Amelia Lucas is a successful writer from New York and her agent, T.J. is pressuring her into writing yet another successful book in her series about amateur sleuth, Abby Lovelace.
But Amelia wants to take her books in a different direction adding a grittier feel to the stories of murder and deception. With that aim in mind, she uses a chance meeting with successful attorney, Luis Munoz, to gain some inside information on cases that she could turn into good stories. Before long, Amelia imagines herself in love with Luis and is convinced that this new chapter in her life will bring richness to her writing when she describes the love which is developing between her characters, Abby Lovelace and Todd Bowers.
But Amelia isn’t the only one with designs on Luis and someone is watching their every move. Before long, Amelia finds herself at the heart of a real life murder attempt, the outcome of which will change her life forever.
This book is promoted as a mystery, even in the subtitle, but what it really is is a fluffy romance. There's certainly no 'sleuth' about it, and sadly, the writing of this book falls far short of the competence one expects in a published work. Stringent editing, to weed out homophone errors and the several continuity issues, would do a lot for it. From the point where anything actually starts happening, about halfway through the book, it was so clumsily written that I had trouble following it.
With a lot more work, and appropriate targeting, more could have been made of it, but basically it lacks substance.
Why is the word mystery in the title? I would have given money to not have read this junk. I gave it one star for filling the pages with the same couple of words over and over. Amelia, Luis were used as though the author was required to turn in a school paper with a minimum number of words required. It reads like an adolescent attempt as well. Good luck to all involved in the series.
This book seemed to confuse me. I was half way into thinking it was Amelia's mind writing the book, then, I felt it was actually happening to her? I really did not like T.J. and the conflicted Amelia never drew me in. I understand this is a prequel but, I think perhaps you need to read the completed books to understand it.
Good, quick read. Characters were well written and interacted well with each other. Liked the storyline and really think the main character in the story (the author) should change her stories a little. Change is usually good. That is why I read this book in the first place. Changing things up a bit. Glad I did. I will read more from Ellie Blake.
I'm an voracious reader!!. I can not imagine myself finishing this book!!However, once I start a book, I must finish it!!! This was, without doubt, the most ridiculous effort at writing a book I have ever endured. It was awful!!!Start to finish!! I'm so sorry, but I hope you change careers immediately!!!
Not really my sort of book, I had a great deal of trouble feeling connection with any of the characters or feeling sympathy with the mentality of what today would be regarded as a stalker. Just too sad to credit.
Never mind the narrative and that you are always trying to guess what’s the story here, but when it’s about to start it finishes? Not a good book, not for a long shot...
I am sorry, I do not think this book was ready for print. It's all over the place. I couldn't figure it out. I had to read it twice because I thought I missed something the first time. There was no character development, no plot line or anything.
I think that this might actually be a good book if a little more time was taken with both the story line and character development. The idea of the book is a good one.
This is a quick read for anyone that has about an hour to read. Although it was quick the storyline was scattered making it difficult settle into the story. The other issue was believability. The heroine of this book falls in love after meeting once in the park and like other parts of the book stretches believability
Amelia Lucas is an author with a new lawyer guy she is pumping for inside info, as she wants her flirty romances to take another turn. Sadly, that is not to be the case as Amelia takes on thwarting a jealous rival, who doesn't even realize who the lawyer's true love is in fact! Cute fast read, but could have had more substance.
Interesting . I had a hard time following the storyline. At some points I thought she was telling a story within a story but then I realized it was "live" so to speak. I might give her 2nd book a try as it wasn't the worst thing I've ever read but again it was very hard to follow.
This has a quirky style about it which is fine, but the content is pretty mundane. It's too short for a plane trip, or an afternoon at the beach. You would need five of this type of book for your week's lunch breaks; if that helps?
