**STANDALONE NOVEL**

Who says a wild heart can’t be tamed?

For years, I lived for the job and let it control me. Violence was all I knew. I protected, killed, and served. My name is Blake Evans, one of the best undercover cops in the country. I thought I was about to live a quiet life on my ranch in Wyoming until an old friend showed up and changed everything. He brought me her, Hadley Rivers, country music sensation and the one woman I couldn't have. I didn't want her but she had me completely roped in.

My job is to protect her, to keep her away from some psycho who wants her for himself. However, there's more to her story than I was led to believe. I promised to keep her safe and I won't back down . . . even if I have to die trying. I can't let him have her.

Roped In is book two in the Armed & Dangerous series by L.P. Dover. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley, Red Coat PR and by L.P. Dover.

This is my first ever book by L.P. Dover and I will be definitely interested to read other work of hers. Most know I have a thing for sexy cowboys and that is the first thing that drew me to this book, the cover. This book is full of twists and turns and I would classify it as romantic suspense.

The Mall of Faith | The Mall of Faith:

Hadley Rivers is the newest on the rise country music star. She thinks nothing of performing in front of thousands of screaming fans. But along with the thrill of having her fans love her music comes the down side of being a celebrity. She has a stalker. Her father has been receiving threats on her life and he has hired her a body guard. In one night, her stalker changed her life when he breached her security.

Hadley is sent away in protective custody until they can catch her attacker. So she is sent to Wyoming to stay with a rancher/semi retired under cover cop that still does jobs on the side. Even though Hadley doesn’t like having to run away and hide, she really does look forward to some peace and quiet away from her hectic life.

“Players don’t fall in love. It would ruin their game.”
Maybe you’re right. I’m not the kind of guy who can be tamed.”

Blake Evans loves the peace and beauty of his Wyoming ranch. Working with horses full time is something he has always wanted to be able to do. Having a Hollywood music star expecting to be treated as such is something he does not want or need. He couldn’t have been more surprised, though, with the sort of person Hadley turned out to really be. She was down to earth, worked hard, and seemed to love the beauty of his ranch as much as he did. Blake did everything he could in the beginning to put her off, almost succeeding in running her off. But these two grew on each other, the chemistry evident from the start.

“Life is about risks. I want to take this risk with you.”

During the time Blake and Hadley are on the ranch together, feelings bloom between them. But Blake is a tough guy rancher/cop and Hadley is a celebrity. How could this ever work?

This book is full of unexpected twists and turns, especially during the second half. I have to say I didn’t expect the way things went at all. And I loved the epilogue. It was perfect. I do have to admit that although I did love Hadley and Blake, and their relationship was definitely hot! I didn’t feel them as much as I wanted to. The best way I can describe it is they didn’t make me ‘sigh.’ With that being said, though, this was an excellent book full of surprises and sweet moments that kept me turning the pages. As I said before, it was my first book by this author and I definitely want to explore more of her work.

Audiobook review. Blake and Hadley were very entertaining. Blake actually starts off by being a judgmental prick when they meet. He gives her a real hard time because of some assumptions he's made. When she finally has had enough, he realizes he was wrong. I loved their chemistry. Their interactions had sweet and funny undertones that made the love believable. The plot was full of some outrageous elements but somehow, I wasn't turned off. There was always just enough to keep me grounded and focused. The twist was good. The pacing was done well. The prose excellent. The love scenes were scorching hot. Makes a girl wanna get her own cowboy. :-p The ending was cute and the epilogue tied it up nicely, though it was predictable. I am interested in finding out more about the secondary characters so I will definitely be following up with this series. The narrators did a good job though the female voice took me a bit to get used to. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing despite others being interested in our MCs. No rape, though there is the threat of it and our h is forced to kiss OM. No physical abuse.

Sometimes life becomes a mess just for your to find what you actually need instead of settling for what you think you like. Hadley is a rising country singer that is dating a rising star hockey player, at least for show, while dealing with a deadly stalker. Eventually the situation gets out of control and she's shipped off to hide at Blake's Wyoming ranch.

Blake didn't want to take the job and is nothing but a surly jerk the moment he meets Hadley. He can't help but notice how gorgeous she is but that doesn't stop him from trying to push her. Hadley gives him sass back in spades and eventually calls him on crap. The two push each other's buttons but there's no denying the undercurrent of attraction.

Hadley was told to not get close because Wyoming and Blake were a temporary thing but Hadley can't seem to help herself. Blake knows he has no business with a country star and that soon she'll be leaving and he'll use his 10 million dollars to do things on the ranch. Both can't help but want one another which further pulls them into uncharted waters, falling in love.

I liked the read which is why it got 3.5 stars from me. I suppose the reason it didn't rank higher was partially because it felt rushed, I've noticed a lot of books lately feel rushed to me, and because I wasn't completely sucked in. I was easily able to put my iPad down, make dinner, and them resume reading. Normally I have a fit when I'm in the middle of a really good book and have to stop. The book was good but not great.

This book…There were definitely good parts for me and bad.

Starting from the beginning of the story, I absolutely loved Hadley with Nick. I loved everything about them…except that they weren’t real. I totally fell for him and wanted them to become a real couple. I could actually feel the chemistry between them leap off of my kindle.

The suspense storyline started off with a bang…literally. Even though I had just met the characters, it was very distressing to see what happened to Nick and Hadley’s bodyguard Simon. I felt so bad for Hadley, that a) she went through that and b) was pulled away from Nick before being able to find out if he was going to be ok. Sticking with this thought for a moment, I almost felt like I’d been dropped into Hadley & Nick’s story in the middle of their story. They would have made a great story, with the attack being a big turning point for them and the book. But after Hadley was pulled away from Nick, she was put in protective custody and she met the character that takes the cake in the jerk department.

