Finding the Incas' lost City of Gold would be the discovery of a lifetime. But failing could mean her death…

Archaeologist Matthew Connor and his friends Cal and Robyn are finally home after a dangerous retrieval expedition in India. While they succeeded in obtaining the priceless Pandu artifact they sought, it almost cost them their lives. Still, Matthew is ready for the next adventure. Yet when new intel surfaces indicating the possible location of the legendary City of Gold, Matthew is hesitant to embark on the quest.

Not only is the evidence questionable but it means looking for the lost city of Paititi far away from where other explorers have concentrated their efforts. As appealing as making the discovery would be, it’s just too risky. But when Cal’s girlfriend, Sophie, is abducted by Matthew’s old nemesis who is dead-set on acquiring the Pandu statue, Matthew may be forced into action. Saving Sophie’s life means either breaking into the Royal Ontario Museum to steal the relic or offering up something no one in his or her right mind would refuse—the City of Gold.

Now Matthew and his two closest friends have to find a city and a treasure that have been lost for centuries. And they only have seven days to do it. As they race against the clock, they quickly discover that the streets they seek aren’t actually paved with gold, but with blood.

I love treasure hunting and am very excited to travel to South America to search for the Lost City of Gold with Carolyn Arnold.

Matthew was the reason Cal was the Indiana Jones type, a modern day treasure hunter. An adrenaline junkie and thrill seeker. Danger is part of his game.

Matthew, and his friends, Cal and Robyn…could danger have followed them home?

Sophie has ‘feelings’ and they are not good ones.

Have you heard of the Lost City of Gold? Carolyn Arnold made me curious enough, I had to Google Patiti, Bolivia and El Dorado. Check it out for yourself.

Due to circumstances beyond their control, their journey is thrown together, with less research and planning than the other adventures they had been on.

Danger looms from more than the jungle.

She came from his past and all their lives are on the line.

A cross between Indiana Jones and the Lost World, without the dinosaurs, add a kidnapping, and a lot of action and adventure in the jungle and I find it impossible to go wrong with City of Gold by Carolyn Arnold. I loved the book and I am super excited to have my hands on the next adventure in the series, The Secret of the Last Pharoah.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of City of Gold by Carolyn Arnold.

This book just didn't do it for me and by the end I was sorry I'd spent the time on it. This is NOT anything like realistic in characterization or actions of the characters, and was written in a fairly simplistic style. I felt like I was reading a bad Hallmark movie, but kept thinking it had to get better. The word 'sneer' must have been a new vocab word it was used so much. Could have been a good story if by Clive Cussler or other true adventure writers. I'm not going to read the sequal.

When it comes to FBI/Police procedurals, Carolyn Arnold is the bomb. I enjoy her writing style and she knows how to hook her readers and keep them entertained. I never knew she wrote adventure stories until I came across The City of Gold. When I realised she was the author, I was excited and the blurb confirmed my decision to read this book.

The prologue, which set the pace for the rest of the story, was suspenseful, adrenaline pumping and nail biting. From that moment I knew this would be a page-turner, Ms. Arnold did not disappoint. The story took a few turns, which I never saw coming.

City of Gold tells the story of Matthew Conner, an archaeologist, and his treasure hunting team, which is made of his friend Robyn, and Cal. Robyn, is the curator of one of the largest museums in Canada and Cal is a travel photographer. They recently returned from India where they barely escaped with their lives when retrieving the priceless Pandu. However, someone else also has their eyes on the Pandu. This person was ruthless and desperate, which was demonstrated when they kidnapped Cal’s girlfriend. Providing the Pandu was out of the question, so to secure her release, the legendary City of Gold was used as leverage.

Their journey in search of the legendary city was filled with danger at every turn. Not only did they have to deal with the dangers from the jungle, they also had to contend with the human kind. What made this adventure nail-biting was a life depended on them finding this city. While reading I had so many questions. Would they find the city? Did it really exist and will they make it out of the jungle alive?

I enjoyed history about the Incan civilization. The history of the South American Indians have always fascinated me so the information provided in this story fed my fascination. A lot of research went into this aspect of the story, which is one of the things I expect from the author. Her attention to detail was impressive. Her descriptions were vivid, which made me feel as if I were a part of the adventure.

I loved the execution of the secondary story, which involved the kidnapping. Sophie, in spite of her fears, demonstrated bravery throughout the whole ordeal. I loved how both stories came together to create an exciting tale.

