Tess is burdened with a responsibility she’s not quite sure she can handle, and Ryan is determined to save her from it—if she ever stops pushing him away—in this sexy follow-up to Right Where You Are, the first new adult novel in the captivating Second Chances series.
Tess is a lot of things. Strong. Independent. Determined. Completely overwhelmed by the responsibilities of being her little brother’s caretaker. But she can handle it. She has to. Because there’s no way in hell she’s letting anyone else raise Noah.
Ryan’s happy with a life on cruise control. He has no intention of tying himself down. That road only leads to heartbreak, a lesson he learned the hard way when he was fifteen. So why can’t he stay away from the one woman who broke his heart?
Tess knows exactly why Ryan keeps popping up right when she needs the most help: He’s got a hero complex big enough to save Cinderella. But Tess isn’t that girl, and she refuses to let him be part of her life. Not even when Noah takes a liking to him. Not even when they kind of, maybe, hook up.
Wow!!! That book was really good... and it kept me a lovely company!!! While i was reading "Right where you are" before some months, i was catching myself wondering about Ryan and i really wanted to learn more about him... And when i saw on NetGalley that the author had written his story too, i was so excited!!! Ryan had got into me when he wasn't the main character of he book, imagine how much he could get into me in his own book!!! And yep, he did it!!! But except Ryan, i met Tess and Noah and i fuckin' loved them!!!
That was a story about the power of love and how far you can go when you really love somebody. That you can do whatever it takes for having by your side the ones you love... No matter what it will cost you!!!
Tess was a 21 year old girl who used to have big plans in her life. And in order to succeed them, before seven years she left behind the boy that she loved. Her first true love!!! But her plans were destroyed when her father landed in jail and when she decided to take care her baby brother by herself. Now she is struggling to get through the day with a little boy under her care, and she is trying really hard to become Noah's legal guardian. But her father is making her life a hell and she is struggling more harder to succeed this goal. For Noah to be hers forever!
Ryan's mother left him and his father when he was sixteen. That fact and the fact that his first love abandoned him had been so painful that he can not going through something like that again. So he is doing only casual sex, while he is working his ass off to take care of his father who is numb since the moment that his mother left them. Ryan forced to man up in the age of sixteen and since then he is taking care everything on his own... And now, when everything is somehow in their right place, his father is starting to get out of his numb and his first love is coming back in his life with a little kid by her side.
A meeting by chance on the grocery store and a car breakdown brings Tess and Ryan together for once again after seven years apart. Their chemistry lying there between them, but the time for them had passed before many years. But the lost feelings are resurfacing for once again and both of them are trying to resist them. Ryan can't get through another loss... He can't have his heart broken for once again and this girl is nothing like the girl he used to know. For god's sake! She even have a child! Her respinsibilities have change... As for Tess??? She has not the luxury to get involved in a relationship, since she have a big fight in the way for making Noah hers.
So what will happen with those two??? Will they aloud to love to creep upon their hearts for once again and to lead their way??? Or will they remain apart for good this time???
I liked so much Tess. I liked her strength and her courage. It's very difficult to throw all your life out of the window and to take a huge respinsibility as a little child. But even though that she was facing lots of difficulties, she never gave up. She was loving so much Noah that she could never give up on him. She never lost her courage, even when she was down on her knees.
"Somehow I'd managed to survive the past two years. And I'd make it through the next five, the next ten -because failing wasn't an option. I wasn't the same girl i was before all this. I was stronger. More determined. Nothing -and no one- was going to make me apologize for any of it. Damn anyone who tried."
As for Ryan???? Everyone was saying that he got a hero complex and in a way, he had. He was a good guy who was helping everyone around him and exactly that thing was that drowned him toward Tess. He wanted to help her. But she didn't let him and that fact was making him want her even more.... I liked very much the fact that Ryan was feeling proud of Tess and for all the things that she had achieve alone...
"Too many baggage?" "Hell no. Jesus, I thought you were amazing before, but now? You are definetely the strongest person I've ever known and I've known some pretty good fighters. Not many people would do what you did, Tess."
