Perfect Series #2

Perfect Addiction

Rate this book
Eighteen-year-old Sienna Lane has finally got her life the way she wants it to be.

A steady job at the local gym? Check.

An awesome sister as a roommate? Check.

A perfect boyfriend who adores and loves her? Check.

Sienna thinks she has everything figured out. That is until she discovers that her boyfriend has been screwing around with her very own sister.

Talk about humiliating.

To make things worse, God has decided to bestow upon Sienna the presence of Kayden Williams. He's moody, resentful, and has a lot of issues, but he is indeed a great fighter — perhaps one of the best if it weren't for the fact that he has been defeated in the ring by none other than Sienna's ex.

Both of them need each other more than they think they do. Kayden wants glory and Sienna needs him to fuel her revenge as well as a place to stay. She makes a deal with him to train him for the biggest fight of his life against her own ex-boyfriend in exchange for living in his apartment.

Boundaries have been set. Both Kayden and Sienna have to stick to the rules and play nice. But that is proven difficult considering the fact that maybe... they don't dislike each other as much as they think they do.

In fact, they may just be addicted to each other.

edit: i just realized the published version of this book was released soooo i will be reading it 😌

3 stars 🥊

This book was recommended to me by my girl Anna. I got into this mood where I needed to read something that had fighting of some kind in it, so this is what was suggested. I actually realized a few pages in that I had read at least SOME of this book years ago, but completely forgot about it oops

This wasn't the worst thing ever, it's honestly a pretty decent Wattpad book. My biggest issue with a lot of books on Wattpad is the cringeyness of the dialogue and the writing style being pretty bad, but this wasn't all that cringey and the writing was okay, but not horrible. Like the author didn't spend half the chapter describing the heroine's outfit for the day and that she's "not like other girls" because she doesn't wear makeup.

I mean mind you, this was suggested many times, but it wasn't flat-out said or described in great detail.

I'm not going to go into great detail about what was good and bad about this because I'm planning on reading this published book when it comes out next summer. Also, it's interesting to note this is becoming a movie.

small spoiler below

Pros

»The MCs, Sierra (h) and Kayden (H), were pretty good. I didn't really hate anything about them although Sierra pissed me off a couple times with her choices, mostly at the end of the book.

»Sierra and Kayden's romance was nice, I feel like it could be expanded on a bit more in the published novel

»I liked the side characters Evans and Brent a lot. Their romance was super cute. Honestly, Evans might be the best character in this and he's only a side character sooo

»This was probably the best line of the book

"I don't ever want to forget this. I want to remember you, everything about you. I want to remember what it's like to be with you. It doesn't matter if in five- ten years from now we're just a memory to each other. When I look at your name on my heart, I'll remember that you once had it. And I once had yours."

Cons

»The writing obviously could have been better. It just needed to be more descriptive and less...Wattpad-y???

»I don't understand reuniting Sierra and Kayden in the epilogue. I personally feel like the epilogue is reserved for showing how the MCs are fairing in the future, like are they married, do they have kids. That type of thing

»Okay, this isn't really a 'con' per say, but I want to mention it because I like to be picky. Sierra is in college yet I didn't see her study on page even once, the girl didn't even bring it up as if she had already done it. Just...nothing. I thought that was kinda funny

P.S.
I want to mention that I started nursing school last week so I probably won't be reading and reviewing a whole lot. I still will be, but yanno school is more important than getting my weekly fill of enemies to lovers 😢