The characters came alive in this story of adventure. Some I found likable, some I tolerated, and some I disliked. The relationships portrayed were complicated, which added to the realism of the story. Matthew and his father had unresolved issues, which made their relationship complex. This complexity spilled over into his relationship with the women in his life. The secondary characters played their part in making the story exciting, riveting and adventurous.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Reasons you should read this book:
1. You are a fan of Indiana Jones.
2. You enjoy stories filled with adventure and suspense.

This was an enjoyable read and I am looking forward to Matthew Connor’s next adventure

It's an entertaining adventure story if you're willing to ignore the clichéd characters and questionable motivations. For me, after all the heavy and depressing stuff I've been reading lately, this light read was a welcome change, but I don't think I'll continue with the series.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. I am a new Carolyn Arnold fan and I'm enjoying getting to know her different characters. I usually read one series at a time, but somehow it hasn't worked that way this time. The first book of hers I read was Remnants, which was not the first in the Brandon Fisher FBI series, but I plan on reading the rest of that series. The second one I read was The Day Job is Murder which is the first in the McKinley Mysteries and I'll be reading the second book in that series soon. City of Gold is the first in the Matthew Connor Adventure series and it's my favorite Carolyn Arnold book so far.

I like Carolyn Arnold's writing style. The dialogue is enjoyable, witty, and her descriptions make things come alive. They can be a little lengthy occasionally but that's just my personal preference. There are a couple of twists which make the book even more exciting.

The characters are engaging and their relationships are complex. Matthew's relationships seem to be the most complex, not only with his father but with the women in his life.

City of Gold is full of adventure and suspense. It definitely reminds me of Indiana Jones and I love those movies. Along with the adventure, though, back home is a detective doing solid police work. I hope he'll be in future Matthew Connor books.

I definitely recommend City of Gold for anyone who enjoys adventure and suspense and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I remember going to the theatre to see Indiana Jones when it first came out (I know, I’m giving away my age), and it quickly became one of my favorite movies. It was so exciting and Harrison Ford was perfect for the part. So, when I started reading this book, I kept seeing Indie as the main character, Matthew Connor.

How couldn’t I? The book starts out with him and his two friends running through India. They have found the coveted Pandu artifact and are being chased by bad guys. They make it out alive and come back home to Ontario, where the statue is put into the Royal Ontario Museum’s collection.

As they are settling in, Matthew's friend and photographer on their archaeological expeditions, Cal’s girlfriend is kidnapped. The kidnapper demands the Pandu in exchange for her life.

Because the artifact is already in the possession of the museum and is too risky to try to steal, Matthew suggests a different reward. Paititi, the fabled City of Gold. Can Matthew, Robyn and Cal lead the kidnapper’s goons to the City of Gold, with little to go on in the way of location? You have to read it to find out.

This was a fast-paced and exciting read. With unexpected things happening all the way through, this was a difficult book to put down. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

If you’re a fan of adventure and archaeology, you definitely want to read this one.

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

City of Gold is the first book in the new Matthew Conner Adventure series. Matthew (an archeologist), Robyn (a museum curator) & Cal (a travel photographer) are friends and form a team of treasure hunters. They are thrill seekers to the extreme, and seem to thrive in dangerous situations. This trip has very high stakes, their friend Sophie is being held hostage until they produce the treasures from the fabled city of Paititi. Is it even real? Or just a legend? They have a lot riding on it being real.

I have read and enjoyed Carolyn Arnold’s Brandon Fisher FBI series, so I suspected that this new series would not let me down – I was correct. She does in depth research for all her stories. She pays attention to each & every detail. Whenever I pick up one of her books, I know I will learn something, as well as, be entertained. Her characters and their relationships are well thought out and developed.

This story is fast paced and action packed, the author’s descriptions are so vivid. At times, I felt my adrenaline pumping as if I was actually part of the team searching for the lost city.

If you like action, adventure, archeology or history, you will love this book. I am (im)patiently looking forward to book 2 😊

I was always a fan of the very first Indiana Jones movie. As more were made, they got too hard to really believe in but Carolyn Arnold has restored my faith in that archaeology/mystery genre with her Matthew Connor Adventure Series. While I have long like Arnold's Brandon Fisher FBI and Madison Knight books, I was hesitant that the love would carry over to an adventure series like this. I was so wrong. Arnold has all of the locations down. Her descriptions of the areas Connor and friends are in amazes me. They made me feel like I was there.

