I am bit surprised by the huge number of stellar ratings of this memoir, unless they are by young people and fellow youtube fans of the author. I was mostly annoyed that a young man with a supposedly perfect family and very few obstacles feels that he can give fairly judgmental advice to older people about breaking free of the restraints of perhaps unsatisfying jobs and just be free. He has the naiveté of youth perhaps, but the ideas presented here were based on cliché. Actually, cliché after cliché, stacked up endlessly. By the time he claimed to love talking to old people because they are "cute" I was about done.

This book was the Goodreads choice award winner for best memoir in 2015. This was the first memoir reading experience for a lot of teenagers as it was written by their social media Star Connor Franta and they all loved it.
First of all, let me say that even though I happened to see a few videos of Connor, I can't consider myself as his fan. To be frank, some of the books written by YouTubers were absolute disasters. But still, I liked many of the elements in this book as it is a well written one.
Summary
This memoir is about Connor Franta's life from a small town in the Midwest to an internet sensation. It deals well with his concerns regarding his identity and sexuality during his teenage years and also his career. We can see why he decided to go with his heart and not head and pursue his passion in this book.
The way he narrated the amusement of people when he tells his job as a YouTuber and how they asked several questions, including the money he makes was really humorous.
Love
My favourite part of this book is where he describes love

This book came out during April 2015 when there was a trend of YouTuber's writing their own books. But this one was good unlike most of the other YouTubers books and even won the Goodreads awards for the best memoir and was in the top 5 breakthrough books in 2015 list by Forbes. He launched a music company too called "Heard well" for promoting smaller musicians, and one of them peaked in top 20 in billboard. He also won People choice award for 2016 for choice YouTube star. Still, after this great start, Connor, unfortunately, lost his popularity.

His departure from Youtube supergroup channel Our 2nd life (O2L) was a shock to many of his followers. In his final O2L video, Franta told that there are “personal things I’m dealing with behind the camera.” As he explains, he has filtered out many of these personal things from his videos. “When it comes down to it,” he said, “I make a video that is five minutes long about my week–a week that has over ten thousand minutes in it. So you guys don’t see my entire life, you just see a tiny portion of it. And I think it’s really hard for you guys to see that it’s not all good.”
Cancel culture
It is a practice of withdrawing support to a public figure due to their offensive actions. It is a form of group shaming and entered into a territory of outright bullying right now. But this is a very controversial topic as some people complain that people were becoming too keen to ruin the lives of others over small mistakes too without giving them a second chance. Former President Barack Obama criticized "cancel culture", arguing that easy social media judgments don’t amount to true social activism. President Donald Trump railed against "cancel culture" as "Totalitarianism"

and Shane Dawson (blackface, inappropriate behaviour to minors and even his cat)

Unlike the cancel culture Connor didn't do anything wrong and was not involved in any scandal. But some says that his target audience just outgrew him and found his content slow compared to the newer crop of YouTubers. So they moved on to other social media stars while he was not able to neither satisfy their new tastes and evolve his content nor able to cultivate a new target audience. Even though he is uploading content into social media now and has more than 15 million followers all over social media, he doesn't even have half the viewership of what he had earlier. But he took photography and his music company seriously and was involved in bringing some big sensational stars into the limelight. So what happened? Was it the audience abandoned Connor or is Connor channelling out to other things like the music industry? I think as he was considered a genius who succeeded in everything he did the latter case might be true just like Casey Neistat, who is one of the pioneers in daily vlogging, not vlogging regularly nowadays

If you are a person who loves reading memoirs and biographies, I recommend you this book. There is a probability that some elders might find some of the things mentioned in this book offensive. But still, it will give you a fresh experience and will provide you with one of the best opportunities to see a millennial's perspective of their life and social media.

This memoir was so genuine and honest, so inspiring and raw, I related to so many things Connor talks about and agreed so hard with so many things he says. Such high respect for Connor Franta, I'm not even a fan of non-fiction usually, but I loved this!

