Dave could be completely sure that three things would always exist: the stars, the football field, and Liam. Although he loves the solitude and tranquility that his hometown of Riverton offers, the thought of the silence that he knows will descend once Liam leaves is sure to be unbearable.

This book focuses on 4 young football players, living in a backwater town where the only important thing they have is the local school football team, the mammoths.
Dave and Liam, the best friends turned lovers; Syd, the insecure football star; and Pat, the ex star, the might have been who got and injury that ruined his chances to have the brilliant future he had planned.
Throughout the book, we get to know every one of them in depth, we get to witness Liam and Dave get together (it takes a while, at some point I just wanted to shake them, a feeling I shared with many of the characters), we get to see Pat get better and Syd grow up.

The reason why I really enjoyed this book is because, for some reason, I really connected to the characters. They felt real. They took wrong decisions, did some things that were not right, still they kept trying to be better and find happiness.
I liked how the book shows that sometimes happiness lies in a path very different from the one we planned to take. It happens many times that we have our whole future figured out, only for a little thing to happen and turn it all upside down. Then a detour is needed, but we can still get our happy ending.
I had a feeling of warmth by the end of the book and closed it with a smile on my face, glad to have read it. Definitely recommend this one :D
