She thought she was a witch...she's more Skye’s a young witch who sucks at spells and works at a metaphysical store, The Green Fairy. Strange things are happening there at black specks of movement out of the corner of her eye, mysterious buzzing noises, unidentified dragonfly-like carcasses in the basement, and a hidden cache of absinthe (aka fairy crack).
Kheelan is a human changeling. Raised with the fairies, he’s viewed as an inferior species whose only use is to serve his kidnappers. He’s been totally screwed by the Fae and his only goal in life is freedom. When he meets Skye, he sees an opportunity to escape. The last thing he needs is to be distracted by feelings for this quirky witch.
Skye stumbles upon the remains of dead fairies at the store and is approached by Kheelan who has been sent to investigate the pixie murders. Skye falls for him--only to discover he’s using her to win his freedom. He tells her she is half-fairy and has secret powers, but Skye finds it hard to believe when she can never get a spell to work.
As Samhain, the witch’s Halloween, draws near she must make a bold move to claim her heritage and power, restore order in the fairy realm, and try to win Kheelan’s freedom and love. Absinthe, autism and augury meld into a paranormal cauldron where fairies are sly tricksters waiting to trap you in their Realm.
***This is a complete novel at approximately 75,000 words.*** Although this is the second in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone novel. Charmed and Dangerous, the first in the series is now available for pre-order.

The Changeling is my first Debbie Herbert book! She’s a delightful author who was gracious enough to interview me, so I couldn’t wait to read her work. The story of Skye the young witch starts quickly. While she is at work at a metaphysical store called the Green Fairy, she stumbles onto a mystery in the back rooms. Someone is drowning pixies in an iron pot. Kheelan is a young changeling who serves the fey and has been sent on a mission to find this pixie killer. Of course they are a destined match. It’s a paranormal romance, a crime drama, and a coming of age/emerging adult tale as boy and girl discover each other and also learn what sets them apart from their peers. This is a well-developed story with a charming ending. My only pause was my own lack of familiarity with Celtic fairy lore, standard witchcraft and the various fey races. A glossary would have cleared this up for me.
Fairies are not always bright shiny things. Even the Seelie can have their darkside. I love that Debbie Herbert kept her fairies a bit sinister. They are tricky and conniving and look down on anything outside of the Fae. This includes the changeling, Kheelan, and the human girl, Skye.
Kheelan was amazing. He was just the right amount of dark and brooding with a bit of wistfullness about him when it came to his human family. He's instantly enthralled with Skye the first time he sees her and isn't surprised to find out that she's something a little special.
Skye on the other hand, wasn't quite as strong a character for me. She was very well-rounded and I loved her reactions to finding out about her true past, and she had a bit of a goofy, humorous side to her personality that Kheelan was definitely missing. They made a great combo and are a pretty good example of opposites attract and all.
The fairy realm was still one of wonder and enchantment - but it was a world at war. The Seelie were looking for a savior and the Unseelie were looking to stop a savior. There's a good dose of excitment and battle of sorts in the pages. My only complaint was the ending. It was, in theory, a very satisfying conclusions. But it lost some of the gritty edge that I had really enjoyed throughout the story and got just a tad bit sticky sweet in comparison.

I absolutely adored this enchanting tale that blends Fae lore with the fascinating world of witchcraft in a coming-of-age story that will touch your heart with angst, humor, romance, and charm.
Teen witch Skye wants what every young girl wants - for her secret crush to fall in love with her. Tanner, childhood friend and her brother's BFF doesn't return her love. Enter Kheelan, a Changeling stolen by the Fae and forced into their service his entire life. His interest in Skye is strictly business, or so he tells himself. After all, she is 'The One,' destined to save the Seelie Fae from the Unseelie. If he brings her to his masters, he'll win his freedom.
Too bad his attraction to the kind-hearted witch keeps getting in the way.
Throw in a mystery involving the murder of local Pixies and a rich, wonderful Southern setting (warning for Tennessee Vol fans - this one's die-hard Bama, LOL!) and you have a page-turner that will warm your heart and leave you wanting more!