The characters in this new series are amazing. There is everything from romantic/sexual tension to deep friendships to family dynamics. All of this runs in the background of treasure hunting. I know that a true archaeologist would not call it treasure hunting but these are much more fascinating than the average dig.

I definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to the next in the series. I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

If this novel isn't made into a movie I will be VERY surprised!! It definitely reminded me of Indiana Jones (one of my favorite movie series of all times!!) There are enough thrills and twists and turns to keep the attention of any lover of adventure thrillers. I also enjoyed reading about the history of the ancient Inca civilization. I read this novel in one sitting--no way was I going to put it down!!

Carolyn Arnold is one author that I will be continually following--yes--she is that good!!

Great adventure story!

Matthew Connor, son of the mayor of Toronto, has a secret he's keeping from Dear Old Dad. He's a treasure hunter, not merely the archaeologist his father thinks he is. And he's on a mission to find the stuff of legends, lost City of Gold. I'm not saying whether he finds it or not, but I will tell you that this is a thrilling story, complete with jungle adventures, murder, and a hostage crisis. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Carolyn Arnold knows how to tell a gripping tale and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

City of Gold is unlike Carolyn Arnold’s previous books.

Previous books I have read were mysteries that required being solved.

City of Gold is a kidnapping, a treasure hunt, and a hostage situation all in one. We know all the key players but we have no idea what surprises lurk

While it lacked the “who done it” mystery, this suspenseful adventure was a great read! I cannot wait to read what treasure seeking adventure we go on next!

City of Gold definitely has enough of a thrill to keep you engrossed and engaged!

This book was so much fun! It's an intriguing treasure hunt, but on the lighter side. It was an easy read, although it could've moved faster in some parts.

I can't wait to see more from this wonderful group of friends! They love treasure hunting, but they also couldn't or wouldn't do it without each other. Their histories and the way they work together is a great twist.

I definitely recommend this story for an adventurous fun read.

Matthew Conner is a treasure hunter, kind of like a modern day Indiana Jones. Not many people know this. Matthew credits his discoveries to Gideon Barnes, an imaginary persona that he invented to keep his identity secret. His father is the mayor of Toronto, and Matthew knows he wouldn’t accept such a dangerous occupation for his only son. Matthew covers his time away as being on archeological digs. He always includes his friends Robyn and Cal. But it seems that Matthew‘s past has come back to haunt him when Cal’s girlfriend Sophie is kidnapped and Matthew is ordered to hand over his latest find. Now that the museum owns it, Matthew has to offer up something better, like the elusive City of Gold. But does it actually exist? And if so, can he find it in time to save Sophie?

It is obvious of the research that went into this story. I’m not very interested in Mayan and Incan history, but I was fascinated the more I read. The description of the flora had me feeling like I was actually there. Even though Ms. Arnold’s books are usually detective stories, I think she did an outstanding job with this one.

I loved it! I'm a big fan of archaeology thrillers and novels like Indiana Jones, National Treasure etc. City of Gold did not disappoint. I really enjoy Carolyn Arnold's writing style and the way she writes her characters. Matthew Connor is someone you are immediately intrigued with and want to learn more about. He is bold and daring while also being someone who will fight for those he cares about.

This story takes us on an adventure searching for long lost relics and items of the past. Aside from the typical romance often found in archaeology thrillers, we see friendships that are put to the test. Matthew, Cal and Sophie are challenged individually and as friends throughout the entire story. There are twists and turns that will keep you on your toes and ready to turn the page for more!

This is Adventure 1 in the series and I can't wait to read the rest!!!

This is an entertaining, action packed adventure with the plus of police procedure. My rating 4.25.

I generally begin my reviews with a synopsis of the story. However, in this instance it would be repetitive of the blurb which covers the summary very nicely. There are some interesting personal dynamics and conflicts that add to this adventure.

Only a handful of close friends - Robyn, Cal and a few others - know that Matthew is more than an archaeologist. He hides the truth from his father who is funding the adventures of the elusive Gideon Barnes and is becoming increasingly annoyed that the hunter refuses to appear at the gala events celebrating his priceless finds. Although I don't agree with Matthew's estrangement and immature attitude towards his father, it makes some sense and adds a side conflict to the story

Cal’s girlfriend, Sophie, is suddenly taken by someone who thinks they can trade her for an Indian statue that Matthew recovered. As Matthew bargains with Sophie's kidnapper he recognizes the hand of an old nemesis. Matthew cannot deliver the statue but he offers the lure of bigger treasure: the lost city of Paititi, or the City of Gold.

