Uncanny Avengers is the third volume of a title originated by writer Rick Remender, who wrote the first two volumes, and Uncanny X-Force, its sort-of spiritual predecessor. The concept is the same as the first two volumes, this is unity squad assembled by Captain America. In the third iteration, Rogue is promoted to field leader, in place of a geriatric Captain America who remains as cheif strategist and runs the operational aspect of the team. This brings our Southern belle to full circles; long time readers would remember than in her first appearance, she took on the Avengers as a member of the Brotherhood.
In issue one, despite this being a unity team, it remains a concept foreign to this group. Spider-Man quits in a huff, unwilling to work with Deadpool, who has become indispensable to the team because of his newfound fame and marketing billions. The team acts a third faction, with Synapse representing the Inhumans. This creates friction with Rogue, who's suffering from Terrigen poisoning thanks to the Terrigen Mists that made mutant endangered species again. Meanwhile, a new Inhuman threat sprouts in Boston.
This is essentially a Deadpool team-up book featuring the Avengers. The writer of the regular Deadpool series, Gerry Duggan is scripting this book as one, adding to the over-exposure of the Merc with the Mouth. There's a lot to be done and this reader wished there were more characters added other than the Human Torch or the newcomer Synapse. This reader felt it needed a whole lot more Avengers cache. Still, Ryan Stegman's art saves this book from becoming a total bore.
