DeShawn Hatcher in just 12 short years has seen her career blossom. Her roster has many A-listers: Grammy winners, Academy Award nominees, All-Star athletes, dignitaries, Fortune 500 Executives and movie legends. Vanessa Williams says about DeShawn, “DeShawn’s genius brought out the beauty inside me.” She has worked with Beyonce, Tom Cruise and Annette Bening to name a few.

DeShawn’s determination to become a leading makeup artist led her to master makeup complexities and solutions for all ethnicities in all mediums/media of Print, Video, Film, High Definition TV, Beauty, Fashion and 3D. A perfect training ground to becoming a masterful beauty and fashion makeup artist is to work with the industry's best and DeShawn has. She has been on set with famed photographers David LaChapelle, Joyce Tenninson ,Mark Seliger, beauty photographer Fadil Berisha and so many others.

As a beauty expert and educator she possesses an innate ability to lead with humor, class and her belief that every student must leave her with knowledge they did not posses when they entered. All of this comes in handy when she is the key makeup artist for several Mercedes Benz Fashion Week shows, and as Beauty Director for the Cotton's 24 Hour Runway show, (and yes it is 24 hours) since 2012. It is the Guiness Record for the world's only 24 hour runway show. DeShawn creates over 200 hair and makeup looks and runs a staff of over 80 talented artists for 24 hours.

She has also broadened her skills behind-the scenes as the Creative Director and Producer for many editorials as well as for Nixie Cosmetics 2006-7 season. DeShawn was also hand picked by Revlon to be lead educator and artist for their Fabulash nation-wide tour. Her work can be seen world wide in over 75 fashion magazines from Vogue (Mexico), Vanity Fair, to cool indie magazines Zink and Bullett, as well as on TV for Entertainment Tonight, The Insider and many more.

You can also find DeShawn Hatcher mentoring, demonstrating her makeup techniques and lecturing on the business of editorial beauty throughout the country."It is always so important for me to give back to an industry who has been so giving towards me." When she not teaching she is sharing her knowledge with almost 100,000 aspiring makeup artists throughout the world through her blog DeShawn Loves Makeup, a blog by a makeup artist for makeup artists. AS of 2015 she has added columnist to her many attributes. DeShawn is now a contributing beauty expert and columnist for the national fashion and beauty publication Today's Black Women's Style Report where DeShawn's column "The Beauty Buzz" is featured. DeShawn has also created a special program for high school students "Senior Picture Day" is in its tenth year as of 2014. She and her team go to various high schools throughout New York and provide makeup and grooming for their yearbook photos for free. "When I started the program I thought it would just be a fun day of makeup but it has turned into a beauty/empowering session with the students and I couldn't be prouder."

DeShawn a native New Yorker, resides in fabulous Brooklyn NY and tries to remain a very centered Libra.

Great information, but this book seriously needs an editor. So many typos and misspellings that it distracted me from the message. The information and the "homework" type assignments are great though.

The information in this book will greatly help every artist who wants to work in Commercial, Editorial, TV & Film industry. It is truly a must have to learn what to, and more importantly, what not to do on set. Gets straight to the point and there will definitely be aahhhhaaa moments. Great for new as well as established artists. Speed up your career with Assisting Rules!

This book has completely catapulted me into greatness. It’s a must read. I’ve read it literally more than 5 times at this point!

Definitely needs further editing, but the content is incredible!!! This book has already given me the tools to take the first steps in my career.