I honestly can’t remember a character that I’ve hated more. And he’s supposed to be a GOOD GUY. While reading this with my friend Jenn, we were talking about how his words and actions reminded us of KA guys. And they did, only worse. KA’s guys often tick me off with how they treat the heroines in the books, and Blake was right up with them. But what made him so much worse for me was that he had no reason or basis for treating Hadley so badly. It was all preconceived notions and just being a jerk. She had just been through so much and he was set on punishing her for something that wasn’t her fault. She did nothing wrong. Yet he decided she was a pampered city princess and needed to be punished for that. He didn’t even take time to get to know her.

Consequently, after he realized he’s been a huge asshole, he did a total 180 and all of a sudden, he’s attracted to her and into her. I didn’t buy it for a second. I just didn’t feel any connection between them. And I thought their ILU was way too soon in the book.

The book was tanking, and fast…until there was a twist. Around the 60% mark, the stalker case looks like it’s closed…and I was disappointed. I mean, if the story is over by 60%, then what’s left!? There was some unnecessary drama but then the story took a twist. And it was fantastic! The twist totally saved the book for me. I loved every moment of the stalker storyline. That may sound weird, but the author did a great job with it.

Overall, while I had issues, the suspense storyline definitely made up for it. I would definitely like to see what happens to Nick. I really did love him and want him to get a HEA.

The story was about a country singer who is being stalked. The plot was good and the storyline captured my attention. The book is written by a dual POV and it is nicely done as well. However I couldn’t feel the book or the connection among the heroes. I don’t want to give any spoilers away but I cannot understand how you ask to give a try to a relationship and to the feelings you have for each other the moment you are holding the d**k of the guy! I think you just change the lever of the relationship in this way!

Hadley is a stronger girl. She may be famous but she is a down to earth person. I liked her. However there were points that her comments felt totally out of place. For example, in the hospital she has the time to say hello to the teammates of Nick and then wishes them good luck with the games when Nick is in coma and she hasn't seen him yet!

Blake is amazing! He is a totally badass guy! Although he comes out a bit strong and difficult, you have to like him!

The end of the book was full of action! The last 50 pages were really full of suspense, action and surprises. It’s just a pity that the intimate scenes among the heroes weren’t so well thought, when the plot and the storyline were really promising!

I really liked this book! At first, I wasn't really a big fan of Blake. He seemed like an ass and he wasn't very nice to Hadley but he ended up being one of those jerks you love. This story is really suspenseful, it grabs your attention on the first page and there were twists and turns I wasn't expecting. I really loved the connection between Blake and Hadley. There was a lot of sexual tension but they had a very sweet romance. Plus, the sexy scenes were super hot! I really liked this book a lot and can't wait to read more by this author!

ARC received for review

First time I've read this author, and I loved it. I didn't even know this was a series. Not lost at all by starting out with the second book cause no one from the first was talked about.

Great story with an amazing hero and a talented heroine. There was lots of adventure, intrigue, hot sex, and fabulous friends/colleagues. I never saw him as the bad guy. I mean never. Nice epilogue to finish it off.

description

Hadley is a country star with a stalker. She has a 'boyfriend', who I totally took to right away- and really, overall, fell in love with and felt a connection to. She ends up in a situation that puts her in the hands of Blake, the guy who will 'protect' her until all is well and that ends well. The problem? Blake. He has preconceived notions about Hadley and lets just say they don't start off on the right foot.

Roped In was a mixed bag for me. While there were parts I liked, there were parts I had issue with. It was definitely a tale that was stuck on fast-forward. Over all, what I enjoyed the most was the story-line that came around the 60% mark. Though, I really liked how the start of the story took off- I wasn't a fan of where Hadley ended up right after that. That part of the story had good potential. I just didn't like how the story told itself during that time frame, and I felt someone else was an unnecessary part and could have been cut from the book, as they didn't add to the story-line or story later. During this time frame, I also felt that the 'professionals' lacked professionalism around a client with the way they talked. I hate to say it but I also felt like Blake, the best there is, wasn't that great of a bodyguard.

However, a big positive with the story would be:
I loved the twist with the main events and how that played out- though at times it felt a little hokey- it was still a great part of the story and I wished that had been the main focus, or how the story basically was told from the start.

One of my biggest complaints, besides the lack of professionalism with the professionals, was Blake's voice. For the majority of the story I felt like he didn't have his own unique voice in the story and sometimes he felt a bit childish to me. By the end, I admit- I liked the emotions that finally felt real to me when he thought something specific had happened to Hadley.

What I liked:
1. NICK - such a connection I felt to him. He needs his own story.
2. Nick's hockey team and how they bonded with Hadley
3. Chapter 38-I totally was channeling Ellen Degeneres's voice during that time.
4. Connor
5. I had some real emotions for the situation with Simon and Nick at the start.
6. The twist and the story-line that came around 60%
7. The overall idea of the story.
8. Blake and Hadley more towards the middle to end of the story.

Total DNF!! I am so disappointed I don't know what to say! I've read other books by this author and have loved them! This one though, was just not good. I didn't care about Hadley, she seemed weak and whiny and scared, and Blake was such an ass! There are asses that are asses because they are hot and sexy and you're into that, and then there are just asses and he was just an ass. I wanted to like him so much because, come on, he's a cowboy! And a trained killer! Sexy combination! Or at least it should have been. I did not sense any sort of real connection between these characters. They were at each other's throats and then all of a sudden he's nice to her because he finally did some research? He should have done it in the first place if he's supposed to be protecting her. Pretty lame he knew nothing about her before. And then once he's nice to her all the times he was a dick are all forgotten? She just forgave him. I think she should have been feistier and mouthier from the beginning. I really do love books with mouthy leading ladies and possessive, jealous, over the top protective alpha males, and I felt like this book was trying to do all of those things, but just fell extremely short. I wanted to like it, but in the end, I couldn't even get halfway through because I just didn't care.

