest Note (Willow Son book 3) as an ARC for my honest review. This series just keeps getting better with each book!!! Ryker & Alyson's first meeting & date was a bad start to their relationship, the whole "First impressions" thing, Ryker being the cocky, arrogant Rockstar. Alyson was definitely Not impressed, thinking that would be the first & only time she would see him, Ryker is just full of surprises.
They have their ups & downs with Aly not knowing how to deal with the attention, some issues coming up with a mom & brother. The attraction is so strong between them, they have no other choice than to make it work out, so they can be together.
I loved how Ryker & Aly were just pulled together constantly, like they couldn't breathe without the other. You'll be surprised by what could have been given up so they could be together. Can't wait for the next Willow Son!!!

What a great book; this is the newest book in the series A Brothers of Rock- Willow Son. Opposites do attract and Ryker (the bad boy rocker) is definitely the opposite of Alyson (the good girl college student). Alyson's roommate enters her in a contest for a date with Ryker the guitarist from Willow Son and she wins the date. Ryker is attracted to Alyson big time and wants to protect her but also does not want to pressure her. Their date is filmed for a reality show and things get out of hand with the unwanted notoriety – Alyson does not want the attention nor the fallout. Karolyn James has a way with words and the flow of the story is captivating I could not put this book down, but that is no surprise to me as I have found all of her books to be that way. Excellent story written by an excellent author. Get you copy and start reading!

Review for THE LONGEST NOTE
I received this as a gift for an honest review
Ryker is my brand new favorite book boyfriend. Karolyn James has knocked it into the stratosphere with this for me. Ryker is superhot and an ass all at the same time. Just have to love a bad boy !! Alyson is the great girl with an alcoholic mom, rich friend and struggling to finish her MBA . What more could Ryker possibly want ?? These two start out with Alyson winning an improbable contest with Ryker as the prize. What happens when these two meet and connect is the stuff of dreams and it comes through as pure magic on the pages. I can’t even imagine the next installment being better or even coming close to this, but I will hold judgement until I read it. But in the meantime, run out and read this one because you will not want to miss it .

This is book three of the series and it doesn't disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I didn't want to put it down and was angry when I was interrupted while reading. Ryder is the quintessential bad boy rocker on the outside but on the inside he is a conflicted man. He loves to play and write music but hates being managed. He meets Alyson a struggling student studying for her MBA. Her best friend and roommate signs her up for a contest to win a date with Ryker. To her surprise she wins. Things really start to heat up from there. The steamy scenes will make you sweat. I can't wait to read the next book.

I was given this book by the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. My conclusions are my own. I was not compensated in any way.

Great Book!
This is a great book; this book is part of the A Brothers of Rock- Willow Son series by Karolyn James. Ryker is a guitarist for the rock band Willow Sun. He has taken a break from the band, only to find that their tour has been officially cancelled. The record company wants some new fans so they want Ryker to do a “reality show”. Alyson lives with her rich best friend who secretly signs her up to win a date with Ryker the guitarist from Willow Son. If you are looking for a great romance then you need to read this book and the other books in this series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Ryker is the bad boy of Willow Son. He does what he wants, when he wants and to hell with the consequences. Alyson is struggling to make ends meet while she works on getting her MBA. A once in a lifetime chance give these two the opportunity to meet and sparks fly. But dating a rockstar isn't all roses. There are consequences that Aly isn't sure she is ready or willing to put up with. "Right here, right now and then forever". How does Ryker handle the past when it comes knocking on his door? Does Aly sign a contract to let the publicity stunts take away her freedom? Will Ryker open his heart and let Aly in? Enjoy! I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

THE LONGEST NOTE (A Brothers of Rock - WILLOW SON - novel) by Karolyn James (Author)
** I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for my honest review **
The Longest Note is the third in the Brothers of Rock – Willow Son series. This is the story of Willow Son’s extremely sexy, headstrong lead guitarist Ryker. Ryker meets Alyson through a “win a date with a rockstar” promotion and sparks quickly fly. Alyson is a very likable, hardworking down-to-earth college student. Once again, Ms. James has given us a beautiful story full of romance, brotherly love and just the right amount of steam! Can’t wait for the next Willow Son story!

To tell you the truth, this book was kind of dull. The only thing that slightly peaked my interest was when Ryker Although that seemed kind of cool, I with that it picked up a bit more, but it didn't. I also didn't like the fact that the book tends to jump from one event to another. It does not leave a clean finish from on event and leads to the next event in a way that flows well. This is what made me think that I missed some parts and made me long to have a good transition. Hell, even the sexual parts were not that good. Wish for more when it got to those points.

Well I love Ryker! He is a bad boy on stage and a man with a wonderful heart off stage. He sees something special in Alyson from that first moment. I really like her. She has had to do for herself to get to where she is. It's a true inner strength to deal with what she has and still push forward. Ryker and Alyson have a great connection and it is a fantastic ride! I love these guys and how supportive they are of each other. Can't wait for the next book about Willow Son!

An another amazing read

Karolyn James has once again written another amazing rock star story. Each story gets better and better. Each book has music, hot rock star, sexy girl, surprising love and sexy bedroom scenes.

As with the other this book can be read as a standalone but has some back story so should be read with the others in order. It is also a fast, easy, enjoyable read.

Rockstars are hot and sexy and usually have a little baggage. And Ryker is no exception! After pulling a disappearing act on his band, he volunteers to do a date contest to make it up to the band. Alyson had no idea what she has gotten herself into. Her family troubles keep her hard at work but Ryker finds a way to get inside. Great story! This series just gets better and better with each book!

IDk, the book was a little depressing to me. I think there were just so many hard subjects for conflict and angst and anything good seemed so strained and awkward... she wins contest and she was strained and awkward at a date at the restaurant she happened to work at. A ray or two of hope for happiness completed the book kind of made up for it. Four stars.

Cool

I gave this book a three star because it deserves it. It was hard for me to put it down though one problem was that I was able to predict the end of the book just from the first chapter not a complex book but I love it can't wait to read the other books

Awesome book, loved Ryker and Alyson's story. A sexy badass rocker finally lets his heart goes to the woman that is total opposite to what he usually goes for. But the heart proves that the heart wants what it wants, and that love can heal all wounds. A must read.

ARC for honest review.
Third book in the Brothers of Rock series.
Two people from two different worlds, Ryker, a rock star and Alyson, a young woman trying to get a MBA. Both with family members they are better off without. Really nice story, enjoyable read that i would recommend.

I was given this story in exchange for an honest review. This is a faced paced read. The characters are well written. Just another good read to add to her growing list of good reads.

Loved it as I do all of Karolyns Novels

I really enjoyed reading Ryker's and Aly's story. A contest with a reality show brought them together and they found true love.
