Rath and Paisen completed all fifty kills in their contracts with the Janus Group. But when they uncovered the criminal organization's darkest secret, the Janus Group unleashed an army of assassins to silence the rogue pair. With help from a former Interstellar Police detective, Rath and Paisen survive - barely. Their plan to attack the Janus Group head-on may be suicide, but in the end, they'll tear the organization to the ground … or die trying.
I grew up in Boston, but spent most of my childhood in various boarding schools, including getting trained as a classical singer at a choir school for boys. I joined the Army in 2002, and spent four years on active duty, including a year-long deployment to Iraq in 2004 as a tank and scout platoon leader.
When I’m not spending time with my lovely wife and daughter, I’m frantically working on my next book.

This was another fun instalment in the Janus Group series. The series is a sci-fi thriller with plenty of action and a bit of mystery. It is like Jason Bourne set in a fun sci-fi future with space travel and cool sci-fi technology!
The second book ended on a bit of a cliffhanger so this one got of to a quick start. With Rath and Paisen both captured by the Group it was up to Martin and Alexi to save them if they wanted their help to expose the group. Dazy gets further caught up in the action as the fallout of her boyfriend's AI project exposing a few corrupt Senators plays out.
The story was fairly entertaining. Plenty of fast paced action and a bit of mystery to keep things interesting. None of the characters are particularly memorable or interesting but they do have their own distinct personalities and goals so it is interesting to see them interact with each other.
All in all this was an enjoyable read.
Rating: 3.5 stars.
Audio Note: James Fouhey has done an excellent job with this series.
I was given a free advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This ended up being a really fun series. I think back to when I first started it, and I really had no idea what I was getting into. While the characters weren't as well-developed as others I've read, I still really enjoyed following them throughout these three books and seeing how events forced their paths to cross.
Like Rath's Gambit did before, this book started out exactly where the previous one left off. And, as before, I thought I might end up rating this one 4 stars (which would have made me sad because I feel like the third installment should always be the best!). But the further I read, the more action there was, and the faster the plot moved. I ended up finishing the book in a single sitting.
I have to say I wasn't quite sure what to expect in terms of an ending. While a bittersweet ending would have been appropriate considering the backstory and content matter, I'm now glad that the characters ended up with a happy ending. The final showdown (and aftermath of said showdown) with the Guild was epic -- very Italian Job-esque.
Recommended for readers who like plenty of action and intrigue in their sci fi!
This book is a great rebound from the second one and a great ending to the series. To say i was surprised would be an understatement.
Finally Rath appears to have evolved. Not the clumsy kid of the previous 2 books. The action is great. I mean really great. The actions of our protagonist and the rest of the characters are consistent. The plot is great overall and the ending rocks. Just loved it.
Only 2 cons i can think of. The first one is that we still don't get to know much more about Paisen. I wanted to know more about her. The second is about the tech and specifically the "energy weapon". Yes they have nanos etc but...direct matter manipulation and in the way described is well beyond what would seem probable. I would like also to mention the fact that the forge would be immensely heavy if one could manufacture all those drones and ordnance. Not believable they could carry around all that mass.
Book rating 4+ Overall series rating 3
p.s i have NOT received a free book to provide this review :P
The adventure continues... Rath and Paisen are on a mission - to wipe out the Janus Group. With a crazed contractor on their tails, this is easier said than done. But this pair are very motivated. More action and mayhem abound in this book. Nary a dull moment. It's well worth reading!
This is where I stopped reading the series and where I think the series maybe should have stopped. This nicely wraps up pretty much everything and doesn’t give generic endings for all the characters.
The story comes to its peak. Its time to counter attack the group and claimed the money they promised. One by one, the name of the high end comes out, and its time to hunt them down.
*Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Also this is the third book in a series and NOT a standalone. You should have read the first two books before continuing on or you will be lost. There will be spoilers for the first two books ahead*
Rath's Reckoning is the third and final chapter of the Janus Group Trilogy and man was it fun! Just as great as the first two books in the series. The author did such a great job wrapping up this story. I was reading along just like how in the world is this going to work out? How are they going to be able to take down the Janus group? It just didn't seem possible, but then it was perfection. It came out of left field for me, but I loved every minute of it. Really I finished reading the book and turned to my husband just like "Oh man! You are never going to believe what happened! This book was so amazing!!" Fun times.
The end of the last book was quite the cliffhanger. Rath had just found Paisen in the jail planet she was on only to find the company had followed him to find them both. We were left with them being tied up in some company facility with employees ready to torture them for the foreseeable future. It really looked bleak for them, though Rath did have the cop, Beauceron, who would be looking for him.