This was a good book. Although this is the second book in the series, it a standalone. Roped In has action, suspense, murder, kidnapping, romance and betrayal. This book wasn't my favorite, but I did enjoy reading it. Hadley and Blake were cute together once Blake stop judging her for being a Hollywood star. Hadley was actually down to earth and a pretty likable character. Blake was a hot possessive alpha male. All in all this story got 3 solid stars from me. A quick and easy read. Enjoy!

Where are more of those cowboys at?? I need a personal trainer to ride a uhm horse..

Just what I needed. A breath of fresh air.. I was so eager to delve into this one because it's been a while since I've read a cowboy type book. And now, after ROPED IN? I can see how much I have missed those country boys and their sexiness..

Blake isn't just another country boy though. He moved to the farm lifestyle but grew up in the city, where he was part of the protective services. That combination alone just spells out trouble for the next girl that he is bound to have to keep safe. Add to that his sinful mouth, godly looks and an attitude to outrun any bad boy? Yeah, I was wishing Hadley all the best of luck.

Hadley is a world famous singer who among her many problems, ends up being the victim of a car and mouse with a stalked who ended up killing her dear friend and almost had her long life best friend dead too. But luckily he is alive, barely. Now, trying to steer clear of a death of her own, she is sent to be under Blakes protection..

Oh boy.

He wants nothing to do with another bratty pop star who is bound to make his life a living hell. THAT is until he meets her..

She sees past his arrogance and bad boy attitude and decides to give him a taste of his own medicine..

In the process, Hadley ends up showing Blake how down to earth, sweet, smart and all round bad ass she is. Despite everything that she went through and what could have happened to her that night, Blake can only begin by admiring her strength.

It goes without saying that some of those sexy times and sexy minds will play a role between them. BUT it doesn't pan out how you might think it would. Nope. L.P. Dover sure knows how to mess with our minds, hearts and emotions...

HEARTBREAKING.

DARK.

SEXY.

HOT.

SINFUL.

FUNNY.

ADDICTIVE.

INTERESTING.

UNIQUE.

SURPRISING.

STRONG.

EMOTIONAL.

I truly loved every aspect of this story. I was grabbed in interest from the first chapter and I never lost sight in wanting, no NEEDING to know what will happen till the very end. And that surely was an emotional journey.

THANK YOU L.P. Dover for the ARC of this incredible story. It brought tears to my eyes at the same time that I got chills and laughed like an idiot. I definitely think that spells out the best possible way to experience a book!! Not to mention the eye candy. Oh dear lord. All the puns that come to mind when a cowboy is in my uhmm hands? I mean kindle, IN MY KINDLE... What I wouldn't do to be whisked away into the country with the protective hands of Blake.. Huston we have a problem! My mind is not leaving the gutter. At all. I'm done.

Looking forward in one clicking everything that comes with your name!! I adored ROPED IN and cannot wait to read it again and again.. ;)

This book dragged until about 65%. The author didn't create these characters well enough in her head for their actions to make sense, so the majority of the book felt artificial. It started well. A nice girl in trouble, a big bad protector. Then chapter 6, the girl becomes mean, on the offense, for no reason. And for $10M, he's not at least polite? Chapter 7, Blake can't wait to get back into undercover work, but in previous chapters he's glad to be out of it and excited to follow his grandfather's legacy. Then they go from enemies to friends to wannabe lovers in a long distance relationship in 2 days. 2 days! With no interaction to explain! And frankly, I wouldn't want Blake protecting my dog; he's not very watchful, and certainly not worth $10M. Why would Hadley think Blake isn't getting paid to house, feed, and protect her? Plus the author has never laid her bare skin on hay.

----SPOILERS----
Hadley is a rising country star. She finishes a concert in LA and jumps into Nick Myers's arms. He's a hockey star, brother of her agent Felicity, and pretending to be her boyfriend because she's got a psycho stalker. They've been best friends for 2 years. Her bodyguard is Scott Wilson; he's waiting at the car. Dad hired Scott because Hadley looks just like her mom, who died of cancer 2 years ago, and Dad wants her safe. They go home, Scott goes to his apartment above the garage, and Nick says he wants to make their fake relationship real. She doesn't want to risk what they already have, and had made sure to not get feelings for him. The house is dark. They hear footsteps upstairs. Nick says get out. Scott comes, sends her to the MMA neighbors Gabby and Paxton, and goes in. She calls the cops, the neighbors go to her house, so she follows. Three gunshots. Scott's dead, Nick is dying, Paxton runs out the back door after the shooter.

Nick and Felicity are at the hospital, Chief Robert Wilson has already contacted her dad. They're sending her to Wyoming, not even her dad will know where she is. She'll miss Scott's funeral, Nick will be recuperating without her, and her tour will have to be rescheduled. She'll sleep at chief's house tonight, have new identity in the morning.

Blake loves working on his ranch in Wyoming. Tyla Rand is teaching him how to break horses. Roger Wilson calls him. He'd be excited to go after the shooter, not at all about hosting Hadley.

Hadley didn't sleep at all, cried all night. Felicity calls with news: Nick's in a medical coma, had to be resuscitated during 1 surgery. Hadley's coming to visit, regardless of paparazzi. She goes downstairs. Logan Chandler is there to escort her to Wyoming. Despite the Chief's Minion pajamas, she goes with Logan on his motorcycle to the hospital. He tells her to fumble with the helmet straps until they're in the elevator. Nick's team is there. She hugs Tristan and the brothers Kip and Dawson. She tells them to have hope and that she'll be watching their games from wherever she is. She goes in Nick's room, holds his hand, gives him a kiss on the forehead. She said goodbye to Felicity, please take calls from untraceable numbers.

