Summer is finally here and Geography teacher Sara Larson has exactly one month to find the perfect date for the wedding of a high school rival. The odds seem stacked against her, but the last thing she wants is to sit at the kids’ table again. Or even worse, the singles’ table. While trudging through an assortment of certified losers, Sara fights her attraction towards Ian, the irresistible guy next door.
Art teacher Ian McBride has a dream of opening his own gallery, but for now he’s focused on sculpting a gift for his grandparents’ fiftieth anniversary and enjoying a relaxing summer. However, Ian is blind-sided when crazy, beautiful Sara and her giant dog move in next door and rock his world. Too bad she wants nothing to do with him.
How can Sara avoid the attraction that sizzles between them and stick to her rule of not dating neighbors? As far as Ian’s concerned, the prince Sara is looking for is right under her nose. And one kiss just might change everything.
KISSING FROGS is a fun, fast-paced romantic comedy guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Let the fun begin!
Rich Amooi is a Taleflick Discovery Winner, Readers' Favorite Gold Medal Recipient, Holt Medallion Finalist, and the Amazon Bestselling author of 24 romantic comedies, including It's Not PMS, It's You, Dying to Meet You, Royal Crush, and Men or Paws.
A former radio personality and wedding DJ, Rich now writes romantic comedies full-time in San Diego, California, and is happily married to a kiss monster imported from Spain. Rich believes in public displays of affection, silliness, infinite possibilities, donuts, gratitude, laughter, and happily ever after.
I try to tell myself I'm not sexist. Then I notice that most of the romances I read are written by women. This is an embarrassment because I was a Women's Libber from the 1970's. I brought my kids up to believe boys and girls were equal in all things. I even joined the military and became a plumber. But some things just slip under the radar. So after reading this wonderfully romantic book in by favorite genre, comedy, I will keep my mind open for more of these. So keep writing them, fella's! Our heroine has just moved into the perfect house. It's close to her work and has lovely shops within walking distance. But then she meets the handsome neighbor next door. Which wouldn't be a problem except what happens if they have a relationship that ends badly? It's like dating someone at work. Ugh! So she sets out to find a date while trying to just remain friends with the neighbor. Unfortunately he thinks they need to try out this relationship stuff and her pushing him away is sad. Lovely story with wonderful characters! I will read many, many more by this amazing author!
This is my first book by this author. I was in the mood for something fun, light hearted and flirty and this story was exactly that. I laughed out loud and that doesn't happen very often for me when reading. Clearly I was amused. It was a fantastic diversion.
Last year I met Rich Amooi at an RBC meeting. It was a quick intro, and then, as I am prone to do, I forgot about Rich and our meeting (no offense, Rich). Well, earlier this month I got an email from Rich to see if he could plan any activities around Recycle Bookstore. After a few back-and-forths, we got him scheduled to do a book signing during the Campbell Farmers Market on June 4. As you know, we have a lot of authors come to Recycle during the Farmers Market. Downtown Campbell gets super busy on those Sunday mornings. So, case closed, right? Not so fast. I got a hold of one of Rich's books (Rich, did I buy it? Or did you give it to me? I can't remember). Now you know I have read a whole bunch of very good books recently. And they've all been contemporary or literary or women's fiction (I'm not crazy about that last classification; but that's what the publishing experts call it). Rich writes romantic comedies. The one I decided to try is called Kissing Frogs. It's definitely not a genre I have read before. But based on KF, I will be reading more! I really enjoyed this. What did I like about Kissing Frogs?
1. It is laugh-out-loud funny. I'm not going to quote any of the passages. Humor is usually something that you find funny in the moment. The retelling doesn't normally work. Just take my word for it. You will be laughing. 2. The humor does not make the romance any less romantic. I definitely cared about Sara and Ian. And the book still follows the "rules" of a romance. 3. Almost all of the story takes place in Campbell. And a whole bunch of eateries (and drink-eries) that I have frequented are mentioned (including Orchard Valley Coffee, where we had our Vanessa Diffenbaugh RBC meeting). 4. There is one non-restaurant spot that is mentioned that I kind of enjoyed. It's called - wait for it...wait for it...) - RECYCLE BOOKSTORE! That was way cool. 5. Sara has a series of blind dates that are an absolute crack-up. Since the last time I dated anyone other than my wife was around 1968, I don't have any current experience with blind dates. So I'm guessing that these are at least slightly exaggerated. But maybe they're not. 6. As I tend to do (see my reviews of the Jennifer Skully/Bella Andre series, The Billionaire Mavericks), I love older people. Ian's grandparents are great. 7. Even with all of the comedy, Rich was able to force a few tears and chills from me. I know it's not that hard, but it still happened. In fact, there was one scene where I started to laugh and then realized it was not a laughing matter. I immediately came out with a double "Oh, no!" 8. I loved the cover (see below). 9. I definitely connected personally to a few of the goings-on. In one scene, Sara's dog, who goes crazy when she hears the word "cookie," does some damage when Sara accidentally says the word at a very wrong time. We have friends who used to have a dog that did the same thing. Somebody (I won't mention his/my name) used to say that word out loud whenever we were at their house. The dog would then run to the place where his treats were kept. It's a miracle that we're still friends. And there's another scene where Ian's father calls from Florence where he is standing in from of The David, going on and on about what a magnificent piece of art it is. I was nodding my head. I was blown away when I saw The David. It brought tears to my eyes.
