Ireland, 1764. Young stable lad Alex Williamson and his Lordships daughter, Elizabeth, fall in love and elope to the new world together. At sea, a Royal Navy Warship apprehends their immigrant ship and Alex is press ganged into its crew. Arriving penniless in New York without her husband, Elizabeth-now Pregnant- is sold into slavery. Meanwhile desperate to be reunited with his wife, Alex absconds from the Navy but is recaptured and sentenced to life in the penal colony of Virginia. After a few years as an indentured slave, The American War of Independence breaks out and Alex chooses to fight on the side of the Patriots. For the loss of an arm, and numerous acts of bravery he is given his freedom. Now Alex turns his attention into finding his wife, after many adventures he locates her in Charlottesville Carolina where she had taken up residence after gaining her freedom.
