USA TODAY bestselling author Stephanie Bond was seven years deep into a systems engineering career and pursuing an MBA at night when an instructor remarked that she had a flair for writing and suggested that she submit to academic journals. But Stephanie, a voracious reader, was only interested in writing fiction–more specifically, romantic fiction.
Upon completing her master’s degree and with no formal training in writing (her undergraduate degree is in computer programming), she started writing a romance novel in her spare time. Two years later in 1995 she sold her first manuscript, a romantic comedy, to Harlequin Books.
In 1997, with ten sales under her belt to two publishers, Stephanie left her corporate job to write women’s romantic fiction full-time. In 2011,
Stephanie launched a self-publishing business. Since that time, she has sold more than 1 million copies of her own books. To-date, Stephanie has published over 70 novels and has over 6 million copies of her work in worldwide distribution in numerous languages and formats.
This book was hilarious! I laughed out loud several times. It’s like a 90’s version of The Unhoneymooners. If you loved that book as much as I did, you must find a copy of this book!
“Wife is a 4-letter Word” is the story of Alan Parish, who is on his way to his honeymoon…alone. Ditched at the alter by his fiancé, he decides to spend the week with the Maid of Honor, Pamela Kaminski, a real estate agent from a troubled past. Bond shines as a gifted writer and plotter. As I was reading, I was surprised by how ‘wrong’ this honeymoon went. If anything could go wrong, it did go wrong, and Pamela usually had something to do with it. Pam was a unique heroine who got drunk, swore, and seemed to have more sexual experience than Alan. I knew I was in for a roller coaster of a read when Allen and Pam got drunk at the airport and then she ended up throwing up from the flight turbulence. Um…okay. And then near the end of the book, they got drunk again and Alan got a tattoo of Pam’s name on his hip. I’m glad this is fiction, otherwise I hope AA sponsors their wedding. While the writing and plot details were superb, I have to give this book 4 stars because Bond missed an opportunity to show character growth and conflict. There were several instances where Pam reflects on her disadvantaged background, how she got kicked out the private high school she and Alan attended, and how she supports her sister’s education. There were also several times where Alan is described as someone who is used to a richer lifestyle than the rest of us plebians. While Pam gets Alan to appreciate the not-so-finer things in life, I felt that the social class conflict could have been strengthened. Pam obviously felt strongly about it, but they never seemed to discuss it or maybe have a family member protest their relationship. Most of the conflict came from Pam’s friend, Jo, the ex-fiancé. Sure, she dumped him, but he jumped into another woman’s bed real quick. How solid was that relationship? Rebound much? Overall, a light-hearted read, but I was also looking for a deep emotional connection between the two characters that wasn’t there.
Another great romantic comedy by SB This is the story of Alan, who has been jilted at the altar by his fiancé Jo, and Pam, Jo's best friend. Alan decides to go on his honeymoon alone. Drunk, he asks Pam to go with him. They are too opposite persons, Alan is uptight & conservative, Pam is a flamboyant bombshell. The vacation turns to a nightmare, and the two have to fight the attraction sizzling between them. A series of hilarious situations, between the exuberant Pam & the uptight Alan, will guarantee a few laugh out loud moments.
This book is another Fun Read from this author. Her characters are delightful and I would love to have as friends like them. During this year of struggle and hardship. This book brought a much needed light to my day. Thank you Ms. Bond.
Waktu di Jo sih kesan sy ttg karakter Alan & Pamela tdk terlalu bagus & sepertinya mereka punya bnyk kesamaan serta bibit2 rasa suka. Akhirnya jd kebawa ketika membaca kisah Alan & Pam, yg bagi sy mereka kurang lovable sih. Alan yg dr keluarga kaya, snob, underestimate org termasuk Pam yg dr keluarga miskin tp sukses di karir. Mereka sdh mengenal dr remaja krn Pam mendapat beasiswa di sekolah swasta tempat Alan jg bersekolah walaupun mereka tdk bergaul dlm kelompok yg sama.
Mungkin lebih bagus jika ceritanya fokus bgaimana mereka berdua melanjutkan rasa tertarik ini (aplg setelah Pam tdk disengaja hamil) ketika berhadapan dgn Jo atau ortu Alan dgn kondisi Pam dr keluarga miskin yg bermasalah. Ini malah kebanyakan ttg jeleknya akomodasi hotel bulan madu jg flirting2 mereka dgn org lain disana.
