I’ve also been writing for as long as I can really remember. I wrote my first story, The Blue Ruby, when I was about seven (if I can find that deathless prose scribbled in an exercise book somewhere, I might upload it here for a bit of light relief). Throughout college and university, I experimented with screenplays and scripts (I was studying Film and English at the time at the University of East Anglia), as well as other more short stories. In my twenties, I started my first novel, finished it, then my second, then my third. In my thirties, I was slightly side-tracked by the birth of my son but, leaving aside that trifling distraction, managed to write my fourth..
I didn’t bother trying to get the first novel published as I saw it as more of a practise run at this business of being an author. With the second, I entered the 2004 Lit Idol competition and got to third place. That was my ticket to publication, I thought, surely? Hah! Just the first in a long line of disappointments, of which every writer must be familiar… hopes built up to then be smacked down again. I had an agent approach me after the competition and on their encouragement, I finished, edited and polished the manuscript, sent it off to them with happy hopes – to be told months later that they didn’t think it was quite right for them..
Gutted, but enthusiasm relatively undimmed, I started on a new novel, inspired in part by the dramatic events of 2005 – the London bombings. I also wrote a short story at the same time on the same subject – it was on my mind a lot that summer (unsurprisingly. Freedom Fighter is the story – available on Amazon as part of The Mourning After short story collection). This novel The House on Fever Street (written under my maiden name Celina Alcock) was shortlisted for the 2006 Crime Writers’ Association Debut Dagger Award. Aha, I thought, a fairly prestigious and industry recognised award. This will get me published. Did it? Did it buggery!.
The House on Fever Street was also longlisted in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award of that year, which garnered me some nice reviews and a much needed ego boost but didn’t advance my career as a published author much further..
So what next for our doughty heroine? She ups and writes her fourth novel, gains an agent and thinks now, now I have finally made it as a published author! And she waits. And waits. And waits some more. And then waits a bit more. And a bit more. Finally, for variety, she waits a bit more..
So, after two years of waiting, reading about self-publishing on Amazon and other platforms, I believe a phrase that ends in ‘…for a game of soldiers’ passed my lips and I decide to publish myself. So I did. And here I am on Amazon, making sales. No publisher. No agent. Just me..
And that makes me VERY happy.

This is the 8th book in the Kate Redman series but it isn't truly dependent upon previous stories so you aren't obligated to have read all the others, although I have.
This is a book at is really mostly about the crime and investigation where some of the earlier ones have gotten bogged down, in my opinion, with Kate's messy personal history, private life and dysfunctional family members.
This story is ripped from the headlines when a man is found dead on a beach he is assumed to be a migrant, and the story hits on many of the issues of the migrant crisis. We get opinions of a variety of characters on the situation. Kate also has to adapt to working with another jurisdiction and a new pseudo partner who is a woman which leads Kate to examine her own behavior.
There is also a hint of her personal life with her partner, Tin. Kate still has trust issues and anger issues.

When a body is found on the beach, two police jurisdictions decide to work together on the case. Kate is less than thrilled when she's paired with the abrasive Chloe. They work through their differences, and learn that the deceased is an Eritrean refugee, and that he was murdered. The search for information centers on Sanctuary, a charity allegedly dedicated to helping refugees. When there is another murder, Kate's worried that it won't be the last. Recommended for readers who enjoy well-written British police procedurals.

Another great story in the DS Kate Redman series! I have been following Kate since book 1 Hushabye and love the way she keeps developing as every book brings out more of her personality.
This latest case is very topical involving the discovery of a body that may be that of an illegal immigrant. Due to the location of the body, Kate must work with her opposite number in the neighbouring police force, DS Chloe Wapping. To say they don't hit it off is an understatement, as Kate takes exception to Chloe thinking her rude and abrupt. But there is a case to solve and possibly more murders if they don't work together to investigate further.
I really enjoy following Kate through her professional and personal life. She seems very settled with Tin, her journalist boyfriend but there is a bit of a bombshell at the end which makes me very keen to see what Celina plans to do with Kate next!

As morning approaches at Muddiford Beach a body of a man is discovered. A possible illegal immigrant, a refugee? Without knowing exactly who's area the body belongs to it becomes a joint operation between Salterton and Abbeyford CID. This could only lead to more problems, especially when another body is found.

