The Lady & Sons, Too! is a brand-new collection of recipes from Paula Deen, owner of Savannah's Lady & Sons restaurant and one of QVC's all-time bestselling cookbook authors. In addition to featuring 315 new Southern recipes, this book has thirty-two more helpful kitchen hints from "the Lady" and a whole new chapter featuring introductions and recipes from some of Paula's friends in Savannah, including three recipes from John Berendt's mother! The Lady & Sons, Too! makes a tempting addition to any cookbook collection or a great gift for friends.
Paula Deen (born Paula Ann Hiers) is an American cook, restaurateur, author, actress and Emmy Award-winning television personality.
Deen resides in Savannah, Georgia, where she owns and operates The Lady & Sons restaurant with her sons, Jamie and Bobby Deen. She has also published five cookbooks. Though married in 2004 to Michael Anthony Groover, she continues to use the surname Deen from her first marriage professionally.
I have had this book for a some time. I've used several of the recipes and my partner and I have enjoyed every one. If you are a fan of easy southern food, this cookbook is a good option for you.
I want to make 90 percent of the dishes in this book. I have another PD cookbook from years ago and I use it for five or six of my most favorite recipes so I trust this one will get some serious usage also. Bear in mind, these are mostly Savannah/Georgia/South Carolina inspired deep south recipes so nothing is low fat and all the ingredients are "real" (no sugar substitutes, no frankenfoods). This is how my Nana used to cook and I find it reassuring and comforting.
I had no idea who this lady was when I went to Savannah twelve years ago and now I have cooked almost everything in her book. This is how I grew up, on this kind of simple ingredient cooking. Easy to follow directions and definitely good food!
Canned soup in everything! There are 15 recipes in the poultry section. TEN of them contain canned cream of whatever soup. The only reason I even rated the book a 2 (instead of a 1) is because there are a few recipes in the bread and dessert sections that look interesting - and Do Not contain canned soup.
With an introduction of a short life bio and some helpful tips, The Lady & Sons, Too: A Whole New Batch of Recipes from Savannah is still full of calorie-laden recipes, but not as many (as the first book) tempting me to try.
The only two recipes you need from this cookbook are her Banana Pudding recipe and Ooey Gooey Butter Cakes recipe. This was before she became obnoxious on Food Network in my opinion.
