Herman Parish (born 1953) is the author of Amelia Bedelia children's book series, nephew of original author, Peggy Parish. Having grown up with his aunt’s tales of Amelia’s humorous misadventures, Herman decided to carry on the legacy after his aunt’s death in 1988. He did not wish to entrust the future of the series into the hands of a children’s author outside of the family. Since Peggy had the summers off from teaching, she was able to stay with the Parish family for extended periods of time, allowing Herman and Peggy to develop a close relationship. More importantly, this gave Herman a chance to keenly observe Peggy during her writing processes, gaining great insight to the road ahead of him. To carry on the essence of the series, Herman thoroughly examined his aunt’s work and did his best to capture what exactly made the character of Amelia Bedelia such a hit. Having editor Susan Hirschman and illustrator Lynn Sweat in common with his aunt helped to make the transition. He has added thirteen more books to the series. Herman is a resident of Princeton, New Jersey, and travels to libraries and schools across the United States, speaking and inspiring young children. The importance of revising and editing is often stressed during these dynamic lectures. He has presented to students in more than 22 states.

Hi everyone! It’s Ariel here, and today I’m excited to tell you about a fun book called "Amelia Bedelia Ties the Knot." It’s the tenth book in the Amelia Bedelia series!

In this story, Amelia Bedelia’s Aunt Mary is getting married, and Amelia Bedelia gets to help plan the beach wedding. But, oh boy, there are lots of problems that come up! There’s a broken bridge, a mysterious woman who seems to be causing trouble, a captain who gets sick, a ripped wedding dress, and even a lost wedding ring!

Amelia Bedelia is the flower girl, and she’s determined to help make the wedding perfect. She tries to solve all the problems and make sure everything goes smoothly, even though her funny mix-ups and misunderstandings lead to some hilarious situations.

I loved reading this book because Amelia Bedelia is always so funny and full of surprises. The illustrations are really cute, and the story is packed with fun and adventure.

My favorite part was when Amelia Bedelia tries to fix all the problems with her unique ideas. It’s really funny to see how she solves everything in her own special way.

If you like funny stories and family adventures, you will definitely enjoy "Amelia Bedelia Ties the Knot." It’s a great book that shows how Amelia Bedelia’s heart and creativity can make any situation better!

Happy reading!

Adorable! Amelia as a child is not quite as literal as in the older books when she is an adult, but there is much more to the story in the child version. There is a mystery and an ethical conundrum for Amelia Bedelia, as well as a large problem and a couple of small ones to solve. My 7 year old loved all of the twists and turns. I loved that Amelia was allowed to help the adults with a big project, but was also reprimanded when she overstepped her bounds. This book was great fiction mixed with enough reality to keep it grounded.

Summary:
Amelia Bedelia’s aunt Mary is getting married. She came over and shared the good news with Amelia and her family. She lets the family know that she is finally marrying Metal Man Bob. Amelia doesn’t really understand a lot of the wedding terms and takings some, well most, of the sayings literally which creates a hilarious storyline. After Amelia, her aunts, mom, and grandmother go shopping for the perfect wedding dress for Aunt Mary, they go to the beach where her and Bob fell in love. When they get there they see bob leaving with another woman and Mary is ready to call the wedding off. Amelia sees one of her sailing instructors, Pearl, and runs off to sail away with her. When they get to an island they see Bob and the other woman. They come to find out he is remodeling the family beach house with his niece, the other woman, as a surprise present to Mary for the wedding. They swear to keep it a secret from Aunt Mary. She tells her mom about it and they convince Mary to keep the wedding plans. After many mishaps on the wedding day, Mary and Bob are happily married.

Questions:
1. Would you have told Aunt Mary about Bob and his niece? Why or why not?
2. What inferences can you make about Bob’s love for Mary?
3. What was the funniest part of Amelia’s misunderstandings and why?
4. Why do you think Amelia takes everything so literally?
5. How would you feel if you were Aunt Mary and seen a girl you didn’t know walking out with your future husband?

Amelia's aunt is getting married and she’s not only going to be the flower girl at the wedding but she's going to help prepare and plan it. On the days leading up to the wedding, they hit a few bumps along the road like a broken bridge (the only source of transportation), a ripped wedding dress, and a lost wedding ring.

The book's sparkly and colorful covers caught my attention. I read this with my girlfriend's little sister and one thing that struck her was the name of Amelia’s dog, Finally. She found it hilarious whenever a character would exclaim “finally!” and the dog would come running even if they weren’t referring to him.

I’m giving the book four stars because I enjoyed the family's sense of humor and wit. Amelia reminded me a lot of myself as I was also a curious and hyper active child but her parents could always handle it. I read a few of the classic Amelia Bedelia books when I was younger, those were the types of books I could read over and over again and not get bored but I would probably read this newer version I once more max.
