When we first met, we were both lost. It was written in our eyes when we first saw each other. My past haunted me, your present haunted you. I could see that you were aching, yet trying to bury the pain deep down so that no one would know, but it was there. I saw it. I saw you. I thought you needed me to swoop in and save the day; to be your hero, your knight in shining armor that would ride in and rescue you from the torment. And something inside drove me to a place I'd never been before. A place where it didn't matter how stacked the odds were, because nothing would stand between us. Nothing would stand in the way of me being the savior you needed me to be, and I'd go to hell and back to protect you. I thought you needed me, but I was wrong. It's me who needs you. I need your heart next to mine in order to get over what I've been through, and to push through the obstacles that are in our way now. It won't be easy. It'll be the hardest thing either of us has ever had to endure, but as long as we make it through together, it'll all be worth it, because you're worth every bit of the struggle. It's because of you that I can stare death in the face and not feel the slightest hint of fear. You make it all okay. You're worth it. You’re worth saving.

Where the hell do I begin!? I was waiting for another dark, raw and messed up book.. FINALLY!!
As cliche as this sounds, from the very first page, WORTH SAVING become a book I COULD. NOT. PUT. DOWN. And to say it was addictive would be the biggest understatement. I was so engrossed with the story and so emotionally connected with the characters that I went let myself fall asleep at 5.13am. Had to finish this book. Too bloody good.
Not only is the writing one of the easiest narrations I have read in a long time, but it tells a story from a clear perspective? I mean, the story and characters are so complex, yet the writing style balances out that element of a breath of fresh air. It makes it easy to follow the story. It doesn't drown it out or drag it out for the dark, intense and tearful story that it is. Long story short, I wish many other books had this type of writing..
I was honestly an emotional mess. Not knowing what to do with my messed up mind and clouded soul, I had to force myself to stay awake for another half hour just so I could red something lighter.. No regrets what so ever. WORTH SAVING is my type of book. Without a doubt.
Layla and Austin.
Two individuals that couldn't be more different.
Different yet they possess a quality that brings their souls, minds and hearts together even if they don't know or want it. Undeniable.
I cried so damn much just reading the first chapter. Poor Layla. I mean, how can a monster like her father exist?! How can life for people like Layla ever be fair in any context? Why did I feel such a strong connection with her?? So many questions that kept going round and round in my mind and they never truly stopped even after the end...
I wanted to jump in the book and kick that drunken's monsters face. Ugh. The rage that surfaced for him? Jesus. I still cannot believe how much hate I could have for a fictional character. AND I have read my fair share or dark, breathtakingly, emotionally challenging stories.. It's my bread and butter. With WORTH SAVING my emotional reached a new level. A proper explanation wont write itself but all I can say it, this was one hell of a book!!
Layla left her mentally, physically and sexual abusive not to mention drunk father four years ago. To say that that first night she run away was hard, it compared nothing to the daily "rituals" she has t endure.. I honestly thought that despite having very limited if any choices but to work at a strip club and earn money fast, that she wouldn't be introduced to YET MORE violence. Oh dear god. I can't.
EMOTIONAL
DARK.
INTENSE.
CHALLENGING.
HONEST.
SAD.
HEARTBREAKING.
SOULFUL.
SEXY.
INTIMIDATING.
BEAUTIFUL.
Austin is a soul that no matter what he does, I will ALWAYS ADMIRE. It's just one of those things that feed into your heart and soul when you haven't even realized it. It's just captures the slightest weakness and holds on. Never lets go...
He served his country. He is a soldier. He is a beating heart waiting any second to be stopped. A soul floating between life and death.
Even if I tried, I couldn't have fallen for Austin harder!! If I forget to mention it later or if it isn't already obvious, AUSTIN SLOAN is one of my top book boyfriends. There I say it. <3
He endured so damn much, I nearly broke into a million little tears having to read what he was going though. Cue the awkward kindle hugging moment.. But seriously, I know what it feels like to lose someone you love especially when you CAN'T do ANYTHING to save them. It's THE worse feeling in the world and it haunts you for the rest of your life. That's what happened with Austin. Losing a dear friend brought so many dark into his life..
The way he dealt and later progressed from all that darkness just made my smile grow wider which in turn made me love the story even stronger!!
When Layla and Austin stumble into each others lives, it seems like they unintentionally but FINALLY found someone that would take each one of them out of hell.. Whether emotional, physical or mental, they both had so much baggage on their shoulders. So many permanent physical and mental scars. So much pain and anger that they endured. Just simply, they have too much..
