Heartache. Betrayal. Forgiveness. Redemption... It's time to head back to Magdalena, New York, and spend a little time with the people we love to love and even a few we love to hate.
Roman Ventori isn’t looking for a wife. He’s had one of those and it ended badly. He’s come back to Magdalena out of duty, not love for the town that drove him away with rumors and judgments.
Angie Sorrento is in Magdalena to do a job, not find a husband. She almost had one of those, until he dumped her days before the wedding.
Roman’s father has health problems and his last wish is to see his son settled with a wife, a child, a second chance at a life that doesn’t include city life and flashy women. There’s only one person in town who can make the impossible happen. Angelo “Pop” Benito, the Godfather of Magdalena, is the wiliest matchmaker in the Catskills and if he sets his mind to it, an old man might see his wish come true.
Oh, and remember Gloria Blacksworth’s notebook, the one filled with enough destruction to bring down Magdalena? Well, it’s causing trouble again, and this time the target is Miriam Desantro… Pop’s going to try to intervene, but he might be too late…

Mary Campisi is the author of over 40 emotion-packed novels that center around hope, redemption, and second chances.
Mary should have known she'd become a writer when at age thirteen she began changing the ending to all the books she read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, receptionist in a swanky hair salon, accounts payable clerk, and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, for her to rediscover writing. Enter a mouse-less computer, a floppy disk, and a dream large enough to fill a zip drive. The rest of the story lives on in every book she writes.
When she's not working on her craft or following the lives of five adult children, Mary's digging in the dirt with her flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking her rescue lab, Henry, or, on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with her very own hero/husband on his Ultra Limited aka Harley.
I had a little trouble following the story, but I really love ed the characters and stuck with it. I need to go back and read the previous books. Happy reading 📚!
Angie Sorrento goes to Magdalena, NY for special project, that and she didn't know the clients name. She and her best friend build tiny replicas of houses, with everything in the house! She needs to take pictures and do sketches. This time it will be Sal's Market, a family owned log cabin and another house. She's definitely not there to find a husband.
Roman Ventori came home after 14 years as his father had major heart attack. His mother begged him to come home. He has a younger sister with an a baby girl and no husband, who his father adores.
His father and best friend try to play matchmakers, hoping Roman will find a forever wife an give him a grandson.
There is so much more to this story you need to read this book.
There are more secrets in this book that are revealed. Will Roman and Angie find love?
Visitors and residents of Magdalena seem to be creating a great deal of talk...And some include combustion while others long lost love of a different sort.
Pop is up to his antics again and this time with a friend. Albeit their matchmaking scheme seems to be overrun by a woman who has unintended success.
Babies abound, as do talk of babies. Oh yes, and Kate and Rourke from the last "Second Chance," novel returned briefly...And there may be two new, or maybe four, if you count a gramps and a new addition to Chicago.
Off to the next "Second Chance" novel before we see if there is a second chance for Bree in the " Family Affair" that follows.
It’s a pity the characters, setting, and background get lost in a predictable, childish plot line with repetitive, try hard small town homilies. People live their lives according to whims, teenage style manipulations, and jumping to conclusions which could all end badly but no! Somehow, unexplained, the hero arrives at the final scene, having seen the light and it’s all happily ever after. Puerile. I’d like to see the author write something worth reading because she probably can.
There were certainly more than one secret, and a cast of characters. I had a difficult time getting into this book. At first the characters were flat, and difficult to follow who was who and why they interacted. It wasn't until half way through the book that I was able to single out Roman and Angela, and then focus only on the way the other characters interacted with them. All in all, this book and storyline were a bit disappointing.
I am falling in love with this town and its residents. Such a tight knit community, knowing too much about each other and as intrusive as ever! This is a love story wrapped in community and complexities past and present. You will read along, and get drawn right in, hoping for the fairy tale happily ever after!
Not what I usually read but it was a quick read. A bit too predictable and I am not interested in fairly graphic sexual encounters. I am sure many people will enjoy this extensive series.
Angela went to Magdalena for her job only to find Roman who came back to town to help his ailing father. Like any small town, a lot of secrets and lies were uncovered but some still hidden. This was really a good read and showed a little heartache, compassion, love and lovelost!
Both Roman and Angie have been disappointed in love and neither of them are interested in trying again. However, Roman's dad wants a grandchild and is afraid he doesn't have a lot of time left. Will the matchmaking work?
When you're dealing with love, sometimes you find what you're not even looking for. Sometimes life just surprises you. Love the town of Magdalena and all the characters who live there. This is turning out to be a wonderful series.
A Family Affair: The Secret:, Truth in Lies, Book 8
The love story of Roman and Angie. Angie return to Magdalene, NY and does not want anyone to known her mother was from there. Secret and lies will the truth come out and all will be happy or will it destroy all.
Did not care for this author’s style. At least once every chapter she would repeat all the same information as though she had to make the book so many words but didn’t actually have enough to say.
Suspense is created by deliberately keeping the reader in the dark which can be frustrating at times. And just why would someone take a stack of old magazines along on a short trip.
I love all if Mary Campisi's books but I think this has to be one of my favourites, this is Rome and Angie's story but you revisit so many of the other characters we love in this series, you also find out so many things that have shaped them into the people they are :)
I have loved the whole Family Affair adventure. It's easy to read and once u start u don't want to stop reading until the end. Well done Mary. Look forward to the next one :) x
Another great read from Mary Campisi! I never tire of reading about the folks in Magdalena and nasty old Gloria Blacksworth continues to haunt this lovely town. I do hope Tess and Cash get their baby. Maybe in the next one...
Another great book about the people of Magdalena. The story is full of love, hope, family and second chances. Pop Benito was up to his usually antics and it was surprising to see Natalie Servetti actually helping someone. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
