It’s the start of term at Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale, and Alice-Miranda and her friends are over the moon to learn about one of the school’s new charity projects—they are going to become the proud carers of a dog rescued from a nearby pound! To add to the excitement, there are whispers of a wedding between their two favorite teachers. Meanwhile, the local village is about to host the country’s largest dog show—however, at the last moment the grounds are deemed unfit for competition. The school is called upon as a replacement venue, and preparations head into overdrive. Along with the dog show come a number of bizarre characters—some are strange, while some are just downright unpleasant. While walking the school’s new dog, Alice-Miranda and Millie stumble upon something very worrying and will have to act fast in order to save the day!
Jacqueline Harvey has combined a successful career in education with her love of a good story. She is the author of many novels for younger readers and a picture book, THE SOUND OF THE SEA, which was awarded Honour Book in the 2006 Australian Children’s Book Council Awards.
Jacqueline taught in Infants and Primary schools and was Deputy Head of Abbotsleigh Junior School (an independent day and boarding school for girls) in Sydney Australia for seven and a half years before taking up the position of Director of Development at Abbotsleigh in 2010. In October 2012 she resigned to become a full time writer and speaker.
Jacqueline’s bestselling Alice-Miranda and Clementine Rose series’ centre on the adventures of two young girls.
Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones is a perpetually positive and determined seven year old who takes herself off to boarding school because it appeals to her sense of adventure.
Clementine Rose is a sweet little girl, who brings much joy to her family and the friends she makes along the way in her journeys through the first five books of the series. A star of the show is Clementine Rose’s pet, an adorable teacup pig called Lavender.
Her newest series is called Kensy and Max about twins who learn that their grandmother is head of the world's most important spy organisation, Pharos.

Alice and her friends are very skillful, Alice herself is a smart girl.
I belive this book has many positive messeges (like 'you can do it' or 'belive in yourself') The book also focases on otherr characers, such as Miss Grimm and Mr Grump or Danial and Becca.
This is the first of Jacqueline Harvey’s books I have read since hearing her as a key speaker at a children’s conference. Amidst a whole host of chaos, pranks and misconduct there is to be a wedding between 2 teachers. Just to throw a spanner in the works, there a last-minuted change of venue required for the annual dog show. Jacqueline Harvey has done a superb job with the amount of pandemonium going on! I particularly enjoyed her character descriptions, having been briefly involved with both dog and cat show people. They might seem over the top, but definitely not! I’m wondering whether the aptly nicknamed Nosey Myrtle Parker isn’t a little based on a certain television dowager, famous for her candlelight suppers? The protagonist Alice Miranda (who sports a four-barrelled name), is savvy, caring and helpful, as are her friends. With a sad story, an opportunistic older army man, two blundering thieves and lots of ties to those who both show and breed dogs, this is an engaging and fun story for the Middle-Age readership bracket. The one thing I wasn’t fussed with was the references to people without using their names i.e. “the child” or “the girl.” This felt rather impersonal to me. Although the person’s name had been mentioned in the paragraph or the sentence, I felt it would have been better to continue using the character’s name throughout.
