“What started out as a star-studded vacation has turned into a sensational avalanche . . .” When private investigator Jordan James decided to join her best friend on the set of her hit television series in the Rocky Mountains, she had no idea she would become a key player in a murder mystery more suited for the big screen than the slopes. With one actor dead and a killer on the loose, can Jordan uncover the culprit before another victim makes headlines on Hollywood Minute?

Bitter Retribution is the next book in the Jordan James, PI Series. A delightful collection of stories featuring the independent young female PI. This story takes place after Jordan breaks up with her boyfriend who wants to get married and move to London. Jordan, being Jordan, spooks and says they need a break. She still believes she loves him but isn’t ready for that degree of commitment. Not having a case to work on, Jordan decides to go on holiday skiing with her best friend Heather, instead of Thanksgiving with her family. Her assistant Jon decides to come along as well. Jordan’s family tries to guilt her into coming to them instead, but she avoids the family drama. Heather has just become the head writer of a sit-com and needs the emotional support of her friend, so off they go. During the filming of the first scene, a stuntman’s ski comes off and he’s sent into a bunch of trees. He’s taken away in an ambulance and Heather asks Jordan to investigate the accident for insurance purposes. She discovers strange markings on the ski and believes it wasn’t an accident. When the stuntman dies in the hospital, it becomes a murder case, but the police aren’t immediately called because no one knows the stuntman died. The show’s producer asks Jordan to investigate and promises to tell the police if she finds any evidence of a crime. This story is well written, with twists and turns. I don’t do spoilers, so I’ll leave the details for you to read. The characters are well developed, and the sub-plot of Jordan’s love life and growing feelings of her assistant Jon lend to the building of this series. Grab a copy and your favorite beverage and curl up for a thrilling story.
I don’t know why I stopped reading this after a few pages but I picked it up again yesterday. Anyway, it got on my nerves, the characters got on my nerves but it wasn’t horrible.
Bitter Retribution is the third book in the Jordon James PI series that fully reveals Jordon’s feelings about her boyfriend Rick, and investigative partner Jon. These are characters you can love to follow because they are believable in their faults and uncertainties. The story is written in first person as many detective stories are but the characters’ interactions and conversations are so well interwoven with the heroine’s thoughts that you don’t notice. These characters talk to each other which without the heroine constantly thinking about what they are saying which is refreshing to read. The author continues the Miss Marple theme of Jordon bumbling around until she solves this case but the action and back story keep you interested from page one. If you’ve read the first two in the series you’ll want to get this one also. If you haven’t you can read this one and then get the others, but don’t plan to read this over several days. Once you start you will not put this down. Looking forward to this series continuing from this author. I was provided an ARC for an honest review.
Recently I was provided an ARC copy of Rachel Sharpe's book, BITTER RETRIBUTION. This is the third book in the Jordan James, P.I. series. The first two books are COLD AMBITION AND LOST DISTINCTION.
In BITTER RETRIBUTION, Jordan's boyfriend, Rick, moves to London for a year. Jordan decides she needs a change of scenery herself. Her best friend, Heather, is the head writer for a new television show that is filming in the Rocky Mountains. Even though Thanksgiving is coming up, Jordan, along with her partner, Jon, head for Colorado to relax and have some fun.
Jordan's vacation comes to a screeching halt when a stunt man from the show is killed on a ski run. Now Jordan and Jon have to figure out who the killer is before Heather loses her job and somebody else loses their life.
I really like the character of Jordan. She doesn't let life's situations get her down. She picks herself up and does what she feels is right. Rachel Sharpe weaves mystery, suspense, and murder into an entertaining and riveting book.
Rachel Sharpe does it again with a suspenseful read that had me turning pages to the very end. As a former skier, I loved being on the slopes knee-deep in Colorado powder and spending time in a lodge with a massive roaring fireplace, but the real story is the deadly interaction of a TV company filming a sit com at the mountain. A much-loved stunt man is killed on on a black-diamond run, and that’s not in the script. Jordan’s bff Heather is head writer, and her job is on the line. Jordan must identify the killer before there are more casualties.
Although the action did not kick in until several chapters into the book, once Jordan and arrived at the lodge it was non-stop from that point on. I was pretty sure who the killer was, but I couldn’t make a connection between the title Bitter Retribution and the motive until all the clues were tracked down and revealed. Even then, the surprise action ofsome characters kept the suspense at a peak until the last page.