This is #8 in a mystery series which contains a LOT of books. I don't normally jump into a series in the middle like this, but the book was free and I thought I'd see how I liked the characters. Well, I liked DS Kate Redman, even though I didn't know her backstory or understand the relationship with her colleagues. When the body of an African man is found on the beach, dressed in shabby clothes, the first assumption is that he was an asylum seeker who drowned trying to swim to Britain. The investigation has to be a joint one with the neighboring police force, and Kate is forced to work with Chloe, to whom she takes an instant dislike. As they work together and discover more about the man and a company called Sanctuary, which helps refugees and asylum seekers, they meet people at the local (very small) branch of Sanctuary. When another death occurs, and Kate recognizes a picture, she and Chloe begin working together to investigate the deaths and Sanctuary. This was a very interesting book - I will probably go back to the beginning and try reading the series in order. However, there are a GREAT many books in the series!

I enjoyed this Kate Redman mystery. This time Kate joins forces with a fellow woman officer from a neighboring town to solve the mystery of a man found washed up on the beach...soon followed by another death. Kate's boyfriend Tin (the journalist) adds some complications to their relationship. If you haven't read the other books in this series no worries because the author does a good job of bringing you up to speed on the other characters. But I highly recommend reading them all.

Bring on book 9
A really well-written police procedural with Kate Redman, one of my favourite female detectives. This time Kate has to work with a female officer from a nearby station and at first the relationship is quite antagonistic. However once these 2 women get over their prejudices they work really well together. Kate is very intuitive a and works on her gut instincts a lot of the time.

I felt uninvolved and I’m not sure why because this trope normally works for me . I havent read other books in this series so maybe that was a factor. Although the situations of the cast were worthy of empathy, there wasnt enough personal depth to make me care. Maybe it’s one of those ‘it’s me not you’ moments but even if it is, I’ll let this series go by.

Another gem in this series.....she did use a couple of Americanisms again BUT also wrote realise so she's coming round to English spellings, I hope. It does seem peculiar to set her books here and then to always use Americanised spelling !!
I really enjoy this series of books and I intend to be sticking with them. I do hope Kate won't be taking Tin up on his offer.. He didn't really consider her much before forging on ahead after all.
This was a pretty topical subject where illegal immigrants here are mentioned. Though she did get my back up as she rued how an illegal came here and died saying...."to have survived a perilous sea crossing only to die on a beach of the country that had taken you in" which was wrong because he HAD landed in Greece, not here. This happens all the time, they don't stay where they land, which they're supposed to and therein lies THE massive issue. I agreed with Rav's opinion on this subject. She also challenged someone to name a serial killer who murdered across genders and I immediately thought of Brady and Hindley.
I REALLY liked the addition of Chloe and I hope she'll be featuring again very soon. Kate needs a regular female colleague for a change, let alone a pal. There were a couple of very touching moments in this story that gave me a sniffy pause but also the regular humour among the detectives, too.
And in this book she also spelt discernible correctly, though she did mention that hissing (as opposed to pissing) rain again !!
The only errors I spotted were one apostrophe error (Sanderby's) which was irritating as it was correct the rest of the time, turn off needed hyphenating and she lost a word from this sentence: "....she'd seen at window" and all these mistakes were right at the end of the book for some reason like the proofreader was interrupted before the end. However, this is a tremendous improvement in presentation and I was so pleased to see it and enjoy the reading experience so much.

DS Kate Redman arrived soon after.
5 Salterton CID, DCI George Atwell, DS Chloe Wapping (Salterton PD), & Dr. Ivor Gatkiss (pathologist) were there also.
Dr. Andrew Stanton (pathologist, Kate’s ex-BF) was examining the corpse.
What did Alan Hardcastle (retired harbor master, Muddiford Beach Trust volunteer) tell DS Redman, % DS Wapping?
Ali Araya was the deceased.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written murder mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great murder mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

It is not one of the usual detective stories, which focus majorly on twists and the crime factor. And although one of the reviews informed me that this story in the Kate Redman series deals much less with Kate on a personal level and involves little of her side stories and introspection compared to the other stories, I was able to get a taste of that from what I read. And truth be told, I am not too sure if that has to be a negative.
The crime itself (and its solution) wasn't too impressive, but at the same time was not boring. Somehow, I breezed through the book and was left with a slight urge to start the series from the beginning. Recently I have been wanting to read more European stories (yes, I am aware British is as European as tomatoes are a fruit) to sort of soak in the autumn and winter vibes in all their glory, and I reckon that a detective series of multiple parts with a female protagonist, set in the same location would be a good choice.
Honestly, I'm still not getting the vibes I have in my head, but hey - I'm a sucker for murder novels so let's see!

My 2nd Celina Grace book and also my 2nd in her series of Kate Redman Mysteries. I enjoyed this very much and didn't get it worked out until near the end which is always good! I like these kind of mysteries where there isn't too much blood and gore! Reminds me a little of Agatha Christie.