Intense and hot but lots of angst and anger . Wish they were older.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a story that has a lot of different levels. Many areas are ripe for the roller coaster of emotion as we deal with infidelity, family issues, anger, angst, and love.
The author did not hold back as she crafted her characters with a broad brush, dealing with many of life‘s hard knocks in between snippets of love and light.
One thing that did bother me was the age of the main character. At 18 or 19 years old, she seemingly is an expert in martial arts but yet has minimal life experience and is able to train MMA fighters…
Holding grudges and bringing others into her plot for revenge eventually catches up. Personally, I can’t fault her for being angry, however, throughout the story she was slow to forgive and open herself up for what truly was the blessing of forgiveness and love.
I really liked that the dynamics between the two. Kayden was right to hold to his beliefs, forcing the issue of togetherness. They both had a lot of pain to deal with. But she carried a lot of immaturities that made me a little crazy.
I’m not a huge fan of angst in my stories, and typical for the YA theme, this is loaded with it. But we also have growth, understanding, tolerance, and love. The fear gets in the way quite a lot but in the end, we do get a happy happily ever after, or so it seems.
Overall, super-steamy and intense in many aspects, but also loaded with bits of anger the reader slushes through.
Sienna is an MMA trainer, and a good one at that. When she walks in on her boyfriend Jax cheating on her with her sister Beth, she doesn't know what to do. But a plan starts to form when fate throws her in the direction of one Kayden Williams, who happens to be Jax's rival in the cage.
The two of them decide to work together to take Jax down, and may end up falling in love in the process.
Okay, I am SO HAPPY that this book worked for me in ways that Perfect Illusion didn't. I couldn't get through that one, but this one was so fun to read.
Not only is Claudia Tan skilled in writing MMA fighters (because our girl Sienna is one too), but the chemistry between the characters was off the charts too.
From their very first meeting, Sienna and Kayden had sparks and those sparks only got bigger and bigger as the book went on. The only thing I mind is that they were ready to permanently tattoo each other's names on their skin after a very short time together.
In general the romance happened pretty fast, but it felt like it didn't because of the training sessions in between. I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't for the previously mentioned tattoos and other stuff I won't spoil. Too fast!!! But they're cute.
Kayden is like a rock on the outside and a marshmallow on the inside. I like that he wasn't embarrassed around Sienna and could speak his mind and that he even blushed.
Sienna is great too, she's one of those characters that actually stays committed to what they say and I love her for that. I wish her revenge plan worked out a little differently though.
Jax...nothing could redeem him, I'm sorry. Beth too, I don't like her.
Brent and Evans were adorable, and good supportive characters.
One thing that happened here that I really didn't like is near the end, I wouldn't call it miscommunication, but one of the characters didn't trust the other enough which results in...something and that something was so annoying, I wanted to smack that character for doing it. But it's something that happens in a lot of romance books so it's not that surprising, I just get annoyed whenever it does.
So overall I really enjoyed this. It's somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars so I'll round it up to 4.
This book was 'Killer'.
I started reading this book before Perfect Illusion and when Cara was talking to Alex on the phone I decided to switch over to PI. But during the half hour that I was reading I got into it but was still wanting more. After I was done with PI and I came back to Perfect Addiction I was more excited to continue on with his story. I was really pissed off at Kayden when he told her to leave but I was also happy to see this arrogant jerk because I knew that she was going to change him and I was just so excited to be able to read about that transformation. In the end I really enjoyed reading Sienna and Kayden's story. It was well developed and i had a blast just trying to figure out what was next for there relationship. #Kayna
💌reread! but this time the published version
💌 thank you so much claudia for sending me a copy!
it was so fun coming back into this world & reading kaden & sienna’s story again 🥹 i read this book a couple years back on wattpad & loved it, & i love it even more now!
off the bat, the plot is so entertaining as you have sienna training her ex boyfriend’s rival as revenge! the banter between these two is EVERYTHING. i do think that sometimes the characters behaved out of character? but overall their journeys & development was great:)
while i do think i enjoyed the writing a bit more a few years ago, i still really liked it now. it’s fun, fast paced & hilarious! i can’t wait to read jax’s story soon 🫣 thank you again claudia tan!
Recensione sulla mia pagina Bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CqVUy-ZIV...
Quando una donna viene tradita, e nel peggiore dei modi, può diventare pericolosa e, soprattutto, vendicativa.
Ed è esattamente quello che decide di fare Sienna, coach di arti marziali miste, dopo aver ricevuto una pesante delusione da parte del suo fidanzato.
Trovare un modo per vendicarsi le risulta facile perché Kayden, avversario sconfitto e nemico del suo ex, decide di essere suo alleato, e accettare la sfida.
Stabilisce con lui un buon legame. Hanno interessi in comune e un passato che li fa soffrire. Ben presto la sintonia si trasforma in potente alchimia, tanto da coinvolgerli in una relazione passionale alla quale non possono resistere.