First off, let me mention that this is the first memoir I've ever read. Second, I want to mention that I like Connor and his videos, but I'm definitely not a super fan. I never even subscribed to O2L when he was on it. I simply picked this up cause I'm a nosy person and ultimately just wanted to know what Connor had to say.
I wish I had read this back in high school. There was this one distinct moment in high school that lasted a few months (much longer than it should've) where this would've been something I really needed to hear; words that would've benefited me to read. That's one reason I'm giving this 5 stars. I think it's great for Connor's 14 year-old viewers to read the words he's written and soak up his enthusiasm and wisdom. To the adults to doubt anyone under the age of 30; this 22 year-old definitely has wisdom.
While I had to work through my problems on my own, I could relate to Connor's story. But seeing as he's older than me, and, let's be honest, has accomplished much more, I still found the words inspiring, encouraging, and helpful.
Like I mentioned, I'm not a super-fan, so while I wasn't exactly interested in his childhood (don't get me wrong, I still read it, because I'm incredibly nosy) I loved reading about what he think of "fame" and his position on youtube, and even the path his channel(s) took.
Something else I really liked was the lack of, "I started making youtube video because of x." And all that other stuff that YouTubers may feel compelled to talk about but everyone of them has in common. (like how youtube gave them friends they never had or gave them the confidence they needed or that sappy crap.)
One last thing I want to mention, is how honest this book felt. If you're familiar with Connor's videos, you can hear his voice right in the writing. I really appreciated that.
Overall, I loved this. I don't think I'd recommend it if you have no idea who Connor is, but I think if you're interested, go read it! You may learn a thing or two.

More than 4 million people follow him on the Internet. Mainstream media refers to him
as a "YouTuber".
"A Work in Progress" .....is Conner's first book. It's a lot about 'Conner', his family, his growing years, his creative expressions, his photography, thoughts, feelings, values, charity, education, and what makes him happy.
A little sample of Conner's voice:
"I was at a family's party recently and decided to spend the evening talking with the host's grandmother. Well dress, with white hair, she has a Spitfire personality, and as we sat in the corner, we discussed her life: where she's lived, what memories she treasures, what she's learned. We even talked about how she cooked a delicious casserole – – and who I should kill in order to get the recipe! Throughout the entire conversation, I was fascinated by her story of a life well lived".
"This is something you need to know about me: 11 times out of 10, I would rather talk to an 87-year-old and an 18-year-old. I gravitate toward wisdom. And the elderly are just so freaking cute. I can't resist! People of age have been through it all and have a rich collection of stories to share. And if we take the time, pull up a chair, let them talk, and really listen, we can learn a thing or two. Respect those who have been here before us. They've walked the path. They know the way.

When I came to this book, I was expecting a fresh and inspiring story about a guy who struggles with his life, but eventually figures it out.
Instead I got the same old drill: be yourself, embrace your scars, friends are not about quantity, but quality.
Oh my god, Connor, everybody knows that! Everybody.
Yes, I know how mindblowing these revelations are when you come to them yourself, but they are nothing new. In fact they have been repeated to the point where all these things have become unbearable clichees.
This book is one part like those "inspiring quotes" on cute pictures and one part a shitty self-help book. And it`s a pitty, since Connor obviously has a knack for writing.
Now, I`m not saying this book was completely terrible. It wasn`t, not really. Connor has a tallent for speaking with people, his writing is fresh, witty and chummy, he speaks directly with the reader and I felt drawn in to his voice. It was a refreshing read in this matter, but my problem with the book was the contents of it.
Lets be honest - 22 is waaaay too early to write a memoir. But it isn`t too early to write a good book. I feel that Connor should have stored his dream about an autobiography in some deep, dark drawer just to bring it out 40 years later - then it would rock the world. Right now the book would have been extremely powerful if Connor would have written a book about his struggles with sexuality, self-image and fear of rejection, fear of missing out on life.
For me the highest point of this book was the story of Connor coming out as gay. Hell, the most moving part of it was his fight with himself and refusal to admit his homosexuality even to himself.
There are plenty of those stories that deal with painful coming out, there is violence, family rejection and depression, but we never get to hear stories similar to Connors - where the fear of being rejected reveals itself to be false. Connors story is in no way less important than those of painful coming outs, the struggle is still very much real and painful. In some ways it`s maybe even more important, because it teaches other struggling kids that maybe hiding isn`t the best option, that everything might work out fine. I would have been overjoyed to read a book dedicated to such a matter, but in his memoir Connor slides past this episode quickly and goes back to being "inspiring".
So only 2 stars to a read that could have been way better. One star for the coming out story and one star for the compelling style of writing. Also, I would give half a star for the design - the cover is brilliant and some of the photos are beautiful, but mostly they are just your everyday instagrams.
I don`t regret spending my time and money on this book and I will read other books by Connor if he choses to write some more. And yes, I know that I would have absolutely loved this book when I was 13, but it doesn`t make it any better.
Read this if you are 13 years old. Read this if you are a huge fan of Connor Franta. Otherwise? Meh.