I was given this book by Rebecca Hamilton in exchange for a fair and honest review. I really enjoyed this book, even though it's not my usual genre. It was amusing and well researched into fairy lore, crystals and prophecies. Two very strong and entertaining main characters , who finally get to a happy ever after . The book was well written and had fluid and continuous dialogue. I found I had to keep reading it as it had totally grabbed my curiosity . Definitely recommended for your reading shelf
This book gave a new twist on the fairy area. Kheelan is drawn to this fiery red head, but why? He cant seem to stay away. Skye is shy, wondering why her magic never works right, why the love spells wont make him come to her.So shes use to the boring, everyday routine.
But then it all changes. She never knew the type of upheaval her life was about to come to. Its a good book, and the writing is great. You can really tell how she feels in this coming of age book. Her true past will come colliding down on her as it impacts her one true purpose in the future.
It was a long wait, but Changeling finally made it to the top of my To-Read list and I wish it had sooner! Ms. Herbert created a complex magical world; it was everything you'd want in a fantasy novel and more. Dynamic characters, unexpected plot twits, and a little mystery.
A quick, super enjoyable read, and definitely worth your time. I highly recommend it!
*now patiently awaiting the second book in the series*
A copy of Changeling was provided by the awesome Debbie Herbert.
Another five star read for the second installment in this series! I loved hearing Skye's story. The paranormal in Changeling built on the Charmed and Dangerous book. The mystery was very interesting and I enjoyed trying to puzzle it out. Looking forward to more books in this series! A five star read from this awesome author!
Skye is a witch and being a student, she works part time in the Green Fairy, a "New Age" shop. She is not very good at casting spells but has a strong affinity for crystals. She has had a crush on her brother's best friend Tanner forever. She even resorts to do a love spell to attract his attention, to no avail. This doesn’t do much for her confidence in her love life.
Kheelan was abducted from the human realm by the Faes when he was two years old and is treated as a lesser being and more or less a slave. He has to do their biddings or else suffer severe punishments. When the Pixies start to disappear, he is sent to the human realm to investigate. The first time he sets sights on Skye, he is fascinated by her, but he has no time to explore this fascination. His priority is to succeed in his mission as has his own goal in sight.
Skye starts having strange experiences, mainly in the Green Fairy whilst Kheelan thinks that the disappearances are linked to the shop. What better way to get information by getting to know Skye?
As the story develops, it becomes apparent that Kheelan has a very rough time with the Faes and at the same time he discovers that he has been living a lie. Skye on the other end discovers that she is more than a witch. She is the the key to stop the war between the Seelie and the Unseelie. With Shamain approaching, the situation becomes urgent. She finds herself in some dangerous and difficult situations whilst coming to terms with who she really is. The other problem is that she is attracted to Kheelan but does he feel the same way or is he just using her to reach his ultimate goal?
This story is crafted very well and is nicely paced. It's full of cunning, intrigue cruelty and deceit. Revenge comes from where it's least expected! Kyle who is autistic brings an interesting insight between the Fae and the human realms.
Like all the other books which I have read by Debbie Herbert, this one is a real page turner too and I would fully recommend to lovers of the paranormal, specifically, those with an interest in Light and Dark Faes. A very enjoyable read, indeed.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Some of them are kindle unlimited, but most seem not to be. Confusing as to what is going on, mostly because of unnecessary and lengthy side trips, and seems like the start of a Jerry Springer show or something. Normally don't mention typos or other grammar issues, but when it messes up the flow of the story and the meaning of the sentence, yeah that isn't good, and it keeps happening. Try some beta readers and a decent grammar program, there are no such words as '' there're" not in accepted English it's they are, and ditto 'fixing' instead of about, and it continues one with this dreck in the third 'book'. Goofy chick angst that is stupid and even worse when it's supposedly coming from the guy side. She understands he's changeling not fairie then in the next part is chick gushing thinking he's putting out fairy pheromones. Then back to the useless filler of too soon chick dude groping each other. They also can't 'make love' to each other after only having met like 3 or 4 times, sheesh. The rating quickly went from 5 to 4 then to 3 which is eh books, then to 2 which is really bad ones, then all the way to 1 for why do 'writers' print this crap. Worst of all, it's all boring, cardboard chicklit ungrammatical badly plotted nonsense. Just how stupid are these characters, hint, VERY stupid. Next hint: next book is just as stupid and boring and pointless. The best thing about 1 not being available in ku is that meant didn't have any need or real way to read that crap.