Matthew, Robyn and Cal rush off to Bolivia with two goons along to keep them honest and in hand. Matthew leads the team in the jungle like Indiana Jones, solving puzzles within tunnels and hopefully dodging deadly traps. Tensions are high and not everyone is careful enough to make it out of the jungle alive.

Meanwhile, back home, Sophie suffers the fears and trauma of being kidnapped. The greedy villain isn’t aware that Matthew has tasked the household butler (and treasure researcher), Daniel, with finding clues to locate Sophie from the proof of life videos. Also a bulldogged police detective is investigating the nice car found in a seedy part of town that leads him to a missing young woman who has connections to the mayor's son.

This is definitely akin to an Indian Jones story set in modern times. There is very fast paced action and danger in one scenario with some good investigative twists at the home front. The two lines of the story worked well to keep interest moving and to make the book more than just a fun, albeit deadly, treasure hunt. I appreciated the bits of police tactical details that were included to balance out the hi-jinks of the hunters.

The touchy relationship between Matthew and Robyn is another dynamic that added intrigue. I wondered about their past history and I was rooting for them to pull together. Since this is the first in the series I imagine more may be shared about their relationship in books yet to come. I recommend this to readers who enjoy a fun thriller and mystery, topped with a touch of romance and a touch of family drama.

I received this title through Great Escape Virtual Tours for an honest review.

"An Exciting and Suspenseful First Novel of the Matthew Connor Adventure Series"

I received an ARC copy of this incredible story, "City Of Gold." Matthew Conner is a treasure hunter under the faux name of Gideon Barnes. However, his father William Conner, Mayor of Toronto, Canada believes his son is a working archaeologist. Matthew's team consists of Cal Myers and Robyn Garcia, for whom he has a deep love and respect. The team has recently brought back a Pandu statue which is placed in the local museum. Veronica Vincent wants the statue stolen and will go to any length to increase her wealth, even kidnapping Cal Myers girlfriend, Sophie. There is a legend about a hidden city within a remote rain forest of Peru, bordering also Bolivia. It is referred to as the location of the City of Gold. To save Sophie's life, the treasure team has one week to bring back proof of the location. Each character in this brilliant novel has individual challenges which the reader will find engulfing. Carolyn Arnold is a powerful and prolific author who successfully writes a wide range of genre. Her stories are excellently written, gripping and captivating. She'll definitely keep you well entertained.

Matthew Connor is the privileged son of a billionaire senator who travels the world as archeologist and treasure hunter Gideon Barnes. When his photographer's girlfriend is abducted as leverage for him to find the Incan lost City of Gold by the too-lazy-to-do-it-herself villainess, he is forced into his latest adventure.

As an ancient history buff and huge Josh Gates fan, I was excited to get to read this book. The cast of characters was big and diverse, the chapters were short, and the plot moves along at a brisk pace. I liked this author's description and scene setting.

But there were so many POVs it gave the book a popcorn-y feel as it bounced back and forth from one scene to the next. I found myself skimming all the scenes BUT the actual expedition. The villains, in particular, seemed cookie-cutter, and their dialogue was trite and cliched. Very Film Noir. The "archaeologist" was definitely more treasure-hunter than scientist, with no scientific method or thought of cultural respect or artifact preservation. The fact that he was a billionaire's son and all danger could have been averted with one call to his dad really deflated the tension for me. It was an okay, fun read to pass the day, but I was hoping for more tension and depth.

Delve into the fast pace, deadly world of treasure hunting that will have you gripped from the very start!
Matthew Connor is an archaeologist by day but by night he is Gideon Barnes renowned treasure hunter - only a few people know his true identity and not even his father has any idea about his sons alter ego of Gideon, all he knows is that he can find just about treasure in the world.

The start of this book will pull you in with a fast paced race through the jungle and a heart thumping jump into a waterfall for Gideon(Matthew), Cal and co' as they dodge bullets to get the treasure home in piece as well as their lives intact. From here we are met with Matthew's father getting suspicious to the elusive Gideon who never shows up to promote his finds, a kidnapping and the prospect of finding the lost Inca City of Gold.

I loved the Indiana Jones movies and if you are fan you will love this book! It is fast paced, thrilling and will have you on the edge of your seat as you follow Matthew and his team on their search to find the myth of the City Gold in the Bolivian jungle and save Cal's girlfriend at the same time.

