Dating an Alien Pop Star

Rate this book
Daisy Kirkwood has only just escaped her small-town life and run away to New York City, the land of last-minute secret gigs at famous musical venues, when she's kidnapped by aliens. Unfortunately, no one ever writes about how to handle alien abduction in those fancy NYC guidebooks.

Griffin and Dev are supermassively sexy aliens from a politically and environmentally troubled planet who arrive on Earth with very little knowledge about human ways other than what they learned from a wayward E! News signal. Their mission is to pretend to be the most influential people on the planet—English pop stars, of course!—and gain the help of a powerful secret society. Upon arriving, they abduct Daisy Kirkwood, a nerdy young woman who loves music but could seriously use a bit of help in the love-life department. Though Griffin and Daisy initially squabble, neither can deny the intergalactic sparks whenever they're too close to each other. Together, they must face murderous aliens, cultural misunderstandings, bad backup musicians, and the dark side of fame and the media, all set against a tight deadline…

Part High Fidelity, part Bridget Jones' Diary, part Doctor Who, Dating an Alien Pop Star is a sexy romantic comedy.

Such a fun read. And the characters are so well developed that they begin to feel like real persons. The love and friendship between Dev and Griff is so heartwarming. Everyone should have a friendship like that one. Griffins sass and innocence at the same time is truly endearing. No wonder Daisy falls for him.
And the true genious behind this book is that the sad story is buried within, without leaving you with a sad feeling. A home planet wrecked by war. A not so loving father- child relationship, a murdered mother. And yet, through all of this, love and friendship and belief in yourself prevales.
Definitely a book to read multiple times.

I have hardly read any books about aliens and surely not one in which they were cool. This one was completely unexpected. It had romance with a slight hint of adventure. And of course there's a band and a popstar and lots of music, just like the title suggests. The character development was good and I loved the friendship between the two aliens. The side characters were likeable too.

Daisy is a young girl living in New York. Everything goes fine until she is abducted by two aliens, and that's where the adventures begin. This book had a lot of laugh out loud moments, especially between Griffin and Devon and the good old slow burn romance between Daisy and Griffin. It was a light and entertaining read that left on a cliffhanger. I am looking forward to reading the sequel.

Do you think Aliens live among us and look, act, and talk like us?

Wow, this author has made me into a swooning fangirl for Griffin Valentino.

This book was fantastic and one I have never in my whole life ever read before. The story-line is incredible and the characters are so lovable and awesome. I love how this author spun this tale. She had me hooked with every turn of the page. I absolutely love Griffin and his spunky, vivacious personality and his awful taste in clothes was extremely phenomenal. He truly made this story so believable and fun to read along with his level headed friend, Devon. These two were so extremely hilarious and delightful to read. There was comedy, commitment, and love all rolled into one remarkable story. If you will follow Griffin, he will make sure you will fall in love with him too.
I highly recommend this story to all adults who love to rock out and love aliens.

Crimson Tree Publishing provided me with a digital ARC copy of the book for review purposes only as part of the Clean Teen Publishing Elite Reviewers. No remuneration was exchanged.

OMG.

This book, y'all. This book.

I don't even know where to begin except to tell y'all that I am completely fangirling out in all the best possible ways. I love this book. It's my favorite book that I've read all year. If you love New York and hot British guys (who may or may not be from this planet) and laugh out loud humor and music and outer space then DROP EVERYTHING THAT YOU'RE DOING AND READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW.

Okay, synopsis. Daisy is your normal twenty-something, going about her day in New York, when she's abducted by aliens, right smack dab in the middle of the street. But these aliens aren't your Yodas or your ETs or your Independence Day aliens with all their Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum fighting glory. No, these aliens are Prince Griffin AKA Harry Styles (in my head, anyway) and his adorable cinnamon roll of a best friend, Dev. And they need Daisy's help transforming Griffin into the hottest pop star the galaxy has ever seen.

Be still, my little Fangirl heart.

I can't decide what I love most about this book. I think it's a tie between the characters (Griff and Dev especially, both of whom must be loved and protected at all costs), Miss Saunders' sublime sense of humor (I laughed out loud reading this book... multiple times), and Griff's outrageous fashion sense.

