Psychologist Launi Treece, Ph.D. describes the unique challenges and blessings of being a Christian and a highly sensitive person. Based upon the work by Elaine Aron, Ph.D. and The Highly Sensitive Person, this book provides new insights into how to cope with sensitivity from the Christian perspective, and how to use the strengths of sensitivity to serve God and live life to the fullest. Highly sensitive people tend to struggle with anxiety, depression and physiological concerns. They may also find social situations such as work and church to be challenging. Dr. Treece provides insight, research and suggestions for how to cope, adapt and thrive in these areas.
This was a short introductory read for someone who is new to the concept of HSP. While I was already aware of most of the info on HSPs from Elaine Aron’s book, the Christian perspective was particularly helpful.
Very short, easy read. I found it slightly lacking, coming from the perspective of someone who has been keenly aware of their HSP type and come to a better understanding of it through learning about my introversion (after reading the book Quiet by Susan Cain). I was hoping it might expound more deeply on the concepts of the book The Highly Sensitive Person, with a biblical lens. However, it has more application for someone who's recently come/is coming to an understanding of their HSP type.