WORTH SAVING is a book that NEEDS the top spot on your TBR! If you want your heart to be ripped apart and your sanity to be gone, this is the book to go for. It's one in a million and I don't say that lightly. It will ruin you at the same time that it makes you realize you felt something, for a fictional world and for made up characters. It's THAT type of book..
I don't want to spoil anything, or anything else, so make sure you let me know your thoughts once you too get messed up with Austin and Layla's story!
Thank you W.S. Greer for this heartbreaking, soulful, sexy, addictive and emotional ARC. I cannot tell you enough how much this book impacted my already messed up heart.. TOO. BLOODY. AMAZING.
Worth Saving truly intrigued me just by reading the synopsis and I couldn’t wait to read it. Once I did get a chance to start this one, the prologue and first few chapters just sucked me right in. Layla and Austin had things that were haunting them. Austin was suffering PTSD after his most recent tour in Afghanistan while Layla, after getting away from her abusive father, has spent the last four years living a nightmare as a highly paid prostitute but cannot seem to escape that life. These two meet by chance one evening at a bar and their paths seem to keep crossing somehow. As time passes they become good friends spending time together and it eventually leads to more. But even though they have opened up to each other, Layla has not told Austin the truth about what she does for fear of losing the one good thing that has ever happened to her.
Going into this story I wasn’t sure what to expect, the synopsis didn’t give much away other than the fact the male MC was a military man. But shortly into this story we get to see what has them both haunted. I must say those first few chapters you could really feel the emotion and the torment both Layla and Austin were feeling. I really liked Layla’s character, she was such a strong woman who at the age of seventeen got herself away from her abusive father only to find herself into another bad and at times abusive situation in order to just survive. I really liked Austin’s character and seeing what he was going through trying to deal with the PTSD. Austin was sweet and funny and I loved that even though he was going through his own torment, he could see the torment that she had suffered and was determined to always make her smile.
This book grabbed me right at the start and I really loved the characters and was really excited about reading further into the book. Sadly though as the story progressed I found the characters began lacking the emotion and torment that they first had and that I fell in love with, they just didn’t have the same feel to them that they did in the beginning. Also, even though both characters were young and in their early twenties, I found that at times it felt that they acted more like high school age and it didn’t fit with their storyline. I really enjoyed Austin’s character, it was hard not to love it, I just felt at times when the story was in his POV, it didn’t feel like a male POV, which really shocked me knowing that the author is actually male.
Overall it was a good read, it just didn’t hold up to the potential I first thought it was going to have.
Overall it was a good read, and enjoyable storyline, it just didn’t hold up to the potential I first thought it was going to have. This story started off with a real big bang for me but once these two met, I found the total overall feel of the story changed, it started to feel to be too long and it fell flat for me at times. It started off with such great potential but it soon just left me unengaged and found myself skimming.
Layla Davison has escaped her abusive father but finds herself in a somewhat dangerous situation with her job. She fears her boss, Damien Baxter, and is embarrassed of her job but doesn't know how to walk away.
Captain Austin Sloan is a pilot in the war and faces challenges when his replacement is shot and killed in front of him while on duty. While Austin believes he is ok, his boss thinks he has PTSD and he is given time off.
In a chance meeting Austin and Layla meet in a bar and are instantly attracted to each other. When they run into each other days later Austin believes they are meant to be, but breaking down Layla's walls may be more difficult than he imagined but the two hit it off.
Yet, both have demons they are fighting against that don't allow them peace within themselves. Then Austin discovers a huge secret that Layla has been keeping from him and both of their worlds come crashing down around them and one of them needs the guts to get up and keep fighting for them.
I really enjoyed this book. It was heavy but at the same time the author was able to keep it light during some of the dialogue. There were very difficult subjects talked about and dealt with but I found it realistic. I had a bit of an issue with David Baxter not stepping in earlier but the tension would have not been the same had he.
I felt so much pain and sorrow for Layla with trying to escape one demon and then ending up with another but seeing how much growth she had due to the strength she got from Austin. Austin's character had so much trauma and I can only imagine what anyone fighting in any war must go through is incredibly horrific.
This was the first time I had read this author but it certainly will not be my last.
4.5 stars!! Austin and Layla's story was beautiful!
From the prologue we meet Layla and see the horrible things she had to endure. She decides she is not going to take it anymore and leaves the situation. Fast forward 4 years later she's doing the only thing she knows and it's not the best of situations. You feel for her and what she's been through. We meet Austin and something happens to him while he's on deployment that changes him. One night while hanging out with the guys, he meets Layla.
