Jemma Larson knows tough times. She's been raising her baby brother ever since her parents perished in a car crash. As the owner of the popular blog, Entertainment with Jem, she has been using the income from her blog to keep them both fed and a roof over their heads. Now her blog's income is declining amidst vicious competition. Jemma needs to do something desperate to be able to feed and take care of herself and her little brother before Social Services comes calling again. Her greatest fear - having her beloved little brother taken from her. Jemma will do anything to prevent that. Even if it means going out on a limb with her blog.
Reading about new reality TV show heartthrob, Daniel Starke, an opportunity presents itself to get an exclusive interview with him. She knows this will boost her blog's readership and income. But everything she's read in the press about Daniel has him painted as a womanizing, self-centered jerk. Pushed to pay her bills, she agrees to the interview.
At their meeting, she realizes that Daniel is nothing like she expected - and sparks fly! Normally shy Jemma is now thrust into the spotlight. But nothing in the entertainment world as it seems, as Jemma is about to find out.
*This book contains some adult situations. 18+, mature audiences recommended.
New Adult Romance author. Reading was my earliest passion, often seeking the sanctuary of my room or the library to read everything I could get my hands on. I penned romantic poetry in high school and was winning school awards for my short stories at 16. In college I would hibernate in the library for days at a time, consuming every short story and novel I could find.
I probably drink too much coffee and eat too much junk food, but to compensate do like running and rollerblading outdoors when the weather is nice. I'm a hopeful romantic who prefers stories with a happy ending. You can often find me in a library or coffee shop working on my next story, or with my nose in a book.
Anyone who is a blogger, especially if you’re getting paid for each hit, and even if you’re not you might be able to relate to the situation Jemma Larson is facing in her life.
Picture if you will, your parents have been killed in a car accident, and you’re now the head of the household responsible for paying the bills, providing the daily necessities for not only yourself, but for your baby brother. And if you’re familiar with how fast a Social Services Agency will come in and break up a family when the youngest members of a family are not being taken care in the manner they deemed to be appropriate, then you’ll understand the dire situation Jemma Larson is beginning to face.
Jemma is no stranger in facing difficult times, especially financial ones, but with an ever increasing competition in the blogging world, she needs to come up with a viable idea which is sure to produce a phenomenal blog post, which will capture the attention of thousands of readers and be the envy of every other blogger.
But in order to accomplish this some sort of miracle to occur. It is then that fate steps in and gives her the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with none other than Daniel Starke, the newest infatuation of women on reality TV. However, according to everything she’s heard about this guy makes him out to no more than an egotistic, philandering idiot. Getting this interview would definitely mean a tremendous increase in her readers and the much needed income which would come along with it.
But as she quickly finds out, everything she’s heard has actually been lies and allegations caused by the proverbial gossip mills. Daniel, Jemma she discovers is a totally sweet and adorable hunk and sparks begin ignite in a relationship which pushes her into the forefront and forces her to discard the shyness she possessed up to now, while at the same time learning about the true world of entertainment.
While this might seem wonderful for Jemma, there an imposing negative side to the blogging world that she now faces, one which is fraught of jealousy of another blogger that can only be resolved with a confrontation.
This is one heck of a way to begin a series, and for enticing her readers in this manner, I’ve given Ms. Carlyle 5 STARS
When I saw the name of the book: Jemma 1: Entertainment with Jem, Book 1 by Clarissa Carlyle I was intrigued. Then I read the blurb about Jemma being a blogger an entertainment blogger, something that has always intrigued but I have never done an entertainment blog. I have a book review blog, but I don’t do entertainment. I really like how the author built the characters, Jemma, the blogger, her little brother Robbie who she is responsible for, her friend Maya and the heartthrob Daniel Starke. Of course, there are more characters but these four were pretty much the main ones for me. I thought the story started out fast, didn’t take long to understand the story and to be hooked. There is lots of drama, Jemma is trying to make a living blogging and has done good enough but of course wants better. She gets a chance to interview the star of a Reality TV show. She is excited to do the interview, but, Jemma is pretty shy and quiet, doesn’t like to cause a scene or even be in the middle of any drama, she just wants to do her blog. Of course, that can’t happen, come on, we have a reality tv star Daniel Starke who is hot and everyone wants a piece of him. Nothing can go smoothly. I will say that I really enjoyed reading this first book. I loved the authors style and she didn’t leave anything out. The story went smoothly. Easy to read and understand the characters. After I read the first book I had to read the second and am working on the whole series. This book was a fun book to read. This book does have adult situations.
Ok so I decided to give this book a shot and I'm so glad I did. It centers around a girl who lost her parents and is taking care of her younger brother. She's a blogger amongst other bloggers that focus on the same things. It really picks up and flows wonderfully and so far the storyline is good and it can go so many different ways which is great. The characters are wonderful and I need to read more of this book. Amazing writing to this new to me author. Now on to book 2.
Jemma 1 by Clarissa Carlyle is a celebrity romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Hannah Carmona.
This is the first book of Clarissa’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The book does end on a cliffhanger but it was no surprise since its part of a series. I look forward to reading the next book in the series Jemma 2 to get more of Daniel and Jemma’s love story.