Ma il risentimento che Sienna nutre verso il suo ex rischia di mandare tutto all’aria. Si lascerà accecare dall’odio oppure darà una possibilità a questo nuovo legame che sta crescendo prepotente nel suo cuore?
🖋️Questo romanzo mi è piaciuto moltissimo, soprattutto l’ambientazione sul ring degli MMA, con gli allenamenti, l’adrenalina che scaturisce durante l’incontro e lo spirito competitivo che aleggia sui lottatori intenzionati a portare a casa il titolo o semplicemente vincere il match.
L’autrice poi è stata bravissima nel farmi percepire l’esatto momento in cui i protagonisti si sono innamorati e l’istante magico in cui hanno rivelato i propri sentimenti.
Infedeltà, legami familiari, amicizia, rabbia e vendetta, questi i temi affrontati in questo romanzo che su Wattpad ha avuto 85 milioni di visualizzazioni e che è diventato un film originale Prime Video che sta facendo impazzire le fan di tutto il mondo.
Updated Review of W by Wattpad Books version, 3 Stars
I read the version of that was available on Wattpad and even interviewed Claudia, a couple of months years ago. However, when Tan officially published Perfect Addictions, I was pretty excited to get my hands on the book. As you can see from my previous review of Perfect Addictions, I wasn't a huge fan of the Wattpad version. I wanted to read the W by Wattpad Books version of it to see what changes Tan would make as an adult, as she very famously wrote the book in her teenage years.
Needless, to say, there were parts of the new and improved parts of Perfect Addictions that I enjoyed. Tan's writing is surprisingly easy to get into. Another thing that I enjoyed about the published edition of Perfect Addictions, was that a lot of my issues with the original Wattpad version seemed to be addressed. The ableist and misogynistic language were removed. The weird way in which the LGBTQ+ relationship was depicted was changed for the better. Lastly, Sienna was so much more of a bearable character to read about than in the original text. Her motivations and decisions made so much more sense to me. I love female characters who want revenge, and Sienna is certainly that. Since Sienna felt like a more well-rounded character, Kayden's choice to train with her felt so much more believable. Kayden also felt like less of an asshole, and it was fun to see so much of his soft side.
While I did enjoy many aspects of the published version of Perfect Addictions, many parts just didn't vibe with me.
From a writing and technical aspect of the novel, there were a few things that seemed off. The e-book version that I had, had many places where the formatting was all over the place and inconsistent. Additionally, there were a few grammatical mistakes and run-on sentences here and there. There also seemed to have an identity crisis on whether it was a British book or an American one. The book is set in the US, specifically in Boston, yet the book is littered with very British sentences and words. This makes sense when you consider that Claudia studied in the UK, however it was very discombobulating to read everything and imagine everything being set in Boston, only to have characters say very proper/English things and refer to the school year as terms.
My last issue from a more technical perspective is that it felt like I constantly was being forced to suspend my belief, due to a lack of understanding of the various process. For example, the fact that Kayden was given access to his inheritance before he was eighteen, or the way that Sienna went about acquiring a motel room. However, the main thing that I couldn't seem to stop thinking about was the crux of the entire novel, the apartment that Kayden and Sienna shared. I couldn't figure out if Kayden owned the apartment or if they were renting it. If he did own it, I couldn't understand how someone so young managed to nab an apartment. If they were renting, I couldn't understand how they were allowed to paint their apartment without informing their landlord first. But this may just be me nitpicking, I am inclined to do that after all.
In terms of the characters, there were a few things that I really loved about Sienna. I adored that she was a fighter, literally seeing she was involved in the world of MMA. She was also a smart character, even if she never went to classes. The thing that I loved the most about Sienna was her drive to get shit done and her desire for revenge. However, a major issue I had with the book was that there was so much internal dialogue from Sienna, that it seemed to overwhelm any plot or description that needed to happen to carry the book.
Kayden seemed to be like a jumble of every bad boy trope. He was an MMA fighter who was mysterious and guarded but also secretly had a traumatic back story and was obviously secretly a huge softie. While Kayden's overall motivation made more sense to me in his edition of the book, I still found myself unable to connect to Kayden’s specific flavour of flirtation and banter. The minor characters were fun, but overall I found that the majority of characters were hard to connect with. This may be because not enough time was spent fleshing out characters.
The romance was a thing that I had heaps of mixed feelings about. Someone on Goodreads described the book as a perfectly adequate romance. It was no way out of the way amazing, but it wasn't complete trash. The book seemed to be advertised as an enemies-to-lovers romance, yet when I read it, it felt more like insta-love romance. I spent so much of my time reading wondering why Sienna and Kayden liked each other, or how they fell in love. Many of the decisions and descriptions were super cringey, making it hard to get into, especially the spicy scenes.
Review of Wattpad version, 2.5 "Confused, Bored, & Tired" Stars
I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon Claudia Tan’s Perfect Addiction and realised that there was a film adaption in the works. This was largely due to the fact that Claudia and I come from the same country. The other reason that I was intrigued was the concept seemed interesting and college-aged cast of characters (instead of the usual high school-aged nonsense).
