Crying Woman Bridge
While returning from Professor Dawson's lecture on haunted places, the last thing Sheriff Jeff McQuede and Dawson expect to encounter is a terrified woman clinging to the railing of Mirabella's Bridge, crying for her lost baby. It looks as if Rae Harris has thrown the infant over the bridge in a fit of despair, but she claims he has been stolen by a ghostly figure she calls Mirabella. Similar to the La Llorona legend Dawson just spoke about, Mirabella was a local pioneer woman who was rumored to have drowned her infant after being abandoned by a lover. At first McQuede believes Rae was driven by madness, but he soon finds evidence that her story may be true, and the perfectly timed kidnapping of her child may be in some way related to lecture attendee and local celebrity, Jim Royce, and his vast fortune. Crying Woman Bridge is the sixth book in the Jeff McQuede High Country Mystery Series. Each book in the series contains a complete story and can be read as a stand-alone.

Summary –
Sheriff Jeff McQuede finds himself in the middle of a haunted mystery when he finds a woman crying for her lost baby on a bridge. At first, he thinks she’s gone mad but as Professor Dawson talks more about haunted bridges and their history, he wonders if he himself can help the woman. The more he investigates, the more he realizes her baby may well have been part of an intricate kidnapping ploy aimed at local celebrity Jim Royce and his fortune. Can Sheriff McQuede rescue the innocent baby and return it to its mother before it’s too late?
Narrator’s overall voice –
Michael Bowen is one of the best narrators I’ve ever listened to. His voice is perfect for mysteries like this one, full of suspense and intrigue. I started listening to this story one Sunday afternoon and couldn’t stop listening. Bowen’s timbre is intoxicating to listen to and it’s obvious he’s an accomplished narrator.
Does the narrator fit the characters?
Yes, Michael Bowen is the perfect voice to make this story come to life. He uses different voices for each character plus the one for the narrator and it’s like listening to a play.
Narrator’s reading style –
Michael Bowen is a talented narrator who knows how to draw the audience in. His cadence is the perfect level of intrigue and drama.
Narrator’s impact on reading experience –
Michael Bowen makes Crying Woman Bridge a five-plus star listen. I can’t say enough good things about his impact. I got sucked into the story from the beginning and when I was finished, I wanted to listen to it all over again.

Michael Bowen takes his pacing very seriously, like the talented actor he is. He knows what to do to draw the reader in and paces the story with just the right amount of drama, suspense, emotion, and tension to make it an irresistible listen.
Audiobook flow –
The audiobook flows perfectly, and I found myself wanting to listen to it over and over again.

Michael Bowen is what makes this audiobook unique. His take on this mystery is sublime and mystery readers everywhere will enjoy this one.

I am already a big fan of sister authors Loretta Jackson and Vickie Britton. Each new book I read only verifies my judgment is right. This story, like their many others is a well written tale. I love that the story begins with a legend. Mirabella's Bridge, sometimes know as the crying woman bridge has a haunting story that seems to have applied itself to the present when Rae Harris is found on the bridge by Sheriff McQuade and Professor Dawson. Rae is upset because her baby is gone, mysteriously stolen and thus, the tale begins. I love the author's special talent of making their characters feel real and for writing stories that readers are going to find hard to put down. Thanks Ladies!

Enjoyed this, like the characters and enjoy the historic information that Vickie and Loretta add to their books. Next will be reading book 6, murder and the good old boys club. If you have not read Vickies Aurdis Cole series, I highly recommend them also . You cannot go wrong with any book of theirs you pick up. Thanks ladies for some fun reading.

Great read, on the shorter sidebut perfectly executed. Really had me guessing till the end which is mighty hard to do! Great scenery an well developed enjoyable characters.

Love Vickie and Loretta's books!
Great book that keeps you reading until the end! I mostly like that there is no profanity or sex scenes in the book. I have recommended it to my teenager granddaughter.

An excellent mystery that integrates a popular legend with a crime. I really appreciate that each book in this series stands on its own, so while it's best if you read all the books in order, you can enjoy any book individually. This may be my favorite of the series.

Getting to know down-to-earth Sheriff Mcquede in this series has been a pleasure. Crying Woman Bridge was another enjoyable mystery in the series. The cast of characters are richly drawn and the tie-in to a somewhat dark legend made the story all the more interesting. Highly recommend this book and just purchased the next book in the series for some more interesting reading.

I enjoyed reading this book! It was well written and had my attention. I do like the La Llarona legend, it was blended into the mystery very well, the historical aspect and the plot. I also like Sheriff McQuede, he is a "straight shooter".

This mystery story is one of the very best I have every read. The cast of characters are so Richly developed and scrutinized it begs to get some grand award in the not so distant future. Excellent writing is evident.

Perfect reading for Halloween! Once again Britton and Jackson mix legend of the old west. in this case La Llorona, into their taut mysteries. Well done.

Jeff has no end of suspects, the uncaring father, famous grandfather, the bossy aunt, the mothers new boyfriend. There are plenty of red herrings to keep you turning the pages to solve the mysteries.