Those two were so lovely together... [image error] No, no just the two of them! The three of them. Because Noah crept in Ryan's heart too and in his mind Tess and Noah was a package deal and when he chosen to follow his heart, he never think Tess without Noah in his life... They had many difficulties to face but they were fighters... All of them!!!
"I think maybe you're dangerous one all by yourself." "You clearly have no idea how backward that really is." If anyone here was dangerous, it was Tess. Because she made me think about things I wasn't sure I was ready for, and it scared the shit out of me.
I also adored little Noah. He was such a smart and wonderfull kid. It was impossible not to love him!!! And i really hated their father. He was a selfish person that he wasn't caring for anyone but his self.
At the end, I want to tell that i was happy that i saw again Seth and Avery, even though that Seth pissed me off in some scenes, but i know that he was just taking care of his best friend...
"You're just always taking care of everyone else, and I'd like to see someone taking care of you for a change." -Seth

"As far as goodbyes went, I already knew this one was going to be the best and worst of my life."
L.E. Bross continues to impress me with her stunning, sexy and emotional heartfelt second chance romance stories. In the second installment to the Second Chances Series, Ms. Bross douses her readers on another sweet and tangible second chance romance that will set hearts ablaze with an unforgettable and palpable tale of love and sacrifices. In Whatever It Takes, Ms. Bross was able to beautifully juxtapose a heart-tugging and emotional past of first loves with a heartrending second chance of starting over and rekindling an old flame.
Being someone's first love may be great, but to be their last is beyond perfect. And for Ryan, he never thought a chance encounter seven years later with his first love, Tess would resurface old memories and feelings of the girl who owned his heart. Tess was the one. She was the girl that he never had forgotten. She was the girl that he could picture the white picket fence and kids. And so when he sees Tess struggling financially and has a toddler by her side, he never thought he would find himself standing at her doorstep ready to help her.
Tess had it all. She was enrolled in Brown University and was all set on course in fulfilling her dreams that is until she got the call that changed her life. Her father got convicted and is in prison and she had a choice to let her baby brother end up in the foster care system or step up as temporary guardian. Forced to dropped out of college, Tess had to grow up fast. She had to be the big sister and a parent to her three year old baby brother, Noah. With finances being so tight, she had to take make every penny count. And so when she ran into car trouble, she never expected to run into Ryan. Seeing Ryan after seven years, flooded back memories of happy times and love. As Ryan tries to integrate himself into Tess's life, he began to see these walls break down. What started off as something casual friendship was somehow turning to mean so much more. Can Tess let her guard down and let Ryan in? And when she finally sees a possible future with him, a new threat of losing her baby brother could ruin their chance? So will Ryan do whatever it takes to show Tess that her burden is also his burden? Can Tess and Ryan finally get their second chance at love?
"Because the girl I used to love needed help, and fuck me if I'd be able to walk away from that."
I absolutely love and adore Whatever It Takes. Ms. Bross had me smitten with Ryan's character and his sweet and protective nature. Everybody needs a hero and Ryan was indeed the hero that Tess needed in her life. Whatever It Takes may have been my favorite of the series because I am a sucker for first love second chance romance and Ms. Bross did an amazing job in tackling Tess and Ryan's relationship in such a beautiful and raw manner. She was able to juxtapose and weave the past and present perfectly. So if you are looking for a sweet, sexy, and heartfelt romance then I highly recommend you to read Whatever It Takes.
When Ryan was 15, he was in love with his childhood friend, Tess. They were as close as could be until Tess's grandma got sick and she had to move and live with her father. At first, they kept in contact but slowly Tess stopped returning his calls and he realized that she wasn't going to come back. A couple months later, his mom left and didn't look back. Ryan swore off relationships because he didn't want to get hurt again. Now, Tess is back and she has a little boy with her. The big life she left for doesn't seem like it turned out so well but what Ryan doesn't know is the little boy she is raising is actually her brother and she is doing everything possible to give him a good life. Even with all the time that has passed, Ryan and Tess still have the same chemistry from 7 years ago, only they both have been hurt in different ways and don't know how to move past it.