What I loved about this story is that while both Layla and Austin are dealing with issues , they slowly build a friendship and get to know each other. As the friendship grows, so do the feelings. We are taken on a journey of two people who meet at a time when they least expect it. They were what each other needed. WS Greer did an awesome job with their story. I went from sad, to angry (Damien and you will know why) to happy and I love when a story lets me have all the feels. That's when you know you've read a great book. With love, you can do anything and anything is possible as long as you have that person who is there and will always fight for you.
Do yourself a favor and read this story. You will not be disappointed!!
Worth Saving was simply amazing. This is not your typical love story. Austin and Layla have troubled pasts. While Layla has not had as easy life all together and has made difficult choices, Austin is troubled after his last tour in Afghanistan which has brought on PTSD. I feel that W.S. Greer was able to truly bring an honest account of what Austin was going through and while it was hard to read, I believe it was an amazing story. Layla accidently bumps into Austin and this sets them on this journey. While their encounter is brief, it sets the stage for the rest of their story. Can these two people get past their own pasts and find happiness? Can Austin overcome the lies that Layla feels she needs to tell? This is an awesome story you don’t want to miss. You will also see Jason and Jordon from Defending Her.
That this is my first read by WS Greer. Happy to say this won't be my last. This was an amazing story of two characters dealing with so much crap, it's amazing watching them overcome and find each other. I LOVED the storyline for each character and loved watching them take off and fly. An awesome read by an author who just hit my "read more" list.
This is a story of two very lost people in two very different ways. Layla and Austin.
Layla has run from a crap past. She came to her current job at the Red Pony four years ago with only intentions of staying until she got on her feet. Running from her sick Father, she had no where else to go and never ended up leaving. The money was good and it was the way on the outskirts of Vegas. It was quite and could be worse. Things, however, went south leaving Layla wanting out and trying to find her way once again. She tired of this life but the hands of an evil man, Damien Baxter, are keeping here where she doesn’t want to be.
Austin is struggling to survivor his last deployment. The Raptor Team went in and it should have been a routine exercise of getting the men out. When the dust cleared the young man under his command was gone. He didn’t listen. Austin told him to get down and back up to his seat where he belonged but he wasn’t hearing him. The Sikorsky HH-60 Pave Hawk Helo took a few hits but it should have been okay. It would have been okay if Lieutenant Weston would have just listened to him.
Austin sees Layla sitting alone and decides to speak to the beautiful woman. However Layla isn’t interested. She knows there is no future and Damien has taken his toll on her. Austin sees the sould that needs saving. He wants to be what she needs but in the end the pages flip.
There is so much sadness in this book but it’s a good read. The events are drawn out and maybe they just hit a little too close to home for me with my other half. The suffering of a PTSD soldier is not an easy life for anyone including those he loves. The story is drawn out and again for me maybe it was too much because I have personal experience. If you don’t know the issues then you would appreciate the extra chapters and in depth storyline. The characters are real and its easy to see their pain. Click it up friends if you want a brutal love story along with a story of survival. Its good. Give it a chance! Everyone is worth saving.
I received an ARC for an honest review. Review to post on Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets. Thank you WS.
I was lucky to have been able to read an ARC of this one and let me tell you, I give it 4 solid stars. It's a beautiful story that will leave you with a smile on your face. Facing some of the toughest obstacles of their lives, Austin & Layla find peace within themselves because of the love they find in each other. WS reminds us that everyone is worth saving, even in our darkest hours.
