Illustrating the rapidly expanding world of independently produced video games, this book features conversation with the makers themselves about the possibilities open to developers freed of trend-specific shackles. These are the dream-weavers, the creators of entire universes ripe for exploration, or fantastical lands rich in secrets, and deeply intimate stories that can only be told through the fascinating medium of modern video games. Including contributions from legendary developers like Tim Schafer and David Braben, alongside newer studios like Dennaton Games and Simogo, this book goes behind the scenes of some of the most stirring experiences you'll ever have with a controller in your hands.
Very amusing book, it feels like a documentary in a well-shaped book with lots of illustrations, good examples and Deep meaning.
I met a lot of new games that has proposal and original ideas often overlooked by popular games. After Reading this book I feel that I should support indie games as they are closer to art than to money, and they all give us good arguments to defend the videogame industry as a new media in this collapsing world.
I think it could add some more information; it feels enough though, but there's a lot of ink in unnecessary images to fill some blank spaces in the text. Nonetheless, amusing Reading and very cooperative with the smallest of the biggest industry.
A fine introduction to the world of indie games, or at least as it was back in 2016. If you’re already generally knowledgeable on indie developers and games then this book won’t have anything new to offer. Otherwise, it’s a pretty nice time capsule of various screenshots and developer quotes of independent games that were popular in the early to mid-2010s and other indie games that people were looking forward to at the time as well.
There is literally nothing wrong with the book except that it reads as a mixture of a textbook and gallery booklet rather than a book. It's a book for someone who doesn't know much about indie games. And, at this point, it became a bit outdated.
It is a wonderful introduction to indie games, like the title says. It's easy to read, the pictures add to the experience, and it covers a wide variety of topics in the indie game industry. Definitely worth checking out if you want to learn more about this not niche any more section of video games.