Blake broke Trent Singleton's nose last night over Rayna. Blake is training Snowflake for an 8yo girl. Tyla has to go to California for a couple weeks. Logan shows up, Hadley stays in the car. Blake won't take the job until Logan says her dad is paying $10M. He'll protect her but he won't be her servant. Logan escorts Hadley in, she hugs him goodbye, wishing he could protect her but he's got a mission. He tells her not to take Blake's crap. Blake makes assumptions: “You see me as a dirty, worthless cowboy who doesn’t know anything other than shoveling shit and playing in the dirt. I’m a trained killer, princess. The government calls me in to solve cases they can’t. But yet, here I am . . . babysitting you. It’s a @#$& joke.” “So keeping me safe is a joke? I’m here because Robert says you’re the best.” He says stay and do chores.

15yo Jerrod Kalani comes in the mornings to do chores. He gets paid and stays out of trouble. He likes stories of undercover work. Blake makes Hadley clean out stalls, wondering how long until she breaks.

A week later, she calls Felicity. She can handle physical work, but verbal jabs hurt. No change in Nick. Blake's being mean. Instead of the jerky and water he left for dinner, she makes eggs, bacon, and biscuits. He comes in, excited about the smell. She's eaten it all, tosses him the jerky, and leaves.

The next day, she shovels stalls, then he tells her to do all his laundry and clean his room for a date tonight. She leaves in a huff, locks her door, calls a cab and starts packing. “I’m a big girl, Mr. Evans. I can take care of myself. I don’t need you to keep me safe. But I have to say, I’m sorely disappointed.” “With what?” “Robert talked so highly of you, saying you were the best. I guess I didn’t expect you to be such an inconsiderate” jerk. She goes to a hotel, calls Logan.

Blake finally reads her file and realizes how stupid he's been. “I thought she was going to be a spoiled bitch who needed to be put in her place. I was just testing her.” Logan: “And what did you find out?” “That I’m a…idiot.” He's in the room next to hers. He put something in her sheets; it gives her hives. He tells her there was no date, he was trying to get a rise out of her. He gets her to come home willingly by threatening to tie her up. On the way home, he goes into a doctor's office. She calls Felicity. They hope Nick wakes soon. Felicity wants her in the family. At home, Blake puts the meds on her back. He says Let's go shopping tomorrow, hiking the day after. Robert calls; the suspect tried to get into her house, but left before police got there.

Blake's grateful she shops for clothes quickly. She can't make quick decisions on ice cream. He takes her to the store of his friend Mitch Bennett, who says she's prettier than that country singer. While Mitch shows her around, Rayna accosts Blake. Hadley scares her off by saying she's Blake's girlfriend, then tells Mitch she's not. Blake's from North Carolina.

They go hiking the next day. The bet is, if she complains or can't keep up, she has to cook dinner the rest of the time she's there (she was going to do that anyway); if she wins, he has to wear pointy pink Mexican boots. They talk about Nick. The lake is pretty. She tries to sneak up on him to put snow down his back, but he tackles her. He kisses her. She wins the bet.

While he's grilling and she's boot shopping, he gets a call from her dad. Dad tells Blake he gets threats on her life every week (she doesn't know). Money's paid. The chief calls; they found a cigarette lighter.

Tyla's back. She takes her riding for the first time. Tyla will nudge Nick toward Hadley at the bar. At the bar, she meets more of his friends. Tyla gets her 2 drinks, says Sebastian will soon ask Hadley to dance. Mitch does first, Blake intervenes because she's drunk. A relationship would never work. She cries in the bathroom. A man grabs her as she leaves, he won't let go, she hair sprays him and kicks him in the groin before Blake gets there. Blake hauls Trent outside and beats him up. They go home, she disrobes when he gets out of the shower, he turns her away.

Hadley avoids Blake for 2 days. He goes to the store, she hides when he gets back, but he finds her. At least I was brave enough to let you in. She stomps away, he lassos her back, they have sex on hay bales and he immediately apologizes for rudeness the other day. Tyla comes in the barn.

She writes a song that night. He gives her his grandfather's new guitar. It's better than the one she has. He gets the shower going for them both while she calls Felicity. Nick answers, talks to her, Blake leaves, the team is with Nick. She tries to find Blake, he's ridden off, lyrics come into her head. He's back, doesn't want her parading around on media with Nick, doesn't share. She agrees.

2 days later, Blake is jealous. He wants Hadley to stop leading Nick on. Chief calls. Looks like the guy is Dane from her coffee shop. He's gone to New York. Blake won't let her go home until he's seen the file; he'd been wrongly accused of murder.

2 weeks later, his boots arrive. She wants to see him walk around town for an hour, then dance alone. His boots are so long, she has to drive. She gets loads of pictures of people laughing. He dances to Cotton Eye Joe. Liam, his friend and doctor, enjoys it. They go home, make love.

They're watching TV when a live feed of a car chase comes on. It's Dane. He dies. She's not leaving for a couple of weeks, though, avoiding press.

2 weeks later, Blake is losing Snowflake and Hadley. Mason Bradley calls Blake with a job in Texas. The chief will have to escort her home. Hadley's decided to sell her house. Blake drives them to the middle of nowhere for a picnic. He says I love you, they make love, he gives her an amethyst necklace, she says I love you.

Tyla knows she's really Hadley. She says Hadley doesn't have to live in Hollywood; Hadley says I'd stay if he asked me to. Blake kisses Hadley goodbye. Chief and Dad are there. Dad's not happy about kiss. I didn't pay you to take advantage of her. You were paid? Dad tells her Blake can't be an undercover cop if he's linked to her. She breaks up on voice mail and won't return his calls.

A week later, when his mission is done, he leaves her a message: "I choose you, Hadley. As long as I have you, nothing else matters. If you don’t want me, that’s fine, but I want you to say it to my face." Hadley tells Nick about Blake, he storms off, she sends hockey friends to keep him safe. The media paints her an adulterer.

After NY concert, Nick's backstage. He's OK, told press it was amicable, she'd been honest the whole time. She gets in car, texts Blake she'll be at hotel in 15, Connor (new bodyguard) got her ginger ale, she's drugged, car crashes in flames.

