Fanatics have dumped a hellish brew into Africa's Lake Victoria. There is no antidote for the spreading killer and ten million have already perished along the Nile and Mediterranean coasts. With the planet becoming a gas chamber, pathologist Karl Frankton fights a desperate battle against an apocalyptic weapon and its insane creators, a battle stretching from the White House to Sudan, Afghanistan, and Switzerland where the planet's most powerful atom-smasher will determine the fate of seven billion human beings.

Omega's warning is clear: "Our technology exceeds our grasp. One ounce of ricin can be extracted from castor oil production and can kill 50,000 people. Deadly indeed, but nothing compared to the devilish chemical spreading through our oceans, rivers, and reservoirs."

Author's Note: Omega is Book Two of the Apocalypse Zone series. While a story in itself, it is recommended that Book One, P.P.M., be read first for maximum effect.

Gary Naiman has written twelve novels. His background includes twenty years at Paramount Pictures and classified projects within in the chemical and weapons industries. Omega's prequel, P.P.M., is being considered for a motion picture.

This book is part 2 of "P.P.M. Apocalypse Zone" and could be categorised as an environmental thriller. It has plenty of action, interesting (if annoying) characters and a good pace. If you know nothing about chemistry the plot might seem great too. Unfortunately I know a little, enough to know that much of what is described is pure fantasy. The author has definitely misunderstood how an electron microscope works (you can't watch biological reactions using one), and seems to be under the impression that cyanide is an element (it's not - cyanides are compounds in which a carbon atom is triple bonded to a nitrogen atom). I could go on...

I don't want to sound too negative - having read to the end and enjoyed it, I went with the flow and dis-regarded the more obvious flights of fantasy (which included an intelligent, moral and decisive U.S. president with a conscience!) It is a warning about environmental pollution and corporate greed after all, and had a satisfactory ending, so kudos to the author for that.

Best free medical thriller series

I really enjoyed both PPM and Omega. Fast pacing, flawed characters allowed to develop, a creeping sense of dread throughout, authentic science and a satisfying denouement. The only flaw, which I marked for the author, were a missing image and omega symbol, both of which should be easy to replace with current images. Looking forward to more from Mr. Naiman!

very very good

Omega was just as exciting and scary as P P M. What a terrible way to try and end the world. Men have no concerns for others when it comes to greed. Very good books