I am looking forward to reading more in the Matthew Connor series, whilst it is slightly different to Arnold's usual FBI/Police procedural books this is just as thrilling and engaging and she is fast becoming a favourite for this genre for me.

An exciting and mysterious adventure!

City of Gold is an adventurous tale that will give you some history of the Incas while the treasure hunters are searching for the City of Gold. The beginning was a little slow for me yet at the same time held some intrigue that I had to continue to read to find out what was going on. I never anticipated the different twists and turns that happened throughout the story. When you think that is the last thing that they could encounter, something else happens. There was so much intrigue and action that I didn’t want to put the book down. Carolyn Arnold really knows how to build up the suspense and keep just enough action to keep your attention up to the very last page.

Carolyn Arnold has written a fantastic story with characters that are well developed and engaging. Every character has challenges that they have to work through that adds to it. Carolyn’s stories are brilliantly written, entertaining, and enthralling. This is a definite winner from this author. I can’t wait to read the next adventure that involves Matthew Connor.

This is the second book that I have read by Carolyn Arnold and will certainly not be my last. I was not disappointed at all. I recommend City of Gold to anyone that enjoys reading an adventurous mystery with unexpected twists and turns.

I got my hands on one of Arnold's books a few years ago and loved her style. She is very well-versed in the subject at hand - from the FBI to Archaeologists, this author does her digging! (See what I did there...this book features an archaeologist and I said "digging"...okay, okay, I know, bad joke...)

As a child of the 80's/90's, I am drawn to mystery and intrigue with a whirlwind adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed that Arnold took her typical detective route into a historical direction without losing that bite that she puts down as you read. City of Gold fulfills your need for a thriller while giving you a cozy feeling with believable, strong characters. They are willing to fight to save one another and even willing to give up the one thing that they have spent a large piece of their lives searching for to save a friend.

I'm looking forward to the many adventures that Matthew Connor and his friends face! A must-read for those who love mystery, history, thrilling story-lines, with a touch of Indiana Jones/Ben Gates feel!

City of Gold - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Matthew Connor is forced to turbo-charge his Indiana Jones-style treasure hunting skills in this heart-stopping thriller from the Queen of the Murder-Mystery Thriller, Carolyn Arnold.

Matthew's current inamorata Sophie Jones, has been kidnapped and held for ransom by Veronica, a money-grabbing ex of his. When the solid gold statue of Pandu she wants becomes unobtainable, only finding Patiti, the fabulous legendary City of Gold, will save Sophie from a deadly fate!

Where must Matthew go to find the City? Who does he take with him on his quest?
Who is Jake - and what befalls him along the way? What other pitfalls await the team?
How does Matthew find where Sophie is held captive? Who rescues her?
When do Matthew finally reach the City and what do they find there?

This homage to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark will have readers perched perilously on the edge of their seats, as they read all night to accompany Matthew Connors on his deadly quest. Why not join them in spirit and thrill with every danger and victory - you won't regret it!

Matthew Connor and his friends Cal and Robyn have finally made it home after an exciting adventure in Cambodia where they found the priceless Pandu artifact which almost cost them their lives.

Matthew, Cal and Robyn receive new information as to the location of the City of Gold. They would very much like to go look for the City of Gold but Matthew doesn’t feel as if they have enough information.

But when Cal’s girlfriend Sophie is kidnapped the City of Gold is looking as if it might just be their next adventure. Sophie’s kidnapper demands the Pandu artifact in exchange for her release. The Pandu has already been put on display at the museum and the only way to get it back is to steal it and Matthew is not into that sort of thing so he offers Sophie’s kidnapper the City of Gold instead. Who wouldn’t want a city full of gold?

Matthew, Cal and Robyn set out on an adventure of a lifetime to find the City of Gold, a place where no one has ever returned. Can they find the City of Gold? Will they make it back alive? Does the City of Gold actually exist?

City of Gold has lots of adventure, suspense, action with twists and turns around every corner. It will keep you entertained from the first page and have you racing to the end rooting for our characters and their lives as they race against the clock to find the City of Gold and save Cal’s girlfriend Sophie.

City of Gold reminded me a lot of the Indiana Jones movies and a little bit of Journey to the Center of the Earth as well when they were looking for the City of Gold.

I would recommend City of Gold to anyone who likes the Indiana Jones movies or maybe even Journey to the Center of the Earth. City of Gold is for all fans of adventure, suspense and action.