That's about it. Kissing Frogs is a very fun, enjoyable, and quick read. All of those things, in fact, have led me to ask Rich to be one of our RBC authors. In fact, because it's such a quick read, I am bringing him to the RBC in October. We've already got Sheldon Siegel coming, but that one's on a Sunday. Rich's book gives our members who can't do a weekend book club meeting the opportunity to still come that month. Whether you attend or not, though, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy Kissing Frogs.
From the opening pages, I was chuckling away and was swept away in the story of Sara and Ian. Amooi never fails to disappoint in his stories, he will make me smile, laugh out loud (and a lot) and make my eyes leak. His books really do fill me with so much joy and I love how true love runs in his books.
So much happens in Kissing Frogs yet it was over way too quickly. I felt like I have opened the book and the next thing it was over! I mean how dare it. This is how easy it is to fall in love with Amooi’s writing and characters. Whenever I read one of his books I am instantly cheered up, they get me out of a funk and they make me believe again in love and happiness (bit deep there!).
It is a classic tale of misconceptions and a lot of crazy dates! Could 1 girl have the worse luck on her dates? But all the while she is crazy about her neighbour but her past is preventing her from making a go of it. Plus why is Ian always out with a different girl, a different younger girl, this could only mean trouble.
One thing you can’t deny despite all the things that could be keeping them apart is their chemistry. It is electric! Plus their banter had me chuckling to myself. I kinda guessed how the story would end, but I don’t care, Amooi makes me care about the characters and I just sat there smiling. The one thing I know is once I have finished one of his books, I know the characters are safe and happy and most importantly in love!
As always Amooi hits the nail on the head from the woman’s point of view, but in this book, we get the man’s point of view too. The chapters flit between Sara and Ian, same situation but we flit into their heads as if we are the ones living the situation as them.
One of my favourite characters in this book…Kili….you need to read the book to find out why!
It is definitely another cute love story from Amooi and one to enjoy with a glass of wine (or tea) sit back and immerse yourself into. Even though it’s over 200 pages you won’t feel it and it will be over before you know it!
This was the 3rd book Amooi wrote and it is like he has been crafting for years!
Sweet book. Easy read. Loved that it was set locally with references to places I see every week. My favorite parts were the sections with the "grandpeople".
This was a fun little read. While it may not have been all that impressive, I still had a rather good time. The main characters really annoyed me at a lot of points, their stubbornness going a tad too far. Plus, I thought the erm, high point for drama just didn't hit that well. It happened and while one character was thinking about it way to much, the other was kinda like "huh, that happened, better go make amends". Not to mention Sara's 'baggage' that played a part in the dispute was never actually brought up to Ian.
Overall, I had a good time, it was pretty easygoing. I definitely don't think this is one of Amooi's best works though.
I loved this book! At first, I was reading it because my friend wrote it...and pretty soon, I found myself thoroughly engaged and loving the characters and the challenges they face in their quest for love. The writing is great—each POV is consistent and believable, and the pacing of the story is spot on. I read this book in two sittings and highly recommend it if you love cute, humorous, feel-good stories.
I don’t believe there was anything in this book I disliked. Ian’s sense of humor and personality made him my new favorite male character. Another winner for Rich!!! I may end up being a stalker fan lol.
If you enjoy romantic comedy... read this one and more from Rich.
I love watching romantic comedy films, but never considered reading a romance novel until someone hit me over the head with the suggestion. I tried and quickly dropped the Outlander novels, but Rich Amooi's books were suggested as something you'd enjoy if you liked watching You've Got Mail, which sounded exactly perfect. Yes it was light and no, it wasn't a surprise that everyone got together in the end just like they were supposed to, but it was a lot of fun and unlike a film I could enjoy it without getting teased by my spouse, who'd rather watch something terrifying and noisy.