Who is Connor Franta? Connor is a 22-year-old Youtuber, who uploads videos about random topics every week. You may doubt how much you'll possibly learn from a person who has only lived for 22 years. However, this is not about the number of years he has lived, but rather what kind of life he has lived so far.
Connor always appears to be funny and dramatic in his videos; sometimes it's just difficult to take him seriously. I assume that you must be interested in his book if you're reading this, and if you are debating whether you should read it, then I suggest you to watch the following video of his.

Among all the hilarious vids, a video like this is the one that really hits me. And in his debut, it's full of surprises and wise and sensitive words like this.
In the 212 pages, you get to know the life stories of Connor. Some of them will surprise you; some of them will melt your heart; some of them will give you courage. After every story, Connor talks about what he learns from it, and somehow as a reader, I learn from it too. There are no fancy words or special writing techniques. Connor's words are sincere, raw and honest. You can feel his personality in them. It's like hearing Connor talks to you, gives you advice and encourages you gently.
Besides the words, the pictures inside the book are also fantastic. The ones took by Connor are really artsy. If you are someone who is into photography (like me), I truly suggest you to pick this up because it inspires me to take good pictures. One of the things that I've learned from Connor is that don't give up your artistic side even when others don't approve. Do what you love, and love what you do.
If you wanna be inspired, start this 212-page journey, I'm sure it's gonna be an unforgettable one.

One of the things that I've learned from Connor is that don't give up your artistic side even when others don't approve. Do what you love, and love what you do.

I think I love Connor.
I seriously can't say that I've gone through his struggles while reading A Work in Progress but I did feel for him. Hot damn! I feel like today I've read such emotional books and I don't know how to wrap my head around them anymore.
Whatever Connor says in this book it is so freaking refreshing. He is honest with all of the bullshit that surrounds us in this world. I mean I've never been one to sugarcoat anything so I totally went with everything that was happening in this book.
This book just screams "I am Connor hear me roar!" Seriously it's that amazing. IF you are looking for truth and honesty well.. look no further. This book will bear it all to you. It's serious, funny, and highly motivational. I swear I loved everything about this book.
Overall, I hope that this isn't my last book by Connor. I want more from him and I hope it's even more amazing the next time around.

I don't read a lot of memoirs but I needed to read something out of my huge book collection in my bedroom to keep me busy on a hot summers evening and A Work In Progress did just that. Connor is such an honest, down to earth person and with every chapter throughout the book, I could even hear his voice as if he was reading his own thoughts to me. I love his photography throughout also. A great introduction to Connor Franta and his videos. Highly recommend read.

I picked this up on a whim at my local supermarket to make up a 2 for £7 deal having been attracted by the cover and having briefly checked the Goodreads reviews, which are overwhelmingly positive.
I've never heard of Franta, and to be honest won't care if I never hear of him again. I'm definitely not the target audience for this book or his other work, so shouldn't really be too harsh, but I suppose I should've had a bit more sense than to purchase a book written by a 22 year old dealing with his life experience.
Unless you're 22 yourself, don't bother. Some memoirs of the experience of one's early years are outstanding, but unfortunately this isn't one or them-Jim Carroll he ain't.