I love the emergence of the New Adult genre and more college-aged romances. The promise of a hate-to-love relationship called to me, and the fact that the narrative was set in the context of a consulted revenge plot and the “and they were roommates” trope seemed to make this book the perfect read.
However, just like every other book I read from Wattpad, I found that the act of actually reading the book was difficult. As previously stated, this is probably my issue, in regards to my age, education and preferences. The book had potential to be something that I really loved. Yet, as I read it, it became abundantly that much like all of the other books I read on Wattpad, it didn’t particularly stick out to me  and also that it was written by a teenager.
One of the reasons that I say this is that some of the dialogue, though I know it's supposed to be very cute, flirty, angsty, whatever emotion lacked the punch to invoke the feelings it was supposed to in me. An example could be the scene where Sienna assumes that Kayden is sexist for not wanting to rent the room to her when it could have been a plethora of other reasons. For example, he doesn’t want roommates, he doesn’t a woman in his space (unrelated to sexism and more about his preferences and comfort), he’s a light sleeper etc.
This book was written by someone who might have wanted to talk about important issues but not truly understand or be able to nuances of the issues. For example, when Sienna and Kayden talk to each other, there is a lot of mention of Alzheimer’s, bipolar, and the term “pussy” all being used as an insult, which I found troubling.
Another thing that made it hard for me to enjoy the book was the fact that I couldn’t connect to the characters. I personally did not enjoy Kayden’s specific flavour of flirtation, which made their banter hard for me to accept. I also was not completely able to understand the backstory of why Kayden decided that he was going to start fighting. I know that it has to do with his dead sister, but I’m not sure I understand why his sister dying made him want to risk his life in an illegal fight club.
As for Sienna, I would have loved to read a book (or watch a movie) about a badass female fighter. However, I personally found it really hard to believe that Sienna was as badass as the narrative wanted me to believe. This unlike many other reviewers complain about was not completely because of Sienna’s complaining. Instead, I would have enjoyed a scene where we see Sienna against someone to show to the audience and Kayden that he is a badass. In regards to their relationship, the book did offer some very cute scenes between Sienna and Kayden, my lack of understanding made it really difficult for me to completely get behind it. I also felt like I was missing something, due to the fact that when Sienna and Kayden first start practising he addresses their practice as abuse. Which left me, very confused, because they were both fighters. A lot of my confusion can be attributed to the fact that the book is so long. Like the rest of the Wattpad books I read, the book is filled with filler chapters and serial plots. The length of the book made it hard for me to keep up with what was happening and had me feeling lost and the writing style just wasn't for me
I believe this is the only Wattpad novel that I was bothered to get my hands on and read. I was never and I still am not a big fan of reading work on Wattpad even if I write on their myself. I prefer books that are actually published by authors and ones that I can get my hands on.
First of all I'd like to put it out there and just say that this book kept me on my seat for 2 days non stop and that was how good it was. I love the writing style, the essence of the characters and the whole concept of changing and forgiving and moving on in life. The novel portrays so many great themes and that is something I vitally am on the look out when reading. Good job to Claudia, for writing such a fantastic novel!
This book was amazing! The background story of Sienna and Kayden really sets up an awfully beautiful love story. I love that this book has a central message about forgiveness and isn't just a sappy love story. The love story is also realistic.
"You know what makes a person a fighter? It's not the number of punches he can throw or how long he can last in the cage. It's when he shows real courage and strength to overcome his battle wounds. You have scars, Killer. Own up to them."
"Kayden has a tender heart and a kind spirit - if not a little tainted from the darkness that he seems to carry around with him. And despite him being hot and cold with me, it's getting much harder for me to stay away."
"He's going to kill me, isn't he? With his beautiful words, kind stares and big, gentle heart. He's truly going to be the death of me."
"Don't quit, don't split and don't bitch."
"It's hard to be with someone with the hopes of fighting their demons for them. They've got to do it on their own."
"He's asking way too much from me. How can I let all that anger go, just like that?"
First of all, I am so so happy to be able to read a book on my kindle that I had first read on Wattpad years ago. I am so proud of Claudia.
This book was filled with angst and anger and the need for revenge to the brim. Sienna was a contradiction. A beautiful one at that. She knew (most of) the things she was doing, yet she was so compelled by her need for revenge that she handicapped herself, including her relationship with Kayden.
Kayden was the yin to Sienna's yang. He was everything that she was missing. Maybe it was the way the character was written or the language, but I couldn't get a read on the kind of personality he had. He was desirable sure, but many aspects of his personality just..... clashed. Their relationship felt toxic a lot of times, which is another thing that didn't work out for me. At one point, the push and pull between the characters became too much for me.
