You are about to experience SM Johnson's M/M BDSM Dungeon series from beginning to end, including Above the Dungeon, Out of the Dungeon, Three in the Dungeon, Dare in the Dungeon, and the bonus short story, The Story of Hawk and boy. Let my main men, Roman, Dare, and Jeff escort you into their lives for a time. Remember, your safewords are "yellow" for check in, "red" for stop all activity now. Safe, sane, and consensual is the rule, but Risk Aware Consensual Kink is acceptable here for experienced BDSM practitioners. Water is available upon request, and all practitioners are expected to provide aftercare.
Most common side effects are bruises – skin, egos, and hearts.
Most common benefit is personal growth and healing.
SM Johnson hibernates in a conservative community of northern Wisconsin, where she writes characters who aren't exactly mainstream. Her stories are erotic, romantic and often somewhat unexpected. Visit her on blogspot to feed your hunger for darkly erotic fiction, messy lives, and things that go "naughty" in the night. http://www.smjbookteasers.blogspot.com

PS - Goodreads insists on periods between the S and the M of SM Johnson. But, for the record, the periods are incorrect. And because of this, also for the record, some of my books DO NOT SHOW UP as my books, but as other S.M. Johnson's books.
This series grabbed me from the first book. The first in the series was free, I was able to borrow the 2nd and I just had to know how the story continued/ended so I bought it. I imagined a different outcome based on what I read from the first book. I was disappointed in one regard because I had pictured the plot going a whole different way. But at the same time I was able to happily follow along to this other plot. Dare is the MC (I think - maybe it's Roman, or even Jeff whose story is told from 1st person). But it starts with Dare running away from his girlfriend and his family. And he runs to his cousin, Doc, who is a bartender in a gay BDSM club. Dare has lived his whole life thinking he is straight, but there is something about Roman - the dungeon master - that he cannot resist. And even though he is "straight" he can't refuse Roman when he takes him under the dungeon. Dare and Roman - not to give too much away - enjoy some light BDSM to start, and then Dare is introduced to Jeff, Romans partner of 12 years, and 24/7 slave. Oh yeah. 24/7. Again, don't want to give too much away, so I skipped the in between part. Long story short, Jeff is at first seemingly okay with Roman enjoying Jeff, but you will soon learn things aren't what they seem. I wasn't happy with how the series ended. It felt like I still had way too many unanswered questions about Jeff Roman and Dare and all the other characters. I would recommend the series, but don't go into this thinking you know what's going to happen, because you would be so wrong, and you may end up disappointing yourself.
Likes: -Excellent characterization and development. The characters are deeply flawed, but it makes them seem more genuine. They work on these things throughout. -Writing. Johnson's writing style is clear and appealing. -Hot. Enough said. -BDSM. The elements of safe, sane, and consensual are highly present. If there are anomalies, they are addressed in later books and seem to be character quirks.
Dislikes: -I didn't particularly like the element Vanessa's, ah, predicament provided. It was good for character development, but I wasn't a fan of it. -I didn't really like Zach. I think I would have enjoyed more of a one on one dynamic for Dare.
Overall: Above the Dungeon is spectacular, and I absolutely feel it deserves 5 stars. I enjoyed seeing the progression of the characters' stories throughout the series
I nearly dropped a star because I felt Dare in the Dungeon didn't do the series justice, but I still very much enjoyed it.