A very good read, more mystery than police procedural. I especially like the way main character Kate, & Chloe, her unwanted partner in this investigation, are slowly developing a good relationship. I expect they will be partnered in future books. The mystery, involving refugees fleeing from torture & destruction is, sadly, a timely theme.
I can't imagine why a big publisher has not grabbed Celine Grace's books. She is a prolific writer of what I suspect are all absorbing mysteries. The 5th star is blank only because I 'd like more & deeper backstories of characters. But these may have been developed in previous books in this series.
I definitpely recommend Sanctuary.

Number 8 in the Kate Redman Series, a solid "Whodunit" with a likeable protagonist. This time,a corpse is washed up at the beach, and Kate has to work together with a team from the other district - which she doesn't like at all.
All is not as it seems, and as Chloe and Kate learn to work together, more and more clues are revealed.
I quite like this series, although sometimes the way Kate's past creeps up makes the story too sombre for my taste, and sometimes seems not relevant to the plot at the time.
All in all, though, a good read with an equally good narration style, and gathering of clues where the reader has at least a chance to guess who did it.

I found the story OK, a reasonable plot but not twisty enough to stop me guessing half of the guilty parties.
The content seemed to be at least as much about emotions and relationships as about policing, so not really my preference.
The author could do with a decent editor, to get rid of wrong words (draft instead of draught being one), the promotion of Constable Smith to Sergeant Smith in the space of two pages, and perhaps review the chick lit bias.
But you may like this sort of writing, so give it a try.

Another satisfying escape!
Reading a Kate Redman mystery is a great escape for me. I love it every time I escape to Abbeyford and spend some time with Kate. The sense of place is so real as are the people you meet. I especially enjoyed Chloe and. Kate’s relationship of discovery in this story. The mysteries are always satisfying too. It is about people not just a puzzle. I live in Kentucky in the US but look forward to my next visit to the UK by way of Abbeyford!

Another case to solve..
The team along with a neighboring team of detectives were obligated to work a case together. Despite the initial animosity, relationships may have developed (wink, wink). Initial negative impressions of some were disproved. DI Kate Redman once again played out her insecurities, only to end with yet another potentially life changing decision to consider. Another cliff hanger to look forward to.

Kate is paired with her counterpart from another station. Initially, sparks fly between both women, but they grow to get along quite well with each other. They are investigating a few deaths of refugees, but it turns out that something entirely different is going on. I enjoyed the story, just not as much as some of the previous one.

Have not read many of this author, but this is a good one to start.
Kate Redman is a police officer in England. Her skills are both intuitive and result of years of police work. She uses both in this murder mystery. Two victims and is there one killer or two? Enjoyed reading this hope you will too.

This is another book in a series featuring british cop/detective Kate Redman. These are decent mysteries, but nothing extraordinary. This was okay at best. Bodies keep ending up on the beach beneath cliffs. Who done it? There were really limited suspects so the answer wasn't a great surprise. The main characters are likeable enough, but not enough to carry the book. On to the next.

The 8 th book in this great series, can be read alone. We follow Kate as she has a case that is jointly with another county a body found on the beach. Thinking he is a migrant, until another turns up. Her boyfriend Tim, a journalist, seems to understand her call outs. A series that readers will enjoy, and following Kate in her personal, and professional life.

Very good series...
This is at least the third or fourth Kate Redman book I've read. They have all been well-written and well-plotted. The characters have depth and believability. Best of all, the endings have been satisfying and I haven't guessed the identity of the bad guys. I'll definitely read more of Celina Grace's stories.

As usual, Kate Redman Mysteries doesn't disappoint. A very enjoyable read. I particularly liked that she joined efforts with a colleague from another station to work on a case. That is indicative of rhe cooperation that could, should and is the manner in which law enforcement thrives.
I highly recommend this series to any and all and , personally, look forward to my next read by Ms. Grace.

Ok
I spent about 85% of the book wondering what the heck was going on. This was no Agatha Christie where you had all the clues. You just had to slog on to the end, which didn’t really match the big buildup, until Kate provided the answer. Celina Grace is a good writer so it wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t well plotted.

This series is the best I have read in a long time. I just love it. All the characters have become favourites. Kate and the team are called to a murder scene that first looks like a refugee drowning but the pm shows he had been murdered.

Another great story
The author is one of the most important and influential writers of her time. She has a great way of keeping your interest all through the novel. A person can almost think with Kate as she gets to crux of the story.

Bodies washing ashore, or did they? Women in police work, and of course even a trip to the dictionary to look up a new word. If UK vs US english doesn't affect your suspension of disbelief, you'll have a great time with this book.

Not the "Can't put it down story."
While I didn't love this story as I did all the other Kate Redman stories but I liked it. Good characters, humorous relationships and bonding of new friends. Several twists and turns and easily read characters.