If you follow Connor Franta on YouTube or Twitter, you are already aware of how he is such an inspiration! A Work in Progress is no different. This book is filled with helpful advice about everything. Connor spills the details on all sorts of things, such as pursuing your dreams and going with what your gut says to do. “Know what you like, know what makes you happy, stick to your guns, and state it with confidence.” I think that this is really important for people, especially teenagers, everywhere to know, because it doesn’t matter what someone else thinks you should do. Make your own decisions and do something that makes you happy.
I really enjoyed looking at the schoolwork that Franta has included in A Work in Progress. For example, there is a note written to his teacher in 2006 mentioning how he is always worried about things like history tests and swim meets. This is interesting because the next page in the book is the beginning of a chapter called “Live Now, Worry Later”. The clippings and pictures in the book always relate to what is going on, which helps the reader grasp a deeper understanding of what was going on in specific moments in Connor Franta’s short twenty-two years.
A Work in Progress is filled with personal experiences that Franta looks back and reflects on. It’s fantastic (Frantastic) that he is even willing to share such deep childhood memories with the world! I love this because his stories prove that memories will stick with you for the rest of your life and that you should make the most out of every day. A Work in Progress is Connor Franta’s memoir. If you don’t recognize that name you are sadly behind the times and need to search his name to find his YouTube videos. Franta is an incredibly popular YouTuber whose fame is probably due to his down to earth and friendly personality. His personality shines through in his videos, but is that the true Connor Franta? A Work in Progress dives deep into Franta’s life, past, present, goals, fears, etc. It is an in-depth look into his life outside YouTube and what YouTube means to him.
Personally, I have never been a major fan of Franta’s videos. I watched them occasionally and found them to be funny and entertaining. So, when I was asked to review his memoir I jumped at the opportunity to see a different side of such a public figure. Overall I enjoyed his memoir, however the depth of how much a reader will like it is directly related to how much that reader likes the author.
A Work in Progress is written as if Franta is talking to the reader directly, which gives it a personal and direct feel while still maintaining professional prose. In the memoir Franta talks about his identity and body image issues, as well as his sexuality in his teen years. He was able to stress the importance of being yourself, while keeping it light hearted making the passages fun to read.
Throughout the book there are photographs, taken by Franta himself, anecdotes, photos of his childhood, and homework that add an extra layer to the memoir. It allows the reader to see Franta’s past in an intimate way and to showcase Franta’s personal side that he does not show in his YouTube videos.
A Work in Progress is about a young man discovering who he is and what it means to live the life you want to live. This memoir has many great messages that should be heard more often.
Overall I enjoyed this book, however I would only recommend it to those who are fans of Franta’s otherwise you might find this book a little dull (since he is only twenty-two, so he hasn’t had much life experience to share).

If you are over the age of 18, please do not believe these reviews. Goodreads, oh how you have let me down! Early in the book, the author asks the reader if they can believe that he is writing a book and he is only 22? Yes, I can believe you are writing it, but I cannot believe that a publisher gave you an advance for said text. Here are my thoughts after reading half of this text (before I couldn't take it anymore): FOMO is not a disease and I do not need strategies to overcome it. When you are an adult, you will no longer FaceTime with your friends once a week. And that's OK. I do not think you are brave for standing on a chair at a cafe to take a picture of your breakfast. There are millions of other people in the world that show true bravery each day. This is not one of those examples. Ugh.

Connor Franta is a YouTuber with over 4 million subscribers. He posts a five minute long video every week and just talks. Whether it's about a simple thing like the kind of pizza he likes or something as deep as the meaning of life. At 22 he's decided to write a book about his journey towards doing what he really loves. Making YouTube videos.
This book might seem like one of those inspirational books with nothing to say but it's different. It feels real. It feels raw. It feels like you're talking to your best friend and not just some adult who's constantly judging you because of every single thing you have done or doing or you might ever do.
What really fascinates me is that I found out we're all the same. Despite the gender, age, cultural, belief differences we're all the same. Worrying about same things, wishing for exactly what another person wishes across the planet, and doing everything we can to discover the secrets of life and so on.
Not so long ago I wrote a post in my blog about not knowing what to expect from my life, my age and all these seconds that are passing by with the speed of light. Well thank you Connor you just answered that!!!

Just when I thought I couldn't love Connor more than I already do. Take a deeper look into the life, mind and soul of Connor Franta. Truly this book is an extension of his videos that I've been waiting for. Bravo Connor!