This story starts right off with Beauceron trying to find Rath and saving him from his dire fate. You know throughout the whole series we have followed Beauceron and how he feels responsible for some cops deaths and him trying to find the Janus Group and hold them responsible for their crimes. I must say at times he got on my nerves in this book. I know he is a cop, but his blind optimism that they could somehow just walk up to the bad guys and put them on trial, that when things go bad they should turn themselves into the police even though that would mean losing whatever lead they had on the bad guys, his being so tunnel vision about it was frustrating. It was one of those yes, this might technically not be what you should do, but it is for the greater good. Do you want these people to pay for what they did or do you want them to kill you before you have a chance? After everything he has seen to almost underestimate the company was a bit surprising. He was just really rigid, but at the same time I get it. It is just not the way I would think in the situation.
Rath and Paisen were so much fun. They are finally working together to try and take away the threat for good (and get paid). Man at the beginning of the story you can just see Paisen getting annoyed with Rath and thinking you've got to be kidding me!? Why do I have to be stuck with this idiot?? Oh I loved it. That is one of the things I love about the story. Rath is not some super amazing does everything perfect kind of person. He is more real, more like what a normal person would be like in his situation. It is good that he has Paisen on his side because together they might have a chance.
There was a lot of action in this last chapter of the story which was great. With contractor 700 on their trail as well as the rest of the Janus Group they have a lot working against them. They get in some pretty sticky situations and somehow have to figure out a ways to not get killed. I loved all the technology in the story. I loved Rath's attachment to his backpack forge that he has been carrying around forever. I just loved this story. Like I said above I was getting towards the end of the story just thinking this is never going to work out, they are never going to be successful, but then it was just perfect how everything played out.
I really enjoyed this series and cannot say enough good things about it. I don't read a lot of sci fi, but I probably should. If they are anything like these books I will love them. So much fun, so much action and adventure, such evil bad guys, just such a great read. Go pre-order your copy now so you will be all ready to finish this series on New Years Day! I can't think of a better way to celebrate than with a good book like this.
I just feel in love with this series from the time I read the free short story about the 50 kills . I wanted more of that book and bingo , Mr Platt came out with the series and after I bought the first one I ended up preordering every single one that came out after that. I never give a lot about what is in the books that I review because I am always afraid to spoil it for you. The series is well worth buying and has a great storyline. The characters are well developed and once you start reading it will be hard to put down. This book was no different than the others in the series, I mean that in a very good way as in just as good. Full of action and things you think that will happen don't and the things that you don't expect to happen to ,do. Great and fun read. Great job Piers. Hope to see more of this series in the future.
The conclusion to the Rath trilogy rocks along...although it covers a lot of territory in stellar geography and plot development it doesn't feel rushed, cramped or abbreviated and the conclusion smoothly wraps up the loose ends while leaving scope (if the author so wishes) for further development. I've really enjoyed this trilogy and would be interested in any further developments in the Rath-verse if they continue to develop the storyline...I am also very keen to read other works from this author.
Man, I love this series! Rath, Paisen, Beauceron, and Dasi go through hell but keep pushing. Betrayal, adventure, action; this series runs the gamut! Sorry to see the story end... It's bittersweet, knowing this (part of the?) series is wrapped. I can see spin-offs!
Gotta finish it up right? So how exactly do you get even with a group that runs an assassin corp with shadowy government oversight? Well to be honest, it's tricky.
Rath and company are in for the fight of their lives.
The story wraps up nicely, and it could end here. But it seems like there's more in store for Rath. I'm anxious to grab the next story in the line.
A short and fun read. Maze Runner meets space ships and assassins. I heard talk of the author continuing this series but I think that this book wrapped up the story line very nicely. There was very little bad language and the not so many descriptions of blood/gore. I would recommend as a good YA read.
Nice ending to a pretty good series. I like that all four main characters survived at the end. One thing I'm not sure about is Rath's obsession with Jaymi.
Anyway it seems like there might be a future series with Rath so I'll be waiting to read that too.

Good thriller. Full of violence. Ambiguity about the place of violence in a violent corrupt society. A thought provoking series if thinking is your thing. Probably a satisfying thriller if violence doesn't disturb you.
Rath is a well developed character and there are lots of action and plot twists to keep a reader occupied. I enjoyed the format of all three books and am Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I truly enjoyed this book and The Janus Group series. Rath's Reckoning did a fine job of wrapping up all the plots and subplots of all the books in Mr Platt's trilogy. I highly recommend this trilogy and suggest you begin at the beginning.
This book is a great ending to the Janus Group. And it left enough for there to be a great spin off of a new series. I tag this a Must Read book and series.
An excellent conclusion to what began in the first book. Rath's Reckoning (as well as the previous titles in the Janus Group series) may be short, but is a fun and most enjoyable read.