The plot makes this book truly what it is. The underdog thing it has going shone with the book, along with the language. And I absolutely loved it. The amateur feel to it is what makes wattpad books hold a special place in my heart, this book being one of them.
Overall, it was a good book, if I put aside some plot holes and language issues, it would have been even better.
Thank you Netgalley and Wattpad Books for an ARC in exchange of an honest review
Sienna walked on on her boyfriend having sex with her sister. She wants revenge and this drives her from that point forward. She happens to be a MMA trainer and is good at what she does. She's also in college (with very little page time devoted to said college education).
An opportunity comes up to train Kayden, a fighter too, just like her ex Jax. A complication is Jax beat Kayden in a previous fight. Sienna stikes a deal; she will train Kayden in exchange for his spare bedroom. It's a win-win; she needs a place to stay & he needs a trainer.
I thought Sienna held on to her need for revenge for way too long. While I liked that she was kick-ass in her job, she was a bit too perfectly accomplished for being so young (she couldn't legally drink).
Schon der Film hat mich damals mitgerissen und ich habe mich sehr auf das Buch gefreut, um noch einmal in die Geschichte von Kayden & Sienna zu erleben. Sie ist mit Jax zusammen und hat ihn zu dem gefürchteten Kämpfer von heute gemacht.
Doch als er sie mit ihrer Schwester betrügt, sieht sie rot und will Rache an ihm nehmen. So trifft sie auf Kayden und er ist schon lange ein Gegner von ihrem Ex und sie kann ihm helfen, endlich zu gewinnen.
Ist Rache alles?
Sienna ist eine junge Frau, die für sich und ihre Schwester sorgt und eigentlich glücklich mit ihrem Freund war. Doch als sie ihn erwischt, genau mit ihr, verändert sich etwas. Welche Zukunft steht ihr noch bevor?
Der Schreibstil ist angenehm flüssig und man kann so in die Gefühle und Gedanken der Charaktere eintauchen. Die Nebenfiguren sind ebenso authentisch und gestalten die Geschichte mit. Ich liebe das Setting und man kann durch die Protagonisten einiges entdecken.
Für mich war das Buch noch einmal eine Reise in diese Geschichte, die so viele Emotionen bereithält. Drama, Spannung, Rache und noch so vieles mehr.
In der Handlung erlebt man noch einmal von Anfang bis Ende, wie Sienna nur ein Gefühl kennt, aber Kayden zeigt ihr auch etwas ganz anderes.
Meine Neugier ist nun geweckt und ich freue mich schon, weitere Bücher der Autorin lesen zu können.
Das Cover sieht wunderschön aus und ich finde, es weckt durch den Schriftzug direkt Neugier.
read as an arc for netgalley-
i really liked the premise of this book, and was super excited to read it but the whole book felt like a first draft. the characters and conflicts were underdeveloped and every once in a while it felt like there where whole paragraphs missing because inner dialogue would just skip ahead. overall the plot was good i just felt like it needed to go through like 2-3 really good edits and it could be so much stronger
2.5. I was so excited for this book. I mean, two MMA fighters teaming up? Sounds amazing to me, but I have to say I was disappointed. The first thing that turned me off was that everything happens WAY too fast. Like, Sienna finds her sister and her boyfriend (of three years) sleeping together, meets Kayden and asks to team up, and within TWO WEEKS her and Kayden get together. Now that obviously wouldn't be a problem in most other scenarios, but she literally JUST broke up with her cheating boyfriend, like wouldn't you be literally traumatized after that??? How can you just get with a new man after two weeks?? Anyway, after they get together, they are both just disgustingly in love with each other, which once again, they literally met two weeks ago. Then, after dating for two more weeks, they break up for a completely senseless reason, and Kayden just leaves with literally no explanation. After that, Sienna talks about the relationship like it was completely life altering and the best god damn thing that ever happened to her. She even got a TATTOO of his INITIALS. Like, Ma'am, you've only known him a month, and were with him for TWO WEEKS. It's really just not that serious. Then, Kayden comes back out of no where and after a 30 damn minute conversation, they are back together!!! Like nothing stupid and senseless every happened!!! Oh yeah, and after trying to get back at her sister and ex boyfriend the whole book, Sienna and her sister MAKE. UP. And Sienna claims that she was the one being a bitch, NOT her sister who slept with HER boyfriend. I literally had to skip that part, I just couldn't submit myself to that kind of torture. Anyway, I was able to finish it, but it was a little difficult. The best part of this book was Brent and Evans.
Thank you NetGalley, Wattpad Books, and Claudia Tan for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sienna Lane, an MMA trainer, catches her boyfriend (MMA / underground fighter) and younger sister in bed together. Sienna who wants to get back at her cheater ex, hatches a plan when she meets Kayden Williams (also an underground fighter who fought with her ex last season but lost). She knows that Jax (her ex) treasures one thing the most, continuing his reigning underground championship. So, in exchange of training Kayden to beat her ex and become the new underground champion, he lets her stay in his apartment since she left the apartment she shared with her sister (for obvious reasons).
Before I say anything else, I want to say that this is technically a re-read since I read this in years ago when it was first published in Wattpad. I've been a fan of the Perfect series by Claudia Tan ever since I read it in Wattpad, and I was thrilled when I heard that not only were two of the books getting published (Perfect Illusion [Book #1] and Perfect Addiction [Book #2]), but my favourite out of the series was also getting a movie! Anyway, moving on.