This is a light-hearted, funny, sweet, and adorable story! Sara is looking for a date to her old high school rivals wedding. She doesn't want to show up alone and get stuck at the kiddie table again. She has one month to find a date to the wedding so she tries some online dating which leads to some hilarious dating disasters. All the while, her handsome and single next door neighbor, Ian, catches her attention. Ian is everything Sara looks for in a man, he's gorgeous, funny, kind, loves animals and he's a creative artist. They have a lot in common and amazing chemistry, the only problem is that Sara refuses to date a neighbor again after her last neighbor-turned-boyfriend ended in disaster. Ian isn't going to give up so easily and he knows that there could be something great between them, he just needs to convince Sara to take a chance. I really loved this story. This author always delivers funny and charming characters that you can't help but fall in love with. This was a quick read and I couldn't put it down once I started. I really enjoyed this fun romance and recommend it to anyone who loves a light-hearted and fun romance! I can't wait to see what this author writes next!
This is one of the cutest books I've read lately. It's hilarious and upbeat.
Sara moves into a town home after a breakup and realizes sharing a wall is not enjoyable. Especially with a neighbor that likes to make a lot of noise on her sleep in late weekends. When she has had enough, she decides to go give her a piece of her mind.
When Ian opens up his door, Sara is struck speechless but the hot man in front of her. Even her dog is smitten.
They have a very hilarious relationship. They banter constantly. Through this, Sara needs to find a date to a friends wedding. With no luck because she ends up on going on dates with completely ridiculous men, she finally gives up and comes to an agreement with Ian about being his pretend girlfriend. So they start practicing.
First practice, meeting his "grandpeople". Who are they old people that are in a marriage that you strive to have. And of course, they are funny as well. And so romantic.
Of course they are some sad parts, but warranted.
In this book, there are characters that are so out there and crazy that keep you laughing your ass off. I will recommend this to anybody looking for a laugh. It was awesome!!!
This book had me laughing from the very first sentence. I loved the humor in this book. The story is about a woman, Sara, who is the last of her bunch of friends that is still single. She's just received that last wedding invitation. While she's in the process of trying to find some guy to take to the wedding in some hilarious on-line dating, she's also feuding with her new next door neighbor. He's annoying as hell, but really gorgeous. He also doesn't put up with the crud she dishes out without shoveling it back at her. He is also sympathetic to her dating dilemma. Is he really a toad, or is he just the frog she's been looking for? The performance by Ryan Kennard Burke was outstanding! I totally loved this audio book! I received this audio book in exchange for an honest review.
I have devoured all of Rich Amooi's romantic comedy novels, and I think this is my favourite (so far). Sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince. Sara Has found the frogs alright, but will she find her prince? (Of course she will, this is a rom com, it has to end happily ever after!)
I work in a school, so I particularly related to the two main characters, who were school teachers. I could imagine being friends with both of them. I was completely engrossed in this story and finished it in one day. Loved it!
You know those romcoms you happen to come across on TV and you just watch them coz there is nothing else to watch and they turn out to be a sweet time pass and you come out feeling all good and mushy at the end of it.. that is exactly what this book was! I got it for free from Amazon (Boksbub informed me it was free) and that is the only reason i picked it up.. And I'm happy i did! I needed a sweet and simple book right now. Best part was when the DJ started playing A Thousand Years.. sigh!
This was such an easy book to read. Ian and Sara are so entertaining and likable from the beginning. Who doesn't love a story with a dog in it, especially a two hundred pound Saint Bernard who eats plants!
If you are looking for romance with laugh out loud moments, this book is for you.
This is the perfect book of you are looking for a lighthearted story to break in between some more emotional ones. I really loved everything about this one from start to finish.
This was a super cute read. I just loved Kili. I can just picture all the antics she is doing. I laughed out loud more then once reading this book. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a great read and a good laugh
She is trying to be a good neighbor but he is so attractive and she cant hide her feelings. He is uncertain and wants to be her friend. Full of laughter, sarcasm and friendship filled with entertaining surprises great read.
A gentle, touching read full of humour and fun characters. I laughed out loud at the internet dates and the antics of the dog. I just didn't want it to end.
Sara has just moved into a house, when in the early morning hours, she is woken up by noises coming from the neighbor on the other side of the wall. After determining that pounding on the wall was not going to put an end to the noise, she got out of bed and went to confront the new neighbor. But before she could say anything to the neighbor, her dog had helped herself to the plants in the planter just outside the door.