Well, just saying aesthetically this book is ticking all the boxes. It's got a gorgeous cover, the pictures inside are amazing, the formatting and the text and nice and the pages themselves feel good. P happy about that
As for the content, I did like this. I didn't think it was GREAT. Not really at any fault of Connor's I just think it was aimed at people a: a little younger then me (like, kids who are 13-15) and b: people more actually into Connor and his youtube. I like Connor Franta's youtube but I wouldn't say I'm a massive fan.
Some parts of this book I genuinely really enjoyed and some parts felt robotic and forced. It was all very typical advice like "live in the moment!" and "be who you really are" which is all well and good but also kind of corny and non-inspiring since I've heard it all before a million times
But in no way would I say this memoir is bad. Some of the things Connor has done to get his YouTube career at the level it is today are really brave, and inspiring. I particular liked the parts about him moving to LA to pursue his YouTube career, and also the sections about his coming to terms with his sexuality.
Overall, this memoir was fine but nothing amazingly special. Beside the look/feel of it -- it's BEAUTIFUL!

I've never seen Connor's videos before and I'm typically disappointed in books by YouTubers. But I seen so much hype around this book that I picked it up and I actually really liked it.
A Work in Progress is very well written and in a style that feels conversational. I felt like I was friends with Connor and was just hanging out, listening to his stories.
It was really interesting to read about Connor's life and he seems like a really cool person. All of his stories are well spoken and not overly detailed.
I really enjoyed the photos scattered throughout the book and how unique this book felt compared to other memoirs I've read.
Overall, I really enjoyed A Work in Progress and would recommend it if you're looking for a great non-fiction read.

Connor is frankly someone who uses absolutes too much. There is a fine line between talking about your experiences and just giving advice and he fades the line - in a way that doesn't really work. I sometimes got so bored I didn't even notice I got to the sexuality 'chapter', which happened to be the one I was looking forward to. It would make sense to talk about something that happened and what his advice is from that, not just giving random advice about things that he hasn't and probably will never experience.
The creativity chapter pissed me off a lot, as does the whole thing about routine and such. "ALWAYS go with your gut decision" I once had a gut decision to drink till I died. I don't think I should have gone with that. So please. He barely ever acknowledges that humans can be both sides of the spectrum AND in the middle of it. So either a person is completely artistic or completely not creative. Also obviously EVERYONE is suffering from not having the means to express themselves!! Wow!!! People who wanna be a lawyer or a doctor actually enjoy it?! GASP!!!!!!!!!! My god. I don't feel a need to be creative. I feel uneasy that he is telling me that I should feel like this. Chill.
I refuse to take advice from a guy who dropped out of college in his sophomore year and thinks he is so educated because he learns from his experiences1!!!(Even a freakin cat doesn't eat something again that made it sick once) and took a philosophy class. My goodness.
Not to mention some of the most random pictures...they are beautiful but how on earth does a picture of a pigeon connect to a lecture about philosophy?! Maybe a picture of the university you attended or something...but that is just SO random.

connor. you are defiantly my favorite celebrity ever. your words inspire me to want to do better, to be happy and myself. to reach for my goals. I already feel the impact your book has placed on my life. thank you connor for going through all the hard things you did to get to where you are today. your story is incredible and I wish to find more like it. please everyone! read this book, and let's it change the way you look at life for the better.

