Alle nyanser av sinne is a short story collection containing small and abrupt stories about how we humans react and how we behave in difficult and abnormal – and normal – situations. It is about the days that did not turn out quite as we thought they would, and about how those days can change the way we think of ourselves and also how we feel about others. The collection encompasses a good mixture of the bizarre and the tragic. And the hard-hitting content matter in some of these stories is balanced out with simple and comprehensible language. At some points I wish the language had been more challenging and poignant. Stagrim uses a lot of repetitions when the story is reaching the turning point, but I wish she had been more innovative and experimental in her writing. Yet, this collection shows a great potential and I am prompted to read her next book.
My favourite story was Det som er deg, og det som er meg in which Stagrim makes something so normal and trivial as an everyday argument into a story with suspense and a significant realization. This is where Stagrim shows her genius in my opinion. Some of the other stories were harder to relate to and even without meaning at times. This is partly because the reader only follows the main characters for a few pages (some of the stories are very short and spanning over a very short time period) and also because she left some parts flat and plane when she could have taken it even further and perhaps brought the stories to a level of higher complexity, perhaps with more description of the characters' emotional journeys.