Hollywood, if you're out there, please make this into a movie ASAP. I need to see Griff and his tacky sweaters before my eyes on the big screen.

This book was highly entertaining and such a fast read. I have never read a book so fast in my life, I mean it as in per pages per minute, including middle grade novels. I could have probably read it in one sitting but I chose not to. This book is perfect for times like these. You will be entertained and will forget about what's going on in the world the moment you pick it up. I understand this isn't the best book ever which is why I gave it 3.5 stars but oh my God do I recommend it. It truly is the quickest of reads.
Quality of the book: 3
Entertaining value: 4
How much of a quick read it is 4.5
If I were to round it up I would give it a higher rating but I'm happy with this one because Stockholm Syndrome much and because with this book I've discovered aliens and humans dating and having sex is definitely not my cup of tea.
Overall, I truly enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel. Also, it is free on Amazon Kindle so go pick it up and have a good time, we all need it right now.

A cute romance, a bit of adventure, and a ton of quirky moments--this story draws giggles, insures smiles and is simply a delight of zany, space orientated fun.

Daisy, aka Wanda, is not riding a great wave when it comes to guys. But unknowing to her, this dry spell is about to change in a totally unexpected way. An alien abduction, and that by some guy who thinks he's going to win over the world by being a popstar. And he expects Daisy to help him. Never mind the fact that she doesn't really have a clue, and his ridiculous antics don't make the situation any better. Add a galactic threat and the target of an assassination and some secret society, and the adventure begins.

The title caught me on this one, and it held everything I dreamed it would and more. Daisy is a fairly normal, twenty-something kind of gal. She's never considered herself overly gorgeous, or successful or really anything special at all. Mr. Alien is the complete opposite...and over the top. His personality clashes with hers the most ridiculous ways and pushes her way beyond any normal comfort zone. It's easy to feel with her, laugh with her and cheer her on when there's suddenly more at stake.

This is simply a fun ride. There's never a boring moment as humor slowly transfers into tension and the situation becomes more serious. Of course, some things aren't completely logical, but then they don't need to be. Real science doesn't play a role when these aliens appear. The last chapters are a bit quick to plow through some things, and a loose knot or two were bound a bit too fast, but that won't stop me from looking forward to getting my hands on the next book.

As to the romance--that's just an inter-planetary treat and out of this world in many different ways.

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book from the publisher.

I am a sucker for any books that have to do with aliens! I am completely obsessed. Roswell was one of my favorite shows I have ever watched. This book was super cute and funny. It was a fun and quick read. I read this book in just a few hours. It was easy to follow. All the chapters were broken down in a short and sweet manner. It was easy to follow and the writing flowed very well. There characters were silly, and quirky. They were easy to fall in love with. The aliens were fantastically portrayed. It was a great new take on aliens. This book makes for a perfect summer read. It's light and fluffy, just the type of book I like to relax by the pool with or for a day on the beach.

My Not So Secret Guilty Pleasure

I adored everything about this book! Daisy is "a few months on the wrong side of 29" living in New York City after spending a year following her favorite band on tour. Griffin and Dev are aliens from another planet. Grif has a bet to settle with his dad, and he wants to meet David Bowie. Posing as British pop stars, they commandeer Daisy to help Grid dress his pop persona. Daisy thinks she's been kidnapped by a loon with terrible fashion sense. She doesn't realize she's about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. This book has it all -great characters, science fantasy, adventure, intrigue and romance. It's a light hearted read, but also has some subtle, relevant social commentary. There are some truly moving romantic passages, as Grid's home world has different ideals about mating. Grid himself is a loveable goof, so arrogant at first as he tries too hard to act like a spoiled, debauched pop star. Dev is his ever loyal cousin, and Kammie owns a small recording studio. Things are looking good for the team....until another alien is detected. It becomes a race against time, but Daisy is beginning to love every minute..and quite possibly Grid too...