Hannah did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.
I was gifted this audiobook in exchange for my honest unbiased review.
When I received this story I was excited that it wasn't a very long book only because I didn't know what I was getting into. I'd rather listen to a short story that has me wanting more than listening to a 12-hour book that just fell flat. This however, made me want more and wanted this story to be longer then the 2 hours that it was.
When the story opens we are introduced to Jemma who is basically a single mother who is raising her seven-year-old brother. She has been raising him since he was two and everything that she does is for him. She runs a blog that helps her pay for everything to take care of her brother. Daniel on the other hand is running off of the high and fame that starring in a reality show gave him. However for him, he is not being taken seriously as an actor but as a fickel reality star who has a bad boy reputation.
Both Daniel and Jemma are using one another to change how their lives are thanks to an interview that Daniel agreed upon. For Gemma it is to earn more money to take care of her brother and for Daniel it is to get him thinking about other things. Unfortunately for them Allie, a competing blogger, and Adam, Daniel's sometime competent agent, are not happy with the way the interview went. Allie thought she was going to be getting the exclusive because she is a new client of Adam however little do they know Daniel is not playing that game with them.
It is getting very interesting and I am excited for part 2 because the way it has ended made me want more.
The narration was not bad and I would listen to Hannah Carmona again.
Jemma is an older sister trying to help out her baby brother who is kind of a bad boy type and now she's been left to raise him when her parents are killed in a car crash. Jemma is also a blogger and that's where the plot of the story comes in. I really enjoyed this book, and I can relate to the things we'll do for those we love. Looking forward to reading book 2 of Jemma. Check it out for a good and entertaining read.
This audiobook is excellent. The story of a plain Jane and a gorgeous star was exciting. The author writes a great story of the excitement of a new relationship. Jemma has struggles as a sister taking care of her little brother in New York City and trying to make a living by blogging and meeting a reality star to help her business. And, of course, it backfires. The narrator does an excellent job with the characters and their personalities.
A nice start to the series. There's plenty (and I do mean plenty) of drama, high heat, some sweet and tender moments, and a little bit of heartache all wrapped into a novella with a cliffhanger. Well, it is a five part series so it was expected.
I like the narrator. She also did Managed (which I listened to first). I like having different voices in my head for different characters, especially when there's some crossover, but overall I'm not complaining.
For a while now Jemma Larson's blog has been her only way to pay for her bills, her house and for her brother's school fees. So when a rival blogger seems to be getting more and more hits than Jemma, she is honestly wondering what she can do to save her blog and all of her financial problems. Since Jemma's parents died in a car crash, she has had the job of raising her younger brother on her own and even though they have managed up until now, Jemma needs to think of a way to get her site the views she deserves.
Daniel Starke is a famous celebrity heartthrob, he's been looking for ways to be recognised for his talent but is having not a lot of luck. His manager only is interested in the money that he makes, even though sometimes he tries his hardest to make out to Daniel that it's only about his career he's concerned. So when he hears about having to have an interview with a blogger at first he is very reluctant but when he eventually agrees, he chooses to let Entertainment with Jem interview him. However nothing seems to be as simple as they expected.
When an opportunity arises for Jemma, she thinks hard about whether or not she should take it, but after looking into Daniel's eyes she see's more to him than what she's read. With everything out in the open will Daniel have made things worse for Jemma or possibly better. What will happen when Jemma accidently gets on the wrong side of another blogger. This is such an amazing start to a brand new series. I fell in love with Jemma as she puts her younger brother first before herself. You should give this a try as this is only just the beginning.
Wow. I guess I can now add Clarissa Carlyle to my favorite authors list. This was the first book of hers that I have read and I am hooked. It was like you were part of the story getting so wrapped up with the characters. I want to beat the pissed out of Ali. And Adam too for some reason. I can see Jemma and Daniel developing some real feelings and connecting with each other. I cannot wait to read the rest of this story. What a great introduction to a gifted author.
This was a fantastic read. Jemma is working hard to support her seven year old brother Robbie. She has her blog entertainment with jem, and she does interview with actor Daniel Starke . The sparks fly through the roof when he meets her. Jemma is in competition with another blogger named Ali. Here comes the battle! I can't wait to find out what happens in second book!.
Jemma 1 Entertainment with Jem, Book 1 (A Celebrity Romance) By: Clarissa Carlyle Narrated by: Hannah Carmona
I love books like this. Short, well thought out installments that just make me want more. Clarissa Carlyle starts out her series with a bang! Jemma Larson, blog writer, supports her younger brother after the untimely death of her parents. When given the opportunity to interview celebrity heartthrob, Daniel Starke, things should begin to look up for her. But when a rival blogger takes her on, things get messy. Will she be able to keep her reputation and her brother? What about the smoldering relationship with Daniel? Who will win the battle of the blogs? Carlyle writes a smart, yet steamy story about a young girl trying to get by. Jemma is a fantastic character. She is strong and determined, and puts family first. Daniel is the hero that is easy to fall for. He isn't your stereotypical celebrity which is refreshing. I can't wait to see what she has in store for these characters in the next installment!