It's a new-to-me series from Carolyn Arnold, and one I'm tickled with. Matthew Connor, a newly-minted archeologist and son of the well-known and popular Mayor of Toronto, Canada, and several of Matthew's friends spend their time trying to find the location of 'The City of Gold", a legendary Incan community located somewhere east of Peru. At stake, are not just their working reputations internationally, but perhaps their very lives as their mission is haunted by bad guys who want to follow them and take it all away from them. But though they are young and sometimes foolish, they are also invested in this mission for all the right reasons. And of course to impress Daddy who forked over the budget for the search without being aware that Matthew was even involved. And then friend Sophia is kidnapped and it all hits the fan. You will want to be a part of it all. I sure enjoyed it, myself.

This book has everything, kidnap, murder, police investigation and the hunt for lost treasure. A real page turner full of thrills and emotion with excellent descriptive writing and characters that jump out of the pages and come to life.

The story takes us on a rip roaring roller coaster of a ride through the jungle to find a hidden city of gold in order to save his girlfriend from a kidnapper. A lot of research has obviously gone into this novel, I feel the story is a cross between the Indiana Jones stories and the old Tarzan adventures with a mythological creature and old fashioned defence mechanisms thrown in.

The chapters are small and the story flows smoothly. I think each reader will pick out their favourite character and will want them to succeed.

A riveting read for all adventures lovers who have an interest in history. I enjoyed this book along with the authors other novels and anyone who likes adventure mystery and suspense will enjoy it too.

The premise of the story intrigued me. The rumored Lost City of Gold of the Incas is the goal of the characters in the story.
I found a lot entertaining while I was reading. The jungle search for the actual lost city was creatively presented. The pacing was fast.
I found some of this story to be kind of formulaic to the genre, not necessarily in a detrimental way. You had the "good guys", the "bad guys", and the "really bad guys". You had the ancient engineering that outsmarted modern man. You had the altruistic reason for the "good guys" going on the quest.
The problem for me that kept me from giving this a higher rating - I really did NOT like the main character. I finished the story hoping I could find a reason, but it never happened for me. I knew when I started this was book one of a series, so I thought what might make me consider the next story in the series was that the "bad guy" would redeem himself and become part of the team for the next adventure.

This is a good adventure yarn with several twists and a number of quirky characters both on the good and bad side of the story.

Matthew Connor and friends have just completed retrieving an idol lost in time and delivered it to a museum though it is coveted by another who want them to steal it back for an anonymous indiviudal as ransom to someone that has been kidnapped.

Unwilling to risk jail for theft of the item, they offer up something much more valuable - The City of Gold - and soon Matthew and his friends are thrust into danger along with a couple of villains sent with them to ensure that they don't deviate from the plan of the kidnapper.

Lots of action and a couple of side plots keep the story rolling along and the reader engulfed in the story.

Matthew Connor Treasure Hunter Rocks!

Matthew, along with fellow treasure hunters Robyn and Cal, brave all types of dangers, natural and man-made. But their most dangerous hunt involves searching for the Incan lost city of gold. No one is sure if it is in Peru or Bolivia or ?? But what makes this search so intense and dangerous is that a nemesis of Matthew's, Veronica Vincent, wants the treasure of the city of gold without having to do any of the work. In fact, she's willing to ensure Matthew, Robyn, and Cal will do the grunt work by kidnapping and holding hostage Sophie, Cal's girlfriend. As you can imagine, even the best laid plans don't always go well. But to see how things go right and wrong, you're gonna have to read this book!

If I wanted to write an archeological thriller, the recipe would look something like this. The characters are drawn from a broad pallet that includes someone for everyone's taste. the story is told very well, and many little surprises create thrills along the way. The style of writing is flexible, sometimes describing direct action and sometimes reporting on events of the past. Matthew Connor is an interesting hero, and he is not described as a superhero, he does screw up along the way. You will have to read the book to find out if the City of Gold is discovered. As exciting as that prospect is, the thrills of the story are in the search and the damage caused by the bad guys.

Astounding, awesome and amazing!!

Before I read this book, I had no idea that Carolyn could write such enthralling, riveting archeological thrillers with such flair! The book held me in its grasp from the first word to the final word of the book. The story is all consuming, the characters are true to life and endearing and the situations, descriptions of the Inca city and the treasures therein need to be read to get a complete and wholesome picture of the story and everything in it.

I was totally immersed in the book and all the goings-on for the total duration of reading this book! Thank you for this bombshell reading experience, Carolyn!!
