The quest for the Kamidogu daggers continues…Fight!

Great changes are coming to Outworld and Earthrealm alike. Whether they seek to protect the worlds of gods and men or to rule them, Kombatants new and old are heading towards bloody conflict.

Hoping to thwart the coming evil, Raiden has conscripted Hanzo Hasashi—Scorpion—and his charge, Takeda Takahashi, to gather the mystical Kamidogu daggers. Their journey leads them to an old foe who holds one of the powerful cursed weapons—Kuai Liang, the ninja known as Sub-Zero! With Sub-Zero corrupted by the Blood Magik of the dagger and Scorpion's deadly thirst for vengeance, the two will lock in a Mortal Kombat for the ages!

Elsewhere, Kotal Kahn faces a challenge to his rule from the scorned tribe of the Shokan. King Gorbak is leading an army of Shokan and Oni warriors powerful enough to decimate the Emperor of Outworld. Though Kahn refuses to unleash his Kamidogu's Blood Magik again, he has an unlikely group of allies in the Earthrealmers Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. The pair only wishes to rescue their daughter from the clutches of Reiko, but first they'll have to help Kahn protect his throne—which means an alliance with Kano and the Black Dragon!

Writer SHAWN KITTELSEN continues his epic debut with the help of artists DEXTER SOY (DC UNIVERSE VS MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE), IGOR VITORINO (Green Hornet) and DANIEL SAMPERE (BATGIRL) as they paint the blood-soaked story that leads into the video game phenomenon in MORTAL KOMBAT X: BLOOD GODS! Collects issues #5-8.

The multiple storylines from the first volume converge into two: the recovery of the daggers to keep Shinnok imprisoned and the war in the Otherworld. The focus is still on the daggers that can control a person's mind and give them greater strength and resilience.

Kotal agrees to help Sonya and Cage to find Cassie. But first Kotal has to contend with a war with the Shokan - Goro's people. The Shokan have allied themselves with the Oni Warlords and Kotal's side initially loses badly, but Kotal killing their leader throws them into disarray. Kotal is getting ready for the next assault and on top of it has his dagger stolen by Skarlet.

Hanzo and Takeda continue their mission to gather the daggers called Kamidogu that imprison Shinnok. Reiko is doing the same, so eventually they will be fighting each other to own the whole set.

I just loved this series. The illustrations are beautiful in an intense way that really transposes the video game into a comic book. All the violence and action are also well transpose; there is a ton of it and that why I enjoy it. You don’t read or play Mortal Kombat for a deep and intense storyline. You enjoy this brand for the action, the violence and the characters.

This book was about six kamidou spread into six different realms and all of them have whats called Blood Magik (yes spelled with a k). They are all the conciousness of what is called the one being. There is a man named Havik who tries to get all of the Kamidogu and he ends up fighting scorpion and Takeda. Meanwhile Kotal Khan the rule of outworld has Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage along with some other special forces crew to help fight the Shokan which is a race of four arms tall and deadly warriors there are two sub-species, the Royal Bloodline of Draco and the 2nd class Tigrar species but they are both hybrids between humans and dragons... Afterwards Kotal Khan and his servants help Sonya and Johnny find their daughter and their family friends daughter Jacqui Briggs.... Now Sonya and Johnny are part of the Special Forces who work for the U.S. Military. Havik is a tall strong scary looking Chaosrealmer where his face is a skull but the rest is humanoid even his hair. He has a weird out fit where on half of his chest has armor and the other half is sashes. Its weird. Scorpion otherwise known as Hanzo Hasashi has a ninja outfit with two shulder things come down into one he has a hood and has two katanas on his back. and he is tall. Takeda in the comic has a mask that covers his mouth that looks like a skull, a bit like Haviks but Takeda actually looks like a normal person with and without it. Takeda wears a grey shirt and a yellow sash and a grey sash and regular dark pants with arm guards and boots. Now Sonya Blade wears a shirt under this sweater with long pants and shorts that cover them. She has dog tags and holsters with pockects all over her pants and her sweater. She has her hair in a very long braid with a cap her hair s blonde and has these things on her forearms that can blast these energy things fom them its like really cool. Shes 5"9' and still kicks butt at forty something. Johnny cage is a tall guy with a humorous attitude and in this book he isnt as cockey as he s in the games before Mortal Kombat X game. And he has sunglasses on most of the time he has brown hair with grey streaks in it a shirt with a vest and has Khakis with grips gloves on his hand and tape on his forearm to him hand. Then we have Kotal Kahn... No shirt no pants (hes not naked!) and he has this really big helmet with feathers coming out of the back. He has these underwear thingies and that thing hanging down the middle that I dont know the name of and there is bones on it and he has arm guards also his skin has markings all of it because they are filled depending on which vaiation he has he has blood god sun god and war god and heres a twist... His skin is blue and he has unicorn horns comng out of his nose but obviously they are tiny and the each go away from the center of his nose, but in all reality he is super cool and can squeez someone so hard that their head pops off and the insides splatter over everywhere and what remains is just the outside of the body. But this book is super cool and awesome and I definatley would recomend it to someone who likes action and gore, with a twist of polotics because there are some polotics in the series aswell.

I did enjoy this volume slightly more than the first, mainly because I had a little better idea of what was going on as the story is a little more consolidated in this volume into two basic plots. I think I went into this expecting a simpler plot and instead this is a complex and layered story. And even at that, the characters included barely scratch the surface of what would be available in the Mortal Kombat universe.

I'd really like to see an anthology series focusing on individual characters rather than the large ensemble cast used here, but I doubt that's in the cards.

PL
EN
The second volume seems even more packed with energy and bloody duels. Shattered heads, broken limbs and a lot of iconic characters, which unfortunately did not appear in the tenth installment of the game, which is a pity.

- Blood God's: Departures and Arrivals. Art by Igor Vitorino.

Short synopsis/review: Six kamidogu blades are separated by Raiden and given over to different protectors, in order to keep the wrong hands from gathering all six and conquering the worlds. Side stories give insight into rivalries and bad bloods, like Scorpion to Sub-Zero, Sonya and Johnny, Kotal Khan and Goro. Ultimately, a few are looking to usurp power for themselves, like Mileena and Reiko and Goro, while others are simply caught up in protecting their clans, families, and races. The Cages and Blades are kinda obnoxious. Hanzo, Laui, and Takeda are the most intriguing aspect of the story, with the Outerworld clan wars giving a mixed vibe of sword-and-sorcery and sci-fi.

Longer details: The Osh-Tekk, a once proud Outworld race, imperialist rulers over

Typically too much Scorpion and Sub Zero for my taste but the story goes preety deep for a comic based on a video game. Nice work!

SubZero's and Scorpion's fight was✨️ Justice for the Briggs family. Ship Cage/Blade. The war was crazy beyond. When Havik beat the crap out of Hanzo, and Takeda was there... I shed real tears for my men over here. Loved this book.

I won my copy through Goodreads Giveaways.
So other than the old live action movies and some old arcade games I was completely unfamiliar with the series, that said it was still easy to follow along with this volume. The story is bloody and gory at times but that is to be expected in this franchise. The artwork is gorgeous throughout.