Blake is a violent mess in the police station. The car burned up with no witnesses. Her necklace is there. Blake is going to figure it out, doesn't want Nick's help. He cries at the crash site. Nick comes. He says Hadley's dad left and would be back for the funeral. That's not normal.

Blake discovers dad took out $5M the day Hadley was killed. Logan sends video that shows Connor crashed the car, got out, picked Hadley up and put her in another car. Somebody else dumped ashes in their seats.

Hadley wakes up in a nice house. Dad says Connor lost control of the car, and they're in Canada. The media is following Blake around and that's why he's not here. Dad leaves, Connor defers getting a phone. She realizes she's in a prison set up. She gets drugged at lunch. Connor: “Of course, she’s going to ask questions. You’ve known Hadley for how long now? She’ll be pissed when she finds out.” The other guy snorted. “She can blame that on her father. Besides, once we get to Ireland and she sees everything I can give her, she’ll be all mine.” Someone's going to kill lover boy.

Blake gets a call: be ready, they're coming for you. Connor is with the Irish mafia. They set the bed up to look like someone's sleeping in it, then ambush the guy who comes in to shoot. Blake almost kills him, trying to get information. He calls Mason for cleanup while he does more investigation. They figure out they're holding her in Canada, Nick says let me call my best friend who lives in Canada. Surprised, it's the same city. Surprise, his friend's picture is associated with Connor.

Connor tells Hadley her dad's responsible for this. He's tired of getting threats on her life. He advises her to do what he says because he's the only one on her side is now. He takes her to lunch. With Tristan. Things go awry, Tristan knows she knows, and Connor's and her dad's lives are in danger. Tristan: “I don’t want to force you, love. If I have to, I will. But I want you to enjoy this as much as I do. All you have to do is give me a chance and I’ll make sure everyone you love and care about stays safe. Defy me and you’ll see how ruthless I can get.” Tristan was the stalker all along, and the one sending the death threats.

Blake and Nick watch Dad come for a visit. Connor calls, but he didn't have new information for Blake. Blake teaches Nick how to hold a gun. Connor joins them, having avoided being killed. They get into the house through Hadley's bedrooms window, but she's not there. Blake heads upstairs to get her, Nick goes to get her dad, and Connor goes to get revenge (he'd lost someone).

Nick kills the guy guarding the bedroom door, gets Hadley out. They help Nick untie her dad, and are going out the front door when Shades points his gun at Nick and Tristan aims at Blake. Hadley says she'll go with Tristan if he'll set them free. Tristan shoots her dad in the leg to teach her to be more obedient. Then he cold cocks Blake on the head. She throws a Celtic cross at Tristan, who ducks, but it gives Blake the lead he needs. Pretty soon Blake and Tristan are fighting while Nick and Shades do. Connor pulls Hadley back, hands her his phone and says get out, then enters the fray. She hears gunshots, goes in and there's blood everywhere. Nick has been shot in the shoulder and is waning. She goes to him, they get Dad, and head out to the place the guys had been watching the house from all day. She picks up an extra gun and goes back in. Blake is pummeling Tristan and doesn't see Shades with a gun behind him. She shoots Shades, and Connor finishes him off. Blake is going to shoot Tristan, Connor says I'll take care of it. Connor is Tristan's uncle. Tristan raped Connor's girl, then killed her, but she'd already written a letter to Connor about it. She had been pregnant with Connor's baby. Connor kills Tristan. When his people find out, his brother will kill him. They agree to lie that he died.

Blake won't let Hadley be in a different exam room than he is. Dad's lucky to be alive, getting drugs flushed from system still. Nick will heal in time for next season. Blake wisely asks for patience as he learns to live with media. She loves his ranch; it's home. Felicity yells at Nick for getting shot again, then sees Hadley.

The next day, Felicity and Nick head home. Blake and Hadley wait another day until Dad is ready to go. The doctor lets them eat in a room adjacent to dad's to avoid press in the cafeteria. They make love, then the doctor knocks to say dad is awake. They talk forgiveness, no more interfering, get stories straight.

2 weeks later, she's on her first talk show. They show a picture of Blake in his Mexican boots. She sings the song she wrote about him; the audience loves it. The hostess brings out Blake. He answers questions. Then he proposes.

8 months later, he's built her a guest house with a recording studio. He has another surprise for her: Connor is his new ranch hand and extra security. Blake and Hadley get married the next week.

Roped In is a hot and sexy romance that is full of suspense!

Hadley Rivers is a country star and seems to be living the life. She’s “dating” Nick (famous hockey player) and touring the country. Thing is Nick is just her friend and their romance is just for show to help keep a deadly stalker away. When things go horribly wrong Hadley is sent into protective custody in Wyoming. Blake turned down the job of protecting Hadley, so he was not happy when Logan showed up at his house with Hadley with him. At first Blake is a Grade A jerk to Hadley, thinking she’s a spoiled brat. But as the days go on he sees that Hadley really isn’t who he thought she was.

Hadley and Nick are definitely attracted to one another, and you can tell it’s not “if” they will hook up, it’s “when”. Once Blake stops being a jerk to Hadley, and starts showing him who he really is, it was awesome to see the turn around in their relationship. The bet they made had me laughing hysterically when it came to own up to the stakes. Even though Hadley and Nick end up in a happy little bubble out in Wyoming, things are still a mess in California. Her stalker is still out there and people are wanting Hadley back.

When things finally get settled my heart broke for Hadley and Blake when they said goodbye. She on her way to California to start working again, and Blake to Texas to work another job. They loved one another, but needed to separate for a while to do their work. When life gets going again for each character, things go horribly wrong for Hadley. I adored how Blake refused to give up on Hadley. When he works with an unlikely partner, the search for Hadley is on. Hadley wakes up in her own hell and the only thing she wants is to get back to Blake. Things are not right in her world, and when she learns of the lies and deceit that has surrounded her for years. It really hurt to see who all was involved in making her life hell.

