Jessica Beck loves donuts, and has the figure to prove it. It's amazing what people can convince themselves is all in the name of research! For each recipe featured in the donut mysteries, a dozen more are tried and tested.
When not concocting delicious treats, Beck enjoys the rare snowfalls near her home in the foothills of North Carolina.
This entry seemed a little higher quality than the last...ten or so or more. The writing and grammar still need work but the story actually drew me in. I'm intrigued to discover how awful or not terrible the next installment might be. Suzanne (the main character) is still a very selfish human being but I kind of liked a couple of characters in this book.
It was fun to have a book set outside of April Springs, although I missed Momma and Philip being around. I thought the mystery was a good one and what a setting! I would not want to be stuck at a mountaintop resort during a snowstorm with no power! I figured out the killer just before it was revealed. I feel like I should have figured it out sooner but I didn’t. I can’t wait to see what Suzanne and Grace get up to next.
Ok, so Suzanne is basically forced into trying to figure out who murdered a man and why everyone seems to be trying to murder a woman, who is Grace's boss. From the beginning it seems straight forward as to what is going on, but twists and turns, just like the maze in the book, happen throughout and Suzanne figures it out at the very end. Hint: it's a woman, ha, ha, ha!!! All the suspects are women. LOL Enjoy!
Criminal Crumbs by Jessica Beck is the 21st book in the Donut Shop Mysteries series. Suzanne joins Grace on a corporate weekend retreat but when the boss is killed, they are again on the hunt for a murderer. I enjoyed this book much more than the previous ones. It was nice to have it take place outside of April Springs and Suzanne and Grace seemed more likeable and capable than in the previous books. The killer was rather obvious, but overall an enjoyable cozy mystery.
Grace talked Suzanne into going on a three day corporate mountain lodge getaway with her. What could possibly go wrong? An accident, or was it a.murder? A storm that knocks out power, telephones and the exit to the retreat?
I debated between 3 and 4 stars for this book but ended up making down 4. I rounded up, it's a solid 3.5.
This book doesn't take place in April Springs with the normal cast of characters and that's a good thing. Suzanne and Grace head out to a weekend retreat for Grace's work and all the excitement happens on the getaway.
It's pretty much the classic Who Done It and I solved it rather quickly. Still, I liked the new characters and setting and felt that it was a quick enjoyable read.
Now I'm happy, this book was "Exciting" with lots of action [unlike the last book]! I feel the reason was that the story took place with Grace and her co-worker's at a mountain resort with no Momma or Philip or Jake or George, I love these characters but sometimes an author can tie too much of a story in it's characters leaving out the drama/intrigue of it's mystery.