I'm not really a big fan of second chance romances - I hate the thought of childhood first loves being with other people in their time apart but I really liked this one. . Tess and Ryan are that couple that even at 15 years old, they knew they were meant to be together. Life happened and they lost touch but when they see each other after 7 years, that chemistry between them was still there. I love how Ryan became friends with Tess's little brother, Noah. He was so sweet with him and just a really good guy. Tess was a fantastic heroine - she made a mistake 7 years ago but didn't make excuses for it. She's strong and determined to give her brother the best life she can, even if it meant she had to sacrifice for it. I really loved this couple together - I loved how their friendship strengthened throughout this story. This book was fast-paced and I couldn't put it down once I started. I really hope there are going to be more books in this series. My only tiny complaint is that I really wanted an epilogue. I look forward to reading more by this author.

It was a nice reading during holidays you know when you don't have much time BUT you don't want to abandon your books so you find some time here and there...;) I liked the story and Tess&Ryan and of course Noah...who wouldn't...? he was a cutie! The story wasn't something special but I liked the writing and it was duo POV which I love in books.
This book is about Tess a young girl who is trying to study and take care of her younger brother Noah. But her father who is an asshole makes her life miserable threatening her that he is going to take Noah away because he's the worst person EVER! And we have Ryan a handsome and nice dude with a hero complex who want to save the world...So Ryan lives with his dad who is an alcoholic since his mother left them and he's taking care of him.And he like women without string attachments...(so you can imagine lots of one night stands).
These two have history because they grow up together, become friends then lovers and then she left him for a better life only she didn't know then that she was going to regret it years later...because of her father AGAIN people...(asshole remember..?)So now they meet up again and their old feelings come to surface one more time...life give them a second chance to LOVE each other... Now they decide to have a relationship and have fun with each other and Noah! But someone threaten their happiness so Ryan take charge of the situation and solve the problem but Tess doesn't give him time so she leaves with Noah. But in the end we have HEA!!!
This is my second read by Bross in almost as many months and I have to say, she knows how to write, sweet, fun, and even emotional reads that are great for a long weekend when you just want to get away without having to leave the comfort of home.
This book hit me in the feels. It was so hard not to fall in love with all of them, sweet little Noah, good hearted Ryan and hard working, loyal Tess, I even liked grumpy Pops, all the characters were just so much fun and so darn endearing.
I connected right from the beginning with Tess and Noah and knew that after what their father put them through and was still trying to put them through, I wanted to see them get their happily ever after, desperately.
And of course that is where Ryan walks in. He too was an amazing character, swoon worthy, loyal, and just downright good. It is hard not to fall in love with a man that takes care of his pops and loves kids as much as he did plus, okay, I'm a sucker for these type of romances. The slow burn we were once lovers and now are something else romances.
And of course the added bonus was getting to see Avery and Seth from the first book. I truly love it when authors give us that peek into characters from other books, it is just so much fun and so nice to see where they are and what is going on with them and hoping they are still getting their HEA as well.
Overall this was a fast read that I quickly devoured in just a few hours that is full of all of the good stuff romance junkies like me adore and crave.

Whatever It Takes is the sequel to Right Where You Are by L.E. Bross. This is the author's first New Adult series and I have only one thing to say about that: Please keep writing these NA books!
Ryan was a character from the first book that I was hoping to learn more about and I got what I asked for. He shies away from commitment, mostly because Tess, the love of his teenage life, left with her dad and never looked back. Then, almost immediately after, his mother walked out on him and his father. At the rip young age of sixteen, he had to become the man of the house because his father could no longer handle the position. I loved his hard-working, carefree take on life. Deep down, he's a really good person, which is proven in the way he handles Noah in the book.
We all wish for second chances at something. But to be given a chance at the love who got away is truly a gift. From the moment I started reading this new release, I knew I was in for some heartbreak, some tears and hopefully a wonderful story along the way. I was not wrong.