Charmed and Dangerous: An Appalachian Magic Novel Book One (Appalachian Magic Series 1) Changeling: An Appalachian Magic Novel (Appalachian Magic Series Book 2) Charmed by the Salem Witch (Appalachian Magic Series Book 3)
Skye is a witch, who isn't very good at casting spells. She wants to create a love spell to make Tanner, her brother's friend, have feelings for her. But when she tells him the truth, he doesn't see her that way. Kheelan, a Changeling, was taken from his real parents when he was around two by the fae, and has been essentially a slave to them his whole life. When he learns that Skye is The One, that will save the Seelie Faries from the Unseelie Faries, he wants to be able to escort her there so he can get his freedom. Kheelan also learns that, The Green Fairy, where Skye works is the main place where the Pixie are being murdered, he believes it's her boss, Claribel, but Skye doesn't believe that because Claribel loves the Pixie. With Samhain approaching, will Skye be able to save the Seelie before it's too late? Will Kheelan ever gain his freedom or will he be tricked by the fae, after all, they are tricksters. Find out all of your questions when you read this book! Love this author and fell in love with another one of her books!
Skye is a young witch who is struggling with spells but does have an affinity for crystals. She has a crush on Tanner who is a childhood friend and her brother’s best friend. tanner does not feel the same way toward Skye. There is a mystery about who is killing pixies and right at the Green Fairy which is where Skye works and she is pulled into the mystery. Kheenah comes into Skye’s life . Kheenan is a changeling who was stolen from his natural parents when he was around around two. Kheenan was taken by the Unseelie and has lived a life of slavery he has been abused and neglected. Skye soon learns she is “The One” who is to save the Seelie fae from the Unseelie Fae. Also Skye is attracted to Kheenan but doesn’t know he was attracted to her also. I like the story and plot however it did drag a bit in places but got through it. The characters were really good. I loved Kheenan and Skye and all the twists and turns they went through. I recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
As usual, Debbie Herbert created a stellar story that will stay with me for a long, long time. Skye is the young lady most of us were in our late teens; a confused, still-searching-for-herself adolescent who doesn’t give herself enough credit. I loved how well I could relate to her character. Kheenan was complex and multi-dimensional, demonstrating the effects of a lifetime of abuse and neglect while still allowing the story to stay light. The magic and world-building was astoundingly vivid and colorful, while the storyline flowed perfectly with sprinklings of real-life social issues throughout (the slavery of the human race by fairies for one). The amount of research that went into every detail was obvious. Debbie made sure she knew her stones and her fae mythology inside and out. Of course, I expected nothing less. Debbie has once again displayed a bounty of talent for the creative writing process, officially making her my favorite author of 2015!
Young college student Skye is not good at witchcraft, but has an eerie affinity with crystals. She works among the glittering globes in The Green Fairy, an unusual shop. She also has a crush on Tanner, her brother’s best friend and football player more interested in his sorority girl entourage.
Kheelan is human, stuck in unending bondage to the Seelie Court. He’s a hunting a murderer who preys on the fairies. After years of abuse and manipulation at the hands of the inhumans, he has some major trust issues.
Can Skye and Kheelan work together to find the killer, before it’s too late?
If you’re looking for more great stories by Debbie Herbert, check out the siren’s series. It’s an excellent, action-packed paranormal romance series.
Saying this book was great is not enough. This book had everything action romantic and magic. I was not able to turn the pages fast enough. I would just like to say kheelan is anyone's next book boyfriend. Debbie Herbert great job!!!!.... If you write more about kheelan and skye im reading it. ☺ I would also like to say that I would not have been able know about or to read this book if not for entering and winning a free copy at Goodreads Giveaway.