Roped In was full of sexy scenes and a bunch of suspense. I was trying to figure out who was involved with the stalking throughout the whole book. I adored Nick, Blake and Hadley and their stories. The last half of the book moved extremely fast and was full of twists and turns. I must say I loved the epilogue of this book, but I wish we would have had more moments like that throughout the entire story. If you’re looking for a hot and heavy suspense filled read, I highly suggest getting your copy of Roped In today!

4.5 Stars Simply Beautiful

I was graciously given an ARC of this book and what a great story it was. I can't say that I am surprised because L.P. Dover writes some of the most beautiful, sexy, amazing stories and so this is just another example of her polished writing skills.......simply beautiful!

I just love when I read a story where I love BOTH the H and the h and yep, these two were super sexy, super sweet, and just super great together! This is not a real love triangle but does border on the edge, at least on one side, wink, wink and as much as I LOVED Blake, I freaking adored and swooned hard over Nick!!!! OMG, I couldn't choose myself, I would have to have both of them, lololol, but the heart wants what the heart wants and I loved that Hadley was always open and honest and I loved her genuine warmth, she was beautiful woman inside and out! Now Blake, oh my, he was perfect. He was brooding, sweet, sexy and just a great and beautiful man inside and out in every way!

This story was action packed and by that I mean I was glued from start until finish. I literally was on the edge of my seat and although it wasn't too over the top on drama and angst, at least for me, it had just enough to keep it quite mysterious until the very end. I also love that L.P. Dover brought in a few characters from previous books, I just love when an author can somehow tie in characters from previous books, it's brilliant!

Why not a full 5 stars, well, for me I wanted a bit more time for these 2 beautiful souls and by that, I mean that it all happened a bit too fast for my own personal liking and I would have liked to have seen their time together span a bit longer during the story if that makes sense. I loved the ending and it fit perfectly! Now Tyla, oh, I think I have a girl crush on her and I hope and have my fingers crossed for her story soon:)

Congrats L.P. Dover on another home run for me! I can't wait for more and look forward to seeing where this series goes in the future.

A friend & I buddy read this. These are our thoughts.

A review in two parts:

To 65(ish)%:

Awesome. Clever, non-cliché, funny and engaging. Likeable characters, to whom you almost instantly form an attachment, making the edge-of-your-seat set-up for Hadley and Blake's 'meet-cute' all the more heart-pounding.

Hot chemistry between the two leads, even as they needle each other makes the capitulation into sex, then a relationship all sweeter. Then...

From 65(ish)% onward:

Messy, melodramatic and too weighed down with extraneous, over-the-top plot points that counteract the excellent first half of the book. It's easy to get lost in this book's conclusion, but not in the way a book should 'lose' you. Not in the dreamy, all the feels way. Sadly, in the 'did I miss something?' way, which leaves you feeling cold and disappointed that a book that was bordering on 5-stars for the majority just falls into a complete hole.

This book would have benefitted greatly from the 'less is more' approach. Or the 'before you leave, remove one thing' theory that applies to fashion. Although it would have benefited from the removal of more than one thing...

We wanted to love it. In fact, we fell in love with the beginning. But fell completely out of it by the beginning of second half. We must have just read something different.

I'm not sure what's happening here, but it seems to be getting worse. Good authors are writing seemingly rushed novels. Glossed-over details, familiar plots, insta-love after one night together, stilted dialogue... If the second half wasn't better than the first, the rating would be much lower.

I'm also unsure of why authors feel the need to make male leads act like almost irredeemable assholes. Blake fit the asshole category, and I'm not sure he really redeemed himself by the end.

What organization do all these guys work for? They say they're undercover cops, yet they do all this traveling for whom? No jurisdictions to follow and a mysterious boss? It seems a little unbelievable.

Even though the last half of the book is better than the first, there was an angle that caused me to question the credibility of certain plot points. In order to avoid spoilers, I'll leave those details out of my review. But I will say this: it's a good thing not many people know about certain organizations. Otherwise suspending disbelief may be difficult. I wonder why that plot point was necessary to lead the story.

I don't feel like I wasted time reading this, but I do wish someone would encourage Ms. Dover to take a little more time fleshing out relationships to make the reader more invested in wanting the couple to succeed.

Heat: 2.5
POV: Dual
Theme/Tropes: cowboys, rockstars, stalkers
My thoughts; Ok, Roped In started off not as interesting to me. Rockstar with a stalker. Not that original. Has to hide out with a bad ass cop/cowboy. Yep, read that one too. And by about 50% in, I was just not feeling it. I didn't really like the relationship between Blake and Hadley. It just didn't feel real to me. I felt like they weren't developed enough for me to believe their relationship was real. Then, the book took a turn I was NOT expecting. I totally did not see the plot twist happening. The second half of the book is suspense and action that kept me guessing and reading. By the end, I believed the relationship between Blake and Hadley. Roped In started off meh for me but I am glad I stuck with it because the second 1/2 of the book was original and refreshing!

I enjoyed this one. It gets kind of boring from about 30-60% mark, but then picks up and it's pretty action packed until the end. I received a free copy from Bookbub, and switched between the ebook, and audio. (audible escapes) The book had a bit of an "unrealistic" feel with some of the action, and characters, but if you don't take is too seriously you'll be good to go. The books in the series are standalone, but I think you might see glimpses of the men show up in each. I started with book 2, and don't feel like I missed anything. *spoilers are tagged-but they won't be hidden on the app*

Hadley is a country star on the rise with a stalker. Blake is an undercover cop, but not your average cop. I believe he's some kind of independent contractor that travels everywhere taking down the bad guys. He has mad skills, and friends that can get shit done.