I have to admit, I fell for Ryan from the beginning. He is the good guy. Sweet and endearing. His heart was broken by Tess when they were young but he realizes he just cannot stay away. She has changed even though people think she hasn't. Her life is not what people think. She has secrets but she begins to trust and rely on Ryan again.
The author has the talent to tell a memorable story that is emotional and really sucks you right in. I loved her ability to flesh out her characters and give them depth and feelings so raw you feel like you were watching a movie. I ended this book with a smile from the HEA, but getting there sure had me going in a few spots.
I have not read the previous book in this series, but now that I have experienced this wonderful read, I am going back to pick up the first book. Whatever It Takes is not one to miss if you love a heartwarming love story that survives over many years apart. Touching and endearing!
I think I may be in love with Ryan!! I really liked his character in Right Where You Are and was ecstatic to find out he was getting his own book!
Ryan's the savior and protector. He takes care of his father after his mom up and left them years ago, he has been there for Seth through everything he went through, he's just one of the good guys. When he runs into Tess, the girl who broke his heart years ago, he knows he should turn away and forget her, but he's still drawn to the girl who stole his heart all those years ago.
Tess has a rough life, after she left, she thought things were going perfect, until her life turns upside down, and the most important person in her life is Noah. She's struggling and doing everything she can to keep a roof over his head and to keep him, she has no room for anything else in her life, but fate has a different idea, and she runs into Ryan again.
It takes some time, but with these two unable to stay away from one another and they are able to rekindle an old friendship and old feelings start to resurface. I loved watching both of them denying what was happening, and how perfect things seemed to be when they were together. The little things Ryan would do for Tess and Noah.. SWOON!!
Things between these two are hot as well as sweet. Ryan doesn't believe in relationships after everything he has gone through, and Tess just doesn't have time for them. When they are together things are so sweet and yet hot at the same time. You can feel the chemistry and angst rolling off of your Kindle!
I really loved how Ryan took to Noah and without knowing the story did everything he could to keep a smile on that boys face. The way Ryan is with Noah made me swoon and fall for him. He took this kid under his wing and showed him what it was like to have a positive male role model in his life.
Both of them have a lot of things to get past, and watching them realize with each others help maybe things could get better was awesome. When Ryan finally decides to do something about Tess and his feelings, things take a dramatic turn and I was like NOOO!!!! I really didn't think any of them would be able to come back from it, but how this book ended was beautiful and perfect for Ryan and Tess's story.
I really enjoyed Whatever It Takes. Ryan and Tess (and Noah) are awesome characters that you can't help but like. Their story has many ups and downs, but things worked out perfectly for them. I really wished we would have gotten an epilogue or more of Ryan and Tess as I feel like this book ended a bit too quickly, and left me with some questions still. Overall Whatever It Takes is a sweet second chance romance that will have you falling in love with Ryan and your heart breaking for Tess.
This is the second book in Bross's second chances series and while I loved the first book I didn't totally fall in love with this one the way I wanted to.
Ryan doesn't do serious relationships because of when his mother left when he was 16 and the girl he loved left as well for different reasons. Now that he is successful fun if just what he needs and wants well that is until he sees the girl who broke his heart.
Tess's dreams didn't have raising her 4 year old brother Noah by herself but dreams change. She is doing the best she can and yet she still can't catch a break. Running into Ryan again didn't go how she thought it would but the more time they spend together the more her dreams are starting to take on a new life.
I love second chance at love stories and this was definitely one of them. These two have been in love since they were kids which was sweet. I enjoyed how Bross took them on the journey of falling in love all over again.
These two just wanted a good time but after spending almost everyday together you can see when the feelings start to change and how well they actually are together. It's like the family they both wanted when they were younger.
There were a few things in this book I could have done without such as the whole father trying to sell his kid. But it was brought up and it ended but what exactly happened to the father in the end? Will Tess still see and talk to him? Just some stuff was left unanswered.
The while relationship with Ryan and Tess ended nice and I was satisfied but I did think they rushed into things a little fast but hey when it's love it's love.