Life has so far dealt Layla a bum deal, between having a father that was never likely to win parent of the year award and a boss that is everything she doesn’t him to be, she is a woman who doesn’t live much, she exists. The child of an abusive parent, Layla deserved so much more in life but believing that was hard for Layla, she had been beaten down so much her spirit barely flickered anymore. It was as a result of her past that she put up with more than she should have at the hands of her rat of a boss. Damien Baxter was not a nice man, but that didn’t bother him, and while it worn Layla down, she couldn’t find the strength she needed to walk away. But could her hero be just around the corner? Austin Sloan is on leave, he may not want to be on leave but after witnessing the death of a fellow pilot he has been forced to take some long overdue R & R. Conflict changes a man, and while he finds it difficult to see that he has changed, those around him are concerned for his wellbeing. Layla and Austin run into each other in a bar, cliché I know but who knows where this chance meeting may lead. There is an instant spark of attraction between them but it isn’t until a second encounter that the penny seems to drop. Austin is sure that there is something between the two of them that deserves to be explored but Layla, she doesn’t make things easy for him. Layla really did appear to almost have the eight of the word on her shoulders, she just never seemed to have been able to cut a break, her story was tough and I was desperately holding on to the hope that Austin might just be the man to show her what it was like to be happy. But then again, who was I trying to kid, while Layla had been through the mill, Austin’s horror was more than I could possibly imagine. The magnitude of war, the things that he had seen, the distress that he and those around him had been party too haunted him and I wanted nothing more than to erase those memories for him. The author took us on an emotionally difficult ride, things were far from easy and were never as clean cut as they should have been but I understood that everything had its place and that everything happened for a reason. I got the pain that Layla was engulfed by, I understood that she had secrets that she wasn’t yet ready to divulge but we all know that the things that we keep hidden are the things that we know will tear us apart – and Layla is no different. When her secret worms its way to the light, she is left standing in the tatters of a relationship that while still in its infancy somewhat, had the potential to be the happiness that has always eluded her. Could they weather the storm, or would they go their separate ways. At this point I had my fingers crossed for them both. I knew whatever they did the journey was not going to be an easy one. The story wasn’t exactly of the light and fluffy variety, it hit hard and in some respects it needed too, it didn’t gloss over the harsh realities that this pair had experienced but the author did engage tactics which helped to lift the spirts of not just the characters but also me as the reader. I found the story touching and deeply reflective and I will certainly be looking out for this author again.
I have always been intrigued by this author. Following him on social media and sharing his work prior to this genre switch. Sadly I never had time to read his series but I know I have it and will find time !! This story is his first in this genre and I have to say I enjoyed it very much. I love dual POV , I am obsessed with male POV and here we get both and not only that but it is all written by a man !! That just does something for me !! I have always loved the men I read in books , yet there is something to be said for reading a man and woman POV written by a guy that you can relate to and have it feel genuine !! Some men do pay attention I guess.
The synop is obviously a piece of the story written by Austin , he is a USAF helicopter pilot and after a few tours and a horrible ending to this last tour he is home being debriefed and getting some much needed R&R time. His story is very real and very heartbreaking to read and now that so many do suffer this daily. These people suffering have risked their lives for our freedom and yet they suffer so much more than we ever have to. We first meet Austin in the moment of horror and then he relives this moment over and over , each time almost more painful than the actual time. He is suffering from PTSD yet he is a great guy and a very honest man. He very innocently meets Layla and just hopes with the little hope he has that she may be interested in something. He has yet to find someone WORTH SAVING , but by the end of this story it seems he may have been in need of saving all along as well.
The prologue starts our introduction to Layla. It is a powerful and also heartbreaking view of the life she had been living. Mother took off when she was a child , father is an abusive drunk and at age 17 her father attempts to go too far and she runs away. Of course without much money and no family it isn't easy to survive. Layla turns to the one thing so many have to turn to in order to make money and survive. 4 years later Layla is doing well for herself yet she hates what she does and feels ashamed of herself. The money has given her a place to live , a vehicle and food but it has ruined her spirit. Having Austin interested in her may seem like an amazing thing yet it is troubling to her because of her job.
As Austin spends his R&R struggling with PTSD , catching up with old friends and attempting at a relationship with Layla, he is not ready for the reality of going back into the field and finding out Layla's real secrets. Layla is able to get time from work and she begins to thrive and enjoy life with Austin. By the time she makes her choice to move on from her job it may be too late. Can Austin and Layla save each other or will they let the past dictate the future ??
I loved this book. I loved that both of the characters were flawed. They were both dealing with issues that were having a hard time overcoming. I liked that the story was told in a dual pov so we got to see how each character was dealing with their issues first hand, as well as how they were coping with the budding new relationship they were building. Layla was the girl from the abusive home. She turned to the only job she felt she could get at the time and it turned in to something she didn't think she could escape from. Layla was the "one day" girl, as I like to call them. One day she'll break free, one day she'll fulfill her dreams...she just needs to gather the strength to do it. Austin. I fell in love with him the first time he was introduced. He had the opposite upbringing as Layla. Two parents, normal upbringing, military family, he followed in his father's footsteps and joined. After a mission gone wrong, he is left to deal with the aftermath and is dealing with ptsd. I felt that W.S. Greer really did a phenomenal job describing exactly what Austin was going through. What I liked about Austin was, he was normal. He wasn't over the top, like so many characters are. He was a young man, home from war, going through hell trying to deal with the death of his friend. While on the surface, Layla and Austin seem like one of the most unlikely pairs on the planet, I think that they are good for each other. He is just what she needs to prove to her that all men aren't jerks. She is what he needs to help him through his ptsd. But don't think these two are codependent, that isn't the case at all. These two bring out the best in each other. I want to thank W.S Greer for the Southpaw movie reference. You, sir, picked the movie for tonight's movie night. And I also noticed there was a character from a previous book as well, and he did NOT give anything about the book away. I haven't read that series yet, so for that, I thank you again. My interest is very piqued though! Worth Saving is one of those books that is so much more than it appears to be.