This book is hilarious and addictive. It was a nice quick read, even tho it took me a week and some change because of school. I loved all the characters for the most part, they aren't perfect, but I don't think it affected my enjoyment of the story. It was very very cheesy at times, and sometimes it was overwhelming but others it was perfect. I found myself laughing out loud at the events, and grinning like an idiot at others.

This book did have some shortfalls. It wasn't the best writing and was quite simple. The characters other than Daisy stayed pretty stagnant in their development, and Daisy's friend, Kammie, just felt like an add in. She was only really there to help the plot along and a random love interest for another character. The romance was very instalovey, and I felt like Daisy should have been more concerned about falling in love with an alien....

Overall, I think if your just looking for something quick and something to make you smile/laugh then this is the perfect book. I feel this has helped me out of my reading slump, and I am excited to finish up the duology? (not sure how many additions there will be)

This book was really hilarious 😛 the leading men have the best bromance (reminds me of the Devil is a parttimer boys but with aliens lol) It was really fascinating learning about how the characters, but also about what it takes to become famous this semi day and age especially with music. In addition, it was awesome to see how an avid music lover falls in love with an alien and the funness of it rather than dramatic was what made it extra special. I also like that theres was the right amount of romance and the right amount of hilarity and the right amount of unique alien world building 4.5 out of 5 stars!! I truly recommend this to anyone who wants a fluffy new adult romance who enjoys music and aliens and hilarity and anyone who loves Devil is a part timer!! Jacqueline E Smith recommended this to me and I'm so glad she did this is definitely going to be a series I will eventually read all the way through!!

Being a Roswell native, I love aliens, little, green and otherwise. so I really, really, really like the particular brand of alien found in Saunders' DATING AN ALIEN POP STAR!
Alien love, all the way, Earthlings...all the way.

Not only is the plot unique and the writing light and starry-skied, but Griffin and Devon are not your typical aliens, nor are they your typical strapping young galaxy knights in shining armor. They have issues and, somehow, those issues make them all the more adorable, and (pardon the pun) out of this world. :)

DATING AN ALIEN POP STAR is a romp of a read and if you don't like aliens now, you 'll have your eye on the sky after reading this book!

This was SUCH a fun read. Fans of Bridget Jones's Diary will definitely get a kick out of this as Daisy has to deal with Aliens! Yes it sounds insane but it makes for a fun, fast paced read. This is one of those perfect beach type books. Aliens that want to be English Popstars? because seriously how else are you going to get all the power in the world? Awesome pop culture references this book will appeal to SO many people that you just need to pick up a copy and read it. An EASY 5 stars from me! V""V

This was a very amusing read! Griffin, alien prince, lands on earth to reach some political goals by becoming a famous pop star, using Daisy (or as he likes to call her, Wanda) as a stylist. They go through a big adventure, leading to a cute ending. Will add book two to my list :-)

I need to preface this review by saying that I’m not a Kendra Saunders fangirl. Kendra has been far too important a figure in my life for such an inadequate label. I wouldn’t be the person I am without her guidance, support, and love.

So whenever I start reading one of her books, I panic.

What if this is the book I don’t love? What if I end up having to write a review where I lie and try to be funny. I can’t be funny when I’m lying and trying. I can’t. Then I have to breathe into a paperbag while crying ugly tears and it’s always so pointless. By page twenty-five I’m always too engrossed to remember what I’d been so worked up about.

Same goes for Dating an Alien Popstar.

Actually, I think it might go double for Dating an Alien Pop Star, because I’m pretty sure I threatened to kill my husband for interrupting me while I was reading. The real world got a little fuzzy while I was wrapped up in Griffin, Dev, and Daisy. It’s such a wonderful concept. Flighty alien prince comes to Earth to prove it’s worth by becoming a pop star. Who would ever think to do that? Griffin, clearly. And who would just randomly approach a woman on the street and effectively kidnap her making her their put upon assistant? Griffin, clearly. And who would love them for it?

Me.