It was good to revisit with Avery and Seth. I really liked them as a couple in the first book and I'm so glad to see them moving ahead and being happy.
Will there be another book? I hope so and I'm wondering if it will be Averys friend Shari. Hopefully her story will be next! If you love second chance at love stories as much as I do I suggest giving this series a try!
Ciao, readers.
Buona lettura.

A cute little story about first love and second chances! I LOVED every minute of it!!!
This is the story of Ryan and Tess. Tess and Ryan are childhood sweethearts that were separated after Tess moved away to live with her father. After running in to each other at a supermarket, the two start start spending more time together and the old flame is once again burning bright.
This story was cute! I love books about second chances and just reading about these two finding their way back to each other was such a delight. Family was a major theme in this book and it was my favorite part of the book. Ryan’s relationship with his father is kind of rocky at the beginning of the book and it was just great to see how their relationship evolved as the story went along. Ryan learning the real reason for why his mother abandoned them definitely brought these two closer and stabilized their relationship. Another relationship that I loved in this book was Tess and Noah’s relationship. Although they are brother and sister, Tess treats Noah as if he were her own son and she’s just so willing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES (yes, I said it!) to make sure he has everything he needs, even if that means putting her own desires and dreams on the back burner.
I LOVE Tess! Let’s just give that girl a medal for everything she has been through because I don’t know how I would have handled things put in that situation. I seriously wanted to just HURT her father for belittling her every time she went to visit him. She’s just such a selfless person and I was rooting for her the whole time, especially when things got messy towards to ending.
Ryan. *SWOON*. Ryan starts off being very closed off the idea of being in a relationship, but those walls soon start to crumble when Tess walks back into his life. He was just so great, especially with Noah. He cared for the little guy even though he had no connection to him and he too went to great lengths to do what was best for Noah. Also, Ryan has a way with words…SUCH A SWEET TALKER!
Just wanted to mention some quick thoughts about some side characters. Noah is such an ADORABLE LITTLE MUNCHKIN! I wanted to pinch his cheeks! Seth annoyed me in this book. I know he was just meant to be a voice of reason for Ryan, but seriously he NEEDED to back up and let Ryan and Tess do their own thing and figure everything out on their own.
The only main issue I had with this book was that I just wanted a few more chapters. When things got crazy towards the ending, I wanted there to be more chapters, maybe a few more obstacles, thrown in before all issues were resolved. I also felt like even though things ended on a happy note, it was a bit abrupt and maybe there could have been one last chapter just to tie everything up.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I couldn’t put it down (I finished it in less than 24 hours) and I definitely recommend picking up this series. I’m excited to read more new adult books by Bross and I can’t wait to read her next release.
I had a bit of a secondary character crush on Ryan when I first met him in Right Where You Are. He was such a solid presence, a good friend and sexy as hell.
It turns out all those things remain true, but that was only part of the story. Ryan has a hero complex. He’s smarting over some pretty significant damage done by his parents—who both basically checked out on him in their own way. On top of that, his first love disappeared off the face of the earth without so much as a Dear John letter so the one big life lesson Ryan has taken away from all this is: love doesn’t last. And, because that’s a life lesson he’s taken to heart, Ryan has no interest in pursuing a lasting relationship. Hook-ups are the extent of the emotional attachment he’s willing to invest. Then, an unexpected encounter with Tess, the infamous MIA first love, turns his world upside down.
Tess has not had an easy life. Shipped off to live with her emotionally detached father when she was just 15, she dedicated her life to academics in an attempt to please him. As a result, she let go of the only boy who ever meant anything to her. Her focus became tunnel-visioned and there was little time for distractions—even the sweet, hunky kind. When the rug gets pulled out from under her, and she unexpectedly finds herself as sole caretaker of her little brother, everything changes again, including her priorities. She’s not exactly thrilled when she runs into Ryan—she’s not who she thought she’d be at this stage of her life, and he’s so much more than she remembered.