When I read the synopsis for Worth Saving by W.S Greer I was so intrigued I couldnt wait to read more! I love when a book gets you hooked right from the beginning. My heart was breaking right from the start . I didnt know much about the author W.S, let alone that this was his first in the romance genre. This story reads like a seasoned romance writer, very well done M.S Greer First thing i loved was how perfect this title fits this story. Two people who have experienced such tragedy and abuse, can they be saved? Layla didnt grow up with the childhood that children should have . Growing up too fast and running far away from one nightmare into another. Putting up walls, Layla closed up her love life, would she find somome to open it? Captain Austin Sloan is another book boy you'll wanna take under your wing to care for and fall hard for. Going through such tragedy he needed saving. From the beginning these two magnified to eachother. Two people having feelings that were so strange to them. One scared to share secrets the other eager and nervous to take the next step. My heart ached and melted for these two. Two people who needed nothing more than eachother. Two lonely souls bound as one. I really enjoyed my time with Layla and Austin and suggest you take a journey in their world. There are many obstacles with the good and bad times. You will cry and laugh with them. I give this story 4 heartfelt stars. I'm looking foward to reading more from W.S Greer!
Worth Saving is an emotional book of self discovery for both of the main characters. Each of the main characters are battling their own demons in very different situations. Layla has never had an easy life, the things she has seen and done have scarred her in ways that no woman should be scarred. She is broken and needs someone to believe in her. Austin has had a good life with a loving home. While doing what he loves, he is struck with a tragedy that no one can understand. While they are both battling life, one chance encounter takes them on a journey of self discovery, friendship and love.
Author WS Greer brings us an emotionally packed story with this one that will keep you on the edge of your seat and begging for more. This is possibly his best writing to date. This story will pull at your heart strings and make you fall in love with romance again.
Worth Saving is the first book I have read by W.S. Greer and it was very enjoyable. Layla and Austin have been through a lot in life and both are at a kind of lost point in their lives when they meet. Not really going anywhere, but not falling too far back. The book opens with a glimpse of Layla's past. You get to see what has formed her into the person she is in the book and how strong she can be. Then we get to see what happens in Austin's present that sends him into a tailspin and his life off tracks. These two are both very strong individuals who see each other's pain and while they should be working on bettering themselves the only time they seem to be better is when they are together. Great story of trying times in two people's lives and what they must do to persevere. I look forward to reading more from W.S. Greer.
Where do I begin with this story? I guess I will start with Layla. She is a strong girl to go through all she went through and still come out on top of all of it. I loved her character and so glad she got her HEA. Now on to Austin. Wow I loved him. I loved how deeply he cared about his job and his team mates. He carries the pain of losing a team member though the whole book. I am glad he finally started to get better at the end. I love the way he was always trying to make Layla laugh and smile and all the little things he did for her so show he cared and was listening was enough for me to want him as my own BFF. Great job author! And for this to be your first contemporary romance you did amazing! Definitely a 5 star read!
loved the story line, layla had a hard time at red pony and when she met austin she knew she needed to get out, but it wasnt as easy as that, her boss had other ideas, a love story with drama too, i was cheering them on, it was funny, sad and dipped into the world of war, with austin trying to get over seeing one of his team killed before his eyes. can they help each other get over their past? well worth reading, well done w s greer
I have a good and bad review about this book. So here it is. The story it self was amazing. Both Layla and Austin's story hit home for me. Layla was so brave. She fought her way out of one hell into another. And both hells ended on her terms. So I clapped for her. I admired her. As far as Austin. His story hit hard for me because my father suffered from PTSD. No one should see what these men went trhough. The bad part for me was that the story was way too long
W.S. are you sure this is your first contemporary romance book? Cuz this was the bomb!!!!!! I loved it from the start and loved it even more at the end. I did wish there was more though cuz I loved Austin and Layla. Their stories of her past and his present were so touching. And they are so right for one another, both are broken in different ways, but the each other are the missing pieces of their "puzzle. I LOVE W.S Greer's first series but I think this is my favorite one so far!!!!!!
Great read. This has been on my kindle for a while now. I wish I had read it sooner. Austin and Layla are amazing together. Great chemistry! The secondary characters were amazing support for the main characters, and for me, that's what makes his a great read for me.