The next day, more noise emits from the neighbor. Sara makes her way over to the neighbor's front door and realizes the plants have been replaced. The dog notices as well and helps himself to the plants again.
After many failed attempts at dating, in search of a date for her friends wedding, the neighbor agrees to 'pretend' date Sara. Except he wasn't pretending. He convinces her that they need to attend his grandparent's anniversary party, using the ploy that if they can convince them they are dating, they would be able to convince the friends at the wedding.
Just before the anniversary party takes place, Sara's dog strikes again. This time, knocking over the priceless handmade lighthouse that Ian (the neighbor) had created as a gift for his grandparents. Ian shouts at the dog and Sara. Sara gets upset and leaves. She drives three hours one way to buy the only known replica of said lighthouse for Ian's grandparents. She delivers the gift and takes off for a few days to clear her head.
In the meantime, Ian scrambles to find the perfect gift for his grandparents. While at the party, he is reminded about true love.
Sara returns from her trip because another friend tells her she is getting married and she needs her to be there as her maid of honor. Turns out Sara's friend is marrying Ian's best friend. The first thing she notices is a For Sale sign out front of Ian's place. He has moved. During the wedding reception, Ian and Sara have a conversation and all is well again.
This was a quick and easy read. Well written with just the right amount of humor.

Sara moves into a new apartment where she meets her new neighbor, Ian. They start off rocky because he wakes her up so early on a a weekend. When Sara goes to confront Ian about him waking her up her dog, Kili, eats his plant that sits in a planter box in front of his door. On top of her neighbor being hot Sara refuses to date him because of a previous relationship that started off the same way. She goes on these dates trying to find someone to go to a wedding with her and disaster follows her from one date to another. The shenanigans that comes with each of her dates are to comical to believe but they make you laugh just the same. Eventually Ian offers himself to play the boyfriend and introduces her to his grandparents. Things go sideways for awhile but everything comes to a HEA.
Sara needs a wedding date, so she spends her time on the internet dating scene “kissing frogs.” This seemed very similar to Ellie’s experience in Five Minutes Late with the disastrous blind dates. Although some dates were enjoyable, they weren’t as ridiculously funny as Ellie’s dates.
So, anyway, Sara is “dating” and can’t seem to ignore the noise from her sexy new neighbor. What could he be doing in there? But there’s something about Ian that’s so nice, especially when he saves her from one of her dates.
There’s instant chemistry between the two, and the love story played out in the same old pattern. This was an okay story, but it didn’t impress me as much as the first book.
This is such a fun and sweet story. Sara is a teacher off for the summer. She and her dog move to a new apartment where she is rudely awakened by a strange noise. It is coming from her neighbor’s apartment. She bangs on the door. A man without a shirt opens it and he is covered in …. Mud? This early in the morning? WEIRD!!! Sara needs a date for her friend’s wedding. So she searches on a dating site. These are so much fun. Where did these men come from? I laughed a lot in this book. I applaud the author for making this a humorous story that was believable. I would like to find out what else this author has written.
This book, was amazing. Maybe because I'm a teacher and this got me feeling some type of way, but this was seriously one of the best books I've read. Amooi dose something where he build characters that are so well developed, and so relatable, the idea just brings you and doesn't let you put the book down. I finished this book in a day and like an hour of the next day, I couldn't stop reading. The background of this story is Sara moved into a new house and heard a loud banging, now I know what you're thinking ( I was thinking the same thing) but that's not it. When she storms over to his house to see what it is, she's surprised by this beautiful man, Ian, who's standing there. They form a 'friendship' at first, but there's underlying feelings that are so obvious to everyone! Sara is on a hunt for a date for a wedding, goes out with a LOT of duds (which is very entertaining) and thinks about Ian he entire time, she will not date him due to a reason that is explained later in the book. Sara even lets one of her friends go out with him, hilarity ensues, and that friend ends up leaving Ian for his friend and Ian is left wandering around, all while thinking about Sara. In the end, there's some chaos, a misunderstanding, a fight, and enjoyable wedding, and the book was amazing! I don't want to give ALL the spoilers away!

Kissing Frogs - PG13 Violence: none Language: <60 including deity Sex: no sex
I think I would like to meet Rich Amooi in person because if he's anything like the characters he writes he's got to be extremely humorous--just the kind of person my husband and I like to hang with. This book does not disappoint!