This is a paranormal romance in the New Adult category. Skye is in her first year of college and works at a New Agey psychic store where they sell charms and do psychic and tarot readings. She is a witch, and when she meets a handsome young man named Kheelan, who she later learns is a changeling - a child stolen by the fae and replaced by one of their own, who is enslaved to the fairies, her life gets more interesting. Faeries, witches, magic, mystery and romance abound in this novel. I received this book free to review from Netgalley.
This new adult fae tale is not only a wicked mix of light and dark, it reflects the author's research of crystals, tarot, absinthe and the like to bring depth to the story. She even wrote a slew of little poems/spells! I caught myself more than once rereading a line because I loved a unique analogy or turn of phrase. However the rest of the collection goes, it will be worth it for this well researched tale. (no cliffhanger! Bonus!)
I got this in exchange of an honest review, I loved the plot and flow of this story, the characters Skye and Keelan were charming Skye is a witch who had to confront a lot to become her true one self and it was great watching her as well as Keelan its a story full of suspense coming of age great work
As usual Debbie Herbert has written an intriguing and interesting book. This story has, fairies, pixies, and witches. Who is killing the pixies? A witch who can't do a spell right and you also have a half human who is enslaved by the face. Of course there is romance, too. You can't Go wrong buying this book.
Great story with quirky characters and nice magical content. There were some interesting and grose creatures. I enjoyed the personal dramas and the tentative relationship as it developed between Skye and Kheelan.
This book was a good read. The characters were interesting and the story line well thought out. This was the first book I have read by Debbie Herbert but it definitely won't be my last.
Witch Skye works at a store called The Green Fairy and strange things are happening there when she starts to find dead fairies. Kheelan is a changling who was raised by fairies and is trying to find hope in working towards getting freedom from the Fae and sees Skye as a a way of escaping them - as long as he doesn't let any developing feelings for her distract him. When Kheelan explains that she is actually half fairy and has some hidden powers she finds it hard to take him seriously and has to struggle to try and master the two sides of herself. With the approach of Samhain (Halloween) can she claim her heritage, Kheelan's love and restore order between the Seelie and Unseelie in Fairy?
Lots and lots of action and drama in this story. It helps if you read the previous one in the series but it is still possible to enjoy it if you don't. Well written and lots of twists and turns in this story that I really enjoyed.
While this story may have the barest hint at a romance occurring between its main characters, the plot itself drew this reader in, reminding me why I fell in love with paranormal so many years ago, and kept me reading until the end. Either the author is very well versed in lore or she's quite good at her research. Perhaps a bit of both?
The world building is tightly knit, her characters charming and portrayed just as one would hope in a book of its genre...each with his or her own quirks & flaws.
I look forward to more from this author, and additional hours of spellbinding books to take me away from the day-to-day on each new journey. I forgot how much I love the fae!
This was a good read and I maybe liked it better than the first book. It's hard to say because the books are quite different. This was a re-read for me and although I remembered parts of it, most of it had faded to the recesses of memory. I really liked the characters, even the bad guys, were fairly well fleshed out. I especially loved the last chapter, mostly because I'm a mom and a sap when it comes to HEA type endings. It is always great to see the underdog come out on top and in this case we had two underdogs. Like I said, it was a fun read and I would recommend it to mature teens because there is one sex scene that isn't really graphic, and it fits in the story, but might bother some younger readers. I would 16+ is okay.
If you are looking for a magical excitingly dangerous adventure look no further. This story has it all and is a awesome addition to this entertaining series.
Skye is a spunky witch the hat thought she know who she would always belong with untill she runs into Kheelen and he opens her eyes to a whole new world that forever changes her. They each find so many things have changed since their adventure began. Can love really save them from forever being trapped by the fae? Love every Hart thumping moment.
Another beautiful story by Debbie Herbert. The contrast in worlds between Callie's story and Skye's worked beautifully while still making sense together. Without giving too much away, this book is intriguing and wistful. It gives the reader just enough clues to follow along with the mystery while keeping the interest where it should be. It was wonderfully done.
But as I'm quickly learning with Debbie's books, it left me wanting to know a little more (not necessarily in a bad way though): Who is the mysterious man in the office? What did Skye's mom say when they finally spoke? And most importantly, how will the family dynamic turn out with Kyle?