Okay, first of all, I remember being so in love with this book when I first read it and while reading this book, I got immersed in those feelings again. The only difference I can say from then and now is that the published version is so much better. I don't know how a book that was already so good (from what I remember) could even get better, but Claudia and her team managed to do it.
I love the characters so much. Sienna, Kayden, Brent, Evans, etc. I also love how the Perfect Illusion characters have cameos here <3
Sienna Lane is just a badass queen, period. That basically sums her up. Her boyfriend and sister were cheating on her behind her back and her friends knew about it, so she cuts them off. I just love how she did that, maybe a bare minimum, but we don't see much of that happening in books (or at least I don't). It was just a little detail that I really liked, and we pretty much don't see or hear from them afterwards. The whole getting revenge on Jax because he cheated basically consumed Sienna and was her prime focus for a while, which is understandable because she gave him three years just for him to throw it all away. But because it basically consumed her, it also affected her other relationships especially with Kayden. Without giving too much away, this whole journey of Sienna's self-healing from a breakup (because of cheating from the other party) was honestly so real and just amazing.
On to Kayden "Killer" Williams. He's an absolute gem. He's rough around the edges because of some shit that he has gone through, but our girl Sienna is quick to call him out on his behaviour. They're honestly an amazing pair and they complement each other so much. Kayden was harsh with Sienna when they first (officially) met because he recognized her as Jax's girlfriend, but she didn't remember him (it only clicked after her chat with Julian). Anyway, he's got the whole "he hates everyone but her" trope down, so there's that and I absolutely love it.
Overall, the structure, the characters, and everything else was amazing. I loved it. The book is an addiction.
When I tell you this book was so nostalgic for me since I first read it back when it was just on Wattpad, I was so excited to read the physical copy, especially with it now being made into a movie!!!! OMG! I was ready to read this book! Although I had read this story a while back on Wattpad, it was a good refresher to be back in the world of the book, and reacquaint myself with the characters I fell in love with originally.
Sienna Lane was a strong character with all the intensive knowledge and skill with MMA, and an all around amazing character. The beginning started off with quite the scandal that involved Sienna walking in on her sister, Beth and Sienna’s boyfriend, Jax having sex in their apartment! Turned out that Jax and Beth had been hooking up behind Sienna’s back for months, ouch. With that betrayal on constant repeat in Sienna’s mind, she found herself looking for a new place to live, and blocking out Beth and Jax. For Sienna to have walked in on that was the ultimate betrayal especially since Beth and Jax were the people closest to her in life! Sienna had all this pent up anger, and wanted revenge for what Jax did to her so, what better way to get back at him then to train his rival, Kayden, and beat him in the championship fight.
Just from the first few chapters, I was immediately immersed into Sienna and Kayden’s story, and LOVING IT! Kayden was all grumpy, serious, and laser focused on winning, and with Sienna’s help, he became a better fighter for it. Plus Sienna was just so cool! Gosh I loved her! Seeing Sienna whip Kayden into prime time fighting shape enabled him to learn better ways to implement into his training routine, and see sometimes getting a different perspective helps a.k.a. Sienna the absolute genius. Sienna was determined to get her revenge against Jax, and teaming up with Kayden, it seemed like they were on the same page. While Kayden and Sienna started off unsure of whether or not to trust each other, there was still some moments early on that showed Kayden wasn’t all tough and stoic as he seemed. I loved the back and forth banter between Sienna and Kayden from Sienna being sarcastic and sassy to Kayden being blunt yet also having his moments of genuine laughter with Sienna.
(Sigh) my love and admiration for Kayden grew more and more as I read. I forgot how much I loved Kayden from when I first read this, and the way he went from grumpy, but also a complete softie for Sienna was everything! I also loved seeing how Kayden was with Sienna such as, “…during those few rare moments when he lets his guard down, theres a kind of genuineness there that softens me and makes me feel all gooey inside.” Honestly same because even I was feeling gooey inside with the moments of sweetness and protectiveness that came off Kayden (sigh) yeah I hope you can tell just how much my love for this tough MMA fighter was STRONG AND IN FULL FORCE! GIMMIE!
The other great part of this story was getting to see some familiar faces a.k.a. Alex, Daniel, Cara, and Simon from the first book! I haven’t read the first book in a long time (not since it was on Wattpad), but I had remembered some parts of Alex and Daniel’s story so it wasn’t hard to understand their dynamic in this book. I also loved seeing the close friendships formed between Alex, Cara, and Sienna! If you’ve read the books in the Perfect series, then you know that the friendships created become a central part of the found family dynamic between all the characters which I throughly love! The paintball scene was a great moment in seeing the girls and guys hang out together, and of course for Sienna and Kayden to share a moment together.
Now I love me some good tension filled moments, and OH BOY DID I GET TENSION BETWEEN SIENNA AND KAYDEN! The way that Kayden would be staring at Sienna and being close to her at certain moments throughout the story had me like, “KISS HER!” So close and yet they would pull back because, hello they were trying to maintain a somewhat professional relationship with each other, and also Kayden was being a gentleman realizing that Sienna wasn’t ready to jump into something new after getting out of a long relationship. Either way, Sienna and Kayden’s relationship grew more as the story continued and the scene when poured paint on each other had plenty of tension that was equally apparent, and even Brent and Evan’s could see that there was definitely something going on between Kayden and Sienna!
