As Cassandra's first school year in Arkansas draws to a close, she feels pretty confident with how far she's come. She's made new friends, excelled in school, and joined a band. But then her teacher challenges her to push herself in a friendly competition, and Cassie realizes how far she still has to go. Will Cassie make it to the top of the class?
Easy to read. Wonderful characters. Realistic. Inspirational. Tragic. Tear jerker.
This episode throws some really hard issues at our wonder girl, Cassie. The issues she faces and her reactions to them are very real. Readers have the opportunity to think about how they might handle these situation. It's usually better to test the waters before jumping in. How do you feel you would compare to Cassie, her siblings, and her classmates?
I was provided this book as an ARC by the author; however, the review is my honest opinion.
Little Sister--In which Cassandra learns she needs to do HER best. It is rough when you are in the same school with your siblings and your younger sister is the straight A student.
This book deals with two delicate issues that some children have to face: the death of a loved one and learning to love a difficult relative. Tamara Hart Heiner does an outstanding job showing us how hard life can be for a preteen girl when things don't go her way or she is misunderstood. As always, the writing in this book is outstanding. Several times in this book, my heart went out to Cassandra and I wanted to cry for her. I think it is important to have books like this one that show children the truth: life is not always fun and games. Cassandra's story is a great example of getting through the tough times as well as the fun times.