First of all, let me tell you how much I admire Connor and his work as a creator not only of videos, but a creator of ART with his poems and awe-inspiring videos where you can know him better and better and feel him near of you. What was my experience with this book in a few words? I HAVE A LITTLE CONNOR FRANTA IN PAPER. Really, guys. This book was like having a conversation with him: a profound and deep conversation that you could not find in his videos because here he explores a LOT of topics and by LOT I mean a LOOOOT.
I am gonna tell you my experiences and opinions about those topics he talks about. First, I read in one review that Connor only talks about personality and being yourself. FALSE. FALSE. FALSE. I made a list of the topics, and here we go!
-MISTAKES: He talks about how important it is to learn about our mistakes and that we grow up making mistakes and mending ‘em. The title of this beautiful book is the best (and explains this very well); we all are a WORK IN PROGRESS: We fall, we rise and we continue growing. *Inserts claps*
-FAMILY: Connor writes about how important it was to him his family when he talked them about his sexuality. Also, he presents his family to us through a family tree and tell us about the beginning of the love story of his parents-that was better than one love story of Nicholas Sparks-. Just sayin’
-Friendship: We arrive to the most beautiful of the chapters and one of my favorites and that touched me the most. His definition of friendship and what it really involves made me think and think and not fear the long-distance-friendships.
-Fear of Missing Out: One of the most homesick chapters. What is left to us or others when we or they are gone? This made think about oblivion. And that was great ‘cause this book makes you feel but also THINK.
And there are a lot of other topics (I feel that I missed some) like: Art, photos, scars, body image, school, human being, tags, YouTube, sexuality, be yourself, love, happiness/sadness, dreams, etc.
The way he talks to you, the reader, is awesome. JUST FREAKING AWESOME. Is electric, fun, touching and deeply moving. Is like Connor in a large video talking only to you like the most intimate friend. The narrative tone is light and very easy to read (because it feels like a conversation, like I said before).
I also want to talk about the ART this book includes. A work in progress combines very well the text and the images. The images are not simple photos, NOT, they are-like Connor Franta-, pure art that captures very well the essence of this person and the moments he wants to transmit. The graphics and colors are stunning and a visual pleasure. THANKS FOR THAT! Really, this is like a Connor Franta’s mirror where is reflected the art, the beauty and the light and shadows of him.
Besides, additionally for the art and narrative, there is a special magic in this memoir-and is the thing that make it a GREAT memoir-: how Connie opens himself and talks to you without no prejudice nor fear and is just your friend who tells you everything without the fear of what if he judges me? I really appreciate his sincerity and how warmth I felt him next to me.
I am very saver when it comes to post-its, but I could not resist ‘cause I loved every picture and sentence. In this memoir, we find a whole Connor Franta: a boy who is himself with the world, who is not afraid of telling who he really is, who trust his dreams, who defeated his fears and climbs the mountain with decision while contagious you with joy and inspiration with every sentence and picture. Art, dreams, joy, souls, love, friendships, family… Connor talks about everything and ‘bout his experiences that are deeply moving and interesting.
I invite you to read and enjoy this great expression of art, because you will find the work of a very creative boy that has not changed the whole world (well, just a part of it) but has changed my whole world, and I CANNOT express how thankful I am.

This book is just purely fantastic. Every word written in here is like magic. I was moved while reading this book, Connor Franta really is an inspiration to all of us. I didn't expect to like a memoir, but this was out-of-this-world amazing! I have been watching him since maybe last year, I know I'm late but his videos are absolutely the bomb.

I have been admiring him since I started following his Instagram account because every picture he takes is captured so well. Reading this book explains why he takes specific pictures, and his reason is just rich with meaning.
What I like about him is that he cares. He cares for the impoverished, having a project called The Thirst Project to help provide clean drinking water in Africa, and guess what, he raised at least $230,000, and this project makes him awesome.
In this book, he teaches you how to stand up for yourself even though a lot of people judge you for what you are doing. In the end, they will be envious of what you are doing, and they will appreciate everything you do. When you aspire to do something, then do it. Bullies aside, they are just a mere phase to go and continue what you have always dreamed to be.
Since his childhood, he was the type of person who wants everyone to like him, but he soon realized that it was nonsense unless you really have a special someone whom you can tell your secrets to.

That's what labels do-- they provide a launch pad for judgment. However people view you, there will be times when you will be judged, often harshly and wrongly. And it will be based on what you do, wear, or like and the friends you hang around with. If you're highly intelligent, you'll be an "overachiever." If you're incredibly kind, you'll be "a goody-goody." If you're a little shy and quiet, you'll be "boring" or "awkward." But trust me, the judgment says more about the labeler than the labeled.

