Inferno Falls #3

The Second Chance

Rate this book
He left her alone. Now he’s back … but too much has changed.

Maya grew up with a big heart and even bigger dreams. She never thought she’d end up a single mother spending her whole life where she grew up—the small town of Inferno Falls. But things didn’t work out the way she thought. Grady, her high school love, moved away and left her alone to raise her daughter before the ink dried on their diplomas. Eight years later, Maya’s struggling to make ends meet. And when life gets too tough, she heals the void inside in the only way she knows … whether it’s right or wrong.

But then Grady returns. He’s finally grown homesick after nearly a decade of wandering America, seeing sights and having adventures like Maya always dreamed of—but could never reach for. And Maya holds out hope—more than hope, a need—that Grady is coming home for her, too. It could be just like old times, if she can keep a grip on her bad habits for long enough. Maybe she can finally have the man she’s always wanted, and Kylie can have the father she’s always needed.

Many of us get second chances, but never more than three strikes.

Maya makes the dangerous mistake of assuming everything is just the way it was before, despite the years that have passed. When Grady only wants to make sure they’re not moving too quickly, Maya sees rejection and disaster looms. Rather than preserving a perfect memory, it seems the years have changed them both too much, perhaps, to heal the past. But to earn the love and happiness she’s hunted for so long, Maya won’t merely need to learn to accept Grady … and will have to learn to accept herself, first.

I love to write stories with characters that feel real enough to friend on Facebook, or slap across the face. I write to make you feel, think, and burn with the thrill that can only come from getting lost in the pages. I love to write unforgettable characters who wrestle with life's largest problems. My books may always end with a Happily Ever After, but there will always be drama on the way there.

The Second Chance brings us the third and final book in the Inferno Falls series. The story of Maya and Grady. Two lovers torn apart by circumstances and brought back together just to find that the connection is still just as strong.

Maya as a single mom working as waitress to make ends meet has herself a little problem. A bit of an addiction to gritty sex. To feel like being something more than just a mother. To feeling wanted and desired. To be used. Maybe it’s just lust or maybe it’s her own form of punishment.

Grady never was one that was bound to stick around. Wanting to travel, see the world - even if that meant walking away. But when circumstances brings him back to Inferno Falls, he knows he has to see Maya. He knows he can’t avoid her. Even it if just brings everything back to the surface.

I think what I enjoyed the most about The Second Chance was that it was not predictable. The story took a twist that I did not see coming and it really made me reevaluate my first impressions of all the characters. Another solid addition to this series and although after reading The Boss’s Daughter, I really wanted Bridget’s story – I am glad that her book will happen, but under a new series title.

I recieved this ARC for an honest review.

Another great book from Aubrey Parker! I was afraid this one was going to be a bit predictable and I'm glad to say it wasn't. Being a single parent myself, I felt this book a bit more. The author did a really good job putting you in Maya's shoes and the more I read the more I needed to get to the ending to see how this turned out. The author also did a great job leaving you at a point in the end making sure you want to continue on with the next book. Their was closure but also a cliffhanger at the end.

4.5 STARS

Nothing is what it seams with this book, believe me. The Second Chance is an amazing story, which is well-written, unpredictable, intiguing, captivating, unexpected twists and turns, and much more.

What and amazing ride. I never wanted to throw my Kindle away so much as I did with this book. However, Aubrey Parker did a great job because I was more intrigued than anything though, and wanted to find out how much crazier Maya was, and how much more my hate for Grady would increase. So, when I got farther into the story all I could said was, and I quote: "WTF".

You'll get a conclusion to Maya's & Grady's story, but be prepared for a shocking cliffhanger that you never see coming.

Each book on this series can be read as stand-alone. I highly recommend The Second Chance by Aubrey Parker and any other book written by her.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was so excited to read Maya's and Grady's story. There were definitely some unexpected twists I didn't see coming, at all! The emotional journeys Maya went through in each part of her life felt real, raw, painful, and pulled at my heartstrings. The strength of her character was genuine. I was rooting for her at every turn. Grady's character was equally believable and genuine. I was impressed with the way these two dealt with the things that they faced in this, and wanted happiness so badly for both of them. The HOT scenes in this were perfect! I continue to be hooked on Inferno Falls, and want the next book already.