The book isn't a love triangle, but there is this "Nick" part that I thought was a bit weird. At the start of the book we learn that Nick (a pro hockey player) is her pretend boyfriend, but he would like it to be more. He's really sweet, but she's not feeling it. Pretty early on there is an "event" that requires her to go into hiding. Blake is not crazy about babysitting Hadley at his ranch. He actually tells his friend no, but he shows up with her in tow. He gives her a hard time for the first few days because of some assumptions he's made about her being a spoiled rich girl. It's nothing terrible, and they move on from it pretty quickly.

There isn't any major issues for the couple-not much if any angst. Around the 60% mark the "stalker" issue gets going, and the plot switches from couple time to more action/mystery. Overall, not a bad read, and the audio is pretty good. (dual narration by Joe Arden & Maxine Mitchell)

Several of the reviews I read wished Nick would get his own book, (which wouldn't work because he's not armed or dangerous:) or a desire to know what happened to him. This confuses me because we see him again, and there isn't any drama there. The author gives an update of him in the last chapter. I just didn't understand the point of his character. We're told how much he loves her, but he gets over everything super quick, so there isn't any drama or guilt regarding him. His part for the last chunk of the book was so unrealistic that I felt it would have worked better for Logan to take that role.

LP Dover is an author I enjoy, but for some reason never get to read as much as I would like.

Roped In is an interesting twist on a concept seen before (famous person falling for their bodyguard) that was a lot of fun. Hadley and Blake were entertaining characters, but I would have liked to get to know them a little better. This read felt a bit as if character development took a back seat to the action oriented plot.

The plot was the strong suit of the story in Roped In, the suspense elements were strong and kept me guessing until the very end.

Other than one intimate scene in the hospital that seemed a bit out of place, my only “complaint” about Roped In was that I wanted a bit more, especially in terms of character and relationship development.

3.5 sexy cowboy stars
A cowboy and a bodyguard all wrapped up in one sexy as all hell package, that’s Blake Evans. Tasked with protecting country music singer Hadley Rivers, and he’s not too happy about it. Hate soon turns into something more and a friendship ensues, Blake refusing to let them have anything more, no matter the chemistry between them. A few twists and turns, and yep, we get the sexy time too. An enjoyable story with a little action, intrigue and romance.

Really enjoyed this one. Somewhat different than what I am used to reading from L.P. Dover, yet just as enthralling. Both Blake and Hadley were strong characters. I would definitely recommend this.

Good but...

Yeah, that doesn’t match the one star rating, does it? A good story, I liked the characters but the use of the ‘c’ word lost all the stars. Everyone has something that kills a story for them no matter how good it is. For me, the ‘c’ word is that killer.

Blake Evans is one the best undercover agents in the country and leaves his hometown Charlotte to move to his grandfather’s ranch in Wyoming. When he is not working on a case, he lives a cowboy life training and taming horses. But one day he receives a very special assignment: he will have to protect in his house a country music star.
Hadley Rivers suffers constant threats but lately a stalker is making her life impossible, so much that she agrees to pretend to have a relationship with Nick Meyers, hockey star player and the brother of her agent Felicity in hopes that her stalker will leave her alone. Nick wants to stop pretending and make their relationship real, but she just loves him as a friend. But one night when she comes home a man shoot and kill her bodyguard and seriously injured Nick. That’s why her father takes action in the matter and entrusts her security to Blake in exchange for 10 million until they manage to arrest the stalker.
Blake doesn’t want to accept the mission but his friend Logan Chandler convinces him, but sill makes life impossible for Hadley during the first weeks. He thinks that she is a spoiled brat, so he orders her to clean the stalls and the horse shit and other tasks in the ranch, but Hadley is a resourceful woman and does everything without complaining, and little by little Blake begins to see her differently.
Hadley and Blake are very attracted to each other but he resists since he sees no future. His last serious relationship was with Brooklyn ( his former partner and Jason Avery´s sister, who he cheated on after she was in a serious car accident where she lost her sister). Since then, he has only one-night stands.
But as sees Hadley, he knows that he will have problems keeping his distance, especially when she tries to seduce him by showing up naked in his bed.
The stalker is finally arrested and Hadley returns to her life and Blake goes on a mission to Texas. But just a few days later he comes across devastating news: Hadley and her bodyguard Connor have died in a car accident.
Although he is heartbroken he insists on investigating the accident since his guts tells him that something is not right, but nothing can prepared him for when he discovers the truth about everything that happened.

“Tell me what you want,” he murmured. “I can’t.” “Why?” “Because once I say the words, I can’t take them back.” He brought his hands to my face, his thumbs tracing my cheeks. “Maybe this will help.” His lips closed over mine and I melted against him, willingly giving in. I’d never been kissed like that and I didn’t want it to stop. I wanted more. He pushed his tongue inside and I moaned as the heat rose between my legs. Holy hell, I wanted him. Rocking my hips up into him, I dug my nails in his back and he growled, pulling away. “Fuck, Hadley.” “What’s wrong?” I asked, breathing hard. He brushed the hair off my face and kissed me again. “You make me want things I can’t have.” I nodded. He said exactly what I was thinking. “I know how you feel.”

Hadley bit her lip and dropped the robe she had on. Fuck me. I couldn’t help but gaze down her body as she swayed up to me and pressed her tits against my chest. My dick responded instantly. “I’m going to try this again, Blake. I want you, not just your body, but you. I’ve never felt this excited about anyone before. It has to mean something. You may say you don’t want me, but I think that’s a lie.” She reached between us and wrapped her hand around my cock. I could explode right there on her stomach, but I held it back. Goddamn, this woman was going to kill me. “Stop.” Gritting my teeth, I grabbed her hand and pulled it away. I was either making the worst decision ever, or the best. It felt like the worst; especially when her eyes grew dark. “This isn’t the kind of decision you want to make when you’re drunk. I’m not going to lie, it’s evident I want you, you’re a beautiful woman, but being with me will only fuck you up. I can’t do that to you.”Leaning up on her toes, she grasped my face and squeezed. “I’m not scared. Life is about risks. I want to take this risk with you.”I shook my head. “But I don’t want to take it with you.” It was a lie and I wished I could take it back the moment I said it. The level of hurt on her face would be something I’d always remember.