Hannah Carmona's fresh narration brings it all to life with a great pace, passion and determination. It's my first narration by her and I enjoyed her voices. Looking forward to see what she has in store for us next!
This was a short but fantastic listen. The storyline captured my attention and held it from start to end. The characters are fabulous, particularly the MC. Jemma Larson knows and is very familiar with hardship. After her parents die in a car crash, she takes on the responsibility of raising her baby brother. Her blog is her only source of income. So when she takes a hit to a rival blogger, she needs to find a way to get her rating up before losing her financial source. Cab an interview with Daniel Starke, a celebrity heartthrob, be the answer?
Excellent narration by Hannah Carmona. She captures the characters' personalities and their emotions, bringing them to life. Jemma was a very enjoyable listen and, I strongly recommend it. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
Jemma is an entertainment blogger. It's her one and only job to support her and her little brother. She has a chance to boost her blog by interviewing realty tv star Daniel Stark. Add in Daniel's crazy ex lover, another blogger trying to sabotage her reputation and a hot rocker who is interested in Jemma. Daniel is stuck in the middle of all this chaos. What will happen to Jemma? This series was hot, steamy to listen to. I enjoyed all 5 books. Hannah Carmona narration was very good. She is a new narrator for me. She is a pleasure to listen to. She does an amazing job portraying the characters, giving each their own voice and personality. I was gifted the audio and offered my honest review
Jemma is struggling to provide for herself and her little brother bit she is managing to get by with her blog. Lately, however, she’s noticed a decline in followers and begins to look for ways to grow. This means moving into the video-blog arena and for that she needs a huge attraction! Enter reality TV star Daniel Starke...who needs a reputation makeover. Daniel agrees to an interview with Jemma hoping that this will help. Things go sideways when an up-and-coming vlogger starts a smear campaign against Jemma. This may jeopardize Jemma’s custody of her brother! What will happen next? Yes, this is a cliffhanger. I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I got this book free on Amazon and after I liked other books of this author before I gave it a try. Jemma is a 23 year old girl who blogs to earn the money she needs to provide her 7 year old brother a life with her. She takes care of him since her parents died and when she finds out that only writing blogs doesn't attract as many people as before and she needs to start interviews and videos, she picks Daniel as a celebrity to start with. Clearly not knowing what she puts herself into.. but be prepared, this book ends with a cliffhanger.
I love how Jemma is dedicated to taking care of her little brother and doing everything she can for him. I really enjoyed that Daniel isn't the jerk that he has been portrayed to the public. The sparks between Jemma and Daniel are intense and make the story even better. I really hate the vlogger so much and can't stand people like her. I've even blocked her name from my memory and can't remember it for anything. Also hate the manager because of his slimeyness. The narrator did an amazing job and gave the story this hopeful feel to it.
I enjoyed where the story is going but this is not a standalone. You have to read all of the books to get the full story, which I'm not too happy about. Jemma has a blog that earns her money so she can take care if her little brother but she needs more hits. In order to achieve this she scores an interview with reality star, Daniel Stark. After their first meeting, things get...interesting. And steamy.
Any "book" that quickly escalates to worse before it's conclusion automatically gets one star from me, and I'd give it zero if I could. There is a way to get people interested in the stories you have to tell without leaving such obvious cliffhangers in the hopes that people will go buy part 2. Free or not, don't waste your efforts with this one.
I liked Jemma Book 1 as a start to a series. The characters seemed interesting and I'd like to know what happens next. With only two hours, there wasn't time to get much beyond the set up described in the description of the audiobook. It's also not clear at this point how many books will be in the final series. It does end with a cliffhanger.
I listened to the Audible version. This is the first audiobook I've listened to by Hannah Carmona and her performance was good.
Reality show star and a blogger.... not a bad story but then CLIFFHANGER. Jemma is raising her little brother and needing a boost to her blog so she promotes an upcoming unapproved interview with Daniel. Daniel needs to clean up his image so he agrees to do the interview exclusively with Jemma. All does not go according to plan.
Thanks for the free audio chapters. JP

Jemma is struggling financially taking care of her little brother and thinks things will now change because she is interviewing Daniel. But things goes sideways when another blogger wants all the attention. Now Jemma is on a ride to crazy town.
Doesn't have a resolution (or really a plot), just a cliffhanger after some scenes thrown together. Enjoyed where it was going, but not going to waste my time if the author won't actually write complete stories.
This is a very short, good read with an entertaining storyline and likable characters. I liked it. I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Definitely not my type of "entertainment". I typically like sweet romances. Not sure how I happened upon this but it is not a clean romance or really a romance at all.
Jemma Larson has been the custodian of her young brother since her parents died. She has a blog that pays the bills. Jemma needs more money to keep afloat and decides she needs to something more to help her blog.
Daniel Starke is now a famous reality star bad boy heartthrob and knows that he is having trouble moving forward in the business because of the way they portrayed him. His manager has decided that Daniel needs to do more to bring him back into the spotlight and tell him to do an interview with a blogger.
Will Daniel do the interview or will he walk away? Can Jemma do what she needs and step out of her comfort zone?