I’m going to admit something pitiful right now; I’ve always struggled to get into YouTube. I have no problem watching the videos with friends; I actually enjoy when they show me the latest and greatest stories, songs, or skits. However, I’ve never purposefully set out to click that frightening app and find people I want to follow on my own.
I read this because a friend thrust it into my hands and told me to read it during a road trip. My family was taking a vacation in Florida, and one way was 15 hours. I figured, what the heck, might as well give it a shot. Besides, there are lots of pictures and it’s only a little over 200 pages.
I was expecting pretty much what I got; an aesthetically pleasing novel, inside and out. I’ve seen a handful of Connor’s videos, and I’ve always liked his charisma so I knew something written by him (if it was actually written by him; celebrity memoirs are tricky that way) would be entertaining at least. It was. You could tell he wrote it. His humor and talent for storytelling are present in the scattered stories and tips.
I loved all the pictures. It added to the feel and even the emotion of this little book. It gave even more personality to an already personable book. Connor really has an eye as a photographer.
Overall, an adorable book shelf addiction for YouTube fans and anyone who enjoys a life story written with humor and honestly.

So this is a millennial memoir? Not surprised by the ultra short chapters as he flits about from topic to topic as part of this moment of attention span generation. And while he is forthcoming in sharing his experience he's a bit arrogant thinking that as a 22-year-old he has so much wisdom to share. Granted, he does have the self-awareness to have made a few personal discoveries, but that is what high school and college is all about. Book is mostly self-promotional and condescending.
And the 4.5 overall review has got to speak to his popularity because it doesn't speak to his turn of a phrase or depth of content.

I am not going to pretend this book was written gold. I can tell you right now that the simple writing style is not going to cut it for some readers. I understand that, honestly, but for me, it captured the essence of Connor and his videos and that is all I need. You can hear him reading it to himself exactly as it's written on the page. It's quirky and fun but more importantly: creative, clever and thoroughly heart-warming. I've taken a lot out of reading this book, and I am sure a lot of people will too.

No voy a negar que me ha resultado algo decepcionante. "A Work In Progress" es un libro que entretiene y gana puntos por Connor, que es (para mí) uno de los mejores youtubers actuales, pero existe una tendencia a la autoayuda que no me ha gustado nada; esperaba saber un poco más en profundidad su forma de ver el mundo, y creo que eso ha quedado eclipsado por demasiados capítulos cuyo mensaje, a pesar de su positivismo, ya lo hemos visto antes.
Entretenido, acompañado de bonitas fotografías, pero algo descafeinado para lo que es Connor. Aún así, es recomendable para sus fans.

"Allow yourself to go there and add your splash of color to the world."
La verdad es que no esperaba que este libro me gustase ni una décima parte de lo que me ha gustado.
Este libro no es, ni de lejos, de mi estilo. No me gustan los libros que no cuentan una historia, no me gustan los libros en los que un tío se pone a hablar de lo que piensa de tal o X cosa. Es más, me suelen aburrir. Pero por algún motivo ha sido maravilloso conocer el mundo de Connor Franta, sus opiniones, y su forma de ver el mundo.
Me ha gustado mucho ver la evolución de este "personaje" que es Connor. Leer sobre cuando era pequeño y cómo pensaba entonces, y cómo la vida lo ha ido haciendo cambiar. Si no fuera porque estamos hablando de una persona en lugar de un personaje ficticio, diría que es uno de los mejores character development que he leído.
Además, el libro está bien escrito. De verdad. Cierto es que quizás ni siquiera lo haya escrito él, pero la cuestión es que el libro tiene un ritmo muy ligero, muy cálido y que además te hace reír cada dos páginas. En serio, era como si una persona te estuviese hablando a ti directamente, contándote su vida. No sé, me ha gustado. Además, se lee de una sentada.
"Raise your hand if you like every single aspect of your appearance. Unless Beyoncé is reading this book, there should be no hands in the air."
Pero si tuviese que describir este libro en una palabra, diría inspirador. Es uno de esos libros que hace que te den ganas de levantarte y hacer cosas, de ponerte a escribir, pintar, tocar el piano, o lo que sea. Es uno de esos libros que te anima a luchar por lo que quieres. En fin, quizás sea que yo lo he leído un día que estaba más sensible de lo normal y me he emocionado.

En conclusión: merece que le echéis un vistazo. Aunque sea por las fotos.

Ok, I finishied it and I think I was a bit harsh before. He is mature for his age, I remember when I was in my early twenties, believe me, far from being mature. Still my paragraph about Labeling is valid.

If it's not labeling someone tell me what exactly this is? Maybe it got on my nerves exactly because I'm in my mid thirties but still.