Out of nowhere, a rope lassoed around my body. I screamed when it bit into my skin, burning as Blake tightened it, roping me in. I struggled to break free, but it was so tight, even my hands started to tingle. I tried to stand my ground, but the harder he pulled, the tighter it got. “Dammit, Blake. Let me go! I can’t feel my hands.”“You shouldn’t have walked away,” he growled, his voice by my ear. He jerked me around and pushed me into one of the empty stalls. I turned my face away, but he grabbed my chin. “I don’t think so, princess. You’re going to look at me when I say this. Do you want me to tie your hands and feet together too?”I had no doubt he’d do it. “Fine,” I spat, lifting my glare to his. “What do you want?” His lips closed over mine, hard and raw as he forced his tongue inside. I tried to fight him off, but it was a half-assed attempt. “You,” he growled, leaning his forehead to mine. “I’ve always wanted you, even when you thought I didn’t.” He loosened the rope and pulled me into his arms, kissing me again.

“That’s not why I’m pissed. I understand he’s your friend and you were worried about him. And I’m also glad to hear he’s awake, that’s great news. But you need to know, I don’t like to share. When you go back home, if you’re planning on parading around in front of the press with him, I don’t think I can do this. It wouldn’t be good for me or you.” I nodded and lowered my head to hide my smile. He was jealous and I loved it. “Are you trying to say you want me to parade around with you?” I asked, meeting his gaze. He huffed. “I don’t know what the fuck I’m trying to say. What I do know is, if we’re starting whatever it is between us, then we’re going to do it right. I want the whole world to know you’re mine.”

“Mr. Evans, I seem to recall paying you to keep her safe, not to take advantage of her.” “Wait, what?” I turned back to Blake. “What is he talking about?” Jaw tense, he returned my father’s glare. “I would never take advantage of your daughter, sir. So don’t come to my house threatening me. You want your money back? Take it, I don’t give a flying fuck about the pay.”“I know that already. What about the money? How much did he give you?” Sighing, he lowered his head. “Ten million.” Mouth gaping, I almost choked on my words. “Is that the only reason you agreed to let me stay?” “Yes.” When I tried to walk away, he grabbed my hand and pulled me into his arms. “Don’t walk away from me, Hadley. I admit, I didn’t want you here in the beginning, but you knew that. I don’t care about the money, I care about you. That’s why I haven’t touched a cent of it. The money isn’t what I fell in love with.” I sagged in his arms and let the tears flow. “Then keep it. I’m sure you’ll find something to do with it.” The horn beeped and I stepped away. “I have to go.”

“I know you cared about her,” Byron called, “but there’s nothing you can do. She’s gone. Killing yourself over this case will only make it worse.”I scoffed. “What’s there to say? Hadley’s dead. She’s fucking gone!”

I was given a copy of Roped In in exchange for an honest review.

Roped In is about a super star singer Hadley Rivers. With all the fame comes the crazies… And Hadley had fallen into the category with a stage 4 clinger stalker. After a stellar performance Hadley comes home with her “boyfriend” to a home invasion of sorts. Hadley’s stalker was in the house and during the confrontation Hadley’s bodyguard and “boyfriend” was shot. Like any over protective father Hadley’s dad sent her to protective custody. Which brings us to the handsome rugged cowboy Blake Evans.. Oh I love a cowboy who can make me swoon just by looks alone… Also he was kinda like a sour patch kid… First he is sour then he was sweet. Blake didn’t want to be a baby sitter to Hadley because he automatically assumed she was a stuck up rich bitch. But things changed when Blake finally saw the light…..

I was very excited to get a chance to read Roped In. I am a huge fan of all of L.P. Dover’s work. I dove right into this book as soon as I got it and for the first half of the book I just couldn’t put it down. I just had to know what was going to happy to Hadley. I loved the first half of this book but at about 65% is when my feelings for this book lessened…. For me I love a good story line with plot twist but I felt that this book had to many twist and turns. I understand that plot twist are great for the story line but I felt as if they lessened the impact of this story. I loved the idea of Hadley and Blake falling for one another with the aspect of a stalker to catch.

I would not say that this is a terrible book I just think that it wasn’t a book for me. I would give it a 3 ½ raindrops because it did have a good story line with a lot of action and romance. If you are a fan of huge action and suspense I would give this book a try.

Just when I think L.P. can not surprise me, she does with this amazing second book of Armed and Dangerous series! This book is about a sexy cowboy and a country singer! Key to my heart is country music and nothing is wrong with an all alpha cowboy in the mix either. She took a character she incorporated from the first book, No Limit, and gave him his own book. I love when authors use characters from other books. They all tie together and it's amazing!

Blake Evans is undercover cop who recently moved to Wyoming to take over his grandfathers ranch. He is all about enjoying the much needed quiet in his life. His job demands a lot out of him, so having the ranch brings him solace.

Hadley Rivers is a famous country singer that lives for her music and her fans. She is truly very talented, writing her own songs. She brings them to life by writing about the people and things around her. She is a low key woman that is very thoughtful of the people in her life.

Hadley has been dealing with a crazy stalker for months and one night everything in her life changes. She is put into protective custody with Blake. Blake wants nothing to do with it because he believes she is an uptight spoiled brat from Hollywood. Once he learns the truth about her, things become a lot easier for the two of them. Their friendship turns into a romance. Their romance is HOT! With the stalker being away, they presume everything is safe until it isn't! Blake does everything in his power to find out the truth about what happens to Hadley.

Can Blake and Hadley make it work? Does it end tragically for Hadley? Will the stalker be caught for once and all?

This book was steamy, suspenseful, and upright amazing! I read this book in less than two hours, I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this book! Another one that was awesome L.P.!