Throughout the story, there were some pretty amazing moments between Sienna and Kayden or even individually, but among those, I absolutely loved when Kayden got vulnerable and told Sienna how he felt about her! When Kayden said things like, “you’re my weakness”, or “I’m addicted to you”, OR “you’ve sewn yourself into my brain. Embedded yourself in my heart. I’m a goner…” (sigh) Claudia, I’m going to need you to rush order me Kayden Williams A.S.A.P! Because that man had me swooning, looking into the distant with a dreamy eyed look, and imagining Kayden all day everyday! I’m telling you when you read the way Kayden was and the things he said! You’ll understand my obsession and love for him!
The emotional pull this story had was a reminder of the heartbreak and sadness that lingered in Sienna and Kayden’s story. I truly forgot some of the emotional parts of this story especially with Kayden’s past which by the way was tragic. With so much that happened throughout the story, even towards the end, emotions were at an all time high when it came down to the final fight, but also the fight for Sienna and Kayden’s relationship. Dang, I was really out pumped up by all the training sessions, romance, spice, good humor, and then I remembered all the tragic stuff and sad parts and I was immediately feeling sad. In a way, it was a rollercoaster of highs and lows, but in the best way possible. Claudia really wrote this story in a way that had many layers to Sienna and Kayden’s story as well as adding a bit of drama, danger, sadness, and heartache. A story that checked off all the boxes to hit you in all the feels.
WOW! When I first read this story on Wattpad, I throughly remember loving it, and now few years later reading it again, I rediscovered my love for the characters. Claudia did such a fantastic job of weaving together Sienna and Kayden’s story from their emotional connection to the love they found with each other. The character growth was really amazing especially for Sienna to realize that not only was revenge the wrong path for her, but she ended up going to therapy to work through long held issues that she kept buried for so long. Kayden also had his time to heal himself and see that what he wanted to do in life, better himself before fully being with Sienna. The romance was freaking fantastic, with Kayden saying the most romantic, genuine, and sweetest things to Sienna, (sigh) I wanted that man for myself! The spice was also a great time! IYKYK! I loved the other characters as well from Alex, Daniel, Cara, Brent, Evans, those people were loving and hilarious. I had so much fun reading this book, but also equally felt like I got to better understanding Sienna and Kayden’s struggles. By the end, I was feeling a bit emotional, but hopefully especially with the way the story ended. This had a little bit of everything from an MMA trainer/ underground fighter dynamic, action, grumpy male lead but he’s a softie for her, forced proximity/ roommates, spice, heartfelt connection, and lovable characters, you’ll love this story because I sure did!
I love this book. Usually I dont have favorite books and so far I have 2 and I cant chose if this one or the other is better. So the both hold first in my heart. This book hold so much emotion and every word felt as if I was the person in the book. At the last chapters of the book I was literally crying in my living room at 3am. I lost it when Kayden taps the ground and when he was saying he's chosing to lose that battle. That's when I broke and had to take a break from this book for 3 days before i felt emotionally ready to continue. I know it sounds like I'm Exaggerating I'm really not because this book so much power in its words. But i do suggest you read this book, it awsome and I really do hope you like it as much as i do. I do warn you though this book will get you frustrated so be prepared.
her sister slept with her boyfriend and continued to date him afterwards… yeah, this book got a one star simply because how the cheating trope was written. the sister doesn’t deserve forgiveness simply because she’s family 😭 the plot was somewhat boring and kinda predictable. kayden is boring too and so is sienna, it didn’t feel like enough ‘love’ was between them.
A big thank you to Claudia Tan for providing me with the ARC of this book.
Before I get into the review, you should pick this book up if:
+ you enjoy sports romances (MMA in particular for this one)
+ strong female characters
+ heavier topics discussed such as grief, manipulative/emotionally abusive exes, dysfunctional families
+ prefer fast paced books
My thoughts on this book... okay overall rating is 3 stars.
I think the writing definitely improved from book 1 but for me, there's too much describing at times.
I really like the pace of the story, it makes you fly through it and something is always happening.
I feel like the cover doesn't fit the story. It doesn't represent what the story is or fits the mood.
I love how we were thrown right into the story with chapter 1. No waiting, just right in it. I really don't like it when books take too long to start. This one doesn't have that problem.
I can appreciate what some of the characters were battling with in this story and how their struggles affected the way they went on with their lives. Having a dysfunctional family isn't easy and having an emotionally abusive partner can definitely hinder your trusting abilities. But sometimes those problems arose in the middle of nowhere and went on too long when it just didn't benefit the story.