Aubrey Parker does it again, I like a romance book every once in a while but I could read books like this all day, it's more drama with a touch of romance... It's both sad and exciting I really liked Grady and Maya's story... A high school love gone wrong because of one mistake made, but Neither Grady or Maya are saints, each has their problems they must forgive the past and overcome the present mistakes too... Overall just a well written book..The ending does have a cliff hanger but good new is there's a new spin off series that clears up the cliff hanger from what I understand the first book in the next series is about Brigitte she's Brandon's sister so should be good I always like the spit fire she is.

I like Aubrey’s writing. However I don’t like that the characters don’t get together until the last chapter!! It drives me nuts.
There should be a little more of them being together I think.

4.5 -- Guilt -- stars

Grady’s uncle dies and Grady decides to go back to Inferno Falls after travelling for 10 years. He hopes to see Maya again and he wants to be a couple with her again. Maya feels the same and they meet each other at a bar to talk. The next day they meet again, but this time with Mackenzie, Maya’s daughter. This ‘date’ goes good and they will see each other again soon. Maya hopes Grady will stay in Inferno Falls to have a future together, but Grady wants to travel. Will he stay or will he go?

Both characters carry a lot of guilt. Grady regrets leaving Maya, but he felt like he didn’t have another choice. He really dreamed of leaving Inferno Falls and to see the world. That was Maya’s dream also, but one mistake changed her life. Maya regrets this mistake. She hasn’t stop thinking about Grady all those years, just like Grady thought of her. She hoped that he would come back and that they would become a couple again soon, but Grady stays away. Maya is a waitress at the Nosh Pit and isn’t rich, but has a good life with her daughter and she never has to ask financial help from her parents. She is a strong woman. Mackenzie is a smart child and had to grow up fast.

I liked the book a lot and it is a great addition of this series. I really loved Maya and Grady, and even the secondary characters. I also loved the mystery at the end and the twists I didn’t except. All those things deserve 5 stars, but there was one thing that made me give this book 4 stars. There were too much inner thoughts and barely any conversations. I just wished they would sit down and talk about the past, the years they were apart and what they want in the future. The book also ended too soon. It did end with a cliffhanger about a secondary character and I can’t wait to read the spin-off series! It sounds very good!

Maya and Grady's story is another wonderful book in an amazing series. Not only are we given the background story of these characters, Aubrey does it in such a way that these characters feel real and genuine...like they could be friends in the reader's everyday life. Maya and Grady were together many years back....he left...and now he's back! One problem with series books is that they can sometimes become predictable as the series progresses...but this series definitely does not have that problem! There are so many twists and turns in Maya and Grady's story that I had to continue on to see what happened next...even if that meant staying up all night to finish the book!!

Aubrey's writing continues to keep me entertained and fully invested into all of the characters of Inferno Falls. She has mastered the art of giving the reader enough closure to feel satisfied, while giving enough of a cliffhanger to keep the reader wanting more. I can't wait to see what happens next in The Burning Offer.

Loved this book!

Understandable struggles Maya goes through as a woman and as a mother. Like some teens out there Maya never had chance to experience what most young girls get to experience college/university hanging with your girlfriends etc she went from teen to mother and struggled to find herself ... Who is Maya?
Grady what tonsay about Grady I was not pleased about him at the beginning especially as he bailed on Maya and their baby. Fortunately something happens (don't want to give too much) and he redeems himself. Let's just say the "people" Maya met along her journey were not very nice 😕

Would totally recommend this book! Yes it's a standalone in the inferno series but i think you get the full experience with all characters if you read all 3

I can't get enough of Inferno Falls series. I really wanted to know about Maya's story and I wasn't disappointed. As I was reading I was trying to figure out how the story was going and I am glad I was wrong. I'm happy it wasn't predictable and it went in a completely different direction. I love how Maya is with Grady and after all those years the chemistry is still there. I can't wait to read what happens in book 4 because I need answers lol. Really enjoying this series and all the characters especially how this book ended. It just makes me want to know what will happen next

I enjoyed is book but I was left feeling like I needed more closure with them. There was so much history there and Maya had so much inner turmoil throughout the book that I wanted there to be more! I liked it overall though