And Dev, and Daisy, and everyone else who falls into Griffin’s sphere of influence. It’s like… Have you ever watched Ouran Highschool Host Club? It’s like Tamaki and Kyoya were made alien pop stars. That’s the only possible way for me to describe it. Zany, clever, sexy and fun, Dating An Alien Pop Star is a perfect summer read. Pick up your copy today.

If you want some light relief in the form of a funny, insane story involving sexy rock stars, then this is the book for you!

I do like a rock star, it has to be said, so when I found out who and what inspired the author to write this novel, I just had to read it.

I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed. The two aliens who abduct the very human Daisy are utterly adorable. The very talented and Griffin is infuriatingly irresistible, as is fellow visitor, devoted Devon, who is lumbered with the responsibility of looking out for his wayward friend.

The minor characters are not particularly fleshed out, but there is so much going on that it doesn't matter. The pace is fast and as crazy as Griffin's questionable dress sense, but it's anchored by the believable Daisy. She is the voice of reason, the antidote to the madness around her. Whisked away on a roller coaster ride of adventure, she manages to hold onto her sanity, even when she realises she is falling for this weird little alien prince. I loved her. And I loved Griffin. And Devon!

It's a great observation on our celebrity-obsessed society.

Okay, so it's unlikely to win the Booker prize or thrill the literary luvvies, but I really enjoyed reading this book! It's a thoroughly entertaining read and I'll be reading the sequel, Engaged to an Alien Pop Star, very soon.

Well, the title of this book really had me intrigued me which made me purchase it. My first thought was that it was different to many books out there and to be honest, I don’t usually go for books featuring aliens so I was intrigued to find and more and read.
It was a very confusing but amazingly wacky book from start to finish. Griffin and Devin were very funny alien characters and I chuckled a lot regarding their knowledge of Earth and humans. Daisy is the main human character and is kidnapped in a bizarre way by Griffin and Devin. I did find that the storyline at times was a bit confusing and hard to follow but I did get that Griffin and Devin convince Daisy to hang around with them and help them to understand the earth. Griffin and Devin are on a mission, one that Daisy doesn’t know about. All she knows is that Griffin was to be famous……as a Rockstar.
It was a very fun book to read and I didn’t regret buying it or reading it. Im looking forward to reading the second book as this one is left on a cliff hanger but it was a very good ending.

This was just a fun book. Like pop music, light, fluffy, and happy. The premise is that aliens similar to humans arrive on earth, ostensibly looking for David Bowie (who he believes is also an alien) and one of them (Griffin) also wants to become a pop star. To help them fit in, they kidnap Daisy Kirkwood. And so starts the wild adventure, as Daisy helps them with shopping and navigating earth culture, that leads to events with far reaching consequences.

As I mentioned earlier, this book was just a lot of fun. The characters are all likeable, some of them goofily likeable. I believe the target audience is the YA market, but it makes a good summer read for anyone who enjoys a romance, or friendly aliens, or fairy tales.

This is book one in a series, and I am looking forward to reading the next one.

Good thing I know there's a sequel coming, it will be hard to wait! I don't consider myself a big fiction reader, much of the little I've read in recent years lacks good character development. Not so this time! Griffin and Daisy are protagonists you quickly grow to care about, and that's why it's so hard to put the book down. Fast paced action doesn't hurt either. Then add in some of my favourite things- British music, sci-fi and what I would call magic, and it adds up to the best thing I've read in 3 years.

Let me start by saying, historically, I have not enjoyed alien books. Two authors have changed my mind: Jennifer Armentrout and now, Kendra Saunders. This is such a fun read! I was pulled into the alien antics right along with Daisy, and I love Griffin. He's such an adorable goofball! This is a perfect light-hearted read when you're looking for something fun and entertaining. I sure hope there are more books to follow with these characters!

I tried. I really did. But after ten chapters, I'm just not as engaged as I should be. If I continued reading, it'd only be for Devon, and he's clearly going to remain a supporting character. There's not anything wrong with this book, I just don't particularly care any longer.

p.s. Daisy isn't actually "kidnapped". I was expecting more of a Stockholm Syndrome plotline, and this definitely isn't it. Daisy seems to enjoy herself for the most part, and Griffin is awfully pleasant.