At first, I enjoyed Jax as a villain in this book, then I grew frustrated with him because I felt like he was too shallow and underdeveloped. While I still agree that we as readers could benefit from knowing what drives him other than wanting to have complete control over Sienna, I think his role in the second half of the book kind of changes. He's no longer just there to drive the plot but in the end, he's there to put thoughts in the head of our main characters - Sienna and Kayden.
And that's what makes him so efficient. Because he now has psychological impact on them and we get to see them fall apart and piece themselves together, stronger than ever. He was like their ultimate test. A test for both our characters to overcome their insecurities.
Moving on to Sienna. She fell a bit short for me at times. I loved her overall strength and the ability to hold her own but she needed to grow a backbone during arguments - in her internal dialogues in particular. She was so worried about hurting other people and feeling guilty when sometimes, she just needed to put herself first and stop feeling guilty for yelling at her sister for sleeping with her boyfriend. She's strong but she's also deeply insecure. She's selling herself short time and time again and doesn't see her worth. I understand being unable to trust people but even after telling someone they can trust her and that she trusts them, that's not really the case.
Some parts of this book do feel a bit cliche, like Brent and Evans. But I really thought they were cute together. I also appreciated Sienna having her own friends like Cara and Alex.
In the end, my thoughts are that Kayden needs to be protected at all costs. While his backstory felt cliche as well, I still loved his character and the execution of how he comes across on paper feels like a breath of fresh air. Despite going through these things, he's not a typical 'bad boy' or a messy character. He's still a softie at heart and balances out Sienna's hard exterior very well. I think that's why them two together just work well.
So yeah, not a bad book but I'm excited to see the movie because it's just going to bring this story to a whole new level.
My favourite quotes:
~ My weakness is you, Lucky
~Kayden is the only person who can make me feel like this.He makes me cry from laughter and soothes me afterward with gentle words of expression. He makes me want to get a tattoo of him and stay in bed with him all day, floating in his featherlight kisses. He makes me feel cared for and protected and leaves no room for doubt.
Arc provided by @netgallery and @wattpadbooks💗💗
Perfect Addiction by @claudiatan is a mma fighter romance following Sienna Lancaster who’s life seemed perfect with a perfect job, perfect boyfriend and a perfect apartment she bought with her sister until she catches her boyfriend and sister in bed together.
If you're looking for an angsty, new adult fighter romance, this is one to grab.
Sienna is a girl you don't want to cross. When she catches her boyfriend in bed with her sister….oh yes, I said sister….she's out for revenge. Sienna is a successful MMA trainer. When a chance encounter brings her face-to-face with Kayden, her ex's fighting rival, she finds the perfect plan for revenge. Living and training together, the two quickly find themselves fighting their attraction and their own personal demons.
- Sienna was a strong female lead with a sarcastic attitude that I loved.
- Kayden was a grump with a sweet side. He could be swoony and possessive at the same time and melted my heart.
- I fell in love with the supporting characters who brought a dose of banter and humor. I adored Evans. I'd want him as my own best friend.
This is a revenge story, one where I found myself rooting for the characters and other times frustrated. I was pulled into the story. I appreciated the way the characters had to overcome their own issues before getting their HFN.
For the length of the book, I felt that the conclusion happened quickly. I was so invested that I would have liked a bit more. I would love to have Kayden's perspective.
Perfect Addiction has family drama, spice, angst, forced proximity, and brings in the world of underground fighting. It would be enjoyed by anyone who loved Beautiful Disaster. It's the second book in the Perfect Series but can be read as a standalone.
Știind că nu mă împac bine cu poveștile scrise pe Wattpad și apoi publicate, n-am pornit cu mari așteptări când am ales să citesc “Viciul perfect” alături de Diana și Anto.
De când am citit descrierea, mi s-a aprins un beculeț, lupte de MMA, deci pumni împărțiți în stânga și dreapta, transpirație la greu, dar și mușchi de admirat, așa că ce să vreau mai mult?
Am primit și o protagonistă super smecheră, înfiptă, cum îmi place mie, iar Sienna a fost de admirat. N-am mai putut de dragul ei și mi-a plăcut teribil că nu se lăsa călcată în picioare după tot ce s-a întâmplat în viața ei, că nu a iertat ușor și că nici n-a închis ochii, din contră, a căutat răzbunarea. Nu pot spune că sunt răzbunătoare din fire, dar câteodată ar merita…
Și cine s-o ajute la răzbunare, dacă nu un alt luptător? Misteriosul Kayden…cât de intrigată am fost de personajul lui și cât m-au fiert interacțiunile dintre ei. Am savurat fiecare scena care-i surprindea, indiferent de ipostaze, iar dialogurile dintre ei, cireașa de pe tort 🥰.
M-au cucerit și Brett, dar și Evans, fratele vitreg, respectiv prietenul cel mai bun al lui Kayden, m-am distrat teribil când apăreau în cadru și râdeam din suflet, serveau amuzament pe pâine ☺️, iar când li se alătura și Sienna, nu aveai cum să te plictisești. Mi-au fost dragi și Cara și Alex, vecinele lui Kayden…știam că de ele o să-mi placă, nu mă îndoiam deloc! ❤️
Povestea mi-a plăcut super mult, deși aș fi vrut mai multă emoție să simt, nu am dus lipsă de scene tandre, dar nu m-au atins așa cum mi-am dorit, poate și din cauza durității personajelo, viețile lor n-au fost tocmai roz și zidurile ridicate în jurul lor erau bine clădite, dar și când s-au dărâmat, să te ții bine… Chiar dacă nu i-am acordat punctaj maxim, a fost o poveste de care m-am bucurat și pe care o voi păstra în suflet.
O poveste despre pierdere și suferință, relații toxice, vinovăție, dorință, dar și iubire sinceră! O poveste dinamică și vi-o recomand cu căldură! ❤️