Their chemistry is immediate. Though neither wants or needs a relationship right now, they continue to be drawn towards each other. Eventually a genuine friendship is rekindled and it doesn’t take long for that to turn more heated. I loved Ryan and Tess together—and I adored the relationship they both had with Noah. Kids don’t always work for me in these stories, but I really enjoyed Noah!
This story was so sweet, a little heartbreaking, and kind of adorable. I loved Ryan so much. I loved his protective nature, his capacity to forgive, and how naturally he related to Noah, Tess’s little brother. Tess was completely likeable—trying so hard to balance all these facets of her life to make a happy childhood for her brother. She loved fiercely and gave endlessly. I loved how much the little things meant to Tess, and how neither Tess nor Ryan held on to bitterness from decisions made when they were just children.
Swoony and sexy, without being overly angsty, this was a completely satisfying second chance love story. I’m officially hooked on this series now, and anxious to see what comes next! ~ Shelly, 4 stars
**I was gifted with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review** BY L.E. Bross
So I have also previously received "Right Where You Are" as an ARC and loooooooved that book and the characters and overall the whole meaning of second chances and being able to right your wrongs or to get chances and figure out your "what ifs?!" This book right here focuses on Ryan and Tess. We of course meet Ryan in the first book and al though he had very wild ways you couldn't help but want a happy ending for him so this was a relief to have read. I loved Ryan and his entire story. He has this Hero Complex and you can't help but just love him want the best for him. He gave so much and you wanted feelings reciprocated. Then we meet Tess and wow he background and all that happened to her. From the high's to low's and just how she took matters into her hand and loved Noah like her own. This was an exciting yet broken story where you just wanted to root for everyone involved. From Ryan to Tess to Ryans dad and Shari & then being able to see little sneak peeks into Avery & Seth's goings on. Thank you for the opportunity to have read this and I look forward to hopefully seeing more Second Chance Stories! hmmm maybe Shari!!!!! Here is the Second Chances series: Book 1: Book 2:
Whatever It Takes was a well written, emotional, sweet second chance love story, loved it.
Both Ryan and Tess were likable characters you could relate to and sympathise with their daily battles.
I enjoyed watching Ryan and Tess's emotional ride to their HEA, it took time for them to open up and forgive past hurts. They had such a strong connection, loved their passion and their chemistry was off the charts!
Another huge plus for me was Noah, Tess's little 3 almost 4 yr old brother. That little boy was such a sweetheart. Ryan and Noah were cute, funny and endearing together, Noah idolised/loved Ryan and Ryan loved him back unconditionally. Those two clicked from the first moment they meet. For a man not looking for a serious relationship no one was more surprised than Ryan with how much he wanted/craved the love and comfort he found being with Tess and Nathan, they made a beautiful family :)
Overall this was an emotional, sweet and hot read, great characters that will touch you and leave you with a heart full of happy feels. I highly recommend this book :)
Thank you Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books via NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Loved it!! Great story of two strong, determined characters that are willing to do whatever it takes to care for the ones they love. Tess and Ryan where young sweethearts but when she moved away to live with her dad they grew apart but neither has forgotten the other. Now she's back with a world of responsibility on her shoulders. Ryan is rolling through life. Caring for his father is the only responsibility he can carry right now. When he sees Tess again for the first time in years though he can't seem to stay away. She may have broken his heart all those years ago but she may also be exactly what his heart needs now. He wants to help Tess shoulder some of her worries but can he convince her to let him??
This is a great read and I highly recommend it for everyone.
I received a copy of this book for free through NetGalley
This was a one sit read for me. I had initially hoped that this would be a continuation of the Seth and Avery story but I really loved that we got to follow Ryan as he navigates a new relationship with his first love. This is very similar to the first in that both characters are troubled by life and have secrets they are hiding. All in all I liked this - the story was well paced and everyone loves a happy ending. Some typical new adult sex scenes scattered throughout and some great chemistry between the main characters.
Volevo Tess…
In Sintesi….
Mio padre riuscì a cambiare tutto. E spezzai quel cuore d’oro.”

Peccato :(
